well first of all you bring up the very good point that there are actually multiple Qs at play and not just one, despite the fandom's (and my) attempts to simplify things. I personally am open to the possibility that Harry and Louis are no longer together- we don't have enough info to say for sure either way about that, and I am constantly recalibrating and considering and I'm going to be totally honest, getting flat out ANNOYED at how often I find myself being like oh damn they ARE still (or again) together ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Because it seems so improbable and illogical! You think I don't KNOW I sound fucking crazy?! Absolutely infuriating, and yet there are just all these little Things all the time. Plus ofc the fact that they both constantly wink wink larrie stuff to the fandom which could just be playing to the crowd... except then they both continually take it that little extra way that makes me go oh but... you really didn't NEED to go THERE that seems VERY pointed?? Like could a celeb relationship be both used in typical ways for publicity and be or become real on some level (looking at you Liam, heyyy), sure, but for this question the fact that I have never seen Harry show the slightest sign of attraction to a woman in his whole life and he so clearly embraces and identifies so strongly with gay male culture in every possible way and never shuts up about how much he loves cock does play into my thinking; I simply do not think he is attracted to women, no, and I have yet to see him do anything that doesn't seem consistent with things a closeted pop star might chose to do. "Okay." Harry says, stepping into their living room and plopping down on the couch next to Niall. His head is feeling a little better after he took an ibuprofen before taking his shower. "Let's have this chat, I do believe a certain Mr. Nicholas Sparks is waiting for me in my room." He adds, wiggling his eyebrows and causing his friends to giggle.

"You and your stupid books." Niall pipes up, rolling his eyes and slightly shaking his head.

"Shush." Harry silences the Irishman. "How dare you speak about the love of my life like that?" He adds, hand over his heart as he feigns hurt.

"Really." Niall replies, raising an eyebrow. "How does Louis feel knowing you love a book more than him?"

"We don't love each other." Harry is quick to reply, and looks between his two friends, only to be met with some curious stares. "I mean, it's a bit soon for that, don't you think?"

"You've been dating for what? Six months now?" Niall chimes up from right next to him. "I think that's long enough to know if-"

"I've only officially met him two weeks ago." Harry cuts him off. "Besides, we're not here to talk about that. Right Em?" He asks, looking over to where Em is laying stretched out on the couch across from them.

"Right." Em says and sits up straight. "What the fuck was last night?" They ask immediately, eyes moving between the two men staring at them.

"I'm sorry." Harry replies. His face resembling that of a cute puppy.

"No, no." Em says, eyebrows slightly raised. "No puppy faces. What was that? I've never been more embarrassed about something in my life!" They exclaim.

"I'm sor-" Harry tries again, but gets cut off.

"No! It's not you!" Em exclaims, and points at Niall. "You. What were you thinking when you made yourself comfortable on Charles' lap?"

"I wasn't thi-"

"Yeah. You weren't thinking. That's right! Why would you do that to me?"

"I'm so-" Niall starts. His eyes wide when Em cuts him off again.  He's unable to think back to a time when he's ever seen his friend this angry. It's never happened before, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little scared right now.

"I finally meet someone like me. That's happy with just cuddling, because like me, they're not looking for anything more." Em says. "And I finally convinced him to let me introduce him to my best friends and you decide to just embarrass me like that? Why would you do that?" Em says, looking at Niall and close to tears.

It's quiet for a few moments before Niall finally speaks up. "I really am sorry Em." He says, looking down at his hands in his lap. "Shawn and I have been seeing each other for a few months and stuff happened that caused me to jump to conclusions, and I feel so incredibly ashamed for hating you and you didn't even know why."

"You hated me?"

"Well, yes. I thought you were sleeping with my man." Niall replies like it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"Sleeping with your ma-" Em exclaims exasperatedly, cutting herself off. "What part of me being a raging asexual do you not understand?"

"I-" Niall shakes his head. "I wasn't thinking about that. I'm sorry." He says before finally looking up. "Please forgive me?" He asks, jutting out his bottom lip.

"Of course I forgive you." Em replies. "You're one of my best friends Ni. You're an idiot, but I still love you." They say, opening their arms for a hug and giggling when Niall gets up and tackles them into the couch with a bone crushing hug.

"I'm sorry." He says again when he gets up, holding out a hand to help his friend back up as well.

"It's fine. We're fine." Em assures. "Although." They say, pointer finger in the air. "You're gonna chave to rename your dildo."

"Wha-"

"Yeah. I don't feel comfortable with you calling it Charles anymore."

"It's always been Charles." Niall protests .

"It can't be anymore Ni."

"What do you want me to call it then?"

"Anything but my boyfriend's name." Em replies. "Call it Shawn junior."

"No!" Niall exclaims. "I'm not going to insult the real Shawn junior like that. The real one is much bigger." He adds, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.

"Oh my God, I did not meet to know that."

"I-"

"Just call it Ben or Sam or..." Em pauses for a second. "Just anything but Charles, please." They almost beg.

Before I met the boys I was litterly a hardcore Directioner. I would be in the front row of as many One Direction concerts as I possibly could, I'd be singing along to every single word that came out of the boy's mouths... And even the ones that didn't. But now, I get to be front row and singing every word, but I know that after the show I get to go home with one of those boys. And even though I'm dating one of them, I still feel like that fan girl that I once was. I mean you know what they say, Once a fan girl always a fan girl. "Hey love." Louis said as he walked into our shared room. "Hey!" I said before he planted a kiss on my lips. "You look stunning as always." He said making me blush. "And you look hot as always." "Who me?" He said joking. "No the guy behind you!" I said sarcasticly. He laughed a bit and I asked, "So you excited for the show today?" "Yup first show of the tour! The best part, is that you will be there front row." I looked away not wanting to tell him the truth. "Or, are you not gonna be there?" He said sounding kind of hurt. "My mom asked me to go have lunch with her and spend the day with her." "Oh." "Listen I'll try and make it back in time." "It's fine y/n. Spend time with your mom." He said with a smile even though you knew it was fake. "I'm really sorry babe." "It's fine." My heart sank knowing he was upset. "Well, I should probably get heading out." I said. "Yeah me too." "Okay, well I love you." "Love you too." I kissed him and then grabbed my purse.

*while driving*

I was driving and I was almost to my mom's house when I got a text

Mom: Hey y/n, sorry I forgot about our plans. I have some work business that I have to get to. Can we plan on rescheduling?

You: That's alright, we can make new plans soon.

I immediately turned the car around. I knew I only had like a hour and a half till the show started. So I went straight to the show. I got there about 3 minutes before the show started. Right before I pulled in I got a call from Harry. "Hey, I thought you were gonna be here." "I am. Just don't tell Louis. Can you get Paul to come outside so I can get in." "Yeah, but why can't I tell Louis." "You'll see." "Okay, Paul is headed outside." "Okay, see you on stage!" "Bye." "Bye." I got out of the car as fast as I could and met Paul at the back door. He helped me get to the front right where Louis would be standing. Soon the beginning to Midnight Memories started. They went through the whole song without Louis noticing me. He seemed upset and it hurt knowing he was. Then Little Things started to play. It was yours and Louis song (pretend Louis helped write it). I sang every word, but when it went to Louis part I stop singing and just listened. While he was singing he looked out in the crowd. He found you. He soon had a huge smile on his face and was singing while looking at me.

*after the show*

I was about to try to find a way out so I could be backstage before the boys were. But I was struggling. After their second to last song I saw Louis whisper to one of the security guards. "Do you need help getting out?" The security guard asked me. I nodded in response and he helped lift me over the metal gate. Girls were screaming at the fact that this was happening, because no one knew Louis and I were together. I was about to walk to backstage when I heard Niall say, "Louis, looks like we have a run away fan." I looked back and Niall was pointing to me. (Famous nouis line...) "In the words of the hit song by Carly Rae Jepson..." "Where'd you think your going baby!?!" They both said at the same time. I laughed a bit then Louis said, "Come on, don't be shy. Come 'ere." Louis said waving me over. I was confused, because we both agreed to keep our relationship a secret for a bit longer. I walked closer and Louis said, "Why don't you come on stage love?" I smiled then the security guard helped lift me up on the stage. Louis put out his hands to help me up. As I got on stage Louis hugged me tightly then whispered in my ear, "Watch this." I was confused but then he picked up the microphone and said, "For any of you who don't know who this is, which is probably most of you. This is my amazing wonderfully beautiful girlfriend y/n. I love her, and I thought what would be a better time to tell everyone about us other than now. I realized there wasn't. So that's why I wanted her to be at this show so badly." Everyone cheered and awed. After about 20 seconds my phone started blowing up from messages with my 1D group chat which started out as all girls who love one direction and is now just a bunch of my amazing friends. Soon I got off stage and messaged back on the group chat.

Sarah: y/n I know you said you had a boyfriend but you never said your boyfriend if Louis Fucking Tomlinson!

Okay, here we go again. There’s so much to unpack

First of all, I want to clarify, because this has happened before, that I’m not comfortable with you implying I’m the “Not Like Other Girls” of antis. Don’t compare me. I like those blogs, so..

Second of all and in the same vein, I don’t think I’ve seen any antis that are not willing to accept Harry’s sexuality. None of them are out there calling him straight, if that’s what you’re implying (at least none that I’ve seen)

Third of all, I think you don’t realize how hard it is to maintain a line with a blog like this one, where people come discourse about Larries (especially when you yourself are bisexual). I was ecstatic when Harry expressed those parts of his sexuality because I’ve been a fan of his since my early teens and it’s just really cool to see yourself somewhat represented in someone you’ve loved so dearly for so long. But I understand that I have a responsibility to not project my own feelings and desires onto him, and especially not doing it in a public forum where it has the potential of snowballing

Also, Larries abstractly accept Harry’s attraction towards men (I say abstractly because they turn vicious at the idea of him with any man that isn’t Louis, and any potential boyfriend Harry could get in the future would definitely get attacked). So there isn’t really much of a point in mentioning it in most of the posts I make. I’ve shoehorned it in in several that didn’t really call for it and realized after posting, and that’s most likely because of my own projection. If that’s what you feel makes me “Not Like Other Antis” then that’s not really a positive trait of mine, so I wouldn’t really praise it

It’s much comfortable and easy territory to talk about Harry’s attraction to women because it’s been piling on for years. No matter how many times Larries try to claim all of it is a stunt, reality says differently. Harry has talked about girlfriends in interviews and on stage, he has expressed attraction towards women, often bringing it up himself, has written songs about women. And the point is that Larries refuse to accept it, attack all the women linked to him, attack his team for “forcing him” to talk about it, even go on to say that he didn’t really write a majority of his album, so it becomes important to say that’s not the case in blogs like ours

When it comes to attraction to men, it’s only recently that Harry’s been more concrete (if you can call it that) about the subject, and there really isn’t much of a solid ground for us to feel like we can discuss it as openly as we do with his attraction towards women. Not without verging on projecting (and sometimes tinhatting) territory. I’m not here to discount Harry’s expressions of his sexuality, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like I have to be a little more vague about it, because Harry has been a little more vague about it. I just want to follow his lead because ultimately, it’s really none of my business. Sure, he made jokes before, and as non-straight person myself they pinged to me. I’m not gonna pretend they didn’t. But at the time, I really didn’t feel comfortable doing more than acknowledging he’d made them because it just wasn’t enough to go on. Straight men joke about that too, sadly (and I say sadly because I don’t like it when straight people joke about not being straight). And it could’ve also been jokes that weren’t even meant to be taken that way. Obviously now in hindsight they ping even more loudly to me, but I still don’t think they’re “proof” of anything, just something that gets me “okay... so this happened.” They could totally be the typical “testing the waters jokes” that most non-straight people do when they meet new people, they could even be the dumb jokes you just can’t help yourself making that could out you if you hit the wrong tone but narrowly avoid it because you’re being funny. But they could also just be jokes with no ulterior meaning

The bottom line is that, personally, when Harry said he didn’t label his sexuality, he knew how many of his fans thought he wasn’t straight. He knew of all the rumors. And when he wrote Medicine and chose to sing it on tour after saying he didn’t label his sexuality and all those years old rumors, he knew what he was doing. I don’t think for a second he’s stupid enough not to realize what those two things would cause, and I don’t think for a second he’s malicious enough to queerbait. So to me, it’s another thing about himself, he has green eyes and dimples, trips over his own feet, has annoyingly good reflexes, likes tattoos, is attracted to men in some capacity, is attracted to women, likes rock music, and has a half silly/half dry sense of humor. I don’t feel comfortable making more definite statements than that or putting a label on him when he’s explicitly rejected them before, and I definitely don’t have headcanons about him with men

If in the future he decides to share more, then I’ll gladly accept it and discuss it, but I will go as far as he wants to go and nothing more than that. I don’t think that’s “pushing it aside” I think it’s just being respectful

With your last two points I DO agree but I don’t think other antis shy away from that, and I actually don’t think I’ve talked about either of those things, at least not as main subjects of anything

The biphobia among Larries is rampant and disgusting. Anything that isn’t 100% gay is labeled as “het”. Larries have called him saying “I mess around with THEM” instead of “HIM” in Medicine “het” which is ABSURD because “them” includes “the BOYS and the GIRLS.” But to Larries he’s a gold star gay and “them”, by including women, would “legitimize his past relationships” and that’s “het”. That and Harry making statements on his sexuality when Louis is “still forced in an iron closet” made their heads explode. This is why I feel it’s important to highlight that Harry isn’t in the closet. He hasn’t come out, but I actually have a feeling that he would never do that. I think he’s just living his life and expressing himself for who he is and it just so happens to include that part of himself, like it happens to include his quirky sense of fashion or other aspects of his personality. He’s not actively trying to hide it, his girlfriends aren’t beards, his song lyrics aren’t stunts or coded metaphors for the burden of his fame. He just doesn’t fit the definition of a closet. It’s just that society tells you that there’s an actual drawn line between those two states, when for a lot of people that’s not the case. And I think Harry is also very idealistic and would love for that to be everyone’s reality. Like when he said he doesn’t feel equality should be political. No, my child, it shouldn’t but it is. And no, people shouldn’t have to come out and make statements on their sexuality, but society is still very into boxing people anyway. Sorry, I lost my train of thought

Anyway, Larries can’t just have Harry and Louis in this idyllic romantic relationship that never broke up in nine years. They also have to have them both being 100% gay and allergic to women. I think it’s part of their insecurity in their own conspiracy, but also, a lot of internalized misogyny and a fuckton of biphobia. If they acknowledged Harry’s attraction towards women, then he’d be a flight risk because the bi stereotype is cheating (not calling Harry bi, btw, it’s a stereotype applied to everyone that’s attracted to more than one gender, but it’s simplified as a bi stereotype). It’s easier for them to rationalize that all of Harry’s expressions of attraction towards women (and there’s been A TON) are just jokes or stunts or things he was forced to say and do. It soothes them and makes them believe in their ship with more ease

And the last point of how they pushed Harry to be open about something he wasn’t ready for so early. I mean, I don’t think Harry started being open about it before he was ready and I don’t think he lets himself be pushed by fan entitlement. He might be a “fluffy cupcake” but he’s very assertive when he needs to be. He draws a line and doesn’t let you cross it. So I think he expressed himself how he wanted and when he wanted. But Larries did TRY to push him. They made assumptions very early on, used a ton of stereotypes, analyzed things he probably didn’t even realize he was doing, and were all around disgusting. We don’t know how Harry’s journey with his own sexuality has been. I know people that didn’t even think they could be anything other than straight until they were well into their 20s. I know others that knew it as children. Once again, I don’t feel comfortable having headcanons or analyzing how Harry’s specific case was/is because it’s none of my business, but yeah, it’s totally possible that a lot of the shit Larries have said and analyzed has caused him harm. Having someone speculate on that sort of thing when you’re not fully conscious of it yet can fuck you up. Having people making definite statements about such private matters when you’re not ready to make them yourself can definitely fuck you up. Larries think all this speculating is them being fantastic allies and showing support, um, no? The opposite?

Do you know how you show support? By supporting the LGBT community and openly LGBT artists. By donating time and money to LGBT charities. By being welcoming and loving towards LGBT individuals. It’s definitely not by speculating on the sexuality of an artist you think might not be straight when they haven’t said anything themselves. That’s the shittiest thing you can do

There are many people I find super hot, for example Jameela Jamil, Tom Hardy, Kristen Bell, Gillian Anderson, Keanu Reeves. Liam, Zayn, Niall. They appear on my blog from time to time, and some of them I find super hot because of their personalities, in addition to their looks.

I don’t think I’ll meet any of them, nor will I “have a chance” with any of them. They’re celebrities! I know that. I don’t ship them with anyone, and especially not out of sexual frustration.

I do think it’s interesting that that would be your assumption, because fantasy is a big strategy for selling celebrities’ images. This was the reason that homoeroticism was pushed by 1DHQ. The boys played up being touchy with each other. They were told to do so... everyone except Louis and Harry.

Fans can project their own desires onto Harry, in the quiet of their imagination or in their own fanfiction or in group iMessage threads with fellow fans. That’s the magic of Harry.

And that’s the Harry that queer women get so obsessed with. That’s the Harry who has even inspired some women, in becoming infatuated with him, to recognize their own queerness.

Julia has sexual fantasies starring Harry Styles, yes. But she clarifies that if the real-life Harry Styles made a move on her, she’d probably reject the advances. She then goes on to detail, “basically I want to watch him get fucked, then also zip his skin around me in a suit.” So, suffice it to say, these feelings are sexual, sure; but none of the women I spoke to were lusting after the real Harry Styles. Just the fanfic-born idea of Harry.

I think the author’s interpretation that women who “ship” Larry indulge in sexual fantasy applies to assumptions about the entire fandom.

Clearly, Harry and Louis’ fandoms are composed of a majority of women, most of them in their late teens and twenties, a large percentage of which are Larries. It’s also logical to assume that some of the Larries are straight women.

This assumption that being attracted to them is the reason for shipping Larry is, in fact, a way to discredit the idea of Larry— by discrediting women.

Whether applied to LGBT or straight fans, the assumption that “shipping” them is a fantasy is another way of saying that Larry is a sexual fantasy. Shipping Larry is a delusion and a form of sexual frustration, nothing more.

This is the reason Dan Wattpad and other interviewers ask them about fanfiction. If the celebrities think fanfiction is “out there,” or “crazy,” then the “shipping” behavior is also “crazy,” because media equate them on the same level of fantasy. Then, Larry can be dismissed as conspiracy theory— from sexually frustrated women.

Anti blogs also routinely cite Larries’ “shipping” behavior as being naive. “Shipping is something every fandom does,” they say. “Experienced fans used to ship boyband members together all the time (because of fetishization, because the pairings were hot together, etc.). Larries just don’t recognize this or don’t want to admit it. Larries carry it too far.”

This assumption discredits observations of real behavior over eight years, and thousands of pieces of data that actually exist, by discrediting the observer, the Larries. Therefore, I would consider it a form of gaslighting. “You didn’t really see what you saw. You believe what you believe because of inherent frustrations within yourself.”

This answer is already too long, and I won’t discuss the ways in which blogs are attacked from different angles in order to discredit them and further divide the fandom. I’ll just say that the way blogs are constantly scrutinized for not being a real Larrie or real Harrie or real Louie (or SJW enough) is a way to dismantle the fandom, and it has been hugely successful. Dogma is used to intimidate bloggers into silence. Encouraging people to engage this way diminishes and silences the fandom, and allows the least tolerant voices to be the loudest.
