Horror movie recs! I'm not sure what you've already seen, but I highly recommend: The Ritual, His House, El Orfanato, Sinister, What Josiah Saw (this one was pretty bleak), The Descent, Lights Out, Daniel Isn't Real, The Void (characters are middling but the practical effects are *chef's kiss*), REC (the original), Dark Skies (more sci-fi than horror and it's PG-13, but it stayed with me for weeks), and Audition.

thank you both @marmolita and @crosbyism for tagging! well, i’m happy to have finally worked on some problem scenes on the sidnate longfic last night for the first time in two years, so, here is a little more than a sentence:

On his last skate there, two days after the lock out officially ended, Nathan MacKinnon showed up.

“It’s just Nate, man, c’mon,” Nate mumbled when Sid tapped the side of his foot with his stick to say hi.

They hadn’t really talked since earlier that summer, but Sid had kept up with the Mooseheads more than usual out of professional curiosity, and occasionally would send him a text after a good game. Nate would always text back some version of Thank You, usually after Sid went to bed. But Canada had just lost big time at World Juniors with Nate stuck in the lower lines, and when Sid sent a consolation text, Nate hadn’t responded at all.

okay so i just invented a new game, you take your 3 most recently liked songs on Spotify (or the first 3 that pop up on shuffle, whichever you want) and you have to 1) choose a line from each song to be a fic title and 2) tell me the genre of fic it would be and any other fic description you feel inspired to include.

I'll go first.

HISS by Megan Thee Stallion

Fic title: Bodies on Bodies on Bodies on Bodies

Genre: this is a horror/pwp fic, somehow, like there's an orgy going on but also angsty sickening flashbacks to scenes of gore and death

2. Uproar by Lil' Wayne & Swizz Beatz

Fic title: Then the Sun Died (The Night is Young Though)

Genre: Okay this one is definitely a The Terror fic set in Arctic winter when the sun never rises. A collection of perspective shifts, slice-of-life-style, following various crew members as they go about their business over the period of a single night

3. Lovin' on Me by Jack Harlow

Fic title: If You Came With a Man, Let Go of His Hand

Genre: Jealousy and misunderstanding, attending a formal event and one of them comes with an unexpected date. There is absolutely a scene where a character says "May I cut in?" and replaces the other character's date in a dance with them.

Looks like the last thing I've worked on is my Frankenstein sorta-sequel, where Victor and the Creature survived the Arctic and are living together and loathing (and pining). I know it's supposed to be a sentence only, but I can't stop myself as I'm writing this in a vacuum and not getting that dopamine of ao3 comments is killing me:

Dinner is served at a long polished table of dark wood. He had hoped to be at the opposing end, the distance an interruption allowing him to breathe, but the fiend had not been so kind. Where the Creature sat at the head of the table, a place was laid at his right side. Candlelight scattered across porcelain plates and fine stemware, the thinnest shade of glass, as if the wine could be spirited directly to the tongue. The scent is heavy in the air. His nostrils twitch. Once, twice. Three times. The beast’s mouth curls up at the edges, amused. He rises from his place, pulling out the chair beside him. A fat roast sits squat upon a platter, glistening with oil, trussed and browned. The Creature carves, placing the pork before him. 

“You are hungry. Eat.”

The meat gleams bright and wet and pink. Beckoning. Gravy in a ceramic boat, greens tossed with dijon and olive oil, bread fresh from the oven. 

“I’m not.”

“You lie so poorly,” the Creature sighs. “You may eat of your own volition, or I may feed it to you. That is your choice, though you will not like the latter.”

“You can’t force me.”

“I can,” he says mildly, unconcerned.

“So this is it - you’re to fatten me up for the slaughter?” Imagine: the beast’s sharp incisors digging into his thigh, just as his teeth rend the grain of the pig’s muscle. 

“If I wished to slaughter you, I would have done so.” He spoons tender carrots onto Victor’s plate, glazed with honey. Victor’s appetite howls. He touches nothing but the wine, red and velvet; it reminds him of the carpet in his room. The curtains. The bed. 

“Why? Why do you not kill me? You have been my mortal adversary, what happiness could you possibly find in continuing this - “

“On the ice,” the Creature interrupts, halting him. His gaze heavy. “You pulled me from death, wrapping me in your own body for warmth. I would ask you the same, Victor. You had your wish and were free of me - why did you call me back?”

Victor’s cheeks flush as red as the wine. None of Galvani's experiments had talked back to him thus. “You are nothing more than a sentient frog’s leg!”

“Then might I suggest to my maker more sympathy for amphibians," the Creature drawls, running his fingers through a candle's fire.

80! a nice round number. i actually think i have even more that i eventually anon'ed

3. What fandoms do you write for?

primarily i've written for danmei fandoms the last few years (mdzs/cql, svsss, 2ha) but i kind of write whatever strikes my fancy! in the last year it's been xena, tristamp, bad buddy...just kinda whatever...i used to write for supernatural and merlin

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

a turn of the earth (supernatural, deancas)

i'm the one for your fire (mdzs, wangxian)

come home to my heart (mdzs, wangxian)

the heartlines on our hands (mdzs, wangxian)

a light hidden and singing (mdzs, wangxian)

5. Do you respond to comments?

man i wish i could but i fell behind in 2015 and then never caught back up ;___; i definitely read & appreciate every single one!!!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

honestly probably something from the early supernatural days. i was obsessed with writing angst as a teenager

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

all of my wangxian fics end happy!! i don't think any one is happier than the other because it usually ends up with them either in love or married :-)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

every so often! luckily the positivity tends to outweigh

9. Do you write smut?

yes! although this was something i had to work on getting more comfortable with throughout my 20s

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you have written?

the only thing closest to a crossover i've done was two alternate wangxian timelines in "a tide in two seas," but otherwise nope!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

a few times! if not verbatim plagiarism, then definitely have had entire original concepts/plots lifted & reused that are very identifiable lol

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes!! most commonly into spanish and russian, but have also had some translated into mandarin and farsi which is super cool!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

not formally!

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

i have love for a lot of pairings but wangxian definitely ate my brain the most and for longest.....and there they remain

15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

hmmmm....i was about 20k into a giant merthur fix-it time travel fic in like 2018 and gave up on it and i'll never finish it but wish i had!

16. What are your writing strengths?

i've been told i have a nice turn of phrase!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

describing setting.......action sequences.......those are the two i most actively have to work at to make them sound normal and integrated with the rest of the prose lol. i think i can also fall into the trap of gratuitous overdescription pretty easily

18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

i think it depends on the context but can be really effective if it's done correctly and respectfully! (if you're a non-native speaker, that is)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

honestly it was warrior cats. followed by twilight fanfiction i submitted to a local newspaper

20. Favorite fic you have written?

i tend to be more critical of past fics than not, but there are quite a few i'm fond of because i admittedly write to my own tastes but i'm especially fond of "make me whole, make me new," which is wlw wangxian!

Favorite Color: Fuchsia!!

Currently consuming:blond roast coffee that was roasted and sold by a small vendor; who also happens to be a fandom friend! Also-left over pancakes from brunch on Sat.

First ship: Millennials it’s high time we acknowledge that Darkwing Duck and LaunchPad were husbands.

this was a silly little story i wrote for @lazulisong's birthday one year, and it is wild how much it blew up. extra shout-out goes to the guy who used to come into the beer store i used to work at who we all called "My Girlfriend," because every time he talked, he would talk about His Girlfriend (until they eloped in vegas and then he became My Wife)

2. second most kudos: Family Dinner [the old guard. 2.5k. T+]

both this and 5 Things were probably written in under an hour, which has taught me nothing valuable about writing the meatier, longer stuff.

3. third most comments: also Family Dinner!

4. fourth most bookmarks: the warmest part of winter [yuri! on ice. 8k words. M]

this fic might be a little too saccharine for me to re-read, but i'm immensely fond of it, because my wife did all the (VERY tender) art for it. it was a fun project for us to work on while we were long distance.

5. fifth most words: we should be stars and perfect tens [rick and morty. 10k. M]

an incredibly cathartic fic for me to write, and the start of writing several fics for RnM that allowed me to heal from childhood trauma. i'm still also incredibly fond of this one.

apparently all i write these days are very silly things, and this is probably the silliest. sidney crosby wants to be bullied so bad!!!
