Ok, got a theory abt Skull.
I’ve just finished watching The Alienist on Netflix (highly recommend u go watch btw) and it got me thinking abt Dr Edmund Bickerstaff. Since he was supposed to be a ‘shrink’ (as Lucy stated) it’s clear he was a psychiatrist or at least worked with mentally ill patients.
This got me thinking abt how he met Skull. I don’t think anyone in the fandom of Lockwood & co actually knows how old Skull is (or at least how old he used to be) but I’d hazard a guess he was in his late teens to late 20s. But, how would someone as twisted as Bickerstaff recruit someone that young (compared to him of course) and trust him enough for him to be his loyal companion and servant. I doubt they were related in some way since the research into the Bone Glass showed that the Bickerstaff family was very well known, so if they were related there would have been a record.
This is where the part abt The Alienist comes in. Many children in the late 1800s that didn’t conform to what society deemed appropriate were thought to be hysterical or insane. So, their families would take them to see an ‘alienist’, which is essentially an outdated term for a psychiatrist, and leave them in their care. This is how I believe Skull met Bickerstaff and became infatuated with him and his rituals.
What if, Skull was an orphaned child that got into quite a bit of trouble (maybe stealing, arson, or maybe worse) and was eventually caught by the police. Given how he acts, I think they would have called in a very popular and respected alienist to give him a look over and see what they should do abt him.
Enter Dr Edmund Bickerstaff.
Without parents and nowhere to go, he would have been seen as a prime servant for the Dr to take advantage of. There was no one that would care enough that he was gone and to any authorities that might suspect him of foul behaviour, he was just another poor child in a big industrial city, who would care what happens to him? After he was taken in by Bickerstaff, Skull was now loyal to him. He gave him a roof over his head, since I’m assuming he stayed with the doctor, and gave him a purpose.
So, that’s my theory on how those two met but I haven’t finished reading the books yet so if I’ve got any details wrong then please call me out on it but please please PLEASE don’t spoil anything.
I beg 🥺🙏

BEST TV OF 2022 PART 3
I watched quite a few films on Netflix. My favourites were: The White Tiger, Do Revenge, Werewolves Within, Wendell + Wild, Glass Onion, The School for Good & Evil, The Curse of Bridge Hollow, The Bubble, Don’t Look Up, Metal Lords (altho’ Skullflower never fails to make me laugh), Manc, Enola Holmes 2 and The Trial of the Chicago Seven. I really didn’t like Blonde tho’ – I thought it did a huge disservice to Marilyn Monroe by only showing her victimhood.
I watch a lot of detective/crime dramas. 2022 saw the return of some of my favourites – McDonald & Dodds, Van Der Valk, Shetland, Death in Paradise, The Alienist, Vienna Blood, Traces, Grantchester, Top Boy, Bloodlands, The Capture (I thought the 2nd series was stronger than the 1st) Professor T., Gangs of London, and Strike. Also, We Hunt Together (which I think is incredibly under-rated and I can’t understand why the dark femininity crew aren’t all over it). Another couple of shows I think are really under-rated are Babylon Berlin + Snowfall – really don’t understand why they don’t get more love.
New crime dramas/thrillers included Inside Man (would love a spin-off series w/Stanley Tucci’s character), Nine Perfect Strangers, The House Across the Street, Tokyo Vice (personally, I thought it was over-rated), Wreck (pleased to see it’s already getting a second series), Sherwood, Rules of the Game and Four Lives (about the victims of the serial killer Stephen Port). A couple of BBC dramas I really liked were Red Rose, Chloe and The Responder and Channel 4 did a good prison drama, Screw which I hope gets recommissioned.
ITV also did a reasonably good adaptation of The Ipcress File as well as a drama about that man who faked his own death then turned up in South America as part of an insurance fraud – The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe – and The Walk-In w/Stephen Graham, based on the true life case of someone giving evidence against a fascist group. Channel 4 did a quick turnaround to do a show based on the Vardy vs. Rooney court case. BBC also did one called Floodlights which was the true story of child abuse in football.
I did watch Dahmer + thought it was excellent but really hard to watch. Plus, I actually loved The Watcher (despite it getting slated by the critics).
I was glad to see the return of Chucky which was as mad as ever plus The Terror (which this time was set in World War 2 in a Japanese internment camp), Inside No. 9, the final series of Noughts & Crosses and Dr Who (seeing the end of Jodie Whittaker’s turn as the Doctor). Also returning for second series on Netflix were two favourites of my mine, Russian Doll and Umbrella Academy and I finally watched S1 of Squid Game (which I loved). There were also new shows such as Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, The Sandman and Wednesday (which was one of my favourites of the year) plus I finally got round to watching The Irregulars (sad to see it got cancelled after only one series). Sky did an adaptation of The Midwich Cuckoos (which I quite liked) plus a great time travel show called The Lazarus Project (which I really hope gets another season). Harley Quinn returned + I love the relationship between Harley & Ivy.

My Top Posts in 2022:
#2
I saw your last post and it made me sad, so here's a bit of a random ask for you :))
What's your favourite of each media type so like favourite tv show, book(s) (i can't just pick one), podcast, etc.
This was so nice 😢💕 thank-you for sending in an ask :))
and as for my favourite show it tends to change quiet often but im always a sucker for my old favourites like teen wolf or 9-11 or the alienist. but right now id say cobra kai- the found family and martial arts aspect along with the comedy has felt nice to watch as of recent- its just light hearted.
as for books the “All For The Game Trilogy” is definitely my current favourite. Im also reading the graphic novels “fence” as well and they are very funny as well. Oh and heartstopper because It is such a comforting series. (Although I read a-lot, so theres definitely more I love haha)
*(Im also reading six of crows)*
For Podcasts Ive been binging : KingFalls, Camp Here and There, along with The Magnus Archives, and Brooke and connor make a podcast.
and for youtube I don’t watch it much but if im in the mood its usually commentary youtubers so like kurtis connor, codyKo, NickIsNotGreen, anthony padilla, etc etc :)

People of tumblr I need help!
What Daniel Brühl movie do I watch next? I can't decide, there's so many I already know. And many that I haven't seen yet. I thought about watching those on netflix and Amazon Prime first before I start streaming somewhere online...
I've already seen
Civil war
Tfatws
Colonia (is that the right name in english as well? I honestly don't know, Google doesn't really tell me)
Krabat (seen that one years ago and I read the book as well XD)
Inglorious basterds (it's also been a while since I've seen this one)
The Alienist
The cloverfield paradox
And of course Cars because I saw that as a child in German...
(I think that's it, I might have missed some tho)
(I still need to force myself to watch rush as well😩)
Please help me, what do I watch next? Or do I just rewatch something I already know??

hello again with non-secret non-santa! i think my favorite movie is a tie between the Black Cauldron and Fried Green Tomatoes. I haven't watched any new movies, so I've mostly been just going back to older ones that I very much enjoy! I have another question for you! What TV shows do you enjoy watching? Popular or not! Why? What in particular draws your eye or emotion to a show? I hope you have a wonderful day while being safe! - 💜
lmao i’m an uncultured swine and has never seen those movies - buT i do know what black cauldron is and i’m so proud of myself
about tv shows - i have severe commitment issues (alksjkfdhask) so i don’t really watch that many of them but the ones i watch i absolutely adore. i usually need someone to buddy watch it with me (usually my mum and/or bro) otherwise i’m not motivated enough. i binged peaky blinders in two weeks purely because of my mum. without her, i would still be stuck on season 2.
here are some i have sat through or like enough to actually remember to watch them lmao:
killing eve - probably my most favourite tv show like ever. i’m not so vocal about it tho so even i forget sometimes how much i actually love it but it’s just the best thing ever made :))
wayne - the end of the f***ing world but american and better? idk man it’s just the second coolest show ever
fleabag - i adore pwb and this shit is the most relatable thing ever
bodyguard - i’ve watched it like three times already and i still love it so much
atypical - i’m still on season 2 so no spoilers please but i love this show so much, it’s my safety blanket
the alienist - underrated piece of pure art
sex education - rewatching this with my brother was the best part of quarantine :’)
peaky blinders - duh
sharp objects - triggering as fuck but i love it and the book is also one of my favs
good omens - i’m still obsessed, i keep rewatching it and i’m even planning on rereading the book next year - help
broadchurch - i love david tennant and olivia colman so much, dude
the queen’s gambit - i lovelovelove anya taylor-joy and i loved the book so much and the show so didn’t disappoint wow the best thing that happened to us in 2020
honourable mentions: collateral; criminal: united kingdom; des (lmao i hate myself, i’m obsessed with british crime dramas way too much); over the garden wall; red band society; criminal minds; the witcher & one day at a time (i absolutely hate how they just cancelled it for good recently like wtf >:( )
i also like documentaries!! (true crime and history, mostly)
what draws my eye to a show? gosh, such a hard question, i really can’t tell. like, i usually go on netflix and see what’s up on there but i’m generally really picky and take the longest time to start a show even if i’m interested. what i know for sure is that i like anything dark and lowkey emotional (even though no media has made me cry in the last 4 years lmao) but i’m mostly into realistic stuff? like i watch and read much less fantasy/sci-fi than i used to and i’m lowkey sad about that so hit me up with your recommendations if you have any :D
(lmao i know i said i don’t watch many tv shows and then gave you a proper list but i swear i don’t have netflix on 24/7. i just find it hard to actually binge a tv show)
what about you, my dear secret santa? what kind of shows do you like and what is your absolute favourite? do our tastes overlap at all? <3

What shows apart from OUAT would you recommend?
Oooh I love this ask. Okay, I have a lot of shows i love, so I’m going to choose my top four of all time….I think…other than OUAT.
One Day at a Time (Netflix, 2017-Present): A comedy featuring a Cuban-American family. But wait, it’s more than just a comedy? It’s a show that has good representation and touches on real issues? Hells yeah, sign me up.
Why is this show good? Because it’s freaking lit. Okay, two seasons on Netflix right now, and let me tell you: Amazing show. The characters are fantastic. You have POC representation, LGBT representation, real single mom struggles, teenage struggles, the struggle for accepting yourself for who you are (whether it be trying to figure out if you are gay or accepting that you are mentally ill and will always have that illness). Like Penelope Alvarez (Jutina Machado deserves all of the awards ever) is a fantastic supportive mom who is also still trying to figure out the things she wants in life, Elena is the gay teenage daughter who’s just starting to figure out life, Alex (Papito!) is the son who’s just too pure, Schnieder the awkward former drug addict/alcoholic who really becomes family, Leslie is Penelope’s awkward older boss who just….like you want him to be happy, and then finally….the icon, the myth, the legend Lydia Riera (portrayed by the iconic Rita Moreno) who is Penelope’s mother who is just integral to the show. So 20/10 recommend.
Lucifer (Fox, 2015-Present): The Devil is living it up in Los Angeles, but after a murder in front of his club, he meets and partners himself up with Detective Chloe Decker. Another cop procedural? Hell no.
Why is it good? It’s a different take on the devil and actually makes him sympathetic, it has a strong female lead, and as the show grows so does the cast which is pretty equal between men and women. Chloe’s a full time mom and full time cop and a badass who doesn’t take Lucifer’s shit, but learns to accept him as a partner. Also Mazikeen is freaking awesome. The female characters are actually pretty well rounded and all have different personalities, but also get along fabulously. Lucifer’s family also tends to show up lol. Also half the cast is POC, like yes please. To be honest I am behind on this show, but I still think it’s worth a watch, and I have got to catch up.
Charmed (WB, 1998-2006): All right this is an old one, but I’m putting on because I have sentimental reasons. This show helped me when I needed something to hold on to at a time when I was very lonely. It’s a show about three sisters who find out that they are witches.
Why is it good?: At it’s core, it’s about sisterhood and family. It also developed a unique fantasy mythology. You have three sisters that all struggle with balancing their lives between normal and magical. They also find out more secrets of their family’s past including: the history of a few ancestors, their mother’s affair, why their father left, a half-sister, and so on. There’s magic, romance, good vs evil, and family above all else. They go through a lot in 8 seasons, and each season has it’s pros and cons and some characters can be…problematic (personally my fave is season 6, but that’s because Chris is my favorite character). All in all it’s a magical show and you will fall in love with the characters. It will always hold a very special place in my heart, and to be honest, if you’ve heard of the CW Charmed Reboot and want to watch, I recommend watching this show first.
The Good Place (NBC, 2016-Present): Eleanor is dead, and so is everyone else. They all made it to The Good Place, a version of the afterlife. The problem? Eleanor isn’t suppose to be there….
Why is it good? Well rounded characters that develop deep friendships and relationships. There’s Eleanor, our main girl, who is a terrible person, but also really wants to learn to be good. Chidi…oh Chidi….so pure, cinnamon roll, I adore him. He is an ethics professor who tries to teach Eleanor to be good. Tahani, you think is gonna be an alpha bitch, but like no? I mean she comes off that way at first but there’s more to her. Jason….oh bless him. Jason is a sweetheart, but the first bit of season 1, he never talks, and there’s a very good reason for it. Janet is also very cool and tries to be more human. Michael, oh what to say about Michael. He’s like so desperate for his “Good Place” to work out. You’ll never see the twist at the end of season 1 coming or I didn’t, but maybe I was too distracted by my love for all of these characters.
Other Recommendations: Black-ish, The West Wing, Grace and Frankie, Star Trek (like pick any of them but TOS is really the heart and core of the franchise), Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Father Brown, Call the Midwife, Broadchurch (BBC), The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Death in Paradise, Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn-99, The Alienist, like I know there are more shows that I am forgetting because I watch way too much tv lol.
Willing to answer anything that comes in ask right now

A get to know me tag game, tagged by @sarkattack Last song I listened to: Maneskin, Torna a casa.     I am obsessed with this band at the moment, it’s been YEARS since finding something new to listen to has made me this excited. Please, please, please, if you haven’t listened to them yet, give them a try!
Last movie I watched: The Full Monty!       One of my favourite movies of all time anyway, this happened to be on the TV a couple nights ago which was a delight. Is there anything better than being surprised by a great movie when you finally decide to flick out of Netflix? XD
Currently reading: A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.      I always have a book on the go, but its been ages since I read a classic. I went to a gorgeous antiques place with a friend a week ago and came across a 1910, colour illustrated edition of this book and simply had to have it. The book shop there was the most gorgeous, crammed, overflowing maze of bookshelves and I basically had to get dragged away after pining over everything for an hour XD
Currently watching: The Alienist.        Again :’D I have a degree in forensic psychology so it should come as no surprise that this series, to me, is just SO GOOD. Plus, I love Daniel Bruhl (or basically any man who can speak several languages) and his character is so intense and dark and emotional and ;_____;
Currently craving: Something salty.          Haha, yeah yeah, get your minds outta the gutter XD I’m definitely more into savoury food than sweet food, and right now I’m hankering for like... salty popcorn, or cheese and crackers, or olives... As far as options go, the only one I have available is popcorn so I’ll probably have that when I watch the news before bed, like a really bleak movie...
I tag @svengaliprism

anonymous asked: OHHH NETFLIX RECS PLS!!
anonymous asked: NETFLIX RECS PLS PLS 🙇‍♀️
omg I hope they don't let you down lol. I'm just going through my list
The Queen's Gambit: definitely nothing I ever would have watched if it hadn't shown up on my timeline, but it's a suuuuper interesting show. binged it in like two days
Castlevania: I always struggled with anime, but I binged castlevania in like two days. absolutely looooved that it wasn't like the childish animes that I used to watch lol
Star Trek: Discovery: even if you know nothing about star trek, that show is just amaaaazing. the poc cast always made me so happy like FINALLY
The Crown: everyone has seen this at this point, right? last season was insane and I wanted to strangle a certain someone (:
Crash Landing On You: I never cried more when watching a kdrama. seriously. if you haven't seen it yet, do it. you won't regret it
Hospital Playlist: just a super fun series. jiho forced me to watch it with him, but I'm super glad he did haha
BBC Sherlock: does this count? well, if you haven't seen sherlock yet, please do yourself the favor and watch it
Black Mirror: creeps me the fuck out but is one of the best shows I've ever seen in my entire life
Hwarang: because reasons.
Pinocchio: one of the first kdramas I've ever seen and I'm glad it was this one
A Korean Odyssey: this one is controversial. it got such bad ratings but I personally loved it. it was something else entirely. I guess this one you just have to give a chance
The Alienist: pro tip: don't watch this with your parents. sexy times ahead but such good ones. the show is freaking fantastic
Space Force: another binge watching candidate. died laughing while watching this
The King: a movie, but one you should definitely watch if you get the chance, it's fantastic
The K2: another one I watched early on. older kdramas like this hit differently
It's Okay Not To Be Okay: everything about this drama is fucking fantastic. EVERYTHING.
Was it Love: BROOOOO, this one had me google "who is the father" because I couldn't wait for the ending lol. such a good show tho
Vagabond: jeeeeez, I love this one so much. It might be hard to tell, but I prefer action dramas more than the lovey-dovey ones and vagabond is PERFECT in that regard
Hotel Del Luna: how I fell in love with IU, a story
The Umbrella Academy: mcu's baby brother. absolutely loved this show and can't wait for the next season
Tiger King: Yeah, idk, I was way too late to the party, but I know people talked about this show for weeks. I personally also loved it
My Secret Romance: ooooh, I live for this drama, like, yes, yOu HAD SEX, GOOD FOR YOU
Kakegurui: oh maaaan, this one was such a random watch that ended up in me binging the show in one go lol. if you like gambling animes, this one is for you
Tempted: the german in this show makes me cringe so hard, but it's still a good drama with an interesting story lol
Signal: WHERE IS THE NEXT SEASON FOR FUCK'S SAKE
Extracurricular: another candidate for the best korean show I've ever seen, seriously
Crime Scene Hotel Cecil: this one is the odd one out, but if you haven't heard of this case and are into true crime, this show is fantastic

A Day in Visual Effects
I had the opportunity to spend the day at the visual effects company ‘Peerless.’ I did a bit of research before I went in and found that they have worked on some great films such as Robin Hood: Origins, Spectre, Assassin’s Creed and London Has Fallen. They have worked on TV programs like The Alienist, The Secret Agent, Stan Lee’s Luck Man Series 3 and new Netflix drama The Innocents.
In the morning, I met the staff and was shown round by the Co-ordinator as the Director was out doing a location rekkie.
They were very kind to let me watch what I wanted and so I sat down with a few people, digital artist, compositors, rotoscoping and 3D artists. It was great to get an insight as to what they do and how they do it. They were working on a BBC One drama that is due out soon. I can’t say too much but it looks brilliant and the work they have done so far, is amazing. They told me that they had a few scenes ready and allowed me to watch some in a screening room. This was  a team update to let the manager and everyone else know where they are and what needs to be done. It was also a chance for people the express their own opinions, both positive and any improvements.
I came back after lunch and was invited to stay on if I wanted to, to see a screening with the writers of the new drama and I said that’ll be lovely.
I had the chance to sit with other people and watch the 3D artist and compositors work. I found it interesting to know what software they were using as I’d not used them before. They work with the programs ‘Nuke’, ‘Katana’ and ‘Mari.’ These were new to me.
It was nearing the end of the afternoon and the writers arrived to preview the scenes that we had completed. On the whole, they were pleased with the outcome. They mentioned that one shot, the green screen needed to be removed and the artists knew that and the other was to add a bit more blood in another shot/scene. This was something I had never experienced before and was amazed by the the artists and compositors work.
Even though it was for a day, I imagined myself working in a similar environment and very much enjoyed it and I see myself working in this exciting industry. I learnt so much about the company and what it’s like to work there. It was great to see how much time and dedication the staff put into their work and It shows in the examples they have produced.
