Some young male dignitaries at a royal gathering: *telling some tall tale of their “bravery” that is clearly made up*
Raya: *sitting a distance aways, slouched back, wordlessly holds palm out to Namaari*
Namaari: *gives her a piece of chocolate wordlessly*
One of the young men: *stating that he took on a pride of 50 serlots and came out with only one set of claw marks as a scar*
Raya: *rolling her eyes, holds palm out again*
Namaari: *gives her another piece of chocolate wordlessly*
Sisu: *Watching confused, leans into Namaari and Raya and whispers* Raya got your sweet tooth now?
Namaari: *shakes head* I’m rewarding her impulse control
Raya: *looks to Sisu and whispers back* Everytime I resist the urge to flip a table and call them out, I get chocolate
Namaari: *under her breath* We don’t want a repeat of the Tail wedding
Raya: *hears anyway* That Spine blow hard deserved it
One of the men: *points towards Raya and Namaari* You princesses could learn a thing or two from us
Raya: *eye twitches*
Namaari: *hastiedly tries to hand a chocolate that Raya ignores*
The other men: *drunkenly* Don’t worry, we’ll always be here to protect you
Namaari: *hands Raya three pieces as Raya remains seated*
The first man again: Maybe we could spar with the gem guardian... teach her a thing or two
The second man: We’ll get her to stop fighting like a girl
Sisu: *Eyebrows raise*
Raya: *looks to Namaari and glares*
Namaari: *holds her hands up* Okay, okay. They seeled their own fate. *pops chocolate in her own mouth and leans back*
Raya: *flies up and grabs her sword, ready to show them what being the guardian of the dragon gem means*
Sisu: *watching the ensuing duel as Raya wipes the floor with the men even though its two against one* That’s gonna leave marks for weeks
Namaaari: *cheering, passing Sisu Chocolate* Get ‘em, dep la!
Benja: *proudly from a distance* That’s my daughter!

Conversation
Raya and the Last Dragon: Namaaari betrays Raya as a child, helps start the apocalypse, sits pretty as a princess while the rest of the kingdoms are turned to stone, rubs it in Raya’s face every time she tracks her down, betrays Raya again by bringing a crossbow to their “peace talk” and “accidentally” shoots Sisu, blames Raya instead of owning up to her actions, and only redeems herself at the very last minute, though she still doesn’t apologize for anything.
Fandom reaction: Namaari is so great! Even more of a hero than Raya! Those two should be a couple!
Encanto: Alma is traumatized by losing her home and her husband, wants to protect her family by pressuring them to be perfect and thus worthy of the magical protection, but once she finally realizes she’s hurting them and driving them away, she takes responsibility, makes a sincere apology to Mirabel and Bruno, and vows to be better.
Fandom reaction: Ugh, she’s the worst! Worst Disney parent ever! Her apology isn’t good enough, Mirabel should have just cut her off completely!

Mistletoe (a short Rayamaari Drabble)
Rated G-T, silliness and Benja wanting his daughter to admit her feelings about Namaari. COFFEE SHOP AU. (Modern)
“Dad- seriously?”
Benja smirked, looking back at his daughter standing a few good steps away. Arms crossed, looking far too much like her Mother when they were her age. Add a light tap of her foot and she was the splitting image of her.
However, there was no time for foot tapping when she was stomping her way over to him. Ready to pull down the “last minute” decoration he had added to their coffee shop. Matching the red and green shimmery tinsel they hung along the walls.
“Dad- I told you no mistletoe!” She groaned, immediately reaching for the tiny decor. Missing it as her Father playfully pushed her back, “we don’t need customers kissing in here-!”
“Oh come on now, dewdrop-“ he chirped, “it’s tradition!”
Raya rolled her eyes, “I don’t remember you putting this up last year-“
“It’s a new tradition!” He laughed, “and it’s not like the customers will be behind the counter anyways-“
“That is not the point-“
“I moved it from the front door like you asked-?”
“I asked you to take it down, not move it to the employee door-“
“Fine..” Benja sighed, raising his hands in mock defeat, “take it down if you must-“
Raya gave him a confused look, clearly a bit curious how her own Ba had suddenly given up on arguing with her so soon. Knowing they both bumped heads on little things like this for hours at a time. That is until she approached the doorway and he quickly snatched the stool away from her before she could use it to reach the offending mistletoe. Too high for her to reach, yet low enough that it would annoy the absolute crap out of her.
“DAD-?!” Raya groaned again, jumping then to reach it.
Distracted, too focused on the obstacle.
Just as he wanted.
“What?” He smirked, “too short, dewdrop?”
“I’m-…ha….taller..than you!” She snapped, pausing in between jumps. “God you’re being such a-“
“You two fighting again?” A third voice joined in, almost a bit too perfectly timed, belonging to their employee- Namaari, as she came through the employee door carefully around Raya.
The woman, hardly a year older than Raya, hearing his daughter’s distress and wanting to come help. As usual. Just as Benja planned.
“She’s trying to take down my decorations-“ Benja moped, forcing a fake frown.
Namaari gave him a sympathetic look, while his daughter gave him a grumpy one.
“Dad- it’s inappropriate for a work space..” Raya grumbled, trying then to reach by standing on her tippy toes.
“I said you could take it down-“ he sighed, dramatically.
And on cue- Namaari stepped forward.
“Here, Raya- I’ll help.” She offered, trying to reach for it as well. The pair moving directly under the door frame where the mistletoe was hanging.
Benja waited until her fingertips had just barely taken ahold of the leaves, pulling it down with a single hop up, before he spoke.
“Fine- it’s down.” He said, “however, as the rules of Christmas state- you both have a duty to fulfill-“
Both women turned, looking confused. Namaari’s arm hilariously still suspended in the air with the mistletoe in hand. Clearly not understanding, so Benja had to spell it out for them.
“You both are under the mistletoe-“ he teased, “therefore you must kiss!”
Still, even as he said this, it took Raya a moment to catch up with what her Father was saying. Namaari got it immediately, her hand dropping down as her face flushed red. Looking from Raya to the floor, waiting for her reaction silently. His daughter’s far more explosive than that of his employee’s when she did connect the dots.
Cheeks red, eyebrows furrowed.
“DAD- seriously?!” She yelled, embarrassed now.
Benja waved his hand at her, turning on his heels.
“I’ll look away.” He joked as he turned around, “better get to it or that’s seven years bad luck!”
“That’s the wrong holiday.” was Raya’s response, followed by the door swinging open and then closed as she went to throw away the mistletoe in the back.
The moment passing far too soon as they both were quick to get back to work. Neither of them kissing, which Benja knew wouldn’t happen, but another victory in his eyes as he saw the two of them working closer now than they had before as the morning dragged on. His daughter’s eyes locked onto Namaari whenever there was a moment to spare, Namaari’s blush increasingly more noticeable every time she saw Raya smile.
Both of them caught feelings months ago, back when Benja first hired Namaari to assist them at their family coffee shop. It was obvious, his daughter hardly subtle with how she practically tripped over her own feet just to work alongside Namaari whenever she could. Namaari no better as she too showed an interest in her.
The pair of them were just so-….oblivious. Needing a bit of a push to get them going in small silly moments like Benja had done today. Hoping this got them to the point of finally dating, maybe even for Christmas!
Benja could only hope.
This was, in fact, the holiday where miracles happen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Closing up shop was far easier now that they had Namaari. Raya’s Dad couldn’t do the long hours anymore, not with his leg acting up and his age showing more. He often went home by 3 p.m, leaving the coffee shop to Raya and Namaari until they closed at 7. Easily the best part of Raya’s day as the evening significantly slowed down their customer count and they only had a few loyals popping in from time to time, leaving plenty of time to clean up early.
And talk.
They always did a lot of talking.
Hanging out, getting to know one another over the past few months. Leading Raya to develop feelings for their new employee. Which her Dad clearly picked up on since he was trying desperately to get them together. Much to her embarrassment.
The latest scheme the whole mistletoe fiasco, which had Raya spending most of her afternoon taking down the ones her Father had planted all over the shop.
Twenty of them, which were somehow managing to always be above Raya and Namaari at the perfect time. Her Father pointing it out playfully, even as he was walking out the door for home.
God-…he could be so embarassing…
Raya assumed she had them all by closing time as she checked all over the coffee shop for random mistletoe that was taped up on doorframes and windows and even on the dishwasher. The last being the back door where Namaari and her took the trash to the dumpster on the way out, locking up for the night, the pair walking up the alleyway to the Main Street.
“Sorry about-…all that..” Raya awkwardly mentioned, feeling her entire face heat up as Namaari watched her. “He just likes to joke way too much-“ she added, grumbling.
“It’s all good fun.” Namaari said, laughing, making Raya feel worlds better then, “my Moms the same way, always trying to set me up on a date.”
Raya nodded, putting her hands inside her pockets as the cold hit them with a mighty force of wind. Frozen down to her bones, dreading the walk home.
“Well- at least I got all of them.” She mentioned, meaning the mistletoes, “so-“
“Oh,” Namaari suddenly said, looking at Raya’s back as she cut her off. “Actually it looks like you forgot one.”
Raya paused, confused.
“What?”
Namaari chuckled, reaching then to Raya’s back. She felt something unstick itself from her back and when Namaari brought it forward, Raya saw that she indeed had missed one. A mistletoe had been taped to her coat, right on her back.
She took one look at the mistletoe and groaned, angrily.
“Dad…” she cursed, practically seeing his mischievous smile then as he hid this final mistletoe on her coat before she left. A simple trick, knowing she wouldn’t think to check her belongings for it.
Namaari smirked, twisting it in her fingertips.
“He’s committed…” she mentioned.
“Yeah committed to drive me insane..” Raya scoffed, reaching then to take the mistletoe from her.
Namaari relinquished it to her with ease, the pair watching it now as it sat in Raya’s hand. Silence enveloped them, the only noise being that of the wind blowing through them. Then Raya’s eyes lifted and she found Namaari was watching her, soft eyes focused on her own. A moment arising, realizing then how close they had stepped to one another. Heat lifting from her, neither quite so cold as they once were.
Namaari was the first to speak, smooth as ever.
“So it’s bad luck not to, huh?”
Raya scoffed playfully, “wrong holiday..”
Namaari shrugged.
“Do you wanna take that chance?”
Raya didn’t say anything to that, letting the words wash over her for a moment before she leaned forward and pressed her lips against Namaari’s. Soft, easy enough, before she moved back. Her heart racing as she saw Namaari’s face, a bit surprised- maybe caught off guard by the fact Raya actually had just done that; before a relieved sigh escaped her and she smiled.
“I’ve been wanting to do that..” she mentioned, tucking back her hair behind her ear, “for awhile.”
Raya pressed her lips together, trying to downplay how happy she felt in the moment.
“Well-…we did just stand under it like…twenty times today…” she pointed out, “should we-“
Namaari cut her off with another kiss, seeing what she was asking and accepting the offer before the words could even come out of her mouth. Raya smiled into the kiss then, wrapping her arms around her while Namaari her closer by wrapping her own arms around her waist.
The joy between them immense at this Christmas miracle.
Stupid/Silly scene I can’t get out of my head for Rayamaari pt 2.
(Raya and Namaari, hanging out in Fang/Heart together months after the events of the movie)
Raya: (rambling, as usual, to Namaari about whatever comes across her mind while she paces back and forth across the room)
Namaari: (silently listening but finishing up some work at her desk)
Raya: - and then Sisu had to apologize to half of Heart when she basically catapulted herself into the stalls for the upcoming festivals, which took forever so that’s why we arrived late…😆
Namaari: mhm 😌
Raya: we talked about you for a bit on the trip over and she said I should tell you I like you-..oh! But you wouldn’t believe who we ran into on the way over-!
Namaari, nearly choking: w-what..? 😳
Raya: -Atitaya! We saw her on the road to Fang, wayyy further out, traveling with family. You NEVER told me she was married, Namaari! 😆 I got to meet her kid and-
Namaari: wait- Raya back up-…you like me? Like-…more than a friend? 😳
Raya, annoyed: ugh- yes? pay attention!? 😑
Namaari: Ah- 🧍‍♀️
Raya: so her kid-…he’s EIGHT??
(Continues to ramble like she didn’t just drop the biggest statement to Namaari a second ago 😂)
Randomly thinking about Namaari having a hard time adjusting back to being civil with other nations and not being in the mentality “we do what we can to survive” or like “nobody disrespects us- unless they want a beat down!!”
So then-
someone like disrespects Raya at some point and she vents to Namaari about it- just cause it bugs her and they are becoming close friends. And Namaari genuinely feels bad and wants to fix it so then this happens-
Raya: (casually hanging out with Namaari)
Namaari: oh, by the way- that person who hurt your feelings the other day-
Raya: oh yeah- hey, it was just a dumb thing, I’m feeling better now anyways and- 😅
Namaari, interjecting: -it’s been handled. 🫡
Raya: -…what? 🙂
Namaari: it’s been handled- 🤨
Raya: 😐
Namaari: 😐
Raya: 😐
Namaari: 😐
Raya: what did you do- ? 😬
Namaari: …….it’s been handled 😐
Modern AU of Rayamaari- similar events where Raya and Namaari stopped being close because of drama with families, betrayal, and eventual reconnection where later Raya realizes she has deep feelings for Namaari.
She wants to smother the feelings away, while Sisu convinces her to finally open up to Namaari about her feelings. Somehow- they come up with the bright idea to call her since it’s “less scary” than saying it straight to her face and the scene plays out like this:
Raya: (paces back and forth as she begins dialing Namaari’s home phone number)
Sisu: (quietly giving her a thumbs up on the other side of the room)
Raya: (starts panicking as she hears the call is going through and someone answers)
Voice: hello-?
Raya: NAMAARI- hey, it’s Raya, yknow- I mean… of course you know, I mean- maybe you don’t…I guess Raya might be a popular name? I don’t know! Listen- I wanted to call you cause I recently found out I Ah- …well I guess I more realized for awhile now-…or always knew but just became aware of-…well, okay- I’m just gonna spit it out and-….(groans) okay- I like you a lot, like a LOT A LOT, and I know it’s weird and out of the blue, but I can’t stop thinking about you and I feel like we’ve had tons of moments where I think something might happen between us, and like- maybe it will, maybe it won’t! I well-….I just think we have something here, I think maybe if you feel the same way…which it’s fine if you dont, we could start dating. Cause I think that would be logical and neat and yeah, I know no one says NEAT anymore but I’m really crazy about you so I’m not making much sense. All I do know is that I’ve been sitting on these feelings for probably years now- I mean, I guess I just didn’t think that wanting to kiss you was weird…or maybe I just didn’t acknowledge that side of me because I was afraid of making things weirder between us so all those times we use to fight, I suppose that was my way of masking all the times I wanted to be with you or kiss you or-…yeah…and I know I’m talking a lot now so I’ll shut up and let you speak so…yeah-..that’s everything-….does that…make sense?
Voice:…….
Raya: N-Namaari…?
Voice: yes- um…this is actually her Mother…Mrs Fang-…
Raya: ……….😨
Voice: ……….. 😳
Voice: Ah-….I’ll put her on….just one moment-…
Raya:….thank you…Mrs. Fang…😫
