you were slightly worried, frantic even. questions filled your head to the brim. would ritsu even show up? was he okay? what happened between him and rei?

hiyori tried his best to console you, but never exactly told you what went on nor what ritsu’s relationship with rei is. you were just so stressed, days passed and nothing productive had been done, until valentine’s day came.

you sat nervously, pushing your fingernails into the flesh of your hand. sitting there fiddling with your fingers lost in thought, tears had welled up in your eyes at the thought of him standing you up when he was the one who asked you out first.

you didn’t understand why your heart ached so much thinking about ritsu, was it truly love? your mind raced, drowning any sound out except for your inner voice.

but then, a snap was heard. you instantly woke up from your daze to see a worried, tired ritsu. he seemed to have been running to get here—his lips parted to catch his breath, hair slightly messy from the soft breeze.

“[name], are you okay? you were just sitting here lost in thought.” he frowned. everything moved before you knew it, much to his surprise, you had quickly wrapped your arms around him. his eyes widened with panic, “woah there, did you really miss me that much, [name]?” he teased, rubbing your back gently.

“just..” your voice trailed off, becoming small, “..let me have this one hug.” your eyes fluttered shut and he sighed in content, humming happily, “you can have as many as you want, you know?” you squeeze him tighter, “because you’re my dearest [name].”

he was pulling on your heart strings and he didn’t even know it, you quickly shook your head in fear he’d take you home. you didn’t understand why, but you wanted to stay with him as long as possible and the possibility of him having to take you home because he thought you weren’t feeling well was enough for your heart to ache again.

he whined, “are you sure? if so, let’s keep going!” he clasped his fingers around yours and led you around—just like the first time. you couldn’t tell if it was just because it was valentine’s day, or if the atmosphere just seemed weird, but you could not take your eyes off of him,, or his lips.

the sun was finally starting to set, colors mixed together with a soft hue of red and orange painting the vast sky. you and ritsu had made tons of precious memories today, and you wish it’d never end.

“[name],” you turned your head to look at him, he was brimming with pure happiness. “thank you for today, but i have to leave now. i’m suuuper exhausted after running around all day, it’s not what i usually do, you know?” he chuckled, “but i’d do it for you.”

you frowned, “okay, see you next time then?” he nods, grinning. “see you next time,” he slowly walks over to you and you half-expect him to hug you but instead, his lips—yes, the lips you’ve been nonstop staring at ever since this silly date started—gently peck your cheek. he pulls away just as fast as he leaned in and walks away happily.

you’re stunned, completely stiff. you fingertips touch the exact area of where he kissed and your eyes widen. a simple “oh.” was all you could muster before you quickly turned to see if ritsu had already left. much to your disappointment, he did.

you immediately ask nagisa to take you home, and once he arrives—you’re all sparkles and pure happiness. you’re practically beaming with joy.
