hey there gaymers, i am crissy! i am 22, live in pst, go by she/her pronouns and honestly would very much like a distraction from life -- preferably in the form of 1x1 and rp in general. i am currently doing online school plus trying/failing at adulting, being a crazy pink haired college student living on microwave dimsum with my crazy fluffy demon cat, but that still leaves me with a lot of time and what better way to spend that time then crying and dying, am i right, boys?

COLLEGE TOTALLY SPIES -- i was really obsessed with this picture right here and i thought that the picture would be a good premise for a little four person group based on totally spies. i was thinking that these three college students/young adults some friends maybe not some enemies or just on completely different ends of the social agenda get bonded together when they accidentally end up roped in a top secret spy organization that is fronted by a record store. the details and flesh of the plot i think would be cute to figure out all together maybe in a google doc or a big discord so we can make the rp to perfect world building specifications. right now i have two spots open!

nobody gets to pick their beginnings. it’s something that people tell knox all the time, hell, it’s plastered in every stupid coming of age movie, book, film, everything he’s ever seen. you don’t pick who your born into, you don’t pick who you get to be. and to an extent, he does think that this is true but he can’t help but wonder if maybe, if people could pick, if they’d pick differently. because he knows he certainly would pick differently.

it’s not that he even came from a bad home - hell no, he had the most loving family ever. his mother was a saint, a warm sensation bubbling up in his chest when he thinks about her warm cookies or the way she tried to still tuck him in even as a teenager. his father had his flaws, we all do, but he was a good and honest man. hardworking, he showed knox what that stupid american dream is that everyone likes to preach about.

no, it had nothing to do with them but rather the overall opinion on him and his family. see, the drury’s weren’t well liked - they were seen as lowlives and as shady, the kind of people who you’d only go to if you wanted to get stabbed in the back. generations of drury’s fit this narrative but no, his father was determined to change that. and so was he, even if nobody around him seemed to want to give him a chance.

knox would go throughout school with this name attached to him like a dagger to his throat - whisperings in the hallway of, “oh, my mom said the drury boy might be steal things if you let him over,” and other random, rude remarks. of course, the people that get close to him know better - they see him for who he really is.

that person is knox. he’s a golden light, often more selfless than the rich pricks who run that small town. he’d give his jacket or umbrella to people even if they didn’t ask if it just so happened to be raining outside, and despite the fact that his family didn’t have a lot, he’d still go out of his way to try to give when he could.

he eventually graduated high school - one of the top people in his class due to his father’s encouragement, and after a lot of debate, settled on attending haddon university - miles away from that sweet, small little hometown he knew, but a fresh start where he didn’t have to work for anything. he could just go in being him, with nobody attaching a new narrative to him. it was what he wanted, what he dreamed of.

and he loved it. his first semester there was memorable as he found himself surrounded by new friends and people he even considered family. back home, however, things were slipping.

the drury family was never rich, ever by any means, but business was low. nobody wanted to go there, fearing that his father was just as shady as his grandfather. as things got worse, his father had to resort to other needs - stealing, lying about taxes, and doing everything he could to try to make it by.

it finally caught up to him when knox came home for spring break - red and blue lights flashing outside as loud noises went on throughout the house, until finally someone swung knox’s door open and briefly blinded him with a flashlight, demanding to know where his father was. by the time knox got a grasp on the situation, his father was being rushed off in the back of a cop car.

he plead guilty almost immediately and for the next few months, knox did school from home to stay with his mother. it was then that he switched his major from what had initially been just a vague, business degree to political science in hopes of going into law after getting that degree - a way of changing things, of helping people so they never got to that point.

for now though, he’s gone back to haddon’s campus where he study’s away and occasionally finds himself slipping and partying, glasses always covering his eyes as he slinks back class, getting almost nO sleep every night.

that also makes him kinda... super, actually, naive. you see, while knox is incredibly loyal, he often finds himself ignoring signs of toxicity for the sake of preserving a friendship - he fights for people who won’t fight for him, he lets people back in too easily, he just. he sees the good in everyone, even if there isn’t any good.

regardless, he’s not easy to just... manipulate to an extent. while he’ll fall for you being innocent, you can’t ever try to make him think he’s something he’s not - he knows his intentions and he knows they’re usually pure and he’s not gonna fold for anyone if it comes down to him or them.

Hello! I read your rant, i am sorry for butting in. But i think you are not problem here? Like cleary those people are not good friends to you . Friends don't bully and are mean to each other. If it happens (by accident) you can tell them it upset you and they will stop.

I also think that friends would explain to each other about things they like, for example, one of my best friends loves dark souls but i can't play games. So she often tells me about dark souls, explain to me the bosses, game mechanics and stuff. She never bullied me for getting something wrong or off, do you know what i mean?

Of course group chats can be chaotic too and quite draining. I do not handle them well either i get overwhelmed.

Again, i think the problem is then being mean to you and group chats being overwhelming as well. Don't blame yourself over it. Its not your fault, just do what its best for you. It may be hard, but your mental health is important.

No it’s not a problem to me, very rarely do I get asks these days so it’s always a nice surprise to see one. Ah yes, that group really was mean spirited, it happen a long while back when Discord wasn’t a big thing as it is now ( wow I’m showing my age here ) and I didn’t really last that long in there because I realized that when the mods were leaving because how toxic it was, so did I. It was a Fire Emblem base group and the fandom is pretty huge, but these type of people were hardcore veterans and really didn’t like the new installments at the time and here was me who first played a “modern” Fire Emblem, so you can see where the trouble is. It wasn’t meant to be and I was a bit sad I had to leave it because it was my first attempt to try and socialize online without my actual friends and it backfired really hard on me, one day when I’m comfortable I might try again, but right now I’m just fine where I am of just posting things that’s on my brain.

I actually do like it when my friends explain the things they like to me, like I have one friend who gets into many things when she’s bored and ask me if I heard it when I say no she explains it to me since that’s just our thing sometimes, we talk about the things we like and engage into it, however in the group chat we are in together, it has about 14 people in there, but only like…8 talk in there ( most of them are my friends their own friends in there and I’m horrible at saying ‘no’ so they kind of taken it as a green light to invite the person and then the said person never speaks again after being in there for a week ), but since the pandemic last year it’s been pretty quiet since they’re in other group chats with others to talk about whatever video games that came out, the hugest thing to happen in there was Genshin Impact and I told them nicely that I couldn’t get into another gacha game plus I really can’t physically play the game, so they respected that and I guess that’s why it’s been quiet because they are really into Genshin Impact, so it’s like ‘sorry you can’t play this game with us, so we’ll just talk about it almost all the time’. I listen to them talk about other things, but sometimes it feels like when I try to talk in there, they mostly don’t respond back ever or change the subject completely. I have brought it up to them many times, but it’s not really working which I don’t like because they’re nice people, really they are! But I guess since I don’t play many of the games they do or have the nostalgia for a long running series, I’m just kind of…Brushed off? Like I use to go into Discord call almost every night in that chat, but these days it’s once in a blue moon.

I also think I get frustrated when I can’t do these silly rants, they tend to think it’s like my core personality, when it’s not, sometimes I just wanna rant about bad RNG in the gacha games I play and I’ll feel better, but I don’t do it often because again they just change the subject or brush me off, this happen last year but a character that many of us wanted and almost everyone in my chat got this character on the first day of the banner, but I didn’t at the time and I just ranted a little about how RNG was a big butt, but one of my friends took it a little personally about how she felt bad that I didn’t get the character when she did pretty early so two of my friends basically told me that was kind of uncalled for that I did that—to ruin someone else’s fun I guess is the word? And it hurt a lot because I never intended to do that, so it was kind of an eye opener to me and since then it hasn’t felt the same for me since. We also talk about role playing, but like with video games they have other chats that they talk about their OCs or characters they RP as, and so whenever I wanna talk about my characters I stopped myself because nothing will come out of it. It’s the lack of interaction and I hate to say it, but bias towards my friend who I mention early, because ( I hate comparing ) if I’m feeling down in the dumps whenever I bring it up, it’s not much of a big deal, but if my friend is? It gets pretty active, so it just makes me self doubt a lot if they really see me as a friend or just someone I happen to be a friend if that makes sense.

Sorry for going off course , but yeah I get what you mean because I don’t understand many game mechanic things myself. I’m a millennial that didn’t grow up with video games till I was 11 years old, and even then I have small handful of game series I play.

Yeah in high school their was this group I was in and it had over 10 people in it and I just hated it so much that I didn’t hang out with them much or when I do, I just stay quiet and hope lunch ends lmao.

Battery, charging, and electrical-system maladies are a growing problem with new cars as they become weighed-down by 1,000-watt factory entertainment systems, power accessories, and other consumer electronics. Add extremes of cold and heat (did you know that summertime is the most likely time for a battery to fail?) and you’ll wonder if the OEM struck a secret deal with your local battery dealer. Stopping the madness with a trickle charger is not just insurance against possible trouble, it’s a guaranteed time saver in our experience.

The Viking 63350 battery tender is a no frills unit with everything a high-tech car needs. Capable of charging all battery types from flooded lead / acid and deep-cycle to absorbed glass matt (AGM) and gel cell, this 4-amp tender will automatically charge and keep topped off any kind of automotive battery. Lithium-ion battery technology is evolving at breakneck speed, and the product class of jump-start battery packs came on strong from day one. As a result, it’s a saturated marketplace, and that means it’s hard to know where to dive in. RavPower is just one of many companies importing lithium-powered jump-start products, and we chose them because, well, they chose us. We got an email from RavPower asking if we wanted to try one of their new RP-PB063 battery packs from the Element+ series. We said yes, and a few days later this unit showed up.

On paper, the Element+ has good specifications, like its 14,000mAh capacity. In the realm of lithium jump-start packs, this is in the prevailing sweet spot, which seems to range between 10,000 to just a bit over 20,000 mAh. (To give you a measure of comparison, the battery in a Samsung Galaxy S7 is about 2,000 mAh.) As technology evolves, this will no doubt go higher, but for now the 14,000 mAh rating of the RavPower is on solid ground.

The engine cranking power of the Element+ is rated at 1,000 amps, which is fantastic—if that means the same thing as cold cranking amps—the preferred method of rating the starting power of automotive batteries in the United States. The only thing wrong with the amp rating here is that it seems to be too high for the thin gauge of cables included in the kit (8 AGW). Our conclusion is that the amp rating of 1,000 amps can’t in fact be the same as a continuous cold cranking amp rating that we are so used to, but perhaps helpful nonetheless in comparing similar units.

Harbor Freight Viking Jump Pack Part No.: 62749 How much: $79.99 ($59.99 with coupon)

At first glance, the Harbor Freight Tools jump pack has a similar feature set as the RavPower, with ample capacity to boost a low battery, recharge multiple consumer devices, or provide emergency illumination. A padded case with USB cable, operation manual, jumper cable jaws, and wall outlet charger are included just like the RavPower. Harbor Freight also includes a cigarette-lighter charging kit—a handy provision for keeping the pack continuously topped off while driving—plus a USB charging cable that also has a provision for charging older Apple devices as well as Androids (USB).

The size of the kit’s storage case is more accommodating than the RavPower, a plus while fumbling in murky light when it’s likely to be needed. The jump pack itself is more substantial than the RavPower, with beefy rubber shock-proof corners and a bright red body that’s easy to find in a dark engine compartment. It looks like it belongs in an Alaskan tow truck, not a student’s back pack, or at least the look promises that, and that’s the rub. As a group, these units have a safety feature that prevents their use as a jump pack when battery voltage is 12 volts or higher, meaning we were unable to test either of them on a car before press time. (If there’s a “down” side to testing products in Southern California’s winter weather, this would be it.)

Fortunately, we’ve seen the use of other lithium battery jump-start products out in the field and can report that as a group they work well as emergency battery boosters; they’re already considered indispensible by tow truck drivers, repair shops, and used car lots. Harbor Freight’s Viking unit does buck the trend by rating its unit in realistic cranking amps, stating on the box 221 amps of starting current and peak current of 450 amps. Storage capacity on the Viking 62749 is rated at 12,000 mAh.

The Truth About Cranking Amps

If you’re used to seeing car batteries rated in cold cranking amps, it may come as a bit of a surprise that offshore lithium battery packs seem to be optimistically rated. Search eBay or Amazon and you’ll see dozens of portable lithium-ion jump-start packs with amp ratings of 600, 1,000, even 1,700 amps. It seems too good to be true, and it is. (The rowdiest diesels get by with less than 1,000 cold cranking amps.) Starter packs use an instantaneous rating based on a full charge at room temp with no resistance and no impedance. An arbitrary rating like this is what happens when the people who design the batteries are new to car ownership, and don’t yet buy car batteries. To be fair, it’s an honest mistake, but one you’ll end up paying for.

The problem is, starting a car requires continuous amperage, sometimes for 5 or 10 seconds. In a perfect world, starter packs would be rated in CCA (cold cranking amps), the same as car batteries. Without that spec, you’re next best bet is to look at the amp-hour rating of the starter pack (usually in milliamp-hours, or mAh for short.) The higher, the better. The other important thing is the thickness and length of the starter cables. Thicker, shorter jumper cable runs are preferable to long, thin ones. Also, we recommend the overload protection be in the cables, not internal to the unit, as a damaged set of cables can be more easily replaced. To illustrate the point, the RavPower jump-start pack has gauge 8 AWG cabling, which can only handle 24 amps continuous—well off the 1,000-amp battery rating. The only reason why it’s not a problem is that the cables are short, and the run time for the current is assumed to be very short—much less than the 10 seconds and repeatable duty cycle we’d prefer.

The one exception we found was Harbor Freight Tools, which chose to put the actual starting current on the product packaging. In theory, you’d add the 221 cranking amps (claimed on the box) to the amperage the car battery has in its semi-discharged state—let’s call it a lame 300 amps—for a total of 521 available cranking amps to the engine.

In all cases, with lithium jump-start packs it should be considered a “one-and-done” proposition, meaning for occasional emergency use. If it doesn’t fire on the first or second try, you may be calling for a tow, so make that juice count. For that reason, things like cable thickness, a short cable length, and strong, beefy clamps can make as much a difference as the battery pack’s power.
