Fun, potentially devastating idea for a ratld fic.

What if when they were turned to stone and brought back, it caused them to lose their memories?!

Imagine not everyone in the RATLD crew was turned to stone. What if only Raya and Namaari had escaped being turned to stone? How would they handle the world that returns? How would Raya handle the pain of looking into her Father’s eyes and realizing he doesn’t even know who she is or who he is.

OR- what if it was only Namaari who hadn’t been turned to stone out of most of the land, then was dealt with the choice of being honest with Raya about EVERYTHING or taking the opportunity to flip the script and keep her innocence in all of this?

Bonus- yet terrifying idea- Namaari keeps the truth from her about how Sisu’s gem broke, wanting peace for her sins. She skips the details about Fang’s part in it- weaving a tale about how it was everyone’s collective fault- and how they had become friends despite the hostility between the various lands. Basically the betrayal and the last six years erased the more people she’s told- until it’s just a bad thought in the back of her head.

Still- It’s her biggest lie and she feels guilt by it. only in time does she accept that she’s made her choice and it was too late to turn back.

Raya and her are married, the nations all aligned and good- Kumandra is formed and better than ever. Everyone is happy

Then, just like that, everyone remembers the real story- everyone’s memories returning all at once.

I really love that Raya and Sisu's arcs come to a neat intersection, once 1. Sisu can reconnect with the magic of her eldest sibling who she looks up to the most, feeling Pengu's presence

and 2. we finally see Raya visiting her father (it is unknown if this is the first time she has returned here since the trauma of being separated from him), who is obviously still under the Druun sleep spell.

Whatever Benja means to his daughter, is what Pengu must be to his younger sister.

All this happens after the duo has won Tong's trust (leaving only Namaari, their most skeptical adversary in Fang, to convince in order to rebuild the Dragon Gem).

The group regaining more of the gem pieces and recruiting their new comrades, forging new connections, is the opposite of more and more people in the world falling under the stone sleep spell. One current runs against the flow of the other as the plot gets closer to the final confrontation.

Like..apparently most people who resonated with this movie when it was released could do so because the world was going through collective grief thanks to Covid. But I hardly resonated with that, being fine with much alone time at home during those months. That's why during my first viewing it was more "Aww, that's poignant. Cool symbolism".

My thoughts are too incoherent for a longer neater meta right now but the film hits me differently now because I see the stone statues as representing proper graves.

I dont know why I never posted this... I drew it so long ago, but alas... here i am today to bring to your day a lil drawing of dancing Raya.

Also this is a reminder to all of those of you who would think that for six years, she's been away from her world so she won't know how to dance... people, she's the princess of Heart—the most festive of all the lands. I mean look at her and Benja! She's so happy dancing! She dances etherally... Namaari is a different story. I'll touch on that headcannon in a different post.

PS: Namaari definitely was watching her with dreamy eyes and the softest smile imaginable in that scene... slowly falling deeper.

I made this collage before Raya and the Last Dragon came out, as I had already made two other How to Train Your Dragon/RatLD collages to help start up two crossover ships, Hiccaya and Toothsisu.

I had a feeling that Raya and Namaari would have had a similar history as Hiccup and Dagur. Due to the two Vikings knowing each other as kids, before they became enemies turn friends, and one of the RatLD trailers had shown a brief clip of the two Princesses' child selves fighting one another.

Hiccup and Raya, as well as their two films, also have a few other things in common. Two of them being human/dragon friendships and the main protagonists being children of their people's chiefs.

Mirabel Madrigal: I can’t wait to see again!

*At 7:30 in the evening, Raya packing her clothes and phone charger suitcase and gets ready for trip the Madrigals*

*Namaari packing her clothes in suitcase*

Raya: Hey, Namaari!

Namaari: Hey, dep la.

Raya: Where are you going today?

Namaari: We’re going to the Casa Madrigal.

Raya: Awesome.

Namaari: 😎

*Raya’s phone rings*

Raya, picking up: Hello? *gasps* How are you?

Mirabel Madrigal in a normal voice again: I’m doing good, and you?

Raya: Awesome. What’s your name?

Mirabel Madrigal introducing herself: Hello, my name is Mirabel Madrigal, what’s your name?

Raya introducing herself: Raya. I’m Raya.

Mirabel Madrigal: Nice to meet you, Raya!

Raya: Nice to meet you too!

Mirabel Madrigal: Are you Kumandra residence?

Raya: Yes, I’m from Heart of Kumandra.

Namaari: And I’m from Fang.

Mirabel Madrigal: Oh, I will.

Raya hangs up her phone: I gotta go. Be good. I’m on the phone, Mirabel. Bye!

Raya: Ba, I was just packing my things. And you were right. I hope I'll get ready to visit the Madrigals

Chief Benja: Good. And please do be careful what you wish for.

Raya: I will, ba.

Chief Benja: Take care. I hope you'll have so much fun at the Casa Madrigal. Here's your debit card, your passports and your wallet. When you're eventually hungry on the plane, tell the stewardess that you can pick a dessert. Don’t get lost!

Raya: I got it, Well, I'll be off to the airport. Bye, ba. I'll be gone when I return.

Chief Benja: That's what I'm talking about. That's my dewdrop.

Raya: See you next week, Saturday morning, ba.

Chief Benja: Next week, Saturday morning it is. Have fun at the Madrigals! Don’t be late to airport! *circle hand gestures*

Human Sisu carrying her suitcase: Hey guys! Where are we going today?

Raya: We’re going to the Colombia.

Human Sisu gasped: At Colombia? All right!

Namaari: Raya, don’t be late to the airport, please call the taxi.

Raya calling her taxi: Taxi!

Taxi driver: Good evening, where to, madam?

Raya: To airport.

Taxi driver: Yes, it’s not a problem. How many people?

Raya: We have a 10 people.

Taxi driver: Here you go, madam.

Raya: Thank you.

* The taxi driver drives to the airport. At the airport, the taxi parks at the white zone.*

Taxi driver: Here we are. That'll be $30.75.

Raya: Do you accept debit cards?

Taxi driver: Yes. we accept debit card.

Raya gives her debit card to the taxi driver: Here you go.

Taxi driver the machine accepts Raya’s debit card as he returns it to Raya: Thank you, madam. Have a nice flight.

Raya: Me too!

*Raya opens the taxi cab door as Sisu, Tong, and the others, The baggage scanner scans Raya's luggage and accepts.*

Airport security guard: Have a nice flight.

Raya: Thank you, sir.

Airport Valet: Allow me to put your luggage in the plane.

Raya: Thank you. Let’s go to Colombia. Come on!

*Raya and her gang walks to the gate*

*Raya meanwhile, waiting to the gate*

Airport Hostess: Hello, May I have your passport and boarding pass, please?

Raya: Here you go.

Airport hostess: The plane will leave at precisely 9:45.

Raya: Thank you.

Airport hostess: You’re welcome, have a nice flight.

All: Me too!

*Raya, Sisu, and Namaari enter the gate and the plane as they sit in the middle seat.*

Raya relieved: We made it just in time.

Human Sisu: Yeah.

Namaari: I told you we'd make it to the plane. And don't worry about Tuk Tuk. He'll be safe in the luggage cargo. Here we go.

Pilot: (over PA) Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking, and welcome aboard to Avianca. We're now beginning our flight to El Dorado International Airport. The lights have been dimmed for take-off.

Human Sisu: I've never been on a plane before.

Namaari: Neither have I and Raya. Did you bring the photo of me, Raya and Sisu?

Raya: Yes. It's in my pocket.

Namaari: Excellent. Hey, stewardess.

Stewardess: (approaches Raya, Sisu and Namaari) Yes?

Namaari: I couldn't help but notice that Raya would like a dessert.

Stewardess: Sure. Would you like some chocolate pie or churros?

Raya: I'd like three churros to share.

Stewardess: Right away. The churros will be ready to serve in just a minute.

The stewardess gives the three churros to Raya, Sisu and Namaari.

Raya: Thank you.

Stewardess: You’re welcome.

*The stewardess leaves as they have churros.*

Namaari: Mm. I must say, I actually used to love churros before Sisu had been poisoned.

Human Sisu: I know. At least we're safe from harm. And I also say, My girl Raya, they even taste good when you dip them in chocolate sauce.

Raya: Wow. Can't wait to see. *dips her churro in chocolate sauce and takes a bite out of it* Mm. Sweet and sugary.

*The next morning at sunrise, Raya, Sisu, and Namaari fall asleep as the bell dings where the plane flies to El Dorado International Airport. They wake up, yawn and stretch their arms.*

Raya arriving at Colombia: Wow.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We're beginning our descent to El Dorado International Airport. Thank you for flying with us today on Avianca. We hope you enjoy your flight.

Raya: Looks like we've arrived.

* The plane lands on the landing pad at El Dorado International Airport. At the El Dorado International Airport parking zone, Raya, Sisu and Namaari have arrived and his luggage appears from the door in the right. Hector whistles and the taxi cab stops. The airport valet puts Raya’s luggage in the trunk as Raya holds onto luggage she opens the cab door and hops onto the backseat along with Sisu and Namaari*

Taxi driver: Morning, where are you go?

Raya: I'd like to travel to Casa Madrigal.

Taxi driver: Sure. Great morning for a ride.

* The taxi driver drives to Casa Madrigal. At Casa Madrigal, Raya and her gang have arrived as the taxi parks here.*

Taxi driver: Here we are. That's $50.50.

Raya: Here's my debit card. * gives it to the taxi driver*

Taxi driver: Good move. *inserts Raya’s debit card into the machine and approves it* Have a nice morning. *gives Raya’s debit card back to Raya*

Raya: Thank you.

Taxi driver: You’re welcome.

*Raya and her gang hop out of the cab. Raya opens the trunk and takes out his luggage. Sisu holds onto the luggage clothes inside. They walk across the bridge to the front door and stop. Sisu and Tuk Tuk comes out. Raya opens the sword case and picks up sword.*

*Raya and her gang walking around the house*

Raya: Sisu, look. They're all happy to see us.

*doorbell rang*

*Mirabel and her family look at Raya*

*door opens*

Raya now on her doorstep: Hello, Mirabel!

Mirabel Madrigal: Hello, Raya! my name is Mirabel Madrigal. Welcome to the Casita! Raya, this is my mom and my dad, Julieta and Agustín.

Julieta and Agustín Madrigal: Hi, Raya!

Raya: Hi!

Mirabel Madrigal: Sisu, this is my sister, Isabela and Luisa.

Isabela and Luisa Madrigal: Hi, Sisu!

Human Sisu: Hi, it’s very nice to meet you at your house.

Mirabel Madrigal: Captain Boun, this is my cousins, Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio.

All: Hi!

Boun: Hi, my name is Boun.

Mirabel Madrigal: Tong, this is my uncle, Félix and Bruno.

*Tuk Tuk looks at Mirabel*

Human Sisu: Wow. What a surprise. I'm Raya from Heart of Kumandra. And this is my pet, Tuk Tuk. and my Namaari.

Agustín Madrigal: Sisu, Welcome. We've heard so much about you, your wife and your daughter.

Human Sisu: Of course you have. And my girl Raya seems very excited to see you all.

Agustín Madrigal: Raya, can you show me my sword?

Raya: *swoosh!*

Mirabel Madrigal: Wow!

Julieta Madrigal: Wow, it looks like a sword whip.

Raya: Wow, thanks. *to Antonio* Hello there. You must be Antonio.

*Parce approaches Raya and Tuk Tuk as he sniffs, purrs and rubs his head on them.*

Raya: Aww, your jaguar really likes me. What's his name?

Antonio Madrigal: I named him Parce.

Raya: Really? That's adorable. *to Camilo* Hi. I couldn't notice, but you're Camilo, right?

Camilo Madrigal: Yep. You must be Raya. *Raya nods her head* And I can shapeshift. Watch this. *shapeshifts into Félix* See?

Raya: Whoa. You're just like Mystique from X-Men.

Camilo Madrigal: *shapeshifts into himself* Precisely. And you're welcome to the feast.

Raya: Aw, shucks. *in amazement, sees Isabela* Oh, wow. Hello. I never noticed, but you have such a nice dress.

Isabela Madrigal: Thanks. My dress looks colorful by the way. You're Raya.

Raya: Yes. And you have abilities to conjure and grow flowers and plants.

Isabela Madrigal: Yes, I have. Check this out. *conjures and grows flowers and plants*

Raya: Awesome. *to Luisa, purrs* Hola, sweet Luisa.
