        the  words  hit  too  close  to  home,  mocha  hues  instantly  drifting  to  the  other  side  of  the  bar  where  jake  is.  most  of  the  time  amy  tries  to  be  discreet  and  hide  her  feelings,  but  not  with  jonah.  jonah  understands,  after  all,  having  his  own  problems  with  his  own  unrequited  crush.  truthfully,  for  a  second  all  she  could  think  of  was  how  he  likes  an  amy  and  she  likes  someone  whose  name  starts  with  a  j,  but  things  have  changed.  they  are  friends  now,  funny  enough.  the  type  that  drink  beers  together  at  shaw’s  and  talk  about  feelings.  

         a  minute  passes  &  amy  realizes  she  is  still  quiet  and  looking  at  jake,  shaking  her  head  before  focusing  back  on  @ruggedcountrie​.  ❝  i  know  what  you  mean,  ❞  she  whispers,  taking  a  sip  of  her  beer  before  she  keeps  going.  ❝  no  one  is  telling  you  not  to  care.  you  just-  you  can’t  care  the  way  you  want  to,  i  guess.  which  is  not  easy,  i  know,  but-  i  don’t  know.  this  is  so  silly.  we  are  freaking  adults,  you  know?  it  should  not  be  this  hard  to  deal  with  feelings  for  a  co-worker.  ❞

GORGUG’S   SHOULDERS   DRAW   UP   AROUND   HIS   EARS.         he’s   always   felt   too   tall      —      too   big   for   any   space   he’s   in.      playing   in   fig’s   band,   sitting   in   the   back   behind   a   large   set   of   drums,   helps   with   that,   oddly   enough      —      but   only   when   he’s   onstage.      everywhere   else,   being   a   ‘famous   rockstar’   is   really   weird.   

“      do   you   think   we   have   crystal   service   yet?      ”            he   asks   instead   of   replying.      gorgug   pulls   out   his   phone   one   more   time,   checking   for   any   messages,   or   any   bars   that   might   indicate   he   can   send   one   himself.            “      i   haven’t   talked   to   zelda   all   day   .   .   .      ”

      glossy  lips  are  pressed  together,  mocha  hues  roaming  the  store.  it  has  been  a  weird  couple  of  weeks  doing  counseling  with  adam  and  feeling  like  they  are  not  going  nowhere,  but  she  is  ready  to  focus  on  work  and  forget  about  everything  else.  it  is  what  amy  is  good  at,  after  all.  in  fact,  the  raven-haired  woman  is  distracted  and  does  not  even  notice  when  she  bumps  into  jonah  until  her  things  are  on  the  floor.  ❝  oh,  hi.  sorry.  i  didn’t  think  you  were  working  today.  ❞

KEYLETH   ALWAYS   BELIEVES   IN   HIM.         percy   isn’t   sure   how,   given   what   she’s   seen   from   him      —      what   she   knows   that   he   has   done   and   wanted   to   do.      but   she   is   unfailing   in   her   faith.      percy   does   not   deserve   it,   and   he   does   not   want   it   for   this,   right   now.

WITH   A   SLICE   OF   HIS   SWORD   AND   SWISH   OF   HIS   SHEET,   FABIAN   APPEARS   BETWEEN   FIG   AND   HER   ASSAILANT.         but,   of   course,   she   would   not   be   fig   if   she   did   not   have   some   sort   of   commentary   on   the   way   he   puts   himself   between   her   and   the   danger.   

“      not   now,   fig,      ”            he   replies   in   that   characteristic   sing-song   he’s   never   managed   to   shake      —      posh   and   proper,   with   a   sword   and   a   dance.      but   he   turns   to   her   once   the   cretin   is   cut   down,   with   a   sparkle   of   spells.            “      i   believe   in   you!      ”            the   magic   always   feels   better   when   it   feels   like   this:      inspiring,   helpful,   beautiful.
