[Image ID: Weedfoot sits under the title of today's lore post: "Name Deep Dive: Weedfoot"]
MY GIRRRRRRLLLLLL! Ngl I love her more than Downstar. Now let's explore her name!
Prefix: "Weed"
So what sort of connotations does "Weed" apply to a kit? Like so many names, there are positive and negative connotations, but let's begin with what exactly the Clans think of weeds. The average warrior couldn't care less if there were more dandelions about. Clerics and caretakers, meanwhile, recognize that weeds can choke out other plants in their pervasiveness. These weeds can be quite useful, but can take over a patch of land if caretakers are not careful. Some of the plants the Clans see as weeds include dandelion, mint, bindweed, thistles, and clovers.
Naming your child Weedkit encourages speedy growth and a vibrant, strong life. Weeds are hard to kill and always come back. Weedkit can be a popular name when a couple has had trouble with kitting or when they tend to lose their kits before they reach apprenticeship. Weedkit is also popular in single litters, such as the one Weedkit came from.
Thanks to the communal culture of the Clans, "Weed" can also suggest a toxic presence in the Clan, one that could overwhelm them. These cats could put their own safety and security over that of the Clan. Autumnstar used this naming connotation to discuss Weedfoot when she was part of the Ashes in the Water.
Suffix: "-foot"
There are a few reasons a leader may give someone this suffix. Its traditional use marks a quick-footed and fast cat. This speed can be translated into being a great runner, a swift pouncer, or a whirling fighter whom no one can land a hit on. This speed can also be mental, however. If a cat is quick to figure things out, they may be well-suited to "-foot".
"-foot" can also be a grounding suffix. Being sure-footed is a good trait in the Clans. By naming someone "-foot", a leader is calling them out for a grounded and sturdy presence within the Clan. On rare occasions, the suffix calls out a uniquely patterned or injured paw. Parsley would have been a great pick for the name Parsleyfoot thanks to her one white paw.
Full Name: Weedfoot
Weedfoot's name better fits the grounding aspect of her suffix than anything else. However, the combination of her prefix and suffix creates a name that immediately inspires images of a swift and unstoppable rise to power. The growth of a weed combined with the suffix's quick connotations suggests that Weedfoot is destined to achieve whatever she sets her mind to, leaving a deep impact wherever she chooses to "grow". Perhaps this is why Autumnstar was so scared of her...

do you reckon a clan gen blog can garner interest with writing instead of art? is it worth trying?
Check out my beloved @ammonite-clan !!!! All their stuff is in the written word. Same with @rippleclan !!! @in-memoriam-tgwk also occasionally writes as supplementary lore.
Any writing based clangen blogs please sound off in the replies <3

The Other Clans
I haven't done a lot of my own lore for each of these, but I have I think like 5 other clans in this save? I have yet to figure out how to get into the code safely and I am too attached to risk hurting my save, so instead I just have my terrible memory.
But I know I tried to keep track as they were all introduced, their names are: Dewclan, Thymeclan, GanderClan, Rippleclan, and us, Wormclan. At least so far :3

Clangen warriors of Rippleclan, featuring one of my favourite bloodlines
Speedpaint
(Commission info in pinned post)
Character lore below:
Stagwish and Mossybee were one of my og favourite couples and had many kits together including Dampfire. Her first littler with Mossybee included Tallwhisker, Dunepaw and Dampfire. The former two unfortunately didn’t survive long. Her second litter was a sole kit named Toadwillow, who also died young. Stagwish was as bloodthirsty as she was beautiful, climbing her way through the ranks with her fantastic hunting skills, serving as deputy under Turtlestar, the leader who maimed Stagwish, causing her to lose a leg. Mossybee never took another official mate after Stagwish’s death though she did mother more kits. She also served as deputy under Flickerstar for a time before joining her old mate in starclan.
Dampfire was the only Stag x Mossy kit to have children of her own and the only kit to reach the age of elder. Dampfire was a fierce medicine cat and a great teacher to several apprentices. Dampfire had a bit of an on again off again relationship with Flightfoot but they loved each other deeply and had a large family together, including Acornflame and Longnight. While Dampfire was a medicine cat, she was also always willing to defend the territory and especially the clans kits from intruders, earning her many scars. Deputyship appears to run in the family as eldest Acornflame served during their life time, chosen for their ambition and strong connection to starclan. They also has plenty of scars to show, for a rat and a incident by the river. Longnight was on the younger side of Dampfire’s kits, she had a short life but was wise and shared that connection to starclan that their sibling had, she probably would have been made leader if she’d had the chance, her natural wisdom making up for lack of experience. Damp x Flight’s other kits were called: Tigerspeckle (the only one still alive in the currant era), Bleaknose, Springtail, Bristlekit, Fringeburr, Nectarfur, Egretspeckle and Flyspots. After Acornflame’s passing, Flightfoot too served as deputy for a time.
Acornflame’s mate isn’t known, but they parented Volebird, among others. Volebird is the currant deputy of Rippleclan serving under Flickerstar, who’s days are numbered in their old age. She is very smart but still has a playful spirit. She’s faced many hardships in her life, losing part of her ear to a twoleg trap and having been bitten by a snake. She also has taken many mates in her 103 moons, hoping for kits after the passing of her mate Bagderswipe and their two kits, Mintpaw and Fuzzyhare. Every mate after that died in tragic accidents, until Harerunner, whom she finally had a second litter with, Shrewfur. Shrewfur is the light of Volebird’s life. The young cat has a bit of a vengeful streak and is very persuasive but the scar she received protecting some young kits shows that she has a good heart inside.
In the present day, Shrewfur has taken Oakbird as her mate and I can only hope they life a long and happy life together, hopefully with some beautiful kits on the way

Hi, I'm Storms! This is a side blog dedicated to a comic about my current Clangen clan, Rippleclan. I'm still figuring out page layout, color, etc, so things may change drastically as time goes on. Especially since I'm relatovely new to doing art. Please feel free to send in questions! This is the first comic I've ever drawn, and I'm using it as a way to improve my art overall. A vast majority of the pose and anatomy references I've used are by Warren Photographic.
Lore: Fog was a ship's cat for as long as she could remember. Since the dawn broke on the morning of her kitting, the sea was all she'd known. Until, in her later years, a rogue wave ran her ship aground. The human crew was lost, as were the other cats, aside from one. Bristle, her good friend, had survived as well. The two took up residence in the ruins of their home. They began to have strange dreams, and were eventually drawn away from their ship, towards the tide pools and some shallow caves. There, they met other cats who had been drawn in by dreams of a star-furred youngster. Fog dreamt one night, that she should take up the mantle of leader, and she agreed. Thus, Fogstar and Rippleclan itself were born.
Fun facts: Leaders are called leader, and captain equally.
When a kit is made an apprentice, their very first patrol will almost always be with the leader.
Rippleclan is extremely welcoming to outsiders, and cats in other clans who wish to join them.
Pages will be tagged as #rippleclan adventures and #moon [number]
Pages that feature a non-Clangen cat design will be tagged as #cameo or #[name]cameo As they'll all be my ocs.
All cats that appear on a page will also be tagged for searchability.

[Image ID: Mousesong stands below the title: "Name Deep Dive: Mousesong".]
Since name deep dives are some of my favorite lore, I'm going to start going through the characters as I please, with a focus on those who just got their names. So let's talk about Mousesong, the molly with the pretty, yet unfitting name.
Prefix: "Mouse"
"Mouse" is a common prefix in the Clans, just as mice are one of the most fruitful prey in the land. Without mice, many cats would go hungry through the winter. Like other prey names, "Mouse" has connotations of life and longevity, but also of weakness. Those who believe names hold power over their owners would doubt anyone with a prey-name could become a leader.
"Mouse" specifically is the sneakiest of the prey prefixes. Mice are small and stay tucked away in tiny holes. Their small size makes them a go-to choice for runts and small kits. Rebecca wasn't thinking of any of these connotations when she named her child, however. She knew kit names ended with -kit, and liked the sound of Mouse. So that is how she named her daughter.
Suffix: "-song"
Unlike the canon Clans, who only have birdsong, RippleClan and its neighbors have actual songs, alongside the instruments to play them on. "-song" is a highly desired suffix for musical artisans or anyone with a love of music. It is a wonderful reflection of that talent.
When given to someone outside the realm of music, it often refers to a pleasing or soothing voice. Caretakers may enjoy the suffix to showcase their talents in kit-sitting. All in all, the suffix implies a beautiful voice and soul.
Full Name: Mousesong
The prefix for a “-song” name implies various types of sounds connected to that object. Pairing “-song” with an animal prefix creates the Clan word for the creature’s unique sound. Mousesong literally means “the sound of a mouse”. Mousesong was named after the soft chirps and squeaks of a mouse, implying a quiet heart.
Anyone who has met Mousesong knows this is an awful fit for her. She is confident, she is independent, she is loyal to others but does not want that loyalty returned. She is not quiet. Why Downstar gave her that name, she won’t say. Perhaps it’s a way to calm her fiery spirit?

[Image ID: the title of the article is "Clerics & Their Code". Fennelspot sits underneath the words.]
A two-for-one deal, since the cleric description and the code of clerics option both won in the last lore vote. Today we'll be looking at the two main responsibilities of a cleric and the unique set of restrictions that bind them.
Clerics: Healing
The main job of a cleric, the one which most cats can relate to, is to heal sick and injured Clanmates. Their medicine dens are not only places for recovering cats to sleep but act as important stores for medicinal liquids, powders, and other concoctions. Clerics are very picky about who can meddle in their stores, but there are multiple roles that need access to the medicinal goods. Artisans trade certain medicines with other Clans. Mediators sometimes need herbal remedies for the mental afflictions of the Clan. Historians often learn about medicine in their studies. Meanwhile, caretakers and warriors often assist in collecting herbs and turning them into medicine. Other cats can all be recruited to help clerics in times of crisis when they need more paws caring for injuries or are too sick to care for others themselves.
Cleric medicine is a complex enough topic that a cleric spends most of their life devoted to the subject. It's not just about collecting the right leaves and stuffing them onto wounds. In this world, clerics have a wider range of medicinal technology. They harvest herbs and transform them into some of the following;
Infused oils: While WheatClan is the only Clan that produces the ever-useful flaxseed oil, which they trade for use in both food and medicine, clerics and artisans can make a simpler, cruder oil from animal fat (the finished product isn't considered "oil", however, due to its differences from flaxseed oil). Clerics infuse this oil with herbs by mixing the two in one pot, then setting it inside a bigger pot with some water over a fire (clerics have their own fireplace/oven setup that is only used for medicine). The water around the smaller pot infuses the herbs into the oil over the course of an hour. When it's done, they strain the herbs out of the oil and keep the finished product.
Salves/Balms/Ointments: Clerics mix their infused oil with a strong wax (beeswax or tallow) to create a stronger variation of a traditional chewed poultice (although they may add some solid herbs to the finished product). Ointments involve the use of water and are better for skin/fur issues than the stiffer salves and balms.
Concoctions: This includes adding herbs to food for medicinal benefits, boiling herbs for decoctions, mixing herbs with honey, and otherwise mashing them together.
Clerics also use the herbs as we are traditionally familiar with, having patients chew them or eat them whole. A cleric's job also involves a series of non-herbal strategies, which includes the use of leeches, exercise, grooming, rituals to StarClan, and more. Notably, while cobwebs are a great emergency bandage, artisans can craft actual bandages from animal skin and plant fiber. Some of these bandages can be washed out and reused.
Clerics: Connection To StarClan
The other major job of a cleric is to maintain a connection to StarClan and advise their Clan on the opinions and advice of their ancestors. If a StarClan cat needs to speak to a living cat, they will usually go for the cleric. Oftentimes, StarClan only has the strength and knowledge to send vague signs and omens which clerics are trained to identify and interpret. They visit StarClan's Shrine on the half-moon preceding the Gathering in order to reconnect with the ancestors and get more clear-cut advice (while also connecting with fellow clerics on spiritual/medical matters).
Clerics have a wide range of rituals designed to bring strength from StarClan. They can also summon StarClan spirits through a special ritual (which I will explain another time). They can even perform a variant of it to speak to a Dark Forest cat, but this is seen as taboo and would earn ire from StarClan's Judges.
The Code of Clerics Origins: The First Cleric
The first cleric in the impressive records all historians work hard to maintain was known as Hickoryroot. A lot of her story sounds like myth at this point, but historians have worked hard to keep it as true as they could.
It is said she was a SlugClan warrior from the days where roles were not split as they are in the modern Clans. It is said that she learned some of the first medicines from watching a human (a Native American, possibly East Cree) gather herbs and turn them into a medicine for a wounded friend. The stars saw her experimentation and provided the herbs she needed to establish the foundations of Clan medicine. This provincial relationship made the role of the cleric forever connected to StarClan.
The process of preparing medicine was so time consuming that Hickoryroot had no time to help with hunting, kit care, or the other duties of a warrior. As such, the Clans decided her role would be distinct from the others. She would work under a different set of rules. With that, the Code of Clerics began to grow.
The Decrees within the Code of Clerics
A cleric's job is to care for the health of their Clan and connect the worlds of the living and dead. As such, they are not expected to help in other duties in the same way as most of the other roles. In fact, it is the duty of the Clan to support the cleric in whatever they need. They need more bandages? Artisans will make more bandages. They need extra paws to harvest herbs? Caretakers will join them and care for their herb patches/gardens for them. The Clan will protect and feed the cleric so all they have to worry about is their job.
It is forbidden to endanger, harm, or disrupt the work of a cleric. StarClan helps them heal their Clanmates and guide the Clans as a whole. Since clerics are forbidden from combat, to attack one is sacrilegious and will send a cat to trial. Only StarClan can order a cleric not to heal someone in need. If a cleric decides they need to help, no one can stop them.
Hickoryroot established this practice as a social custom, but it was later solidified as code that clerics cannot take a mate or have kits, even as an honor sire. It's not that a cleric would be distracted by their family (they have friends, siblings, and parents, after all), but rather that a cleric is a servant of StarClan and has an elevated position over other cats. They cannot take a mate in an equal relationship and they cannot take the guiding role of a parent without diluting their spiritual connections. It should be noted, however, that this aspect of the code is only a tradition in RippleClan, not a decree. Clerics in RippleClan are allowed to pursue relationships. Whether Fennelspot will take a mate one day remains to be seen...

[Image ID: The title of the image/article is "Paleshade". Paleshade herself, a StarClan cat, stands under her name. She is a silver/gray and pale ginger tortoiseshell molly with bengal patterns, green eyes, and nettles in her fur.]
Guys, I've been so excited to talk about Paleshade. With the limited format of a clangen blog, it is hard to discuss all the details of Paleshade's life and the effect she had on the story. But now I get to share her life story with you!
Paleshade: 46 (at death), female, codekeeper, daring, great speaker.
Paleshade was born into a litter of three in AshClan to two elders. The birth was risky due to her mother's age and severely strained her mother's body. This would weaken her until she passed partway through Paleshade's apprenticeship. Paleshade was about two moons younger than Weedfoot, so the pair grew up together. From the moment Paleshade was old enough to comprehend her surroundings, she and Weedfoot were inseparable. They were a powerhouse duo that caused chaos through camp but were just charming enough to get away with it.
As apprentices, this friendship blossomed into a crush. That, combined with her mother's passing, made it hard for Paleshade to focus on her studies. She was good with her words, however, and excelled in trials. This would grow into a reputation as one of the best inquisitors/defenders in all the Clans. Her grasp of the code and her willingness to call others out meant that when she was assigned to a trial, she usually won.
Paleshade's skill allowed her to graduate at the same time as Weedfoot rather than with her littermates. She dramatically asked Weedfoot to be her mate as soon as their vigil was over, to which Weedfoot said yes. Together, they tore through AshClan, making friends across the Clans and having fun. As time went on, both Paleshade and Weedfoot saw issues in how the Clans viewed certain issues such as the forced celibacy of clerics, the negative attitudes around outsiders, and the over-reliance of violence to resolve certain issues. Paleshade and Weedfoot were the progenitors of the Ripple ideology and spread it through the other Clans.
The pair did their best to keep their founding a secret as Autumnstar became more outspoken on the "dangers" of the new ideology, exiling a couple of their friends who dared to speak up. After the first exile, Paleshade and Weedfoot named their little group (at least the AshClan part) the Ashes in the Water, drifting to somewhere better. This tension grew over the course of a year, wearing on Paleshade. She relied on the determination of some of her friends, like Downdapple, to push on and believe she was in the right.
Eventually, the Ripple ideology formed into a cohesive separatist movement. The Ashes in the Water formally announced their intention to leave AshClan. They didn't expect their own friends and family to turn on them so viciously.
Eelgrowl severely wounded Paleshade during the battle, leaving her and Weedfoot as the only survivors. They were imprisoned within camp without medical treatment. Weedfoot worked hard to help her mate, as her wounds were not so severe, but she was no cleric. The pair expressed their love to one another each day as Paleshade grew weaker and weaker, until she fell asleep and never woke up.
Paleshade was overjoyed to learn all her friends in the Ashes in the Water made it into StarClan and their movement at last had the backing of their ancestors. Paleshade was proud to give Downstar a life for courage and guide RippleClan to their home. She's promised herself that she would work for RippleClan's security until Weedfoot finally joined her. She helps StarClan as a Judge, almost as a way to thank her ancestors for changing their minds, and because she gets to participate in more trials than ever before now.
In RippleClan (as of Moon 16), Oilstripe often sees Paleshade's spirit lingering near Weedfoot, occasionally whispering words of encouragement. While Oilstripe hasn't has the chance to talk to the Celestial of ideology herself yet, she knows Paleshade keeps an eye on her old mate and is determined to see her through her darkest moments.

[Image ID: The title of the post is "Before RippleClan: Rabbitjoy." Rabbitjoy herself, a brown smoke molly with cyan eyes, sits underneath the title.]
So you guys really wanted to hear more about Rabbitjoy! I was excited to introduce her. As soon as she joined the Clan, I knew she was a former supporter of the Ripple ideology. Now you get to learn more about her journey back to her friends and why she changed her name!
Rabbitjoy: 54 (as of Moon 17), female, artisan, charismatic, master weaver.
Rabbitjoy's mother was an honor queen, in that she consistently took honor-sires to produce litters without a mate. Each of her litters were quite large, but Rabbitjoy's took the cake at seven kits. Yes, one died before their apprenticeship and two more before they finished their training, but large litters are quite the blessing in WheatClan's crop culture. An older sibling suggested naming the brown smoke molly Rabbitkit, teasing her mother Flowernest for her large number of kits. Flowernest took the name in stride.
Rabbitkit was an insecure child, frequently trampled over by her bigger littermates. She had a deep artistic soul, however, that earned her a few friends (such as Rustshade). Naturally, when she became Rabbitpaw, she became an artisan with a particular love of stories, art, and dancing. She was better at weaving than performing, often getting nervous in front of her Clanmates, but she still preferred the entertainment part of her job to the crafting side of things.
When she finished her apprenticeship, Sanderlingstar named her Rabbitfall, a name that reflected her nervous energy but also a windfall of prey. Her friends encouraged her performances so that during Gatherings and inter-Clan celebrations, she joined the other artisans in grand stories (usually in a background role).
One Gathering, the artisans of all the Clans guided the Gathering's guests in a grand dance, where everyone would move along to music produced by artisans across the Clans. As Rabbitfall sang, she noticed a figure swirling among AshClan's numbers. She was a long-furred molly with lilac swirls and pretty white spots. Rabbitfall had seen her in the crowd before, but the way the firelight danced over her fur made her seem... gorgeous.
When another artisan took Rabbitfall's role in the song, she slipped into the crowd and danced closer to the mysterious lilac molly. She wore a beautiful tail wrap with leaves carved into the leather. Rabbitfall summoned all the confidence that laid hidden inside her, stepped into rhythm next to the mysterious molly, and asked to share the dance.
The molly's name was Lavenderleaf, a recently graduated meditator from AshClan. She befriended Rabbitfall that night and slowly introduced her to her other friends, like Weedfoot, Downdapple, and Paleshade. Rabbitfall in turn introduced some of her WheatClan friends like Rustshade.
Rabbitfall gained more confidence and security as she met her friends more and more. As Paleshade and Weedfoot discussed rather complex ideas, Rabbitfall grew closer to Lavenderleaf. Paleshade's ideas of closer Clan connections interested her. Perhaps, by following her ideals, Rabbitfall and Lavenderleaf could become... something more.
Rabbitfall kept her trap shut around her Clan as the Ripple ideology became well-known. She and Lavenderleaf agreed that when they formed a new Clan, they would become mates. While certain Clanmates left the Clans entirely, disappeared, or died in a few dramatic confrontations with other Clan cats, Rabbitfall was a silent supporter who did little but join secret meetings and encourage the idea in closed quarters.
Eventually, only she and Rustshade remained in WheatClan to support the movement. Rabbitjoy was excited to hear that the Ashes in the Water were going to formally leave AshClan. She planned to meet Lavenderleaf by the WheatClan/AshClan border and join the new Clan.
Rabbitfall waited all night, but no one appeared.
Her insecurity and neuroses flourished as the days passed with no news from Lavenderleaf or AshClan. For a few days, AshClan wouldn't even talk to WheatClan. It was only when Rabbitfall and a couple meditators were on patrol that they ran into AshClan and demanded to know why they were so flaky. That's when Rabbitfall learned that most of the Ashes in the Water were dead, with only two remaining as prisoners.
WheatClan was horrified to hear of this, especially Rabbitfall and Rustshade. They no longer hid their beliefs, as now even the most traditional members of WheatClan saw Autumnstar's orders as going too far. The Ashes in the Water were still Clan cats. They didn't deserve to be massacred. The Clan's opinions only grew more open when the clerics returned from StarClan's Shrine that night and revealed that their ancestors supported the Ripple movement.
Rabbitfall joined a small patrol of cats on a sunhigh mission into AshClan territory to rescue the two prisoners. Rabbitfall prayed one of them was Lavenderleaf. Rabbitfall's job was to distract AshClan while Rustshade and the others got the prisoners out. She and her sister Cottonstealer began singing outside AshClan's camp. They sang of Autumnstar's cruelty, of StarClan's support and the blessing of the Ashes in the Water. They lured many cats out of camp, who were unsure just how to handle two intruders singing at them. AshClan chased them away, but their strange distraction gave the others enough to time to free the prisoners and hurry them over the WheatClan border.
Well, prisoner. Weedfoot was the only one left to save.
The news broke Rabbitfall. Even as the remaining members of the movement migrated to WheatClan, ready to form their own Clan near the coast, Rabbitfall felt hopeless. How could RippleClan ever be a Clan when cats like Autumnstar would kill a kind, loving, beautiful mediator like Lavenderleaf? How could Rabbitfall be a part of it? She gave a sorrowful goodbye to her friends and family, promising to find RippleClan if she ever returned.
Rabbitfall spent over a year traveling, searching for answers to the hopelessness, grief, and insecurity she battled. She stayed with humans, learned of creatures and crops the Clans had never seen, made friends who showed her the power of hope and the ways to keep living after loss. The things she saw inspired and transformed her. She abandoned her old suffix, feeling that it would only drag her down, and took a new name; Rabbitjoy. She would choose joy over any internal insecurities she faced, greet new friends with an open heart, and be as true to her thoughtful, artistic self as she could.
With a new name and a new determination, Rabbitjoy made her way back to the Clans and the friends she left behind.

Is it okay to use the roles for both starclan, the clans you added in my clangen stories? I feel it adds alot more to clan life and starclan in general that the books don't really have the what about the game style you use? I find it really interesting type of way to explore a clan! Rippleclan has captivated me in every way and I'm excited to see how the story goes!
Sorry for the late reply, but go right ahead! Part of why I love my expanded roles is because it provides so much more material for storytelling. I'm glad my style has caught your eye!
Here are a few tips for those who want to take inspiration from some of my worldbuilding and how I play Clangen;
Warriors, mechanically, consist of codekeepers, historians, caretakers, and of course, warriors. Mediators can be actual mediators or artisans. Medicine cats are clerics.
When you start a new Clangen, decide what roles your founders have. I made Rustshade a codekeeper, for example, because I thought a sneaky codekeeper would be interesting. Don't forget to note what roles your leader or deputy had before they got their jobs!
When a kit is apprenticed, their mentor determines their path. For example, when Shadowdrop was apprenticed to Rustshade, that made him a codekeeper apprentice. Since these technologically advanced Clans need more mediators/artisans/clerics than RNG gives you, feel free to take liberties with apprenticeships.
When organizing patrols, consider the role of the cat you're choosing and what the patrol is. Hunting patrols can consist of any cat considered a warrior/apprentice mechanically. Caretakers and the occasional warrior join clerics to gather herbs and even do those patrols on their own!
"Border" patrols are more than border patrols. They can be whatever non hunting activity you want. Training can also be more than just battle training. You can consider it to be learning more about the world, practicing artistic skills, etc.
As time goes on, I'll make lore posts for all the roles. Any other advice I could offer would probably be the same as any other blog. I'll want to see your stuff when you're done!

[Image ID: The title is "Clan Holidays: Longest Night". Under this title is a pixelated blue snowflake with white spots.]
After a bit of time away, it's time to touch on the GrayFire fanfiction holiday, the Christmas stand-in that could be more... Longest Night! Rustshade brought his litter of four to RippleClan a few days after Longest Night in Moon 6, but does this bear any symbolic meaning?
Clan Calendar: When To Celebrate
Part of a historian's job is to track the passage of time by studying StarClan's position in Silverpelt while compared to the sun and moon. While the phases of the moon mark the start and end of approximately a 30 day cycle, the placement of the stars helps note specific days and the passage of a year. Essentially, when the Slithering Salamander (Lacerta), Glowface (Cassiopeia), and Nightstrike (Cepheus) gather overhead at sunset, in half a moon's time, Glowface will watch from the top of the sky and welcome the Longest Night. The clerics also assist in this tracking of time and occasionally get reminders from StarClan on the approaching holidays.
Longest Night Origins
Winter is the harshest season, and the longest night of the year reminds the Clans that they face moons of snow and chill that drives away prey and kills crops. A celebration of the Clan's strength, therefore, is perfect for fighting the low mood of the season. It is said that Glowface, a warrior of SlugClan invented the holiday as a way to fight against wicked seasonal spirits and Dark Forest machinations. The more connected the Clan, the less influence external threats have on them and the stronger they become. As such, Longest Night has strong spiritual significance.
Preparation
Longest Night is connected to the winter preparation all the Clans have to work through at the end of autumn. This involves preparing leather pelts to warm dens and help dry wet fur; making sure the herb stores can survive through winter and vital herbs are used sparingly; edible crops are either used or stored; meals are cooked in such a way that they can last through the cold; and the Clan has enough supplies to ensure survival.
In the days leading up to Longest Night, caretakers place small torches around camp to keep the Clan warm. Clerics weave small necklaces and place them around the torches to represent Celestials who could protect the Clan through the winter. Glowface is always included, with her necklace of white dye given to the leader to wear throughout Longest Night. Each Clan also makes a necklace for their Guide. Moonpaw's necklace includes a brilliant shiny stone that Fennelspot got from LynxClan. That stone will be saved for future rituals and generations.
On an individual level, cats decorate their nests with various warm and comforting objects, like feather down, vole pelts, clumps of a friend's fur, and extra moss. They often give these goodies to their friends and family and plan out who they'll spend the night with.
Celebration
When the sun sets on Longest Night, it's time for stories beside a warm and raging fire. Historians recount the tales of heroic Celestials and artisans invent tales to encourage the Clan for the cold days ahead. Some tales remind the Clan of the wicked spirits of winter they must fend off until warmer weather arrives. Cats stay close together as the clerics perform rituals around them, calling for StarClan to join them for the night and protect them from the powerful spirits that threaten them.
As everyone grows tired, traditional den organization is forgotten for the night. Everyone chooses who they want to spend the night with, having prepared their nests together in the days before. With the clerics standing watch, the entire Clan sleeps through the cold, long night.

The Warrior Code: The Code of Kits & Queens
[Image ID: Duskkit and Downstar sit under the title, "The Warrior Code: The Code of Kits & Queens]
Clan law may not be the wordy, twisty mess we see in modern government, but each entry into the code is a series of decrees centered around a specific theme. Each code individually is referred to by its name, while the warrior code as a whole may be referred to as simply "the code". There is a story behind all new laws, but the origins of the Code of Kits & Queens may be one of the saddest.
Code Origins: The Tale of Thornheart
Once upon a time, there was a LynxClan artisan we called Flamewing. The tasks of an artisan are many, but Flamewing in particular loved to trade goods with the other Clans. She had an eye for deals and was a skilled diplomat. She frequently engaged in trade with a WheatClan artisan by the name of Swiftleap. The problem was, she engaged in more than trade.
Flamewing hid her pregnancy for as long as she could, unsure how to explain it to LynxClan. She had no mate, and she could not convince a tom in her Clan to be an honor sire for her. When the Clan realized Flamewing was pregnant, they demanded to know who her sire was; it was custom at that time to make sure honor sires within the Clan did not cross too close to other relations, as the Clans had some understanding that fresh blood made healthy kits. When no one came forward as a sire, LynxClan hosted a trial and forced Flamewing to reveal the name of her sire.
Flamewing had four kits under the eyes of watchful codekeepers. Sure enough, each kit looked like Swiftleap. LynxClan feared the children would have loyalties to WheatClan and foil LynxClan plans. In their xenophobic fear and anger, with Flamewing's guilty verdict after her trial, LynxClan slaughtered all four kits and gave the mother a dishonor title; Thornheart, a name that suggested a sort of painful love that brought ruin in its wake.
In StarClan's fury at the death of four innocent lives, they stole four lives from the LynxClan leader, Petalstar, and ordered her to make amends for her wickedness if she wished to join StarClan one day. With that, the Code of Kits & Queens was born.
The Decrees within the Code of Kits & Queens
Under the Code of Kits & Queens, a kit cannot be harmed. It is the duty of the Clans to protect all kits, regardless of their origins. A kit cannot be thrown out of their Clan solely for being half-Clan or as punishment to their parents. A kit's actions are their own and must be judged accordingly. A kit cannot be harmed in combat and any kits in danger must be rescued to the best of the cat's ability. No one can stand to the side and let a kit die.
Since the simple knowledge of being half-Clan can endanger a kit, the Clan cannot question a queen as to the identity of her sire; her kits are to be treated as pure-blood Clan cats. This privilege is extended to toms who bring kits into the Clan. A queen without a mate may be suspected by her Clanmates, but there is a good chance she isn't breaking the code thanks to honor-siring. A molly can mate with a tom outside the Clan for the sake of diversity and bringing new life to the Clan. They aren't supposed to have romantic ties with these sires, but it's become a more respected choice over the moons. Often mollies will pick wandering loners and kittypets, but sometimes they make deals with toms from other Clans, hoping their children inherit the tom's skills.
Kits and nursing queens are some of the first to eat every day. They require more consistent meals than older and stronger cats, and must be cared for. This was always tradition, but after Thornheart, it was put into code.
Kit-snatching was officially outlawed with this code, although it is hard to investigate certain instances of kit-snatching since the code also prevents the questioning of a kit's origins. In the past, in times of need, the Clans would snatch kits from nursing loners, kittypets, even one another. Wars were waged over these kits, but it also established a strong tradition of adoption within the Clans. If a codekeeper was to investigate kit-snatching, someone would have to come forward with a report of losing their kits.
At the end of the day, the focus of this code is to protect the lives of all kits that grow under the protection of the Clans.

[Image ID: Twinekit and Moonpaw in their StarClan forms. The title above them says "StarClan: Structures & Basics of Power"]
So, StarClan is… an interesting group. Everyone has their own take on them, because almost no one likes how they are written in canon. The Erins clearly want StarClan to be a Christian analogy. They want interaction with StarClan to be a story about having faith in an omnipotent, benevolent force despite the challenges you face. I don’t think this is a bad thing, per se. However, the basic world building of StarClan makes this almost impossible to effectively portray for two reasons.
A: The living cats speak to StarClan all the time. This means that the writers must write dead characters in a character-accurate way while giving them divine knowledge and power. StarClan lacks the separation needed to say “we may not understand them but we need to trust they’re working towards a greater purpose”. When our heroes can actively talk to God, God needs to have something of value to say, something that would contradict the characterization of whatever dead cat you’ve chosen to deliver the information.
B: StarClan is a body of dead spirits who make terrible decisions. As readers, we can scan through the entire Warriors timeline, and that makes a lot of decisions seem ridiculous, contradictory, or outright cruel. Some notable examples include the Leafpool and Squirrelflight issues, Goosefeather, Jayfeather, letting Ashfur into StarClan but sending Frecklewish to the Dark Forest, and more. Some of these could work if we weren’t in constant communication with StarClan, but we are.
With all these issues, every AU or FanClan needs to explain how they view StarClan in an effort to craft better world building and useful tension. For RippleClan’s Promise, I take some inspiration from @bonefall and his Better Bones AU (hi bone love your work hope you like this). Other details are based around the mechanics of Clangen and my own personal tastes. For this lore post, we’ll discuss the basics of StarClan and what they are capable of.
Positions In StarClan
Clan culture is based on hierarchy and on listening to figures of authority, so why would StarClan not have their own unique positions? In this series, positions are based on how long someone has been dead, their reputation among the living, their personal interests, and the occasional bout of StarClan politics. In StarClan, all are meant to be equal, but authority is to be respected when working towards the good of the living.
The Newly-Dead are StarClan's most recent arrivals. They are often chosen to present information to the living due to their close ties to living friends and family. They could also be called the "face" of StarClan. They spend their time learning about StarClan, reuniting with loved ones, and delivering prophecies/visions/omens under the orders of others. After some time, they can move onto other roles, although some prefer just to rest.
Fetchers spend their time escorting the souls of the Clan's dead away from Earth. When a Clan cat dies, their soul sticks around for a while. Their souls can be stuck on Earth if their deaths are not properly acknowledged and/or the Fetcher cannot find them. There are stories of souls hiding from Fetchers long enough to return to their bodies, but the Clans aren't sure if they are stories for historians or artisans. Fetchers also protect the souls of leaders as their bodies recover from a lost life.
Judges keep an eye on the choices of the living to see who deserves to join their ranks. When someone dies, if there is a chance they do not deserve StarClan, the Judges will host a trial, like those of codekeepers on Earth. One judge will defend the soul while another accuses them of breaking the code one too many times and standing against the values of the Clans.
Blessed Ones can create blessings and miracles for the living. When the living have earned their favor, Blessed Ones encourage the growth of certain plants, foster the expansion of prey, and design kits in the bellies of pregnant queens. If StarClan is angry, the Blessed Ones help guide that anger into a specific manifestation.
Rather than fading, if a cat is forgotten by the living and has grown tired, they join the All-Seeing. The All-Seeing is considered a singular deity who stores the memories and personalities of every StarClan cat within them. If they push themself, they can separate a soul from themselves to present as an individual, but they prefer to stay whole. Few living cats have ever met them, for they stay out of living affairs. They tend to the river of space and time, which shows them all events of the past, present, and future concerning the Clans. They share these notes with other StarClan cats through prophecies and orders for dreams and visions. It's hard to tell if the All-Seeing truly cares about the Clans, or if they just want to watch a story unfold.
Sometimes a cat reincarnates rather than joining the All-Seeing. They can be dead for any length of time, but the act of reincarnation is a sacrifice. Their next self will recognize who they once were after they die, but their own personality will be gone.
Cats who want to stick around or have a strong memory in the Clans gain more power and authority in their chosen roles. These cats are known as Celestials and are similar to Christian saints or niche gods in a pantheon. Celestials can display god-like forms and are considered the guardians of a specific domain.
The highest of the Celestials is a small group known as the Guides. There are five Guides, one for each Clan. They can be considered the leaders of StarClan due to their determination to maintain their beloved Clans. Each Guide died or lived in such a way to permanently tie them to their Clan. Moonpaw was chosen as the guide of RippleClan and is therefore the Celestial of RippleClan.
What Can StarClan Do?
StarClan's power is largely based on individual prestige and collective emotion. All StarClan cats can take a form matching any part of their lives and visit the living Clans. Fetchers have unique abilities that allow for the manipulation of souls. Judges have the power to take cats between StarClan and the Dark Forest. The Blessed Ones work together to bless the territory. Celestials have some special abilities connected to what they represent. However, all these cats only have power because they have a community to look after so they can one day join them in their peaceful, starry abode.
The All-Seeing is the only one who actually receives knowledge of the future. Their rather neutral perspective on life, death, and what the living need to know is a source of frustration for anyone who isn't ready to join them. Sure, StarClan sees a lot, but the All-Seeing gets mad if they reveal too much to the living. Even the Guides don't want to piss off the All-Seeing.
In terms of influencing events, StarClan's power is limited by their emotion. Some of their greatest signs are the result of moments of utter rage. The Blessed Ones manage the collective emotion of StarClan and guide each boost of emotional power into a stronger blessing or curse outside of their own limited abilities.
There is more to StarClan, such as their relationship with the Dark Forest, but I'll save that for another day. I'll leave you with this: Twinekit may be a Newly-Dead as of Moon 8, but she will eventually become a Fetcher for RippleClan.

[Image ID: A pixel pride flag with the title "Clan Culture: Gender & Sexuality]
So... gay cats! I'll admit, RippleClan's Promise doesn't really focus on queer themes all that much, but there are gonna be some gay cats, and they're gonna be in realistic, well-written relationships, and I'm going to write them through the lens of a fictional culture! Yeah! I don't want the cats to see gender and sexuality just like modern humans do, so I want to give them a few quirks that you may have already seen in Moon 11.
Gender: Scent-Based Assumptions
Now I'll be honest, a lot of cats in the Clans are cis. It's just statistics, is all. However, cats don't have all the physical gender identifiers us humans do. Sure, ginger cats are more likely to be toms, and tortoiseshells are almost always born female, but there are plenty of exceptions! As such, Clan cats can't just assume they know what someone is from far away.
When meeting a new cat for the first time, when they are some distance away, a Clan cat will use they/them pronouns to define the newcomer. However, once the cat comes closer, the Clan cat then switches to he/him or she/her based on the cat's smell. This is because toms and mollies have distinct differences in their scent. The intensity of someone's hormonal scent varies throughout any given moon, but it is fairly consistent among fertile cats like those in the Clans. It's hard to translate tom-scent and molly-scent into human terminology, since a cat's sense of smell is far superior. However, based on research into actual cats, I have a few analogies.
Tom-scent is the stronger of the two and possesses a slight sour tint. Molly-scent, meanwhile, could best be described as both sweet and salty. Spayed/neutered cats possess either an extremely weak version of their birth-scent or none at all. In those situations, or when a cat's scent is confusing, Clan cats will check with the newcomer.
If your scent does not match up with your gender/pronouns, then you'll need to introduce yourself. This is common in Clan culture, so no one feels weird about it. It's weirder for someone whose scent matches their gender to specify pronouns, as in a Clan cat's eyes, its just restating something they already know.
Gender: Scent Affirmation
Since scent is the biggest identifier of toms and mollies, trans cats in the Clans focus less on changing stuff about their bodies and more on shifting their scents. Clerics have some treatments for this! Lemonweed is a common treatment to reduce tom-scent or molly-scent if the trans warrior eats some of it. When it comes to producing a certain scent, different cats need different herbs. Trans toms can use pine pollen, stinging nettle root, or sasparilla root. Trans mollies can add fennel to their diets instead.
If a cat is nonbinary or otherwise doesn't want their tom-scent/molly-scent, they'll focus on lemonweed. In theory, if humans kidnapped them and didn't kill them outright, they might be able to return with all that scent stripped away, but that's not really feasible.
Sexuality: We Care About One Thing and One Thing Only
Clan cats don't really care about sexual nuances. You can really date anyone (okay not really but not based on gender). They mostly look at individual relationships and ask a single questions: can they make kits?
I know, that's an icky question to us, but that's because we don't live in a society where our survival is contingent on a small population reproducing. All relationships are classified as either able or unable to have kits. Most straight relationships are in the former category. However, relationships between, say, a trans tom and cis tom might still fall into that category too (but I'm not writing that for... multiple reasons). These relationships have a cultural pressure to have at least one litter of kits that survive to adulthood. It can be hard to be in a relationship where kits are possible, but you just don't want any.
Meanwhile, if the relationship is physically unable to produce kits, there is some cultural disappointment that can linger over a relationship. However, this is resolved if the couple manage to adopt some kits (which considering how often Clangen cats just find random kits, isn't a long shot), as adoption is seen as the same as birthing kits right into the nursery.
(Up next, artisan lore!)

[Image ID: The title of the lore post is "Name Deep Dive: Locustseeker". Locustseeker themself stands under the title in their StarClan form.]
So this got delayed thanks to me getting violently sick, but my brain can actually work now, so I get to talk about name lore! I'm so happy you guys voted for this name deep dive. It sucks that my only distinctly NB character died (Applepelt is she/they, but in-game they're just female), but now we get to talk about the name Locustseeker got in StarClan!
Prefix: "Locust"
Locusts are a species of grasshopper famous for gathering in giant swarms to devour crops. Most of the Clans don't have to worry about this swarming behavior, as their herb gardens and smaller fields are barely noticed by humans and therefore largely ignored by locusts. Most of the time, locusts are solitary insects that can add a special something to a few dishes.
In WheatClan, however, when the days are dry, locusts have the potential to form the great swarms of historian and artisan stories, attacking the human farms and WheatClan's offshoot fields. Despite this insectoid plague, Locust is a popular prefix in WheatClan.
When a kit is named Locustkit, their prefix carries two major connotations. The first is destruction, stemming from a locust's ability to devastate the environment when pushed far enough. The second, despite their typical solitary lifestyle, is the power of community and Clan life. When locusts band together, they are stronger than they could ever be alone. This is a great metaphor for the community mindset the Clans preach.
Suffix: "-seeker"
In Clan tongue, seeker has the same occupational ending as other words like cleric or historian (even though they're not spelled the same in our game's wonderful English translation, lol). This means that the seeker suffix is itself a job which the owner exemplifies.
A seeker's job is to find something. This finding can be emotional, literally, spiritual, whatever. If someone is a -seeker, they may have gone on a quest or completed a mission that was important to the Clan, such as Locustseeker's mission to speak to Gorgestar. Although they were not necessarily finding anything, the suffix is fitting.
Full Name: Locustseeker
Locustseeker is an interesting name, as pairing the suffix with this particular prefix creates two distinct sorts of names, one positive and one a bit darker.
When you look at the destruction connotation of Locust, Locustseeker's name means "seeking destruction". This would imply a violent and troublesome personality. Locustseeker was a bit of a troublemaker in life, so it isn't inaccurate. However, that's not why Fennelspot and Downstar gave them the name.
The other meaning to Locustseeker's name is "seeking Clanhood". By seeking the way of the locust, you are seeking to find the strength and joy of living within a Clan, guided by purpose and innovation. Locustseeker gave their life on a mission for the Clan. As such, when they are thought of, everyone will know that they sought RippleClan to the end of their days.
