Twins Rout D-Backs 12-1!
Diamondbacks 1 Twins 12 W-Maeda (3-6) L-Nelson (6-6)
The Minnesota Twins bats have come alive in the second half. They might have had their best performance tonight against the Diamondbacks. Arizona struck first in the second inning as Lourdes Gurriel knocked a Kenta Maeda splitter out to left for a solo homer. This put the D-Backs up by a run, but not for long. Matt Wallner started the bottom of the second with a single and Willi Castro tripled him home. Ryan Jeffers followed and crushed a Ryne Nelson fastball out to right for a two-run homer. This put the Twins up 3-1 after two innings of play. The Twins offense got back to work in the third as Max Kepler lined a one-out single to right and Carlos Correa did the same. Matt Wallner doubled home a run, Willi Castro hit a sac fly to left, and Ryan Jeffers doubled home another run. The Twins had a 6-1 lead after three frames. The bats stayed hot in the fourth with a Michael Taylor blast off Joe Mantiply. Eddie Julien reached on an infield single and Max Kepler lined a base hit to right. Carlos Correa hit an RBI groundout to second to put the Twins up 8-1. Ryan Jeffers added a solo homer in the fifth and Max Kepler had a solo shot in the sixth. The Twins added two more in the ninth and the pitching staff did the rest. Kenta Maeda threw six solid innings and Jordan Balazovic had two scoreless frames. Jovani Moran got in and out of trouble in the ninth as the Twins picked up the series win at home tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda was solid tonight as he threw six very good innings. He allowed a run on two hits with seven strikeouts. Jordan Balazovic threw up two zeroes and Jovani Moran walked the bases loaded only to get out of it in the ninth. Eddie Julien, Max Kepler, Matt Wallner, and Ryan Jeffers had three hits each to lead the offense. The Twins hit 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. It was awesome to see Joe Mauer inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame. There were so many memories that came up and he played right when I started watching tons of games for the Twins. The Twins gained a game on the Indians, who lost to the White Sox. Tomorrow, Zac Gallen faces Dallas Keuchel in the series finale.

Quite possibly the finest start of Ryne Nelson's young career came right when the team needed it.

My Collection Basis In Text
Before I begin, I'm not a good writer, I just jotting down stuff in my head. So please bear with me.
So I start off this with a card, that speaks to me. It is a 1968 Topps game card of Puerto Rican legend, Roberto Clemente.
Clemente was not a player, I got to watch because his career was before my memory started saving. However, Clemente's career live on in the fandom of my father.
Tumblr media
My dad is a proud Puerto Rican man, who is very proud to be a Pirates fan, due to Clemente. My dad would tell me little pieces about his career but never got the whole scope of Clemente's work.
I ended up learning this on my own.
Now I can appreciate what Clemente did on the field as well as what he has done as a man.
As many know he die on his way to help out the people in Nicaragua after an earthquake. This action was never forgotten in his legacy. Today MLB has an award for the humanitarian of the year know as the Clemente award. This year (2021) a player from each team can be chosen to represent this honor, guys like Miguel Cabrera, Max Scherzer, Salvador Perez, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nelson Cruz. These are just a few of the names.
But to get back to the card.
The reason, I like this card so much is more than just the noble player that is on the card. It is the link between this player and my father. My dad is alive and still bashing my Phillies, just want to clarify. But when I look at the Clemente card I see my dad in his younger days.
Not exactly his twin but skin tone, facial expression, and the way my dad wore his hat.
This card also inspired me to try and finish the set.
The set is my "adventure set", I told myself that like the way I got this card I have to get the others.
This card I got from a flea market vendor, and I was able to get a few more from him before he stop showing up to this flea market. The other cards I have in the set were from card shows, I have my checklist and ask dealers, if they have any.
As of this post date I am 3 away from getting the set complete, by only finding them in the "wild" no ebay or card selling sites. This is why it is called the adventure set.
2 of the 3 will be hard to find because they are Frank Chance & Peters (I forget his first name). Because they are not big stars, however Harmon Killebrew should be very possible and I already have a lead from my last card show.
This 1968 Roberto Clemente Topps card is helps inspire me to collect, be a better man, and appreciate the time I have with my kids. Because maybe Ryne Sandberg, my baseball hero will remind my kids of me.
