[BECAUSE it's sth i've been thinking about a LOT lately.] bollywood started out very misogynistic. every time i watch an old movie, while i acknowledge the exceptions, most of them either show a woman who'd sleep with anyone for money or show a woman who's literally just a slave, that's IT. it took YEARS for it to make movies that don't show women in a bad light, that actually appreciate us. and apparently that lasted like, 10 years? (on and off, yk, in total) because now, everyone seems more interested in movies that have women as an accessory, looking pretty, not playing any active role, while her man does his job. *hearts and fire* while good, unproblematic movies get criticised for having "unrealistic expectations" or "too much feminism". they're so obsessed with all that "alpha" "sigma" "masculine" bullshit. it's so. pathetic. so fucking infuriating. yeah-
hard agree. like the english vinglish, queen, kahaani era was truly the peak of women centric bollywood movies. after that even though such movies were still being made, they shifted from being empowering to being condescending. like if you are a strong independent woman, then you must drink and hook up with random men and wear revealing clothes and whatnot. the feminism became too focused on the urban young woman and lost its essence in my opinion. like i can name so many popular recent film/series (4 more shots, thank you for coming, veere di wedding) which are just trying so hard to be relatable that they end up feeling tone deaf and people start hating them and going back to the same old bullshit heroine is an accessory movies (this also means that the actual good movies (qala, bulbull, etc) just go under the radar which is equally irritating 🙄).
as far as the sigma male thing goes, i am so so tired of these directors and actors showing toxic behaviour on screen without showing its fucking consequences. like the man can do anything and the director will make sure that he has a happy ending cause true love is obviously all about forgiveness and accepting everything even if it hurts you. salman khan, akshay kumar, srk, ranbir kapoor, literally every hero rn is guilty of accepting and promoting such scripts. like even in jawaan, there were 5-6 actresses yet srk had all the fkn screentime. i get he's a big actor but god?? give the actresses something other than a song???? maybe a few emotions??? don't even get me started on kabir singh and animal and even pushpa. 🙄

A teenage Muslim convert who became radicalised online during lockdown was 24 hours away from carrying out a terrorist attack when he was arrested, police have revealed.
Matthew King, 19, carried out reconnaissance on a police station and an army barracks in east London and researched buying knives and a sword on the internet.
After covertly taking photographs of police officers standing outside a magistrates court, King posted a message on Snapchat which read: “Target acquired.”
Commander Dom Murphy from Scotland Yard’s SO15 counter terrorism command said he believed King had been as little as 24 hours away from launching a low sophistication terrorist attack when he was arrested on May 18 last year at his home in Wickford, Essex.
Earlier this year, King admitted one count of preparing a terrorist act and at a hearing at London’s Old Bailey on Friday was sentenced to life with a minimum term of six years.
King, who lived with his mother and two sisters, had a troubled childhood. He was expelled from school and referred to a special educational unit in Basildon.
He converted to Islam after spending hours online while isolated during the Covid lockdown.
His mother said it initially helped him have some focus, but he quickly became more extreme in his views, questioning how his sisters dressed and calling them “slags”.
King soon became obsessed with Islamic State and began researching notorious terrorists including Mohammed Emwazi aka Jihadi John and Salman Abedi, the Manchester Arena suicide bomber.
In December 2021, King registered with an online knife supplier and made inquiries about purchasing a sword.
He also bought military-style equipment including special ops glasses, a balaclava and technical combat gloves.
In online conversations with a Muslim girlfriend, King discussed wanting to travel to Syria to become a martyr and spoke of how he dreamed of torturing and killing British and US soldiers.
‘Kill all non-Muslims’
He also changed his WhatsApp status to: “Kill all non-Muslims wherever you see them.”
King, who had been attending a mosque in Chelmsford, Essex, was asked to leave after posting messages on social media praising jihad.
His behaviour became so concerning that the police received numerous reports from members of the public including calls to the anti-terror hotline.
In April 2022, he carried out internet searches for Usman Khan and Karim Butt who were responsible for separate terror attacks in London in 2017.
At an Eid event in Southend he spoke about the importance of jihad and picked up a water pistol and squirted a community support officer.
With help from MI5, counter terror police mounted a covert surveillance operation on King and observed him carrying out hostile reconnaissance on police stations in Stratford, east London.
On May 17, King was spotted scoping out the 7th Battalion The Rifles barracks in West Ham and the following day, fearing he was just hours from launching an attack, counter-terror police raided his home and arrested him.
Commander Murphy praised the actions of those who had reported King and said lives had probably been saved.
He said: “I know public confidence is a real challenge for the Met at the moment but this is a story about people being saved from a terrorist attack by members of the public.
“If it had not been for the public reports our investigation would have been all the more challenging. It’s thanks to that support from the public that we were able to keep the public safe.”
When King was arrested he told officers: “I don’t believe in the UK law, the only law I believe in is the law of Allah.”
Mr Murphy said while he had pleaded guilty to the offences, King had shown no remorse since his arrest and had not changed his mindset.

A guilty pleasure of sorts (I mean, lets be honest - many people would argue that any Uday Chopra movie that you don't outright hate - aside from maybe Dhoom - is nothing more than a guilty pleasure). I've enjoyed this movie since the first time I saw it - the reuniting of the Mohabbatein duo (Jimmy Sheirgill/Uday Chopra) plus the guest appearance of another Mohabbatein 'star' (Shamita Shetty), alongside Sanjana (aka Tulip Joshi) and Bipasha Basu ... what a random starcast, looking back at it now.
But, at the time, it resulted in a lot of fun, some entertaining songs, the typical rom/com romantic drama story of man in love with girl who is due to marry someone else - but in this case, both of our mains are complete oafs and don't realize the feelings they have for each other. Or, as we find out later, they maybe have realized - they're just too dense to tell the other person (or anyone else, even - aside from him telling his roommate, who literally hauls her ass over to help him out, only for him to back out of his plan because someone cries) and would therefore rather ruin (okay, maybe not that - Jimmy's character didn't seem like he was a bad person, but he was so awfully close to becoming Love Aaj Kal's - the first one, that is - Rahul Khanna; instead he lucks out and just ends up becoming KKHH's Salman Khan) their lives.
This possibly may have been the start of "Jimmy doesn't get the girl," an overarching theme of many of Jimmy's many movies that seemed to reach it's peak in the Tanu Weds Manu series - where he not only initially gets left behind by Kangna, but then later finds himself again left behind by not only Kangna, but also Kangna's lookalike Kangna.
But yeah, it starts here when he gets engaged to a girl who loves, but ignores said love, her best friend. That's just a recipe for disaster, and as worst case plays out for him, you just wonder if maybe something will work out with him and Sanju's friend/roommate (likely no longer a roommate). Because he's nice enough to deserve something good.
Of course, life doesn't give a shit about that - if anything, it probably means he's just destined to a lifetime of sadness. But that's a story for another never.
I really like this movie, even after repeated rewatches.

GJF calls for implementing the ruling against a Saudi minister for a major corruption case
The Emirate of Dubai’s Court of First Instance issued a verdict on November 25th in Case 127/2017 that confirmed Omar Ayesh, Tameer’s founder, is a legitimate shareholder of 25% in the company and all its assets and holdings – a shareholding right denied by Ahmed al Rajhi and his co-conspirators. The award amount was UAE Dirhams 1.6 billion in addition to 9% compensation applicable since 2017, the date of the most recent case filing. Additionally, 10 million AED dirhams have been awarded for moral compensation. The total amount to date is UAE Dirhams 2.2 billion ($600 million).
The Dubai Courts have confirmed, after over twelve years of arbitration and litigation, what should simply have been a matter of affirming commercial rights. During that time, procedural flaws and loopholes allowed the sitting Saudi Minister of Labor to abuse the Emirati system using his financial and political influence, reflecting poorly on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s claimed anti-corruption efforts. The AlRajhis manipulated legal structures, witnesses, legal documents, and commercial accounts – creating shell companies, devaluing the company Ayesh established, and illegally expropriating assets – with no accountability for these crimes including, documented evidence of the minister’s lawyers threatening a magistrate judge upon the issuance of his preliminary report, forcing his resignation in fear.
The judgement in this civil case has found Ahmed al Rajhi guilty of denying shareholding rights. The Foundation hopes the courts of appeal and cassation will ensure an equally expeditious and transparent process with any appeals. Nevertheless, the verdict paves the way for criminal proceedings to begin against Ahmed al Rajhi and his co-conspirators, including his brother Abdallah, chairman of the largest “Islamic” bank in the world. Senior AlRajhi employees who participated in the financial crimes have fled the UAE to avoid prosecution, including Federico Tauber, Tameer and Gemstone president/CEO and Asma Khan, Chief Legal Officer.
The Global Justice Foundation shall continue shining a light on all corrupt individuals regardless of their position or seniority. The verdict in this case adds to the Foundation’s repository of evidence which shall be submitted to relevant anti-corruption authorities, including Saudi Arabia’s President of the Control and Anti-Corruption Commission, Mazen bin Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Kahmous.
The Global Justice Foundation applauds the Dubai Courts’ judge and expert committee for their professionalism and transparency in this case. The pre-judgement proceedings implemented measures unprecedented in Emirati legal history. These include the audiovisual recording & sharing of sessions with all parties, allowing overseas participants via video link, rejecting gag requests, and proactively purchasing copy equipment to record accounting records – records that Tameer executives had doctored as well as refused to release for over a decade, violating federal laws. The strict adherence to the letter of the law in this civil case as well as the exceptional steps taken to ensure fairness strengthens trust in the UAE’s judicial system. This is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, to ensure no one is above the law.
Since the media coverage of the verdict came to light, the Foundation has received multiple requests for assistance from victims of Tameer’s systemic corruption. The Foundation is reviewing all legal options available to assist these and other victims of criminal, commercial corruption in the region.

Amid this crisis, your film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai is releasing. It has waited a year to see this day. Did you feel restless and impatient at any point, during this waiting period?
Well, as an artiste, you don’t have much control over the timing of a film’s release. There are bigger problems at hand and people are suffering a lot more than a film not making it to theatres on a preset date. So, one does not feel much about it being delayed. In the past, I have been guilty of preparing for a film for two-three years, and after that, things didn’t move. So, waiting is okay for me. During the last wave of the pandemic, my international project Extraction released and I was happy that we were able to entertain people and take their minds off a gloomy situation temporarily. Around the same time this year, we have Radhe... it doesn’t matter if it’s a year late.
You have worked with Salman Khan before and there seems to be a certain ease when you appear on the screen together. Whether you play the villain, his coach, or someone chasing him — there is an unmissable camaraderie there.
Salman and I have hung out together and we have a friendship that goes back years. We get along well and I really like the guy. There is a camaraderie there which exists off-screen, too. I am very happy with my collaborations with Salman. I was chasing him in Kick, I trained him in Sultan and I am now testing him in Radhe... I think this progression was all planned by him (laughs!). The camaraderie on screen works out well when both the actors concentrate on their parts. Radhe... is an action entertainer and a story of cleaning the city of a drug ring, something that was being talked about last year. I worked with a cool action team from Korea and a team from the South, which, I would agree, is quite a blend. Prabhudeva keeps it simple and it’s not taxing to work with him. It’s a quintessential story about the good and bad guy and how the bad guy is taken down.
At this stage in your career, with 20 years and numerous roles in movies across genres, what do you seek in a prospective film?
There are many reasons I would say yes to a film — it has to primarily offer something new and exciting for me to do. I don’t like repeating myself. Of course, working with friends is an incentive. A scale like that of Extraction is something that also ticks a box. Primarily, I seek a story that should be something worthy of my time. I have worked with over 20 new directors in my career, so that has never been a constraint. At this stage in my career, with a few experiences in the past, the rest of the people attached to a film also matter a lot now. I have had many movies which didn’t get the perception and the release that they deserved.
Digital platforms have opened doors for actors to break new grounds, while the content is assessed purely on its merit. With Extraction, and now, Radhe..., which releases simultaneously on OTT, does the medium hold more appeal for you?
The longer format is interesting indeed, and I am doing a show, too. But the long format shooting is a new thing for me, and I don’t know yet if I am excited. Shooting for one show is like filming three-four films. This is a new territory and no doubt that new things are being explored. But I am not switching to the digital platform entirely. I still have that excitement about watching a film and being collectively infected with people’s energies in a cinema hall. That medium is still something! Over my career of two decades, I have delved into all sorts of roles across genres — villain, hero, satellite character — the work involved is the same in all these. I have to be truthful to the script, and the rest will happen. A lot of content comes my way, and some of it really excites me. I have enough on my plate to keep me busy; in fact, dates sometimes are an issue now. But I have a good blend on my table.
Lastly, in the pandemic, many actors have made their relationships formal and tied the knot. Have you been thinking on those lines?
Well, I am in the process, I guess. That’s all. That’s my answer — we are all progressing in life and let’s see where it takes us.
