So this AU idea came to me 1 night ago and I spent a full day on this drawing I did cause I just had to get it out of my system if I'm to focus on writing The Horrors some more. So I present to you...

True Gaia Sonic!

Design notes not mentioned above:

-I took inspiration from those designs where one half is an angel and the other half is a demon.

-I'll get to the colors eventually but the only important thing to note rn is that the Light Gaia half is a very light blue while the Dark Gaia half is a dark blue. The arms are specifically the werehog blue while the rest is slightly lighter. Plus the orb on his chest is half green and half purple.

-The Dark Gaia half is purposefully more complex (to my own annoyance) and messier looking compared to the Light Gaia half.

-While the small chart I made depicts the middle quills, I think I should also mention it the difference between the bottom ones too. That being that Light Gaia half is more downward and relaxed looking while the Dark Gaia half is higher and more defensive looking.

-He can bulk up the werehog looking arm and stretch it.

-I was actually struggling with the shoe design until I made a happy accident with the right shoe with a small line.

-The tail is a combination of Chip's tail and a serpentine tail. You can't honestly tell me that Dark Gaia's body type doesnt scream serpent...

-Speaking of the tail, the stinger's effect is similar to paralyzation but not quite. It does that effect in game where the humans get all super hopeless during night. Like the icecream guy for example.

-Using a height comparison website, with the average human adult height being around 175cm according to Google, I'd say he's around 240cm. Not huge but substantially taller than a human.

Summary for the beginning of the story under the cut!

So there's this cult that collects a combination of Light and Dark Gaia energy so they can create the perfect god. A balance of both light and dark.

The True Gaia.

But they can't just make a god out of energy alone. They need a vessel, someone capable of wielding both Gaia energies.

Someone like Sonic the Hedgehog.

They know a good portion of Sonic's exploits as the Werehog, a being capable of utilizing the darkness of a god. And then there's all the times Sonic has saved the world. A true emissary of Light.

The perfect vessel for their god.

Lots of planning and preparation go into their scheme of kidnapping Sonic to use him as a vessel. Swifly and efficiently, they store Sonic in a previously setup test tube designed to infuse him with the energies of both Light and Dark Gaia. The process takes awhile as one does not simply infuse such powerful energies all at once. As strong as Sonic is, there is no room for such risks.

But before they can fully realize their goal, they're raided by the Police (since GUN had no reason to suspect this was anything but your average sacrifical cult) with the assistance of Team Chaotix in tracking them down.

Then they find Sonic what they can only presume is True Gaia in a test tube. And like. Knowing the kind of crazy stuff that happens in their world they decide that watever this might be, they did not sign up for this shit. So they talk with the Chaotix again in hope of contacting some heroes, aka at least someone more suitable, aka not GUN cuz they'll probably just make it worse and the world doesn't need another damn crisis on it's hands, to deal with this.

That's how Tails and Knuckles (for backup in case something goes wrong) wind up finding Sonic encountering True Gaia . Yet theres multiple things about this entity that signal a bunch of alarm bells for Tails that this might be his missing brother. The way they're blue, the much slimmer yet undeniably werehog looking arm, and most tellingly the shoe design.

Tails eventually manages to drain the tube and release him from the stuff he's hooked up to. It let's him fall to the floor gently and opens the tube. Now on his knees, Sonic slowly opens his eyes and then looks up at Tails. Hesitantly, Tails calls out Sonic's name.

There's a pretty noticeable echo in Sonic's voice as he responds to Tails with something like "Sonic...? Although that is familiar, we are the True Gaia. That being said, we must thank you for freeing us." And he studies Tails for a few seconds before going "Hmm... You seem very familiar as well. You called us Sonic earlier. Admittedly, the name feels more... natural than True Gaia, though I do not why. Maybe... Do we know you?"

And Tails, just wanting his missing big brother back, takes this as confirmation it's him and is like "Yes, it's me! Tails!" while Sonic True Gaia is there feeling strangely protective of this child he just met.

💚 is there one? ...ears? ik those are hard for some ppl but thats the thing i do in 3 seconds

💚 dunno if this is motifs, but first thing that pops up in my mind is wuxia theme... or funky angles, also anything y2k inspired

💚 rn most furry anthro art? as i prefer doing sonic style anthros but i still like doing it its just connected to only work now for me. so i think that affects it as well cuz work = no fun

💚 rarely now, it taught me to only use one hand while drawing which i hate, cuz i rather click the undo button than go ctrl z. its either popcorn or fruit or nacho chips

💚 my main thing is digital But i have broken several promarkers on purpose to dye some stuff with the ink especially cosplay wigs etc

19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)

💚 hmm aside from clothes maybe nature background (if i can keep it messy) like shrubs, clouds. but i prefer characters. and hate anything geometrical

💚 probably hands and aforementioned (human) ears are easier for me

💚 theres so many i cant even name, but to choose one, anything overly retro cartoony and like don bluth style... i would love to draw like that but i would have to rewire my brain

💚 i should stretch but i rarely do :( sometimes i do wrist exercises

💚 if it means like like overlays and stuff, yes, i use those and shadow+light for shading bigger pieces, sometimes lumi if needed

💚 if im lost on the idea then yes.. or i use my own reflection/shitty webcam photos, you know (but senshistock has a place in my heart)

25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by

💚 definitelly happened but i cant remember

💚 uhh if its meant from others, then one picture i drew of murdoc and noodle. meant to be harmles father daughter fun. but. people online are gross creeps and you can imagine what they said :/

💚 i cant warm up as i will spend hours on the warmup and waste time and energy i could put into the main thing (and most of the time i end up liking the warmup more)

Sonic Filmverse Chaos Emerald Theory, Part Who Fucking Knows: The Novelization won’t shut up about Chaos

Original Theory for Context

So, earlier, @birdsareblooming was given two quotes from the Sonic 2020 novelization implying Chaos energy is present in Sonic- link here. So, I got a hold on the novelization to see what was up.

Now, disclaimer outright: the novelization is based on an early version of the script, from what I can tell, and so it’s not super accurate to the final film- Wade, Jojo, Rachel and Ozzy are nonexistent, Maddie barely does anything, there’s less death fakeouts, etc... however, it should be noted that this is considered official, and so should count for at least something.

And as for what it counts for? I tabbed off every instance of the word “chaos” or “chaotic” in this book, and...

IT’S. A LOT.

According to the Amazon search feature, which I used because I’m too lazy to count myself, there are 14 instances of “chaos” and 5 of “chaotic”, totaling 19. And almost all of them are related to Sonic’s power. Not all of them, of course, but enough to draw suspicion.

Below, I’m going to list each line that references chaos with the page number, and you can... draw your own conclusions.

p.8: [Longclaw] was the only one who had cared for him after the emergence of his powers. Even in their world, the blur fur... the electric speed... it was nearly indescribable. There were some who believed his powers would unleash chaos on the world.

p.8: And so Longclaw took him into hiding on the island. There he could run free and be something close to a normal kid. The most chaotic things about his life were his hilarious pranks. That’s how he saw it.

p.10: And the hoods these [echidnas] wore showed their allegiance to the powerful warlords who had chased Sonic his whole life. They wanted to unleash the chaos energy inside him and overtake the world. [a]

p.11: “It’s too late for that. And besides, you don’t want to live only to destroy. You were meant for more than chaos.” [Longclaw] said, like she had a thousand times before. “I don’t know why this power came to you, but I have to believe that it was for more than being a pawn in someone else’s game.”

p.38-39: And the faster he went, the more his fur and his quills tingled with that chaotic blue energy.

p.39: The entire field exploded, knocking even Sonic off course and into the dirt. He squinted and just caught a massive wave of blue chaos energy shooting up and out across the sky.

p.42-43: Robotnik had been contacted twelve hours after the incident. Twelve hours since an electrical shockwave exploded out of Podunk Hills and caused chaos for over eight hundred miles.

p.79: By the time Sonic was able to stop laughing, a wall of bikers- all filled with rage- had surrounded them. That’s when chaos broke out.

p.92: The botnik shuddered as Sonic’s hands reached out in front of him and made a thunderous clap. The shockwave of chaotic blue energy radiated out of those fingers with all its fury pointed back from where they’d come from.

p.98: The more [Robotnik] stared into the chaotic energy of this hedgehog, the more Robotnik became obsessed with the potential of harnessing its disorder. With that kind of power source, he could convert the whole world into a robot revolution.

p.110: “Donut Lord, you don’t know what it’s like when I let that chaos out of me,” [Sonic] said. “I’ve never seen humans shoot lightning out of their butts.”

p.113-114: “You want to feel the power of real chaos so bad?” Sonic taunted. “You’ll have to catch me first, Ro-Butt-Nik!” [b]

p.114: Sonic launched himself in the air, and suddenly he could see everything in fine detail. He had sensed it at the roadhouse, too, but he was having too much fun then to understand what was happening. All the madness, the mayhem, the pure chaos of the fight slowed down in his mind, and he could perceive every motion of Robotnik’s mindless Badniks. [c]

p.116: Robotnik had pulled up a glass case containing Sonic’s lost quill. And with a click, he activated the quill as a chaos power battery.

p.118-119: “He’s got the power of chaos now,” Sonic said as he dropped through the air in the free fall. “I can’t leave him with even a drop of that power.”

p. 130: “You think you got it all figured out, but you played yourself,” Sonic said with a jeer as he sped from spot to spot, just ahead of the egg-pod’s busted cannons. “You thought you could steal a bit of my chaos energy and use it to bend the world to your will. But it doesn’t work like that. Chaos doesn’t get controlled, and neither do I, Ro-Butt-Nik!” [d]

p.131: “Chaos doesn’t have to mean destruction,” Sonic said, dodging from side to side. “I know how it works now.” [e]

p.132: A final chaotic burst threw the ring right at Robotnik, eating up the scientist and his cruel machine. A shockwave of blue lightning dissipated in the air, and when the sound of thunder died down, Sonic stood alone in a burned circle of dirt.

Other notes:

a. Calling the echidnas “powerful warlords” makes more sense when you remember Pachacamac is in charge of them rn... and what was Pachacamac trying to steal to use as a weapon, again? Some emeralds?

b. This doesn’t have anything to do with the theory, but I just wanna say the novelization had way more SATAM references with “Ro-Butt-Nik” and Sonic calling things “Way past cool” and now I just miss Sally.

c. Sounds a bit like Chaos Control, hun.

d. This one seems the most deliberate and intentional reference- but with all the other references to chaos energy, it just makes the others seem more legit to me.

e. Sonic Adventure vibes....

Ok so i’m giving just a bunch of refs and some dont rly fit the x or even the human part (i’ll put that one at the end) but are still just the overall ? Monster and human interaction or just cute monsters in general

Things available in english and purchaseable! They’re all pretty well known so i won’t go into it: The ancient magus bride (anime currently airing), The girl from the other side, Wadanohara and the Blue sea ( wada isn’t really human? but it still has the feel and it’s full of cute designs, also a game, careful with depictions of gore and sexual assault)

Deemo: a game about a little girl and a big black figure named Neemo who play piano in their own little world

Two webcomics that are rly good! They don’t really have humans? I guess but they’re just so full of cute monsters!

Devilscandy and Mandarin Orange

Now for things that aren’t available in english but you can still purchase from sites like cdjapan and such!:

Ishu Renai Monogatari Shu : An anthology now spanning 4 volumes all about monster and human relationships! It’s unfortunately only available in japanese but it has a lot of different and cute stories. The author of Girl from the other side contributes to all four volumes and draws the covers of 2-4.

Niehime to Kemono no Ou : Girl who is supposed to be sacrificed to the monster king is spared by him as he’s actually half human and never eats any of his sacrifices, connection happens because the girl has no place to go back to and she ends up becoming the king’s bride. Pretty cute! I really loved the designs on this one (a crocodile girl who’s a sweetheart and i really liked)

Noel the mortal fate: rpgmaker game that’s still only available in japanese (for free though) with a manga series. Snobbish girl gets tricked into making a deal with a demon after she loses a piano concert, loses all her limbs and is left for dead, the demon (Caron) takes pity on her and grants her dying with to “Save her” and they both start their road to revenge and for her to regain her arms back and play piano again. (this series is pretty anime and rly gets u hyped up ! Plus it has a host of interesting characters, also the ost is badass .

Beauty and the beast from disney and moomin ( mymble and the police chief are in love? Though I wonder if the mymbles and such are actually human or not..it’s a bit complicated i guess !)

Does nightmare before christmas count as sally is a humanoid frankestein and sally is a human looking frankendoll i wonder

(also just going to add the animal crossing movie because the mayor is human, and she totally had a crush on the wolf girl)

(rouge and that human police officer)

Honorary mention: Arashi no yoru no uta, they’re all animals in this movie but it’s still so cute ( and a cute mlm love story, like..i have no idea how you can interpret it any other way. They even changed the goat’s gender to female in the shitty cgi series because they knew how gay it was)

I can’t really think of any others off the top of my head rn and some I feel don’t really fit the monster x human thing that well (since they’re demons or vampires or otherwise too humanoid looking that i don’t feel they rly count like hotel transylvania and corpse bride but check them out if u’d like ?)
