27 June 1997 - Payday!  Radio Raheem reference and train ticket to and from Milan via Zurich
Friday 27 June 1997
Hi everyone, Well the day I had been waiting for had finally come.  It was the end of June 1997, and it was payday at that.
I was very excited as I had my eye on a portable cassette CD-playing radio for at least a week, on sale at Saturn Hansa for just 149 D-Mark, a 50 D-Mark discount for that week only.  It was a no-name cassette recorder/duplicator with AM, FM and Longwave bands.  I had to work that day, so I had to concentrate on my work until about 4:30 PM.  At the end of the workday, I went to Neuperlach Zentrum to see my monthly Kontoauszug, or my bank statement to verify that a money transfer took place.  A deposit of 1,500 D-Mark was deposited.  I had to be sure that I had 400 D-Mark free for rent, as well as about 80 D-Mark to pay for the next month's Ausbildungstarif II bus/train fare, so I had to be very careful what I spent.
Saturday I had more time to go to the Saturn Hansa and pick out the portable radio.  The radio came in a box about two feet / 60 cm wide, 6 inches / 15 cm high and maybe 9 inches / 23 cm deep.  It weighed maybe 4 pounds / 1.8 kilos.  When I took it home, it did not have size "D" batteries (you might know the scene from "Do the right thing" when Radio Raheem asked for 20 of the "D" sized batteries, my radio only took six), but it had a "type C" plug which was ready to plug into a type C/type F Schuko round-pin outlet, similar to my table lamp that I bought a week prior.  I plugged it in, and it received the local FM stations, AM stations and even longwave as well.  The CD player worked fine and the tapes could be dubbed at twice the normal speed, just as advertised.  At some stage I had recorded Double's "Devil's Ball" on a longwave radio station.  You may remember Double from 1985/1986 with their "Captain of her heart" song.
I did not do much that weekend, except stay most of the time at home and record music.  Sometimes I listened to Radio Gong, sometimes the Munich frequency for the French-based NRJ network, sometimes Bayern 3, and even some Dutch, Danish, Czech, Croatian broadcasts.  Transferring from CD to tape worked fine but there was a bit of fade-in for the first two seconds or so.  And the ticking sound of skipping songs was also audible.  I had a cheap copy of Sabrina "Boys" and Deuce "Deuce on the loose!", both of which I bought at the Neuperlach Zentrum location of Hugendubel, which has since withdrawn the music CD section.
Either Monday or Tuesday, the 30th June or 1st July, I wanted to see about taking the train to Zurich and Milan and come back through Trentino Alto Adige and Tyrol.  I had my Eurail Pass, and the DB long distance agents told me that I would have to buy a separate ticket for the section between Lindau Hbf to St. Margrethen SG, and for Brenner to Kufstein.  This was because my Eurail Pass was not good for Austria, as I had not requested Austria/Hungary to be valid.
My next story will be an at-the-last-second journey from Munich to Zurich, Milan and back by Verona, Brenner and Innsbruck.  Will I remember where the actual youth hostel in ZH-Wollishofen is?  Hope you will join me then.

Near Mooresville NC
Mooresville, NC
Mooresville, NC, is one of the favorite cities for immigrants. There are many reasons behind this, and one of these is the cost of living. The cost of living is based on the US average of 100, and any amount below that means that Mooresville has a cheaper cost of living compared with the national average rate. The median home price ranges from $268 400, which is lower than most of the cities in the USA. The town is safer than other places, so you will know that there is a lesser crime rate. The city is very welcoming to everyone.

2 Hot Stocks to Watch That Report Earnings This Week!
What's going on everybody, do anything fun this weekend?  Mine has been good, other than the cubbies beating up on my Redbirds. Yesterday, we had a 5-1 lead going into the 4th when Michael Wacha served up a 90mph fastball on the inside corner that was sent high into the bleachers for a grand slam. Boooooo Cubs!! They have taken the first 2 games of the series. Sunday night baseball tonight - maybe we can get one back. Cant wait!
I'm not sure what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but here, it has been awesome - 75 and sunny.  On Friday however, it was a bit cool and cloudy. That day, I felt would be the perfect time to take the little man to the zoo - mainly to avoid the crowds. Well, apparently everyone had that same thinking, as it took a solid 20 minutes to simply find a parking spot. The place was stupid packed. Bus after bus lined with excited grade school kids jacked to see some monkeys and hippos.
The day was a bit stressful and I kept reminding myself to take a deep breath! It is anything but relaxing when crazed cotton candy and soda filled kids are let loose on a field trip. The highlight of the day was when I landed an sharp tip elbow squarely to the dome of a 7 year old girl. I look down, expecting the the worst. Yup, she was wounded as tears welled in here eyes. I say "sorry sorry sorry" as I take a glance over to her parents - both of whom returned nothing more than a death stare in my direction.
No, I didn't land this vicious elbow on purpose! What kinda person do you think I am? I was holding onto my boy  when the highly sugar infused girl (running 19 mph) completely blind sided the sharp end of my left arm. Anyway, we both survived the encounter and it was off to pet the goats.
The day was made much better by the fact that every time I checked my phone for market quotes, stocks kept ticking higher and higher. Wow, what a rally we had on Friday! In my opinion, this market is beyond frothy. I believe we are up some 22-23% on the year. I mean, wow, how much more can we tack on at this point. IDK? I will remain hedged in the VXX and possibly look to trim some long positions if this run continues.
Earnings season has seen its peak and will begin to slowly wind down. Once that takes place, the CNBC might run out of things to talk about. Perhaps conversations of inverted yield curves or some Turkish Lima will become the topic of the day - something to spook or rattle the markets a bit.  At this point, I kinda feel as though a selloff would be a healthy thing for stocks. If we continue to melt higher, a rude awakening could be in the cards as the year unfolds. Remember, markets typically take the stairs up and the elevator down!
Anyway, if the markets hold solid again this week or shoot higher, there is a couple plays that I hope will work out as winning trades. I'm watching ETSY and ROKU. I have a core holding in both stocks and have owned ETSY for years now. I will be holding onto each company into and after they report. Touching my core position is not part of the game-plan, as I like then as long term plays.
Etsy is up 125% over the last year and Roku is up 109%. Whoo, that's scary! Some profit taking and a selloff after they report could certainly take place. In fact, that is kinda what I expect. So, if you like either or both of these companies, any selling might present a nice opportunity to snatch up some shares at a discounted price.
Both report Wednesday after the bell. Wall Street loves these stocks at the moment. Well, Wall Street loves many stocks at the moment. But ETSY and ROKU are REALLY REALLY loved. I'm playing for run-up into earnings, in hopes that this FOMO trade will continue and cause investors to buy up the shares.
So, on Monday, if I can get in at a good price, I will add to my core positions. Once Wednesday rolls around, I will unload what I have added just before the market close. Basically, I'm looking for a quick swing trade in both stocks. I will only buy on Monday if they are flat or in the red. If either or both opens up 2-3% or more, I will feel as though I have missed the boat and likely won't touch or make a trade.
If I do get in, and the trade goes South, I will stick to the game-plan of selling just before the close on Wednesday - lick my wounds and book the loss. Hopefully, that won't be the case.
Remember, these plays are speculative in nature. I'm only making then because I feel as though I have a slight chance of being correct. I will be risking very little and keeping the trades low stress. High stress trading is not part of my overall strategy.
I'm not a financial advisor. Only invest money that you are willing to lose and speak to your personal financial advisor before trading.
Ohh, one more thing. I will look to buy Shake Shack this week as well. The stock traded up to $67 on Friday after the company reported earnings. A strong reversal took place throughout the day and it closed at $60. I have owned the stock in the past and love this company.  The burgers are amazing and the lines are always out the door. Being that Shak has a market cap of just over 2 billion, this could be a huge winner if held long-term. I have been waiting for a good entry point to get back in. This week, I intend to do exactly that.
Ok guys, that's all I got. Enjoy the week ahead! Good luck with your investments. Talk to ya soon. Go Cardinals!

Don’t buy Battlefront 2
Over the weekend, there was a bit of a controversy involving the upcoming release Star Wars Battlefront 2.
EA, the game’s publisher, set character unlocks using the game’s in-game currency exorbitantly high. The price was set at 40,000, which some outlets suggested could take up to 40 hours of playtime. I assume this is worst-case scenario stuff, so I’m going to be generous to EA and say it was probably something like 20 hours of playtime per hero. This was seen as an attempt to not so subtly prod the player into purchasing in-game currency in order to expedite the process.
Monday, EA backpedaled and decided to heavily discount the unlocks. They declared in a tweet that they were listening to fans! And some took this as some sort of victory. This is no victory. This is what EA wanted to happen. Here’s my theory.
Before the big character unlock kerfuffle, there was a bit of a fuss over in-game lootboxes and micro transactions. People were frustrated that apparently the game has pay-to-win features. You can pay real money to have a real advantage over folks in multiplayer. In a $60 AAA release, this is absurd. In a free-to-play mobile game this is expected. This sort of thing is also EA’s main way of making money post release, so having people outright furious about them out of the gate seems bad for business.
So in order to distract from the outrage over this, I think EA set character unlock fees absurdly high in order to manufacture a separate outrage. Yes, they take a short term hit - including having a reddit comment become the most downvoted in the website’s history - but they also stand to earn some long term good will.
For starters, if you cruise the tweet where EA says that they are slashing the cost of these standalone characters, you will see person after person defend the company whenever somebody says they still aren’t purchasing the game. “EA listened! Why are you still mad! I just wanna play a fun Star Wars game!” By backing down from their crazy demands, they seem like they care about customers. So now some people are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt regarding lootboxes. You see the casual “if you don’t like it, don’t play it!” or “you don’t have to buy them!” which are certainly not helpful.
You also have what inevitably comes when a large group of people swarm on one target: death threats. No matter what side of the political spectrum someone is on or what the target is, if enough people get mad about an issue there will always be a couple of angry folks who take things too far. So, when the most downvoted comment in reddit history bring the Internet’s focus onto EA’s monetary scheme, a few crazy people will come with it.
Straight up, death threats are awful, should be taken seriously and are made by some of society’s worst people. Do not make threats at developers. Do not send hateful messages laden with personal insults at developers. Having said that, a company can use these inevitable occurrences to gain sympathy. Waypoint had an article right away on the death threats sent to game developers over this issue. Then the article’s writer, Patrick Klepek, immediately referenced the threats again when EA announced prices were reduced. You would then see people in the comments for the article saying that this sends a message to those sending threats that they work.
The .0001% of humanity that would send these kind of threats aren’t learning anything. If EA doubled down, they’d still make threats. They just do it because it’s in their nature. But because threats were made and EA made sure people knew about them - which is their right because I sure would let people know if a threat was made on my life - there will be people out there who are like “Well shit, if this game doesn’t take off those assholes win! I better buy a lootbox!” It can get in some folks minds that all EA detractors are vile people who hate developers.
A tactic similar to this was used when Mass Effect 3 was receiving hatred over the ending DLC. EA was under fire, so a lot of the shit getting flung at them from a crazy group of people was being brought to the light. It takes the heat off of the company and instead places it elsewhere
It’s all part of advertising. Paint the cynics in a negative light, make it seem like you care about customers or some virtue, and rake in money. EA wants you to remember the shitbags. They want you to remember that they listened to “the most downvoted comment in reddit history”. They want you to forget about the lootbox thing.
Don’t forget. Don’t buy the game if you disagree with this current AAA trend of monetization. They can always find another way. Don’t feel compelled to line some CEO’s wallet. Sadly the game is going to make like 80 billion dollars because it’s STAR WARS, but you don’t have to contribute to that sum.
UPDATE: https://twitter.com/EAStarWars/status/931332890717143040 They turned off micro-transactions. I personally think this is because of Belgium looking into Battlefront 2 and lootboxes as a form of gambling. BIG BRAND Star Wars + gambling = controversy the Disney overlords probably don’t want.

Celebration of Life Month is the perfect opportunity for you to unwind from the holidays, take a few days to rest, and prepare yourself for the next journey around the sun.
History of Celebration of Life Month
Food for Health International is a company that focuses on producing and distributing whole food and preparation for emergencies. With its unique techniques and methods they work towards providing rich, healthful food at reduced prices. As part of their mission, they 19ve introduced the Celebration of Life Month to help remind everyone that taking care of our bodies is taking care of our souls, and helps us celebrate every day.
How to celebrate Celebration of Life Month
Celebrating this important month can be challenging, as we 19ve always learned to work work work, and to prepare ourselves for the next step in our growth in careers and life. Celebration of Life month reminds you that you need to take some time to revitalize yourself if you want to experience life to its fullest.
Start off by taking a few mental health days, just take the time to sit back and relax, and reassess the past year and what you 19re going to be doing moving forward with this year. Enjoy your favorite leisure activity, and do whatever it is that helps you recharge when things are just getting too crazy.
When you 19re sitting at work, be sure to do everything you can to remind yourself that you are not your job. By not identifying yourself with your work, you can enjoy the day free from the idea that your success there measures your worth.
