My Thoughts: Its a sad day in Mascara history when I tested It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara because it didn’t hold up to its name. It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara comes in a black vase shape tube with a basic cone shape brush. I hated the tube because it clumped up the tubes opening where I couldn’t close it properly. With the tube not being properly sealed it didn’t preserve and protect the formula.

It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara formula is thick and gooey. With that application was messy, I always ended up getting it on the inner lid or lower lash. I found using multiple coats is a nightmare. The first coat I use separates and lengths my lashes. With multiple coats it unseparated the lashes with every coat I added on. Adding multiple coats causes a ton of clumping on the lash, it takes forever just to get rid of it. Once application is done the formula takes so long to dry because of the wet formula. It eventually does dry but its too heavy to hold a curl and ends up weighing it down.

The best method to avoid the messy application is to only apply one coat. This method separates and lengths, basically enhances my lashes by a little. Clumping is no longer a problem however once the formula gets older (which it does in 2 weeks) it comes back and it starts to flake.

Would I purchase It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara hell no. Its one of the worst mascaras I have tried in the past year.

The natural hair gospel contains a very important rule: always treat your strands with a small correction: a lot of oil. I had this (figuratively, not literally) hit my head when I decided to hack big and start over. And though it seems simple in theory, it takes a little more thought to know exactly how to use oil on natural hair than most would assume.

For while it's incredibly easy to get out of the shower, squeeze a lump on the hand, lather, and finish the day, natural oils, including the ever-popular coconut, are not equivalent. Not the best news if you like me hear that your routine is outrageously lazy and sometimes completely neglected. The good news is that knowing which oils to use and which ones to mix best is not too complicated. For starters it is important to understand the basic but essential purpose of hair oil.

"Hair oils have a variety of benefits that help promote good hair and scalp health," says Kendria Strong, Director of Marketing for African Pride. "Some of the benefits are adding moisture and trapping moisture, preventing hair breakage, promoting growth and length, increasing shine, softness and handiness, soothing the scalp, replenishing hair and scalp with natural nutrients and the list goes on. "Contrary to popular belief, hair oil should feel good too. This means that your hair should not feel heavy or stressed when used properly. It should feel soft and be shiny instead.

While there is an ever-growing list of hair oils, there are only two main categories that Strong says will fall: seal or moisture oils.

How to create layers

How you choose to use these oils really depends on your personal preference. Most people resort to the popular L.O.C. method (liquid, oily, cream) or L.C.O. (liquid, cream, oily). "Both of these methods are designed to help your hair maintain and maintain maximum hydration, and as a result, your chosen hairstyle will last for days without drying out," says Strong. "In my opinion, the best method, especially for coarser natural textures, is to drink your products using the L.C.O. method to apply the oil last."

As for the amount of oil that you apply to your hair, Strong states that since each hair reacts differently to oil, it suggests starting with a small amount and increasing as needed. "Your hair will surely tell you when to stop," she says. It is also not necessary to use oils daily, especially if you use the L.C.O. or L.O.C. methods.

"Your hair should retain moisture for at least a few days, but you can grab an oil if you use it to separate or refresh your curls to add some extra shine." After all, your type of curl pattern determines how You use moisturizers and sealers. If your hair is fine or your curls are on the loose side, Strong recommends using oils more sparingly so you do not strain your strands.
