'Rarely in recent years has so much public attention been riveted on three films opening over a single two-week period. Just as “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” (Paramount) has arrived, and just ahead of the July 21 openings of “Barbie” (Warner Bros. Discovery) and “Oppenheimer” (Universal), hopes for three distinct films changing the trajectory for the summer are sky-high.
Ahead of the initial reports on “Mission: Impossible” results from pre-Wednesday previews, here’s a film-by-film analysis of the opportunities and challenges for each film, as well as their combined potential for theaters.
“Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One”
Two things to note ahead: The pre-marketing cost on this latest sequel has been reported as $290 million, triple both of the previous two films in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. And you might have noticed the marketing? Not cheap either.
Then, there are the expectations. Anything less than the biggest film of the summer (“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is heading to close to $400 million) or even the year (“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” $574 million) might seem disappointing.
That’s unfair and unrealistic. That potential certainly exists, but so do impediments.
The consistent appeal of this franchise since 1996 (as well as its consistent quality) is evident....
This summer has consistently shown multiple franchise titles falling short of high-end expectations...But could lesser sequel resistance be a factor here?
Though past films have overcome this, “Mission: Impossible” is the first half of a two-part story. That could impact reactions, thanks to an ending that, by all accounts, only whets the appetite for more.
“Mission: Impossible” also faces the issue of limited playtime in premium theaters, as well as second-weekend competition from both “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.” A handful of films this summer (“Spider-Verse,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Elemental”) have sustained strong holds, but the norm this year has been quick falloffs.
On the plus side, this is getting initially strong reviews...
Domestic returns are important, but any response to the film’s grosses should be more on the international side, both because of precedent (the previous two films’ take came from less than 30 percent domestic)...
Paramount is pushing all the buttons to maximize the gross. A Wednesday opening, plus three different sets of previews that started more limited (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday) will produce a higher gross than just the normal Friday start. And the hope is that initial positive response make the weekend bigger.
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”
These are two significant non-franchise titles in the heart of the summer, both costing around $100 million, both from previously acclaimed directors, with both hoping to receive both critical and popular positive response to propel them beyond the pre-release appeal the films already have.
The awareness for “Barbie” has been sky-high since production was announced. That sort of interest is tricky to maintain. The marketing has not faltered through its one-showing premiere last Sunday.
Like “Oppenheimer,” it faces challenges. It’s not what a four-quadrant movie (its appeal initially is skewing more female). It’s a comedy, with a tricky path to find the right balance.
It also has in Greta Gerwig a director whose “Lady Bird” and “Little Women” both surpassed expectations, and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as leads, and of course familiarity with the iconic dolls. And its originality might actually be an asset as audiences get more resistant to retreads.
“Oppenheimer” with Christopher Nolan directing (of course, a huge part of its draw) has likewise been in the spotlight since announced. As a biopic about a scientist, partially in black and white, 180 minutes, it’s not normal summer wide-release fare.
Nolan has smartly positioned the film as a visual experience. His previous films have emphasized premium formats, and the curiosity about how the spectacular power of atomic explosions are conveyed in state-of-the-art technology is high with this one.
His previous World War II-set “Dunkirk,” also released in July, was a success with adjusted grosses of around $200 million domestic/$600 million worldwide. It had the advantage of military action (a draw for older male audiences who rarely go to theaters). The appeal of the subject matter is less clear here. Apart from what promises to be a sensory experience, Nolan’s reputation and the expectation of top-level reviews add interest.
The two films will follow different paths.
“Barbie” might open to double “Oppenheimer” (perhaps $100 million to $50 million), but if those are the figures, that’s parallel success. “Barbie” should have a heavier domestic share, while Nolan has generally approached two-thirds foreign. “Oppenheimer” is handicapped by its length, combined with strong interest in seeing it on premium screens. That will limit seating initially (similar to “Avatar: The Way of Water”), but assuming it sustains interest, it could see a strong multiple. (“Dunkirk” got to $188 million from a $50 million opening weekend, less burdened by initial limitations and competition.)
The Stakes for the Summer and Beyond
Theaters need money into the till and fast. The range of suggested expectations ($300 million domestic for “Mission: Impossible,” $200 million for the other two) should be enough to improve the current situation. Last July saw a domestic gross of $1.134 billion. At those levels, combined with other films, $1.2 billion (best month since 2019) is doable.
Both “Mission: Impossible” and “Barbie” have the strongest upsides during the months above these levels (“Oppenheimer,” again, perhaps more over a longer period). If either or both overperform and push the total higher, it would be a clear win for theaters.
And over-performance by “Mission: Impossible” would provide relief that franchise fatigue can be overcome with a smart production. For “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” success would encourage more non-franchise top-end pictures, as well as deeper trust in proven creative directors like Nolan and Gerwig.
But the risk that one or more of them does less than expected also exists. Four years into the COVID-impact experience, it’s not getting any easier.'

The 3 Reasons Dead By Daylight is Still Alive After 7yrs.
Dead by Daylight by Behaviour Interactive is a multiplayer horror asymmetric survival game. Having been around for around 7 years this game was not originally as popular as it is to date. Ryan Mikes a Dead by Daylight regular who has been playing for over 3 years states: “I don’t consider myself a multiplayer gamer. I usually stick to my lane of single player based games. Dead By Daylight is an exception, however. As someone who’s usually socially anxious, I prefer smaller groups, which also means smaller in-game teams. DBD’s four-man group dynamic scratches this itch, encouraging close-knit teamwork and communication, but with enough simplicity to not overwhelm me with detail or complicated control schemes.” Bubbuhmeister a.k.a. Ryan Mikes has been playing this game for over 2,000 hours within the last 3 years. With many aspects to this game Ryan Mikes mentioned the 3 reasons Dead by Daylight has been successful for the past 7 years in an interview. These reasons include but are not limited to: constant updates, goals, and appealing to the horror fans.
Constant Updates:
The game Dead By Daylight by Behaviour Interactive has stayed relevant and popular for seven years. This company has got to include many well known Horror icons in their game. These can range from the notorious Michael Myers and Laurie Strode from the 1978 Halloween movie by John Carpenter to Resident Evil characters. “Dead by Daylight is a thrilling asymmetrical horror experience that will keep new players on their toes while providing more seasoned gamers with constant updates, features to keep gameplay fresh, and interesting Perks to change how you approach a particular match.” (Thompson-Powell, 2023) Behaviour has also kept a Fornite like battle pass for their gamers which they refer to as a Rift. With the Rift there are both free prizes and paid for prizes (as shown below.) Keeping constant updates and new creative ideas, the player base has much to anticipate for years to come. “It is always exciting to see what the developers have planned for their year-round drops; their deepened lore with each new chapter and tome.” (Ryan Mikes, 2023) There are also many events ranging from the Chinese New Year to their own personal Anniversary event to keep new cosmetics, challenges, and interactive pieces to each match evolving within the game.
2. Goals
For the player base to stay long term there most likely has to be goals for those players to achieve indefinitely. For each side of the game: Killer or Survivor, there is a page called the bloodweb. Each of these characters can tier up. Originally there were only three tiers now it has stretched a lot further. There are also holiday events held giving both sides of the game new challenges and fun new elements for a limited period of time. Constant level ups, and profile level ups allow the audience to keep the game fresh. Below shows the blood web, the Survivor screen and the level for which not only the audience is at for the role, but the characters level as well. There are also achievements that players can get by doing challenges for their specific game system related to Dead by Daylight.
3. Appealing to the Horror Fans
“ The loving tributes to classic and obscure horror franchises.” (Ryan Mikes, 2023) Dead by Daylight has collected some of the most iconic Horror characters to add to the game’s roster for players to enjoy over the years. This appeals to the horror fans and horror enthusiasts. “There’s no shortage of paid DLC expanding its roster either, though the game sensibly allows all players to play alongside any DLC characters and maps, regardless of what they own.” stated Rich Stanton in his article Dead by Daylight has fifty million players and now a boardgame adaptation. These DLCs are also filled with original characters that have been made and released by Behaviour, along with the iconic licenses. These Horror licenses are none other than Nightmare on Elm Street, Resident Evil, Stranger Things, Scream, and many more. (Below shows the Killer screen with Horror icon Michael Myers from Halloween 1978 by John Carpenter being a playable character.) Here is a link to the character roster for the game:
For more information on this asymmetrical horror multiplayer game there been have included links below to give anyone more information on the game and it’s successes and downfalls through the years. “ I’ve made some wonderful memories out of playing this game, and had many laughs out of the absurdity that can transpire. In spite of their issues and technical blunders along the way.” (Ryan Mikes, 2023)

So since no one responded to my post on what to do for New Years (thanks guys), I decided to give a top 6 Nancy Drew controversial thoughts list:
In no particular order here are some of my hot takes. It’s fine if you agree/disagree. Feel free to make your own. Will you change my mind on these takes? Probably not.
1. Liking any character does not equal simping. Social media has some weird language, but it’s concerning that liking something is equated to obsession and liking a character is equal to simping. It’s not.
2. Who cares what relationship Nancy is best for. It’s fun to call out Nancy, I know I do, but at the end of the day. I don’t care. She’s a fictional character meant to solve a mystery, her friends provide some background for the reader, so they become more engrossed in the game. Relationships are messy and a healthy relationship is entirely subjective.
3. The newer games are not bad. I’m not counting MID, although I know it’s liked by many, but from TMB to SEA, the games are not bad. They suffer from a lack of narrative direction yes, but they are not bad games. They’re amazing for puzzle lovers like me.
4. The infamous puzzles are not as awful as we think. We played many of the games when we were younger, and of course got frustrated. I know I hated the chemical puzzle in HAU when I was 12, but as an adult, I love all those puzzles. It’s easy to let our negative feelings influence how we view the puzzles today, but they’re quite fun.
5. George’s personality and interests does not make her a lesbian. Let me explain. It’s fun to ship characters and I know lots of people think George and Ryan would hit it off. I think so too! However, what makes someone gay is simply their attraction to someone of the same gender. That’s it. Labelling George as lesbian because she’s interested in sports and science, has a tomboy personality, basically anything not traditionally feminine feeds into heteronormative constructs of the patriarchy instructing how people should be. It implies that a woman who is interested in traditionally feminine things cannot also be a lesbian (which we know is wholly inaccurate). It also hurts transpeople and non binary people in that they have to “look” their gender (i.e look like a man/woman) or strategically present themselves as “not looking” like any gender in order to be accepted. George’s character is rooted in her time period where post WW1, women were breaking the molds and seeking jobs, education, etc. that were typically reserved for men. That’s why she so contrasts her cousin, Bess who adheres to the traditional model. The Nancy Drew series (at least the yellow hardback ones) was trying to challenge the traditional male dominated detective field, with three types of women: Bess, Nancy, and George to show women that it didn’t matter who they were, they could be a detective and seek adventure.
6. The “boring” games are not bad, you’re just not interested in them. Games like SSH, DED, TOT, SAW, etc. get a bad rep because they’re “boring”, but they’re not, you’re just not captivated by their subject matter, and that’s okay. It’s okay to find something boring, but that doesn’t make it bad. I love SSH because I love learning about history. I love DED, cause i love science, and I love sudoku and nonograms so of course I love SAW. And I don’t like TOT because I think tornadoes are boring to learn about.

My favorite Hellweek video so far was def the one with Michelle, simply because she is one of my fav youtubers to watch. Literally, she is such an inspiration with what she does, I kinda wish SnC will collab on her channel do so some other challenges. (everyone should check out her channel it's really good) Even though she was scared in the video with SnC, I didn't mind her being jumpy because honestly she reacted like I would react in that situation lmao. It felt more genuine than how the other girls react sometimes.
I guess this time Hellweek feels a bit off because I think SnC are burnt out from doing spooky stuff. This is, I think, the longest period they did without changing their content and it starts to feel a bit reduntant. Like after a while you should get used to certain things happening but they still scream their heads off when one of their devices goes off. Their reactions are too much for someone who does this now for over a year. I also don't like the humour they have in certain videos, I don't mind them cracking jokes from time to time but sometimes it's too much. One of the reasons I don't vibe with Ghost Files (new Ryan and Shane show on Watcher) so much, it's entertaining but when they start to insult the ghosts it's just not my thing. I loved their buzzfeed unsolved true crime way more than the supernatural stuff.
I also think SnC start to compensate with over editing their stuff, like doing essentially the same video every other day they propably think we will get bored, so they want to make it scarier by adding a bunch of unnecessary pics and videos which is kinda annoying. Idk SnC are people who never stuck long with just one thing, they always did other stuff, and now they don't have their personal channels anymore because they are stuck with the main channel. I think maybe they need a creative break from it. Last year's Hellweek was great because it was new but after an entire year of only doing essentially Hellweeks every other month I get it that it can get tiring. And now they kinda positioned themselves as youtube's ghosthunters it's hard to do anything else. (but that is just my opinion)
there's really only been like two that i thought were kinda lame or borderline not that good at all, and that was mississippi mansion and myrtles plantation. and i would say the best one was the bell witch cave. the one with michelle is tied with first place to me as well, or at least one of the higher up ones. i think she was a good addition to the video and her reactions were on par with basically any other guest. i don't think she overreacted or underreacted comparatively to the other girls they've had on there.
i don't know if it's burnout, but if i may be so bold to say this: i don't actually think hell week this year is any crazier than last year's. i think they're both on the same level, the difference is the conjuring finale vs what we all kind of assume will be a not so crazy ending with the winchester mansion. i haven't finished or even started my full review of hell week, and i do want to compare it to last year's, but i honestly feel like both are basically the same, the difference is that last year's was so new to us that it was exciting, and this year it doesn't feel that way bc of the constant content they have been giving us.
if anything, i think some of us are burned out from snc and the way they do paranormal investigating. i think that's why if they continue to do hell week, they need to up the ante or do something that they don't do usually for other series or seasons. bc otherwise, what exactly separates hell week from season one or two? nothing really. it's the same ppl, for the most part, going to similar locations like before.
i will say, idk why they started hamming up the jokes a bit this time around, but it's not working in their favor in my book. besides the fact that every place they go to they're getting told to gtfo, i think it's also really weird that they would do "reenactments" and shit like that. but then on top of that, try to make it funny. it's not even a disrespectful thing (even tho it is) it's also just… not funny. and feels very out of place. i love snc and i love their humor for the most part, and i wouldn't want them to start changing that, but this…. was a no bueno type of deal for me.
and i think their reactions are fine bc realistically they're going to these new places they've never been before and they don't know if they're gonna get evidence so i can only imagine it does freak them out regardless when they do get it. plus, it would be very jarring if they all of sudden just stop having reactions to things bc they've grown used to it. they could calm down a bit tho lol
and like i mentioned in another ask, i feel like they wanted to try out new stuff bc it's hell week, which is fine if you're not in a time crunch. but clearly they are and were. so it's a bit weird to me to pull out all the stops when you don't have the time to fully deliver it.
i plan to make a list with my hell week review of things i would love for them to start implementing or doing next year with whatever content they do come out with. god knows they won't see it, but it's nice to know that i'm just putting my thoughts out there. but one of the major things i would love for them to do is to honestly a) find time for themselves to just… not work and b) start back up the personal channels. bc i think that's where they got to get a lot of creativity out that they don't get to do on the main channel.

WPHS Girls Hoops Coach Ryan Young's Best Possible Problem
Tumblr media
It’s a unique and potential predicament, but it’s also a challenge most coaches would gladly accept. With a roster littered with exceptional talent, how does a coach take those supremely skilled players and turn them into one exceptional team? The challenge is to fit those pieces into a beautiful, completed puzzle focused on a singular picture: Winning. Wheeling Park High School girls’ basketball Head Coach Ryan Young has the fortune of dealing with this type of predicament, as his 2023-24 Patriots are filled with incredible talent up and down the lineup. Now heading into the February part of the season, the 10th-year head coach appears to have all the pieces in place to complete a puzzle that includes championship results. “It’s a good problem to have to have that much talent, but there are some challenges. I think the one thing you have to do as a coach is make everyone understand how important they are to the team,” Young said. “I think everybody plays a role, and we just try to continuously relay to the kids what their role is and how their role is helping the team. “We like to sit down with the kids periodically. Some of the top kids stat-wise, it’s easy to go through stats and talk about this is where your strengths are, this is where we need you to improve. Some kids who don’t play a lot, we just have the conversation of, this is what you need to do to play more, or this is how you are helping us even though you’re maybe not getting the minutes (others are getting). “I think it’s just important to sit down occasionally and talk to them. Not just sit down every once in a while, but continuously communicate what the kids are doing well and where they need to improve. In the end, it’s all about helping the team win.” Young’s Patriots return this weekend to the 5A championship game in the OVAC Girls Basketball Tournament, taking on Morgantown February 3 at Harrison Central at 2 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s final. Morgantown, the No. 1 seed who defeated Parkersburg South in one semifinal 61-48 earlier this week, defeated the Patriots last year in the championship game. Morgantown’s only loss during the 2023-24 season is to Wheeling Park. The Patriots, the No. 3 seed, defeated second seed Steubenville 75-43 in the other semifinal to advance. In that game, Young received significant contributions from several players, again showing the deep and diverse talent on the roster. Alexis Bordas, last year’s W.Va. Player of the Year, scored 27 points with seven rebounds and four assists against Steubenville. Bordas was joined in double figures by Lala Woods with 18 points and six rebounds, Natalie Daugherty with 16 points and five assists, and Jillian Huffman with 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Seneca Heller led the team in assists, and Merritt Delk also had some key assists. The stats jump at you from that game, especially the assist totals. Moving the ball to the open teammate involves all five players on the floor and presents many difficulties for the opposing defense. It also shows that talented players are willing to share the ball in one pursuit, winning. “We constantly use the phrase, ‘share the basketball.’ We talk about it before every game. We always talk about team assists,” Young said. “I think our kids understand for the most part what we want to try to do offensively. When we move the ball well, I think we’re almost impossible to defend. What we see when we’re doing it in practices and in games our kids see what kind of shots we get when we do do that. So, I think it helps that when we rep it in practice it carries over into games.” The Lady Patriots are loaded with talent, including two juniors who have scored over 1,000 points already. Wishing Upon a Star The starting lineup includes high-level, generational talent, and all five players have the ability to control a game. Additionally, the bench provides both experienced and youthful players who can maintain the Patriots’ lofty skill level when they enter the game. Although he normally only goes seven or eight deep in his player rotation, Young values every player on the roster for the specific skills they bring to the team. The five Patriot starters are: Junior Alexis Bordas, 5-8 guard; 2022-23 WV Player of the Year; achieved 1,000 career points during her sophomore season; leads the team with 24 points per game; averages 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. Junior Lala Woods, 5-6 guard; 2022-23 WV all-state team; achieved 1,000 career points earlier this year; second in scoring at 16.4 ppg; also averages five rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.6 steals per game. Senior Natalie Daugherty, 5-6 guard; four-year varsity letter winner; may reach 1,000 career points this season; averages 14.1 ppg; averages 3.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.8 steals per game. Senior Jillian Huffman, 5-11 forward; four-year varsity letter winner; averages 8.5 ppg, 6.2 rebounds, 1.1 assist,s and 1.3 steals. Sophomore Seneca Heller, 5-6 guard; averages 5.6 ppg, averages a team-leading 4.0 assists per game, and averages 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals. If that isn’t enough, the first two players off the bench contribute significantly as well. Merritt Delk, a 5-11 senior, and Ryleigh Hicks, a 5-6 senior, give Young plenty of flexibility with lineups and depth when needed. Delk, a four-year letter winner, averages 3.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Hicks and freshman Karringtyn Miller look to be the first players off the bench Saturday against Morgantown as Delk will miss the game because of a prior commitment. “Everyone’s going to see Lex and Lala and Natalie score points, but what doesn’t always show up on stat sheets is just how certain kids, and I’ll just use Seneca Heller because I’ve always told her this, the best compliment I can give her is she makes everyone on the team better. And she does every little thing across the board as far as stats. None are maybe going to stick out, but as coaches, we know players like her, our team wouldn’t have the success that it has,” Young said. “And I would say Merritt is very much the same way. Great energy kid off the bench who kind of does it all for us too, asked to guard multiple positions. Stuff like that you don’t see on stat sheets. “Jillian Huffman has really stepped it up this year,” Young continued. “She’s had several double-doubles. We asked her to rebound the ball more, and she’s got to guard the most physical players. She’s stepped up and done that. “You’ve got kids like Ryleigh Hicks whose minutes might be limited in games, but we just talked to her the other day about how much she helps us get ready for opposing teams by being a scout player. She never, ever complains. She goes hard 100 percent of the time.” Young took over the girls' program in 2014-2015, replacing Dee Davis. Winning the Big One Young took over the Patriots program beginning with the 2014-15 season, replacing Dee Davis. He had served for four years as an assistant coach for Meredith Dailer, who preceded Davis as head coach at The Park. Including his record this season, Young has compiled a 179-59 overall record as Wheeling Park’s head coach. He has had plenty of good players and teams during his tenure, but this current edition of his Patriots stands out. With Monday night’s victory, the Patriots currently stand at 15-3 overall and are ranked: No. 1 in the AP poll and No. 2 in the coaches poll in West Virginia class 4A. The three losses came to: South Fayette at home on opening night, at Morgantown, and at Parkersburg. Last year Wheeling Park played Morgantown five times, winning three. But Morgantown’s two wins were on the biggest stages, in the OVAC 5A championship game and the WV state 4A championship game. “The teams we lost to the last two years, these Morgantown teams, they were more experienced. Where I think this year we can’t use that excuse. We’re just as if not more experienced than they are. So hopefully that will make a difference in the end,” Young said. “Talent-wise, you could say we’re right there with Morgantown, maybe even more talented. Maybe it was the case the last couple of years. But they just had seniors that didn’t make mistakes. They were perfect puzzle pieces for what they were trying to do. “And I think that we’re more of that kind of team this year. Hopefully, that makes a difference in the end. “As far as where we want to be, I think every team can always see where they can improve and always want to be better in certain areas. I’m really happy with our kids’ effort, their focus, everything to this point. I don’t think they could have put any more into it what they did in the offseason. They’re just workhorses. “It’s paying off right now. Now we’ve just got to perform in the bigger games. I think that’s the last hurdle that we have to get over. Morgantown got us last year in the OVACs, they got us in the state finals. We won the other three contests, but they didn’t mean as much as the two that we lost. So that’s our goal now, to get over that last hurdle.” https://ledenews.com/alexis-bordas-its-all-about-the-back-of-the-rim/ https://ledenews.com/lala-woods-ready-for-another-ride-to-the-postseason-in-charleston/ Read the full article

My personal opinions on Oppengeimer.
.
.
.
Cillian Murphy cites Bhagavad Gita 11:32
- I love the way he speaks. It's simply but clarity. His voice is soothing. I even want him to read translated version as audiobook, but I shouldn't. Because I write many verses on my notebook as Devanagri excercises and listening+reading them with real Sanskrit accent, when I need to escape secular world.
- I'm totally fine when he cites it first time when he making love with Florence Pugh's character. Because Hinduism is about finding the ways to Nirvana that suit you (S*xual intercoure is included in some beliefs. As you can see the example as Karma Sutra text). BUT, my problem is Nolan does it again. Which I'm gonna say next.
.
MANSPLAINING
- Thought most of Nolan's films are good, but the biggest problem is every female characters are just props like things on set or extras, even the actresses are the big stars, he truly writes female characters as background. Like they seem important, but they aren't.
- I know that many people haven't known about Bhagavad Gita before, so ones have to introduce this in some point of this film. I think how Cillian's character introducing the text is purely CIS men's fantasy. The introduction that Oppenheimer in this film knew Sanskrit can be indicate like he is challenging himself by teaching in Dutch and tell his fellows about this.
- Also, with Emily Blunt's character. We know in the film that her character had studied Biology in university. I assume that she might know basic information about other sciences, like Physics. I'm really disappointed that she was made to ask male character explaining about it to her. That's another mansplaining. No wonder why Bojack series states that female characters in Nolan's films are just props on set or extras with few lines.
.
.
.
In conclusion, I like Oppenheimer. But I don't like that Nolan does the mansplaining things again. Their is no difference like the Barbies in Barbie ask the Kens (after Ryan Gosling's Ken messes with the Barbies' minds) about simply and basic knowledges women can learn and even master them.
This is 2023 and almost 2024. Every mansplaining has to be stopped. If the excuses is like "typically period stuffs and gender roles", I strongly disagree because that isn't real. We have numerous educated and clever women since the dawn of humankind - even scientists like Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie, Janaki Ammal, Katherine Johnson and more. Not only in Lessons In Chemistry by Apple TV+ that shows how "real female scientist" (and women of other fields) is.
Women with brains are real. And not every women want men to do mansplaining things to them, willingly.

Hitchins (16-0 7 KOs) is bearing down on the champions at 140lbs, and victory over former World title challenger Zepeda (37-3 28 KOs) would see the Brooklyn ace knocking on the door for a crack at the belts.   The 25-year-old joined promoter Eddie Hearn in visiting the School of Hard Knocks gym in Orlando to impart their wisdom on aspiring young fighters, and seeing the work done in the community by the gym reminded Hitchins of how far he’s come from humble beginnings to the edge of glory.   “I don’t really feel the pressure of headlining,” said Hitchins. “I was born to do this; I’m made for it. I think that there’s always been pressure for me for day one, but I handle it because I am confident in my ability and in who I am. I am a special fighter; at the end of the day, it’s boxing and I truly believe I’m one of the best out there.”   “Every opportunity is important, so I am looking at this fight like I have all my previous fights, it’s must-win. If you can master boxing and you can conquer the world, and that’s what I am in the sport for, to be at the very top.   “From starting out to headlining on Saturday, it’s been a crazy journey. I think back to being a kid that walked into a boxing gym after seeing Marcus Browne in the 2012 Olympics, I was probably 14, and following that was my first short-term goal to go to the Olympics.    “From there, to signing with Mayweather Promotions, fighting on Showtime, beating a former World Champion in Argenis Mendis, and now headlining my first show; it’s just destiny when you look at it.   “When you are chasing a dream, and you are on that journey, it’s easy for people to doubt you or think you aren’t that guy. There are always things on the outside that you may have to overcome, but when you have my focus, your eyes set on that goal, all you must do is focus on that because the storm always ends, and you will get to the sunshine.   “My family was homeless, I have come from a tough beginning, but I always knew boxing would be a way out. I am making sure that me and my family never have to go back to days that I couldn’t help. Period. I think I have a gift and I am using that to make like better for them. I’m able to help and the more I master my craft, I will use it to achieve more and more inside and outside the ring.” Hitchins' clash with Zepeda is part of a stacked card in Orlando, with co-main action in the form of the return of British star Conor Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) who faces Mexican Super-Welterweight Rodolfo ‘Sinaloita’ Orozco (32-3-3, 24 KOs) Jessica McCaskill (12-3 5 KOs) and Sandy Ryan (6-1 2 KOs) clashing in a unification battle for the WBA, WBC, WBO, IBO, and Ring Magazine Welterweight titles, and Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (14-0 10 KOs) press his claims for World title action at Middleweight as he tackles Steve Rolls (22-2 12 KOs).  Orestes Velazquez (7-0 6 KOs) will defend his WBA International Super-Lightweight title to headline the Before the Bell action against Mohamed Soumaoro (13-1 6 KOs). Khalil Coe (6-0-1 4 KOs) continues to rise through the ranks at Light-Heavyweight, and ‘Big Steppa’ will be looking for his third KO win of 2023 against Kenmon Evans (10-1-1 3 KOs). Super-Welterweight Jeovanny Estella (12-0 3 KOs) and Super-Flyweight Jasmine Artega (10-0-1 5 KOs) tasting action over eight rounds while Bantamweight Roberto Rivera Gomez (3-0 2 KOs) kicks the whole night off over four rounds, with all three fighters to be matched imminently.

EP137 Astrological Look at The Barbie Movie (Ft. Venus Retrograde... & Lilith!?)
During my recent research into Venus Retrograde, the Barbie movie appeared in my feed labelled ‘feminist icon’.
Naturally, my thought process was triggered – particularly with Lilith’s role in Venus’ retrograde period fresh in my mind.
Suddenly I found my self in a Barbie-shaped rabbit hole, perfectly pink and full of fascinating symbolism which resulted in this episode.
Do you think Margot Robbie was born to play Barbie on screen? Is she making the case for or against feminism, and is Lilith behind her amazing adaptability playing a series of challenging female roles?

Association Philosophy
A teacher needs to have their own philosophy because they should have a foundation to go back to in times of need. A teacher is no weak man's job: the challenge is what they drink for breakfast. But during the knee-buckling points, the way to strengthen that back is always remembering what you are teaching for.
My Goal is to touch the hearts of the students and never make one of my students feel like they are alone, I want to teach them not just English skills but life skills that will help them succeed in life.
As for my students, it is my goal for them to know that learning goes beyond what's indicated by their report cards but by improving their humanity as well.
The self-determination theory (Deci and Ryan, 1993) explains the linkage between teacher-student relationships and good school adaptation or academic motivation through the fulfillment of three basic psychological needs: the need for attachment, the need for competence, and the need for autonomy.
It means that in order to improve teacher-student relationship
Need for Attachment - Provide an open space for students
A student with problems at home should have an opportunity to open up with their second parents
Need for Competence - Create an environment where they know they have to do well
Students should know how to prepare for evaluations and assessments
Need for Autonomy - Allow students to check their improvement
A student whose lacking in some areas should be guided to be better with them knowing where to improve
Since this philosophy is built on proper relationships, the way to test this is to make sure that all are emotionally healthy and can easily express their feelings.
During Homeroom period, Students are asked what they thought of their day and what challenges they might have encountered
The teacher should have an open line where students can easily approach them for any help
Discussions should have an abundance of class sharing where ideas can be bounced off of each other and improve the connection between the class.
What students should gain about this discipline is the realities of life and how important it is to have a good connection with people. “No Man is an island” should be a recurring thought process. What might pose itself a problem is the reluctance of the learners to open up. I think the strategy is to form a connection first.
A student who might experience struggles with Math will inadvertently show their weakness. The teacher should approach the student with no condescending manner and rely on their observation as to what might be its cause. It should end with a step towards proper diagnosis if it is an intellectual problem or environment re-evaluation if it is on the nurture aspect.
The way to improve this style of teaching is to maintain mindfulness with your learners and remain observant to possible conflicts that may arise or find ways to hone simple connection.
Observations of the seat plan should be enacted, such that if one area is rowdy, the teacher should take into account what might be the cause of the noise, and how to fix that without putting the students down.

Rising Nursing Shortages are Causing a Nationwide Healthcare Crisis – How Using a Well-Designed Mobile Employment App Can Help
The following is a guest article by Suzanne Arroyo, Senior Content Strategist, and Christopher Ryan, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer at Avionté.
With large-scale nursing strikes happening across the nation, one thing is for certain: nurses feel overworked. The global pandemic has only amplified a growing problem – there aren’t enough RNs to care for a continuous rise in patients.
And the situation is intensifying. By 2030, one million nurses are expected to retire. The healthcare system will continue to be put under pressure by an aging nursing workforce, increased turnover, and a maturing baby boomer population that needs more complex care. The rising nurse-to-patient ratio is quickly leading to a nationwide crisis as more than 80% of bedside nurses cite extreme burn-out levels, resulting in lower patient care quality and higher morbidity rates.
With nursing shortages looming, rapid onboarding has become a major focus for the healthcare industry to help hire and retain nurses. So how can hiring managers solve this problem? Though they may not think about how their technology makes them attractive to potential employees, they should – especially when faced with critical talent shortages.
Why Medical HR is in Dire Need of a Technological Reboot
Despite the desperate need to attract and retain more nurses, hospitals and medical staffing agencies still make it difficult for people to get employed. Healthcare HR is vastly behind the curve in technology and still relies heavily on old-school, paper-based transactions. But with more challenging workplace expectations, medical providers have less patience for a tedious employment process and are increasingly frustrated by hiring and onboarding procedures that waste time and make it harder to quickly place.
If you’re involved in healthcare staffing, try this exercise. Put yourself in the shoes of a potential candidate at your organization and imagine what it’s like to go through the experience of getting hired. Are the steps clear or confusing? Is your candidate’s time being valued? What does the technology you’re using (or not using) say about your organization? If you’re not providing a good hiring experience, then it may be an early sign that you’re not a good place to work for. So, what can you do?
With all the stress that nurses face, hospitals and medical staffing agencies need to look to mobile technology to make application, credentialing, onboarding, and placement as seamless as possible.
Remember, when it comes to attracting a potential hire, time is not your friend. You have a limited period to engage the candidate, get their information, move them through all employment steps, and close the deal before they go elsewhere. Anything that elongates this process lowers the chances that they’ll join you, even after you extend an offer. But anything that simplifies and removes unnecessary stress from the experience will make your company an employer of choice.
This is why mobile technology is key in helping hospitals increase and retain staff, lower nurse-to-patient ratios, and create better working conditions for RNs.
What Should You Look for in Adopting a Mobile Employment Strategy?
Luckily, there are tools that give employers the ability to execute an effective mobile strategy for their employees. The right technology supports your hiring managers and candidates through the entire talent journey – from application to onboarding, job placement, and redeployment.
Research consistently shows that applicants value speed, transparency, and personal control over their schedules. Imagine if your nurses could apply, get certified and placed, select their most desired shifts, manage their own timekeeping, and access their pay information all in one place – from the convenience of their mobile device?
Hospitals and medical facilities desperately need to retain good nurses, and the best way to earn employee loyalty is by creating an efficient talent enablement process that keeps your nurses engaged throughout their entire employment journey.
Remember Your Hiring Managers – Their Time is Valuable too
Hospitals and medical staffing agencies should also consider how mobile apps can help create a more satisfying and valuable experience for hiring managers and recruiters.
A modern, mobile application allows hiring managers to direct each step of the employment journey with a simple click of a button. This can save them time often wasted on repetitive communications or having to use multiple systems to manage the end-to-end employment process.
By eliminating administrative stress, your hiring managers can focus on building personal relationships with potential candidates to provide them with a better employment experience – rather than wasting valuable time managing clerical tasks.
And for healthcare recruiters who manage a contingent workforce, having your providers’ information archived for future employment purposes can lead to speedier redeployment, greatly increasing time-to-fill.
But, most importantly, by compressing the time frame between initial contact with an applicant and first day at work, hiring managers and recruiters can double the yield in your talent funnel. All of this goes a long way in helping hospitals certify and place nurses with greater speed. This is especially crucial when hospitals must quickly staff to maintain a suitable nurse-to-patient ratio to ensure proper medical care.
Mobile Employment Apps are Essential in Solving the Nursing Shortage
The healthcare industry is critically behind in technology – contributing to the already stressful work conditions nurses face. Many job candidates are lost between application and onboarding. If you make it harder for providers to apply, get placed, and control their schedules, they won’t be loyal to your company or agency, leading to further turnover and increased shortages.
Consumer expectations are being reset by mobile technology in all other aspects of people’s lives. Why should employment be any different? It’s hard to attract good candidates to your institution when your processes say you’re overly bureaucratic and don’t value employees’ time.
Healthcare employers who use mobile technology to effectively manage the entire employment lifecycle from application to placement and beyond have a significant leg up on medical institutions that don’t. Nothing provides a better signal for what it’s like to work for a company than the process it takes to join them. And this is where a well-designed mobile app can really help.
Having the right mobile employment technology at your fingertips will not only speed time-to-fill, but it will also positively enhance your brand by demonstrating that you’re up to speed with new technology and are easy to work with.
Given the dire situation caused by growing nursing shortages, the use of technology to build a better hiring process and work environment is no longer just a nice to have – it’s absolutely essential for the proper functioning of the healthcare industry moving forward.

Ok so now that I know where you stand on my beloved SNC, my goofy-ass millennial older brothers Ryan and Shane, real life cryptid Zachary Bagels, always reliable but rather staid OG Ghost Hunters… I simply must hear your take on other ghost shows. Did/do you watch other ghost shows? How do you feel about Josh or Twin Paranormal or Kindred Spirits or Destination Fear or ecetera? How do you feel SNC stand out? Sorry for asking about all this spooky October tea in December but your take on Zak was so delightful!
I actually really don't watch any paranormal television nowadays- if my TV is on, it's either soap operas, game shows, or HGTV, cause that's where my 900 year old head is at- so I don't know much about what's on now.
I did watch Jack Osbourne's paranormal show (which I completely forgot the name of) and I did actually enjoy it (even though yes, I forgot the name). I don't know how much of it was legit, but he seemed to be a healthy balance of skeptical and a believer, and he is a surprisingly calm man (considering who his parents are), so that's a plus.
Other than that, I haven't really watched much of anything in the recent paranormal TV world. As far as the older stuff goes- before Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures, there was a little cultural phenomenon called "MTV's Fear." That show was my life for a solid year right around the turn of the millennium.
It does NOT hold up well today, but it was fun for the time period we were in. If you like the challenges snc do now, then boy is this show the show for you!
As far as youtubers go- eh. Haven't found one I enjoy as much as snc yet. Josh is ok, but he tends to over explain sometimes, and I feel like his true niche is the exploring videos. I saw a bit of a Twin Paranormal video once, but couldn't get into it. They were yelling a lot. I don't know what was happening, but there was a lot of yelling, and I need to get to know someone first before I can determine whether I feel like sitting through their yelling or not. If you have a video of theirs that I should watch, please let me know. Elton and the Overnight channel can go fuck themselves in every conceivable way. Steve and Dylan are cool on their own, but their videos are cut more for the informative vs the entertaining, and while that's totally awesome, I need to be in the mood for it. You know how I feel about Shane and Ryan, lol.
I think what makes snc stand out are two things: 1. Their charisma, personalities, and chemistry with one another. People watch for THEM, people like THEM. The Ghost stuff is just a bonus, and 2. The way they put their videos together. The pacing, storytelling, editing- it usually feels so much larger and more produced, even though it's just them and their camera and their editing equipment. Not knocking any of the others by saying that, btw, but snc have such a distinctive editing and filming style that you could put one of their videos and front of someone and start it at a part where neither Sam or Colby appears on screen, and that person could probably identify it as an snc video. Idk what it is, but they have a unique style.
And hey, this is a 24/7, 365 spooky blog, so feel free to ask spooky themed asks any old time!

Mixed week for North End in this busy schedule
A mixed week for North End on the field with and outstanding win at Norwich last Saturday afternoon followed by a disappointing reversal at Ashton Gate on Wednesday evening. The 3-2 win at Carrow Road was the outstanding result of the season so far and led to optimism for Wednesday evening when a win would have put us in a play off spot. However a poor performance meant that North End go into this weekend and next weeks fixtures sitting just outside the top six. The next seven days sees Stoke City and Alex Neil visit Deepdale on Saturday afternoon followed by a second trip of the season to Huddersfield on Tuesday evening. Four points is a minimum from these two fixtures if North End want to challenge the play offs and I think that is very possible if North End can shake off the cobwebs from Wednesday evening.
The win at Norwich last Saturday surprised everyone a little bit as the Canaries were unbeaten in ten but after going behind North End came back into the game and inspite of the home side leveling with fifteen minutes to go it was Troy Parrott who made sure that we brought the points home with a deflected shot ten minutes from time. The spirit North End showed down in Norfolk was particulalrly pleasing to see and certainly made the journey home more pleasant for the 525 who made the 500 round trip to cheer Ryan Lowe and the boys on.
In BS3 on Wednesday evening it was a case of after the Lord Mayors show as North End lost 1-2 to a very average Bristol City side. We never really took control of the game apart from about fifteen minutes in the second half and with the crucial midfield battle lost we were always going to be up against it. Although North End fought back from a goal down when Andrew Hughes equalised, the home side won the game on the stroke of full time with a second goal from Atkinson and to be honest you couldnt really deny the home side the win as they had clearly been the better team on the evening.
Saturday sees Stoke City visit Deepdale and with it the return of Alex Neil for the first time. Some fans still hold a candle for the Scot but to be honest I thought that the Covid pandemic actual extended his stay and if fans had been in the ground then I think his departure would have been at least five months earlier. Stoke sit three points behind North End and have won four and drawn four of their thirteen games and have had a couple of decent results recently. Off the field I hope Alex Neil get the kind of reception his work at Deepdale deserves and I for one will be applauding the ex North End manager. with a crowd of 17,000 expected it is a great opportunity for the fans to really get behind the boys in the middle of this very busy period of matches.
With the games coming thick and fast the bandwagon continues as North End visit the John Smiths Stadium on Tuesday evening to take on Huddersfield Town. North End had a great 4-1 win in West Yorkshire in the fist round of the Carabao Cup and another result like that would go down very well. I think next Tuesday will be a tougher game that the League Cup game but I think this is a very winable game for North End with the Terriers only winning three league games so far this season, although two of these wins have been in their last four games. Huddersfield sit twenty third in the Championship as we speak so they desperately need the points. I think this will be a real Roses battle with North End hoping to have over 2,000 cheering them on.
And finally this week:- I saw some negative comments on Social Media regarding North Ends following at Bristol on Wednesday evening which I thought were bang out of order. 464 on a Wednesday with a cost of living crisis and a trip to Norwich the previous Saturday was not a bad turnout in my opinion. You dont get points for having the highest crowds or the biggest following - the only matrix that counts is the league table and we are doing ok in that respect.

Greetings shippers & readers Aaaand we're back once again on a fine Autumn evening to remind you that the season of shyan in film is still on-going and in case you missed it, last June, we banded together with a few of our members and wrote them a challenge that states: Pick a movie; any movie. It could be your favourite or one you think deserves better. Doesn’t have to be Hollywood; it can be an international film or in a different language altogether. Just pick one and make it Shyan. Basically, take your chosen movie, mix in fandom and run with it! You can stick as close or as far as you like, you can use it as a sort of prompt, or if you decide that you love the storyline but you think it needs more queer drama or more comedy, or a side-story needs more flushing out. Title: New and Used Boos Rating: R Excerpt:
There’s something vaguely familiar about this guy. Shane can’t quite put his finger on it. He would’ve assumed a repeat customer, but it’s obvious he’s not a local. For one thing, it’s fifty degrees outside, positively balmy for November in Chicago, and the dude’s wearing a full-on peacoat and scarf like he’s been trekking across the Arctic tundra instead of up Fullerton. Shane watches the man covertly from his perch on the stool. The guy is poking around in the section about paranormal investigation, a look of open curiosity on his face. He picks up a book about orbs and starts flipping through it. Before he can stop himself, Shane says, “Oh god, not that one.” The guy looks up. “Sorry?” Shane clears his throat again. “You don’t want that one. That one’s shit.” The man cocks his head. He replaces the book and moves his hand a few spines to the right, pulling another book out. “How ‘bout this one?” “Nope. No. Uh, sorry. That one also sucks.” “This one?” Shane barks a laugh when the man shows him the front of a tattered copy of Detritus or Dearly Departed? Life After Life Through Orbs. A solid seventy-five percent of the books in his shop are pure grade-A bologna, a statistic he’s proud of, but the orb stuff takes the cake. “I mean, it’s your four dollars and eighty eight cents. I’ll take any amount of money from the gullible without a moment of guilt.” The man wanders close enough to read the little nameplate on the counter, which has Shane’s credentials listed, such as they are: Shane Madej, Owner and Proprietor. Up close he is good-looking in a way that compels Shane to keep looking at him. “Do you sell any books that don’t suck? In your bookstore, that you own?” The man gives Shane a glint of a grin, and Shane gets that brain itch of certain familiarity again. He’s sure they’ve met before. Shane considers the question. “Got a mint condition first edition Dorothy Sayers in last week. At least detective novels are honest about being fictional.” The guy throws his head back and laughs out loud. “Why do you sell books about this stuff if you don’t even believe in it?” It’s the laugh that does it, big and contagious, so Shane has to laugh too. The guy’s teeth are large and even and starkly white—not Midwest white—and it’s then, at last, that Shane realizes who he’s talking to. Because that’s a distinctive smile. A famous smile. It’s Ryan Bergara. Ryan Bergara, star of Source of Fortune, the titular duke in Duke of Payback—rumored to be in the conversation for the lead in the Mission Impossible reboot, which Shane can’t even talk about, he’s so excited—is in his poky little bookshop, examining the back of a book called Haunt Him, Honey: Ten Steps to Achieving a Spiteful Afterlife. Shane panics and fucks it right up. “Oh my god, you’re—” Bergara’s cheerful expression flickers. He looks away. When he looks back there’s something smoothed-over and blank about his face, his posture subtly different too: tense and watchful, like he’s preparing for this encounter to turn into something else. Shane always imagined he’d be very chill and cool if he ever met a famous person, but apparently what he would do—is currently doing—is turn into a squeaky, stammering mess and stick his own foot directly in his mouth. “—you’re an orb guy,” he finishes lamely, diverting course at the last possible second. He’s not subtle about it, but a detectable micro-expression of relief passes over the other man’s face anyway. It must be exhausting, being a celebrity. Everyone watching you, and thinking they know you, and molding a routine errand into a dinner party anecdote even as you’re standing right in front of them trying to buy a stupid book. God knows Shane’s doing exactly that, but the least he can do is pretend like he’s not. “I’m not an ‘orb guy,’” Bergara says, rolling his eyes in a hint of playful defensiveness. He frames the offending phrase with elaborate finger-quotes. “I just think they’re cool.” “They’re dust,” Shane says. “We’ve got five orbs in here with us right now, and it’s not because spirits are gracing us
with their presence from the beyond. It’s because I haven’t cleaned in here since August.” “Yeah, it’s pretty gross.” Bergara runs his finger along the shelf and shows Shane the thin layer of dust coating his fingertip, but he’s turned on that megawatt smile again. Shane wonders if it’s, like, real. Could it be veneers? Is that what veneers look like? “Well, buy something and maybe I’ll be able to afford some Pledge.” “Okay,” Bergara says, and he holds up yet another orb book, just as trash as the first few. “I’ll get this one.” “God. Not that one.”

And the Thunder Rolls
This is the first of my Glee Summer Bang fics...but I decided it was too gloomy.
It is a Klaine Break-Up Fic and this Not Klaine or Blaine friendly.
Takes place right after the end of Junior Year:
The crash of thunder shook the house.  Kurt looked out to the pouring rain.  It was nearly pushed horizontal by the wind. “Very Blustery, my ass. Hurricane force winds would have been a better description,” Kurt muttered as he watched chaos out the window.   Kurt still felt that being out in the storm would be preferable than where he was currently at, that the chaos outside would be safer and somehow 'less' than the chaos inside his being as he listened to Blaine. Lightening ripped through the sky, near enough for  Kurt to just see the light of the flash and not a actual bolt  and for the thunder to roll right after it and actually shake the house. He wondered if Finn knew he had a flashlight in his room.  Rachel didn't like power outages. Kurt leaned closer to the window to see if he could see where it might have landed.
“Kurt, I don't think you are listening to me.” Blaine whined behind him. “Do I need to go get Finn and Rachel and have them listen to this as well?  I am setting out guidelines for how I want our summer to be and you just aren't really paying attention to me.  Stop looking out the window and look at me, the boyfriend. I am beginning to think you don't actually love me at all.  You are not at all focused where you need to be focused.” “Blaine, I love you.  I told you that just a few days ago.  And yes, you are my boyfriend.  But that doesn't give you permission to dictate my summer.” Light brightened the whole room again and thunder shook the house and Kurt wished it would just hit the house.  Maybe stop what he suspected would be a defining moment to everything for the whole of the rest of his life. Blaine huffed. “I'm not dictating your summer.  I'm just letting you know how things need to be so we can see each other more often during the summer. My dad got me this job, you know, and it is Important that I am my best during the time I am working and performing.  Important people might be watching, you know.  Nila said that Jason, one of the boys who left the year before I could perform at all, got scouted and got a modeling job and a job as a back-up singer for a band.  That could be me this year, but only if I'm at the top of my game.  I I can only be at the top of my game when I know you are focused on me. You need to know when to keep yourself free to come see me and visit me. If you don't do this for me like I want it done, well then, I'm afraid we will just not be able to see each other at all.” “And I told you I am not going to be going to the amusement park and paying 80  to 100 bucks a day just to see you on your break periods, especially if I'm not 'allowed' to spend the rest of the time enjoying the park.  You can come here on your days off or I can meet you at your place on your days off.” “You cannot go to my place.  I mean...I just haven't exactly told my folks I have a boyfriend yet...so you'll have to wait for that.  And my days off are all booked with family stuff or other things I need to do.  If you love me, you'll come see me on the days I listed at the park.  It is the only acceptable option.  I just do not understand why you are having a problem with this.  A good boyfriend would be perfectly willing to do this for me, I'll have you know. And it's not like I'm asking more than others who work there have.  Nila's boyfriend was there three days a week last summer. Matt and Ryan both worked there, so I guess they don't really count, but it was so unfair watching those guys making out and whatnot and yet the rest of us had to just make due.  Now, this year, I'VE got the boyfriend and so you need to come to the park so I can have good breaks too.  You need to come on the days I listed earlier for certain and also whenever I text that the day would be a good day for you to be there. I NEED you to be there for me, Kurt.  I need to be able to show the others that I'VE got a boyfriend and that he does what I ask of him. But, you also can't like hang out with anyone, or talk to anyone...I mean, you are great and all but you just don't exactly talk about the kinds of things the other kids who work at the park do and so I need you to remember that...but also you need to make sure they know you are only at the park for me...you'll need to sit off to the side of where ever I am, just smiling and making eyes at me.” Kurt closed his eyes and breathed deeply. The lightening hit again and the thunder rolled and the lights in the house flickered and Kurt heard Rachel screech from Finn's room. There had been nothing in any of Blaine's demands for summer about wanting to spend time with Kurt, himself.  Just about wanting to have the boyfriend be there to be seen.  And curtailing as much joy as Blaine possibly could in his demanded excursions. “Blaine. You are being unreasonable.” “I am not. I am being perfectly reasonable. Boyfriends show up to support their significant other when their significant other wants them to, in whatever manner asked.  That is why people have boyfriends and girlfriends.  To have them there when they want them to be there for them.  To show off.  And if you do things the way I told you you need to, everyone will see how devoted you are to me, and to me alone.  It will do wonders for what the others think of me, you there just sitting and looking at me and not even thinking of anything other than me. But, don't try too hard.  And like, don't practice making sexy faces or longing faces or anything.  You don't do sexy.  You do longing OK, so maybe stick to staring at me longingly. It will be cute. Then it will be perfect. I mean, Nila's boyfriend just stopped by to make out with her when lines were too long for rides he wanted to ride, he didn't focus on her only.  Just think how jealous she will be when MY boyfriend just pays attention to Me in such a cute way.”   “No” The flash of lightening hit close enough that even the air in the house felt charged.  The thunder was nearly deafening. It wasn't loud enough to cover Blaine's scream. “What do you mean 'No'? You are my boyfriend, you can't just say no.” “I did just say No. No. I am not going the amusement park, at over 100 bucks a pop when you add travel and food, multiple days over the summer just to sit and stare at you...it is just not happening. There are many reasons why....not the least of which is I would be bored out of my mind. I don't have the time, or money, or inclination to be some sort of living statue for you to use to boost you ego in some sort of ego war with your co-workers. I have work, too, Blaine. And I NEED my paychecks that I get over the summer to be able to enjoy my school year.  They pay for my clothing, any time spent shopping or out to the movies or dinner or coffee or anything else fun.  I could maybe do ONE trip to the amusement park to see you...and to enjoy the park when you can't be with me and thus get my money's worth. I can not go at least twice a week every week all summer long, with a third or maybe even fourth trip to see you on demanded days at a texts notice.” “But Kurt, if you loved me...” And Kurt saw the next bolt of lightening hit.  It hit a transformer on one of the street light poles the block over and half a block down. The thunder shook the house as the lights went out. Rachel screamed like Finn was stabbing her or something.  Finn started screaming as well, telling her to calm down.  Kurt was glad, though, because with the power out Blaine could not see the tears running down his face, with with how Kurt was standing. “I guess I don't love you then.  Not if that is what you think Love requires of me. ” Kurt said, turning to look at Blaine instead of a flames spouting from the blown transformer.  He could already hear the sirens of the police and fire trucks responding to it. “And if you loved ME, and not just the notion of a boyfriend, you would have never demanded any of what you have today.” “Of course I love you.” “No, you don't.  Because if you did, you would know me well enough to not have come here and said any of what you have said in the last hour. You would know me well enough to know I can't afford your plan in the first place.  We don't have that kind of money. You would have listened to me enough to know that I will have a full 40 hour week at the garage every week, and will have hours of work at other places as well.  You would have known about other demands on my time over the summer.  You would have realized I would like to be able to do things with you that I would like to do as well, like go  swimming or go to play mini-golf. Or take you to the car shows with me and have you ride in the parades at the fairs with me.  You would know that I don't like just sitting doing nothing for long periods of time. But you don't seem to know or care about any of that, so you must not actually love me.” “Now Kurt, stop being hysterical and silly. You know none of that is true. You might work at the garage but what do you actually do there, huh? Sweep?  No one needs you there, and what else do you really have to do...that is as important or more important than me?  It is just, face it, your time and my time are not equal.  My folks plans are important.  I need to be there and show up with acceptable company, so  those periods of time are out.  My work...performing is hard, Kurt and the rest of the work at the park is just as difficult.  Do you even know what it is like to have to deal with parents who are upset because their kid is too small for a ride?  That is so much more challenging than anything you might be doing.” “And that just proves you don't actually love me at all.  Blaine, as soon as this storm calms, you need to go home.  Have a great summer. Maybe if I get in touch with Jeff or Nick or anyone else from Dalton, I'll have them say Hello from me, but I won't be getting hold of you for a while.  I need a clean break.  And you need someone else, who can love you like you think love works.” “What are you talking about?” “I am breaking up with you.  This isn't what I want from a relationship. It isn't what I need.” Kurt turned around again and stared out the window.  The lightening strike was far enough away that the whole sky didn't seem to light up with it.  Kurt counted a full Mississippi before he heard the thunder. Blaine was still talking to him, trying to tell him he couldn't break up with him and  how mistaken Kurt was and how Kurt was purposefully being difficult and misunderstanding everything and making a big show and fuss about things. The rain was coming down more vertically again, just as hard and violently, but in a more natural angle and Kurt could tell the fire was out over where the lightening had hit.  He could see a vehicle from the power company over in the area.  The chaos was calming...and things seemed to be easing up.  Kurt wouldn't be surprised if within the next half hour the storm had settled into an steady gentle rain. Oddly enough, he rather felt like he'd settled into an oddly calm and settled state as well.  He wondered if he'd feel bad latter, if he'd feel more crushed and upset at the end of his first relationship, but for now...he felt like he was easing into a peaceful gentle state of being. Not sunshine yet, but the knowing that it could be soon.
