WHEN HE’S HOME | A SasuSaku FanFic (One Shot)
It was almost midnight when Sakura came home from a medical mission that she and the other medical ninjas conducted. Yawning while stretching her arms a bit, she walked across their living room and found a note on the center table.
Mama,
We made dinner and it's in the refrigerator. You could just heat it up if you're hungry. Rest well!
Love,
Sarada
A smile appeared on her lips at the sweetness of her daughter until she noticed something. "Hang on. We?"
Is Sasuke-kun home?
She rushed to their bedroom and true enough, her raven-haired husband was sleeping there. It was amusing for her to see him as if he was a baby, with his steady breaths and gentle snores that were like music to her ears. Sighing happily, she paced through the room with gentle movements and found herself gazing steadily at his face. It's been quite a while since the last time she saw him peacefully comfortable with his guard down, so much unlike the block of ice that everyone knows, and it made her feel totally delighted to come home to such a sight despite the exhaustion she had been feeling the whole day.
Another yawn escaped her lips, signalling it was time for her to rest as well. She then planted a soft kiss on his cheek before lying down and facing her side of the bed.
It was moments before she fell into a deep slumber when she felt an arm make its way around her waist. Sasuke soon nuzzled his face into her hair, making a smile form on her lips. She missed having him beside her a lot, and with the way he pulled her closer, it seemed like her husband felt the same way too.

"I really think you should come home more often so you could fully rest, Sasuke-kun." Sakura sighed, caressing the bare shoulders of her husband for a much needed massage.
It was late at night when he appeared at their doorstep. And she didn't fail to notice a few wounds and bruises here and there. I wonder how many enemies he has to encounter along the way. In an instant, she healed those wounds with her chakra and offered to give him a massage which he gladly accepted.
"I could sleep in the woods, Sakura."
"That's exactly the point. You can't completely relax there. You don’t even have a comfortable sleeping bag like those that we used when we were travelling together. I just can't imagine how difficult it was for you all those years ago." She frowned as she pressed parts of his nape to ease off some tension there.
Sasuke knew that it was better for him not to banter with his wife now for she was in an accessible position to crush his bones with her superhuman strength. "But I'm here now, right?" He gently said as he tilted his face towards his wife.
Still, she didn't seem pleased, but she continued to massage his back while he was comfortably seated in front of her.
"You just worry too much," Sasuke muttered after a few silent moments.
Sakura huffed. "Because I just love you too much."
His wife’s words despite her irritation didn’t fail to make him smile. He found it funny how a few simple words could have the power to take away all the tension and pain in his system. He just wished he could actually show more of the love that Sakura also deserves. After all, she's right, he needs to come home more often and not miss moments like this.
*
*
*
A frown appeared on Sakura's face while she gazed outside the window, wondering if Sasuke would return and stay the night. In the past months or so, he had been going home at least twice or thrice a month, slowly becoming more often than usual.
"At least, there's a lot of progress than before," she muttered while embracing herself as the coldness of the night made itself known. "I just hope he's completely safe," she mentally prayed before deciding it was time for her to rest.
Sasuke arrived home at past midnight. He goes home every now and then even to just sleep and get a glimpse of even just his wife's face, since their daughter's already asleep by that time. For now, he was already somehow contented with that, yet he couldn't wait for the time to come wherein his journey in purging any possible peculiar threats to the nations would come to an end.
If only their enemies were mere mortals, he knew there would be no need to be away from his family, but knowing that there could be remnants of the Fourth Shinobi World War was something else. And it was only him who is capable of looking after any traces of possible repetition of such event.
After a quick shower, he gently positioned himself on his side of the bed, careful not to wake up his wife who was surely tired due to her long shifts in the hospital as well. However, Sakura stirred with his slightest movement. Realizing his failure, he just stared with a smile at his wife's face until her eyelids fluttered open. At least she's aware that I came home, he thought.
"Goodnight," he then whispered, making her form a smile that was good enough to give him a peaceful sleep that night. And then they both drifted to a deep slumber.
The light passing through the window became too much to bear when Sakura gained consciousness the next morning. She opened her eyes only to close it again, thinking that she must've forgotten to set the venetian blinds to close. And then she remembered something. Sasuke-kun was here last night! Or was it just a good dream? Opening her eyes again, she gloomed at the realization that there was no one beside her on the bed.
She then perked up from the bed and started pulling the duvet to fold it when she noticed something on the space beside her. There was a folded paper on Sasuke's side of the bed which she immediately took so she could take a look on its contents, and when she did, a gasp escaped from her lips while a shade of pink manifested on her cheeks.
I love you.
Three simple yet captivating words were written on the white sheet with the handwriting of no other than the only male Uchiha. And yup, Sasuke could be gone for as long as he wanted ‘cause right now, she felt like her mood's gonna be on its 120% for a good month or so.
*
*
*
"I'm home," Sasuke announced.
"Glad you're back!" His wife called from the kitchen.
When he proceeded there, he found her preparing their dinner. And with the ingredients scattered on the countertop, he knew it was his favorite meal that she was preparing. He smiled.
As he stared at her back with the Uchiha insignia proudly printed there, he couldn’t help but be in awe of the woman that meant so much to him. How could he not appreciate coming home if this woman would always welcome him with love with the bonus of a home-cooked meal?
Sakura suddenly felt a familiar grip from behind around her waist that caused a tint of pink to appear on her cheeks. "Are you alright?" She asked, to which Sasuke replied with a nod as he rested his head on her shoulder. She smiled as he planted a gentle kiss on the exposed skin there. Nothing beats the feeling of having him home and having short but meaningful encounters with him like this. "You seem to be always exhausted lately though," she noted.
He sighed with the fact. "I've been consistently travelling through different dimensions again. As usual, my rinnegan sometimes gets overused."
"Is there anything or anyone you're after at the moment?"
"Hm, not exactly, but I just have a hunch that there might be a threat or anything considering that last attempt of attack in Hidden Sand. I just needed to make sure if it's connected to the Otsutski clan again."
Sakura understood how difficult her husband's mission is. It's even much greater than what Naruto was doing in his office on a day to day basis. No wonder it’s taking too much toll on Sasuke’s body to the point that he couldn't hide it anymore like he used to. If only it was possible, she was sure that Sasuke would’ve dropped that mission just so he could be with his family. But it always made her heart swell that her husband still chose to make hard decisions for the safety of the entire Shinobi world.
"Anata?" Sakura uttered quite sheepishly.
"Hmm?"
A long silence filled them both until Sakura turned her head back to face him. "I just want to say that I'm proud of you." She beamed at the man she loved since they were younger. She was able to witness when Sasuke was just starting. There's no doubt she has seen his highs and lows, yet she loved him just the same even at his worst. "I'm proud of the man and shinobi you've become. Always remember that." And then she went back to what she was doing.
Sasuke was thankful she wasn't looking anymore for he was unable to conceal the crimson stain that appeared on his cheeks. He was in utter shock hearing those from his wife at such a random time. A small smile soon formed on his lips as he reflected on the truth that this is home – She is his home.

CLINGY | A SasuSaku FanFic (One Shot)
"Sasuke-kun?" Sakura whirled her head from side to side as she perked up from their sleeping bag, a slight panic building up in her chest. "Sasuke-kun, where are y—?"
"I'm here." Sasuke then heard a sigh of relief from below the tree branch he was cautiously positioned on. Of course he was keeping an eye on the surroundings; he's protecting two precious lives now and he isn't in any way going to be complacent about keeping them safe. He then tilted his head and met the expectant eyes of his wife beneath where he was. "Do you need me down there?"
She hesitated to answer, but soon gave him a sheepish nod.
That expectant look when she saw him was already enough answer for Sasuke, but he only decided to give up his task of defense when she confirmed to him with another action. It wasn't as if this was the first time. If she's not clinging to his arms while travelling, or resting her head on his shoulder, or nuzzling her face in his hair, she's either showering him with gentle kisses on his face or cuddling with him on her sleep while practically almost strangling him in the process. He was a battered husband but in a good way.
In a swift motion, he landed smoothly on the ground and faced his lifetime partner. "You seem so clingy to me nowadays," he pointed out without hesitation.
The direct remark didn't fail to turn Sakura's face to a hundred shades of red. "Eh? Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones." She released a nervous laugh. "Don't you...uhm, you don't like it, do you?" Since he started talking about it, she finally had the courage to ask something that was making her anxious at times.
When they were younger, Sasuke would push her away without a thought whenever she tried to be very close with him, but when they started dating and got married, things started to change a tad. It wasn't until Sakura got pregnant that things changed more than the usual, and it wasn't even him who often initiated the physical closeness, but she was never totally sure if he was okay with it. She couldn't help it, for some reason, she was so fond of him more than ever before. She wouldn't even be surprised if their child would come out as his carbon copy, not that she'd even complain.
A small frown made its way on her face after a few heartbeats of her husband's silence.
Sasuke on the other hand, carefully thought of his next words hoping to be able to tell the truth without offending his wife. "Hn. I like it. I'm just...not yet really used to it." He knew he uttered the right explanation when he saw her emerald orbs sparkle at him with delight.
"Oh. I'm sorry, Anata." She chuckled. "I guess you'll have to endure three more months of a clingy me and try to get used to it." She gave him an apologetic look that made him smirk.
"No. It's not like I'll get rid of you after three months. I might as well have to learn to enjoy – not just endure – that for the rest of my life." He paced closer to her and sat on the space left for him on their sleeping bag.
Sakura's hand moved gracefully above the swell of her stomach, a blush forming on her cheeks. "Aww. Your papa's so sweet, isn't he?" She cooed while caressing the part where the little Uchiha was.
The hand of Sasuke made its way above it too. "And your mama's so annoying."
"Hey!" Sakura pouted as she lightly elbowed his chest.
Sasuke was sure, however, that despite it being a mere light movement for her, a bruise would certainly appear tomorrow on his skin there. It's probably the only slightly negative part of marrying the kunoichi with superhuman strength.
He smiled a little the moment he placed his hand above hers. Then, staring at the place where their future child was growing, he continued his little speech with a soft voice, "But I love her."
His wife's orbs shifted to his face, quite stunned at the words she heard. Although she was well aware of what he feels for her, it wasn't a usual thing for Sasuke to verbalize it. But there's just really something so wonderful about having a child that deepened their connection and led them to be more expressive of their affection to each other.
After years of hoping and waiting for him, Sakura was well content for this was even far greater than what she had imagined them to have. "I love you, too...Sasuke-kun."
And then they slept with her quite strangling him throughout the rest of the night.

KARIN | A SasuSaku FanFic - (1/10)
Sakura was all smiles around the hospital the whole day. She's a cheerful woman, alright, but there was seemingly something so eminently special about that day that caused the pink-haired medic nin to be at the pinnacle of her emotions. There was no heavy workload, irritable workmate, nor delayed appointment that was intense enough to wipe away that dazzling smile plastered on her face.
The Rokudaime, as he observed during his routine checkup conducted by Sakura that morning, was certain that it has something to do with what he and Naruto had told her a week ago – the best news she had ever received in the past two or so years – for Sasuke was finally coming home. He was sure that his former kunoichi student has been waiting for this day, and so he decided to send her and Naruto to welcome the wandering ninja near the gates of Konoha by the time that she ends her shift at the hospital.
"Finally! It's about time teme comes home, 'ttebayo!" Naruto exclaimed with his hands behind his head. If there was someone whose excitement could parallel with hers, it was surely their raven-haired teammate's best friend and rival. "I'm so excited I could give him a punch for not attending my wedding!" He laughed rather boisterously, earning an eye roll from his female teammate. "I'm sure you'll be over the moon once you see him again, Sakura-chan!"
Sakura's cheeks became as pink as her hair as she shoved him by the shoulder. "Shut up, Naruto!"
Naruto giggled. "Oh, did you know? Sasuke has finally requested to renovate the Uchiha compound last month. I wonder what his plans are." He wiggled his eyebrows at her.
Sakura is smart enough to catch what he was thinking. This made her face turn even redder. She fiddled with her fingers as she mused about the possibilities. Of course, she has been wondering about Sasuke's plans after his return as well. And for the longest time, she has been pondering about what he meant when he told her that he'll see her when he's back after giving her forehead a tap that seemed to be affectionate, if she understood it right. Somehow, she has started to imagine the delight it would bring if she becomes a part of his plans, but she didn't want to assume too much.
"It might not mean anything, you know? At least, we could now say that he's finally ready to be back in that place." She smiled. "It's been difficult for him to accept his past, embrace the present, and move towards the future. But this could be his first step."
Naruto beamed back at her with awe. "You really love him, don't you?"
Sakura sighed and stared at the grassy road ahead of them. "More than words."
It wasn't too long until they started seeing a silhouette from afar. At that instant, Sakura's heart began to pound inside her chest.
This is it.
The wait is over.
She could finally welcome him home.
She bit her lower lip in anticipation, hands clutched together as if praying that time would speed up and rid them of the suspense they were feeling. Moments later, the very moment they've been waiting for finally arrived.
"Oi! Welcome home, tem—! Oh..." It was Naruto who spoke first.
Sakura, however, could only stare.
For Sasuke was now standing in front of them. And behind him, was a very pregnant redhead.
Naruto's eyes shifted back and forth between the two newcomers. For a split second, he narrowed his eyes but decided to brush it off and continue with his welcoming attitude. "Welcome, guys! Hey, Karin! Congratulations! About to bring another Uzumaki into the world, huh?"
"She's not an Uzumaki anymore." And those were the very first words that they heard from Sasuke after a good dose of more than two years.
If Sakura's heart didn't skip a beat earlier, right now, it seemed to have fully stopped beating. She's...not an...does he mean that...?
Karin blushed and pushed her glasses upwards, grinning from ear to ear at the guy beside her. "Sasuke’s right."
"Oh." Naruto scratched the back of his head, discreetly giving Sasuke a "what the hell?" look. "Uh, that's nice." Although he is the physical embodiment of the term extrovert, he seemed to have finally succumbed into the awkwardness of the situation. He spared a glance at Sakura who was silent the entire time, and for a moment, his fists clenched. This was not the way he imagined his bestfriend's return. "Well then, what are your plans now, Teme?"
Karin suddenly scooted closer to Sasuke and clung her arm to his. "I'm sorry, Sasuke. But I'm terribly exhausted right now. I might pass out anytime soon."
Sakura's breath hitched at the sight. And she could feel her hands tremble when she caught Sasuke's eyes widen abruptly, his expression borderline panic. She felt like a total intruder all of a sudden, with her heart constricting in a manner that felt so real, almost too tangible even.
Sasuke then turned to Naruto with his brows furrowed. "Naruto, is the Uchiha Compound finished?"
"Uh, yes. Captain Yamato and some of his men had finished it just last week," Naruto confirmed, blinking in confusion at the sudden change of topic. "Wait, since Karin's exhausted, and it seems like she's about to give birth any time soon, should we bring her to the hospital? Or find a place? Or maybe Sakura-chan here could check up on—?"
"No, she's staying at my place."
That's when all hell broke loose. Sakura was sure that she didn't hear anything else other than those six words but she clearly felt her heart shattering into pieces as if it fell onto the floor with a very loud thud. Her mind seemed to have shut down as she stared at the man that she has waited to come home after all these years.
Nonetheless, she knew that time that the longer he sees him, or hear anything else that he would say about Karin, the more that her heart would feel as though its cracked pieces are being stepped on.
Repeatedly...
Mercilessly...
Naruto on the other hand merely stood there with his lips parted, shifting his glance on each of the three people with him by the gates of their village.
Before her jinchuriki teammate even talked again, Sakura slowly mustered the energy and courage to speak, and then she cleared her throat. "I...I think I should go back to the hospital now for my second shift." She looked on the ground and uttered the words she has been waiting to tell the Uchiha: "Welcome home, Sasuke-kun..."
She clenched her fists. "...and Karin."
She then quickly turned and headed to the hospital passing through the roofs, ignoring how a startled Naruto repeatedly called her name.
Jumping from one roof to another, Sakura realized that tears have begun streaming down her cheeks. She tried so hard to get a grip even though her knees were already feeling quite wobly, trembling in pain that was not even physical. For years, she has looked forward to this day, but who would have thought that she'll finally reach this day only to be astounded with what seemed like a slap to her face?
Sasuke finally came home.
However...with someone else.
And worse, that someone else was already married, pregnant, and about to stay at his place.
She still hasn't heard Sasuke's elaborate story, but it appeared that he already mentioned enough. And she was hurt enough.
Is this all that she's gonna get after waiting for him all this time? She has never felt so betrayed. Until she realized that Sasuke just tapped her on the forehead and said that he'll see her soon. And now that he has seen her, maybe that's it. Why did she even believe that it could mean something more?
Brushing both her hands on her face to wipe her tears, she heaved a sigh and chose to set aside the incident when she reached the hospital. She wasn't supposed to return for a second shift, making Shizune curious about her sudden change of plans. But once Shizune saw the massive difference on her current countenance compared to the one she had that morning, she decided not to dare question Sakura's return anymore. Besides, she could use the help in finishing the research analysis they were told to present days from now. But she didn't expect Sakura to stay in the hospital up until past midnight just to work on that.

KARIN | A SasuSaku FanFic (4/10)
(Karin - Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3)
———
When he opened Karin's room, he didn't expect the sight to leave him frozen by the door with his mouth slightly parted in awe. His heart ran wild as his mind suddenly flew to a far future that he didn't even know if he'll ever reach or deserve.
For he found Sakura in the middle of the room, gazing at a redhead baby in her arms as she hummed a random tune and swayed it to sleep. He never imagined how such a beautiful scenario was fitting for her to be in.
"Oh. Good afternoon, Sasuke-kun."
He recovered from his trance when Sakura glanced up and smiled at him, gently and almost sheepishly, taking his breath away. "Hn." He avoided her eyes as he dropped the bag he was holding to a table once he was inside the room. "I brought the remaining stuff of Karin from my house."
"Ah. Karin's still asleep, she became easily tired after welcoming Suigetsu earlier." Sakura giggled softly to avoid waking the little bundle in her arms. "Meanwhile, Suigetsu said he'll try to search for a temporarily place they could stay in while Karin and the baby are recuperating."
He tersely nodded, continuing to avert his eyes from her. After years of his absence, and a month of her deliberate avoidance in seeing him, Sasuke suddenly struggled to keep his cool around the pink-haired medic.
It didn't even help that she began pacing towards him, still humming a sweet melody that he couldn't put a name on, and then she stopped close enough for him to smell the cherry blossom scent of his hair alongside – what was that – milk? Ah, of course, she was holding a baby. His heart pounded against his ribcage at that fact once more.
"Sasuke-kun, this is Suika." She cradled the baby and looked at him. This time, he had no choice but to meet her dazzling gaze. "Do you want to hold her?"
Sasuke's eyes widened momentarily. "I...I only have one arm, Sakura."
She chuckled. "I know. But don't worry. Here, I'll help you." She was already extending her arms and positioning the baby on his only arm before he could even reply.
He, on the other hand, was stuck in staring at her face the whole time. It wasn't having a single arm that could compromise the baby's safety, but his lack of focus due to his awestruck admiration towards the medic nin. He didn’t expect her to be that knowledgeable and comfortable about anything related to babies at such a young age.
He felt a tug at the corner of his lips at the realization that his former teammate in their genin squad has come a long way. A part of him wished that he was there to witness her growth in the past, but a bigger part of him suddenly desired that from now on, he’d be there to see her reach the beautiful future that awaits her.
"There! Suika, this is Uncle Sasuke." She cooed.
Sasuke gripped the baby a little tighter when she let out a soft whimper. He finally turned his face to Suika and slowly imitated the way Sakura cradled her moments ago as she fixed the infant's bib in place.
He was well aware that Sakura was too close and that they were in such an intimate position, holding a baby and all. And Sasuke couldn't help but think about the possibility of him and Sakura being in the same scenario again one day. The only difference would be holding a black-haired (or pink-haired? He doesn't mind.) baby in between them by then. He was a little surprised with the direction his thoughts went so he softly cleared his throat, hoping to clear his mind as well.
"You're doing well, Sasuke-kun!" Sakura chuckled as she took a step back, taking in the sight of the great Sasuke Uchiha holding an infant in his arm. "You look so cute holding a bab—oh!" Her hand flew to cover her lips at the realization of what she had just said. A flush immediately appeared on her cheeks. "I mean, it's...uh...you—"
Tch. Annoying. "It's fine." He smirked. At least he's not the only one who was flustered.
"Hey, Sasuke!" They suddenly heard a voice by the door.
"Sssh! Suigetsu! Your wife and daughter's asleep!"
Sasuke stifled a laugh at the way Sakura hissed at his former comrade in Taka which reminded him of the usual way she scolded Naruto in Team 7. He still found it a bit odd that two parts of his past could still be there in his present.
The water ninja scratched the back of his head. "Ah. Sorry, Sakura-san."
"Do you want to hold your kid?"
"Where is—oh!" Suigetsu suddenly snickered when Sasuke turned to face him. "Never in my life did I imagine seeing you holding anything valuable other than a sword, let alone a baby!"
His former leader rolled his eyes.
"Here, let me get her."
Sasuke eyed Sakura for assistance but she simply gave him an encouraging nod, trusting him fully that he wouldn't be the cause of a newborn’s cracked head today.
When Suigetsu was already carrying his daughter, his gaze quickly softened as he flashed a toothy smile.
Sasuke was yet again surprised with the sight. He couldn’t deny that he was amazed with how his former comrades have changed for the better since the time he formed Team Hebi.
He looked on the ground. How could someone with an intense drive for killing people have such a look on his face? Is redemption really that possible? Does he even deserve the same thing?
“Really, though, Sasuke, thank you,” Suigetsu began, his eyes still fixed on his kid. “I believe it was orchestrated how we crossed paths last month. I...I really didn’t want to put Karin in danger in the Mist. They still needed to believe that I’m really pledging allegiance to my clan again despite my connection with Orochimaru for my new family needs a place to stay in. But if they saw Karin with me while we settle disputes, they might think we’re plotting something against the village.” He rolled his eyes and cackled. “Things like that were fun. But, I’m way past that. I and Karin are way past that. Thanks to you.”
Sasuke’s head snapped up, his lips parted as if to ask him what he was talking about.
“When we saw how willing you are to recommit to the Leaf, and help it from the outside, we thought it’s possible to do the same thing, to be like you in some ways. Now, we’re here. And you’ve kept my wife and child safe up to now. So, thanks Sasuke.”
Sasuke was still frozen in place as he stared back at Suigetsu. How could his former teammates be inspired with someone so messed up like him?
Sakura was smiling the whole time as he observed the two men. She could sense how uneasy Sasuke was, and she could only imagine the struggle in his thoughts right now. She sighed softly, realizing that he probably still didn’t believe that he’s now a changed man.
How could he not see it? She’s heard from Naruto and Kakashi how he was serving the village from afar and how he was helping people from other villages. It even made her think of him as a one-man police force that protects the village in the shadows. And that kind of man is far from the broken boy he used to be. She really wished he sees it now.
“I’m sure Karin is grateful as well. You know how much that woman was into you.” Suigetsu released another laugh. “I don’t even know how your patience survived her in the past month.”
“Oi! I can hear you!”
Three pairs of eyes darted towards the patient in the room.
“Oh. Speaking of the four-eyed devil,” Suigetsu muttered, feigning irritation.
Sakura found herself amused at the husband and wife. “Karin, glad you’re awake.” She then paced towards her and assisted her so she could be in a sitting position.
“Thanks, Sakura.” Karin slightly shifted in her bed, her entire body still sore from yesterday’s labor. “Well, truth be told, I didn’t bother Sasuke that much since I could take care of myself. I only sought for his help when I needed to go out and buy something since long walks are going to be the death of me, probably until now. So mind you, Shark-face, I don’t think I’ve stretched his patience. Right, Sasuke?” She grinned.
Sasuke heaved a sigh, and they weren’t sure if he wanted to say otherwise.
Suigetsu stifled a laugh at this. “Well, if circumstances were different I’m sure you would’ve been glad that you finally had an alone time with Sasuke.” He quirked an eyebrow at his wife. “You’ve always wanted that, right?”
“Oi! That’s not what—!”
“You’re both waking up and stressing out your kid.” Sasuke took it back, his teammates hadn’t changed at all.
“Sasuke-kun’s right, guys.” Sakura chuckled with her hands on her hips. “Now, now, I need you, men, to be out for a while because I’ll let Karin try to breastfeed Suika.”
Both men’s ears turned red.
“Oh, alright.” Suigetsu approached Karin who was still glaring at him. Snickering, he handed their baby gently in her arms. “I’ll be back. I might go out again to continue searching for a place.” He then kissed the top of his daughter’s head, paused in front of Karin’s face, and stuck his tongue out at her when she expected for a kiss.
Her reaction was worth it, and he was sure if she wasn’t holding their baby, she would’ve smacked him around the head.
When the water ninja was already by the door, holding it open for him, Sasuke turned to face Sakura and said, “I’ll just wait for you outside.”
And then all the girls were left inside the room.
Sakura remained staring at the door, slightly wondering as to why Sasuke would say that he would wait for her when in fact, Karin was the patient and the one he should be visiting. Then she realized the fact that weirdly, he didn’t even speak to the redhead at all.

KARIN | A SasuSaku FanFic - (3/10)
(Karin - Part 1 / Part 2)
———
Sakura gaped at the sight as the baby emitted her first whine. Even after staring at her intently, the fact remained that the baby had no resemblance at all with the only Uchiha she knows. She didn’t know what to think. She was bewildered. But the cheery cry of Karin made her whip her head and shift her focus. Blinking twice, she handed the baby to the new mother and simply stood there, dumbfounded at the sudden revelation.
"Oh, gosh. Look at you, sweetheart. You are so cute!" Karin gushed, tears still flowing from her eyes. "You better be back soon, Shark-face," she then murmured to herself. "I made it. Suika and I made it. Please be back soon."
And that's when Sakura was able to put two and two together. As much as it didn't make sense to her while she was staring at the mother and child, she was well aware of the flood of relief that slowly entered her entire system. For after a month of internal turmoil, maybe, just maybe, her heart wasn't meant to be broken after all.
Lightheaded as she was, she still managed to finish all of her tasks in the operating room and made her exit after Karin mouthed a heartfelt "thank you" to her.
She shut the door and leaned on it for a few moments, heaving a sigh as she closed her eyes with her head down. It's been a pretty long day. Karin's delivery was one of those that drained most of Sakura's usual chakra, but at the end of the day, all that mattered was the fact that her patient and her baby survived.
It didn't take long until she realized that Sasuke was still there, leaning on the wall right across her with a blank expression on his face. She didn’t know what to tell him. But the revelation she received earlier crossed her mind which caused her to smile a bit. It was the first time that she felt completely at ease about having a wrong presumption on something.
She smoothed her now bloody lab coat and glanced up at him. "They're doing fine," she assured the redhead's former leader. "Karin's already resting and the baby's under the care of our nurses."
She still wasn't sure about how and why Sasuke was tied into the situation but she knew he still needed to be aware. After all, Karin had been with him since the time he returned.
He gave her a nod. "Good. I'm sure you've done a great job."
"Thanks." She bit her lip. Why was she suddenly feeling nervous under his intent stare? She cleared her throat, thinking of ways to continue the conversation since she was still too tired to move and it would be rather awkward being around him in silence after everything that had happened recently. "So...Suigetsu, huh?"
Sasuke raised an eyebrow at her. Until it dawned on him that this pink-haired doctor had just discovered a certain information today. Her attitude before the delivery began now made perfect sense to him. He tilted his head to one side. If he still had two arms now, he would’ve surely crossed them above his chest. "You thought the baby's mine."
Sakura simply shrugged. "No one told me." To think that she is the most brainy of them all in Team 7, she actually had every reason to be embarrassed, but she was too exhausted to even mind.
"And you didn't ask."
Sakura looked down and fiddled on the hem of her coat. If she would be honest, although it could’ve saved her from the pit of distress, asking anyone about Sasuke and Karin was something she didn’t want to risk knowing that it would hurt her all the more if she ever confirmed that something was going on between them. "I thought it has nothing to do with me. Anything about you, Sasuke-kun, is none of my business, right?"
Sasuke sighed. He didn't know if he would be irked or amused. "So that's why you've been avoiding me."
“W-what do—? Avoidi—? I haven't been avoiding you!”
Sasuke wasn't dumb to not realize that his former teammate seemed to be intentionally avoiding him. That very moment that Sakura left them by the Konoha gates, he couldn’t help but scowl. He almost wanted to follow her, but then, Karin winced in pain, so he and Naruto (who was still baffled with the situation and tempted to invite Sasuke for another match at the Valley of End) immediately assisted the pregnant woman towards the compound so she could finally rest after hours of traveling.
And that same night, he planned to pick up Sakura from the hospital. He had no idea what time she would end her shift, but he was already by the door of his house when Karin suddenly announced that she had a fever, making him turn around grudgingly and decide to stay. It was a good thing that the redhead could take care of herself, but Sasuke just didn't want to feel bad about leaving Karin on her own knowing that she could be in labor any time soon.
He cringed at the thought of being the cause of the loss of two lives. He certainly didn't want Suigetsu to experience the grief of losing the only people he loved in the same way that he did when he was young.
In the coming weeks, amidst tasks given by Kakashi, sparring sessions with the next in line Hokage, and the sudden duty of making sure that Karin and the unborn child were alive, he did his best to squeeze into his schedule a few hours to search for Sakura. But to his dismay, she was always nowhere to be found. Thrice, he came to the hospital only to be met by Shizune saying that Sakura has been all around the hospital for weeks, to the point that even she didn't know where the pink-haired doctor was working anymore. Sasuke clenched his jaw and simply nodded, disappointed that he couldn't find the one he was looking for.
There were times, however, that he thought he caught a glimpse of hair with a carnation hue at the market, only for it to be gone in an instant before he could even move from where he was.
And by that single occasion that he was finally able to stumble across her alone, he unfortunately struggled on what to tell her first. Should he ask her how she was? Should he apologize for taking too long before his return? Should he clarify the situation he was in?
A lump was stuck on his throat until her phone buzzed from her front pocket and in a swift manner, Sakura slipped away from him again. If it was intentional, he didn't know. But he almost broke four of Naruto's ribs during a sparring session that he demanded to have after that, especially when the jinchuriki said that even he couldn't find a way to talk with Sakura.
Sasuke pushed himself off the wall and paced closer to her. "I've just noticed." He shrugged, gazing at her eyes like never before. "I was expecting you'd be happy that I'm back, but the moment you saw me, you immediately left. Now I know why." He frowned.
The pink-haired doctor gaped, at a loss for words. He was expecting she'd be happy? Why? It's not as if he came back for her, right?
Sasuke sighed as Sakura averted his gaze. "Do you really think I would knock up someone on my redemption journey? And someone I don’t even have feelings for?”
This time, he wanted to make things clear. If the Karin situation made her avoid him painfully like that, he wanted to clarify things so it would never happen again. He didn’t want to go through the same emotional whirlwind he didn’t know he’s capable of having just because of her absence. Now he knows what she has possibly felt during all those years that he wasn’t around. And now he knows how much she truly means to him. A single month for him was bad enough, he couldn’t imagine how worse it was for Sakura.
“I came across Suigetsu and Karin when I was on my way back,” he began. “Suigetsu said he had a vital task to do in Hidden Mist, but pointed out that it would be dangerous for Karin and their child for she was having a delicate pregnancy. So with much force, he asked me a favor to assist Karin, especially if he still won't be with her by the time she delivers their kid."
Her lips parted as she glanced at the unusually communicative Sasuke in front of her. "Y-you didn't have to explain, Sasuke-kun."
Sasuke, now amused, smirked and searched for Sakura's eyes. He could see the hesitation and confusion there. But after years of relying on the picture imprinted in his mind through his Sharingan, he was glad that he could now stare at those green orbs up close. "Well, you look like you need some assurance."
Sakura's forehead creased. She didn't know where the conversation was heading, but now that she fully understood the situation between Karin and Sasuke, she felt as if a huge boulder was taken off her chest. Yet she didn’t want him to notice that. She shifted her gaze to meet Sasuke's. "Assurance? Assurance for what?"
A few seconds had passed and Sasuke just stared back at her, taking the time to finally appreciate all the features of the pink-haired woman that he has terribly missed – something he only admitted to himself when he finally saw her again at Ichiraku. Putting his arm on his pocket, he sighed once more, feeling lighthearted that at least, they could somehow finally start somewhere after this conversation. "I told you that I'll see you when I'm back, Sakura."
"You already saw me that same day, Sasuke-kun." She already let go of thinking that there could be something more with his last words to her before he left on his journey, but somehow, despite the spark of hope that she had after knowing that Sasuke wasn't wedded and with child yet, she still didn't want to have false hopes.
He fought the urge to scoff. Somehow, he used to think that he's the one who's dense, but someone upstaged him all of a sudden.
When she didn't answer, probably still contemplating about the revelations she had received today or just plainly exhausted considering that it was almost midnight already, he spoke again, "Is this your last task for the day?"
As much as Sakura wanted to parse everything that Sasuke told her tonight, she was glad that the topic had changed. This reunion with Sasuke was a comfort she didn't realize she needed after a disheartening month, but right now, she was well aware of her need for a reunion with her bed too.
She sighed. "Yeah, finally."
"Alright. I'll walk you home. I'll wait for you downstairs."
Her eyes widened, but Sasuke was already retreating towards the stairs before she could even answer. "...O-okay."
Sasuke received a letter from Suigetsu the next morning saying that he was already near the borders of Konoha, finally close to seeing his wife and daughter after what seemed like a very long month. The moment he sent the information about Karin's successful delivery via his hawk, he suspected that the water ninja became too excited to see his kid that he rushed to finish whatever personal task he had in the village where he was born.
If he would be be completely honest, he still found it amusing how his former comrades ended up together, considering that the redhead was too engrossed in him back then, and the swordsman was rather committed in making Karin's life miserable. He smirked at the memory. Maybe having love and a family could really turn the tables around.
"They're in Room 308," Shizune informed him when he asked about Karin and the baby's whereabouts. "Sakura's already there to check on the baby. I guess it's time she becomes visible." She laughed.
"Thanks. Is she always as busy as she was in the past weeks?"
Shizune rolled her eyes and sighed. "She is when she wants to be. But I already talked some sense to her. I'm just not quite sure if she would listen this time so I'm also hoping that you could help her avert the workaholic lifestyle.” She then smirked. "Do you think you can do something about that, Sasuke?"
"Aa. Leave it to me." He nodded, a small smile gracing his lips as he turned to proceed to the room mentioned to him. After all, Naruto and Kakashi were right when they said "It's about time, Sasuke/Teme!", but he wouldn't tell them that.

(Karin - Part 4)
Ha. This turned out much longer than I initially planned! I thought of putting more scenes with the other characters since they’re quite important in the build up of SasuSaku’s relationship here. What are your thoughts and feelings about this chapter so far? :) You could check my other SasuSaku fics here! :D

CAVE ENCOUNTER | A SasuSaku FanFic (One Shot)
It was one of those days wherein he wanted to spend the night somewhere else by himself.
Sure, it was beneficial for him that he got to recruit men and a woman to join him in fulfilling what had been his lifelong mission ever since that night he saw his parents' lifeless bodies, but there were days that he just needed solace with just himself. Thankfully, Suigetsu and Jugo would understand it whenever he'd decide to be solitary for a night or two for whatever the team's grind would be was his call anyway. But Karin? She was, in many ways, one of the reasons he wanted all the more to be left alone most of the time.
Sasuke left the other three members of Team Hebi to fend for themselves while he sought for a place to rest a few kilometers away from them. Frustration was getting the best of him for they still couldn't find any trace as to where Itachi could be. It wasn't as if he's losing time. Heck, he could search for him all his life just so he could finally finish him off. However, it already got to a point wherein he got sick of merely going nowhere. Plus, there's nothing really amusing with being around Suigetsu, Jugo, and Karin if they're not able to progress in accomplishing their task.
Moments later, he found a cave past the trees he had been leaping from. He was sure that they passed by this place earlier but the cave wasn't too noticeable, which was what he wanted since he wasn't in the mood to be involved with any unnecessary combats for the night nor to be found by the other three.
With his Sharingan, he ventured through the dark cavern to seek a space to settle in, only to be taken aback when he realized that a campfire was set at the farthest part of the cave and that he wasn't alone.
He tensed at the sight of a pink-haired woman sitting by the fire with her back on him. For a moment, he thought of simply vacating the place so he wouldn't make himself noticed, but something inside him made him want to stay, even though he was aware that he might end up regretting that he had let himself be distracted.
There was only one pink-haired woman that he knew, and the white circle outline on her back validated his first thought. "Sakura."
The woman stood up in shock, her body rigid as she took in the voice that was all too familiar for her. She thought for a fraction of a second that maybe she was just hallucinating because of how exhausted she was after the long day. Besides, it wasn't new for her to be dreaming about him. But the moment she turned to where the voice came from, her memory was right after all. "Sasuke...kun."
Sakura's heart started racing at the fact that he was indeed in front of her – the one whom her heart beats for since they were younger, yet chose to leave her behind; the one Naruto and the others were searching for through a retrieval mission, yet they never found.
His hair was the same but a little longer. And his outfit was far from anything anyone in the Leaf would wear. The genin Sasuke that she knew was nowhere in sight and the man in front of her seemed to have drastically changed from the inside out for he looked more mature than the last time she saw him.
His well-toned physique and the sword on the side of his waist gave her the idea that he has gotten a lot stronger than before too. It was something he has always wanted to happen so she was glad that he got to achieve it. And because of that, she somehow hoped that this time, he could finally return to the Leaf with her.
Sasuke observed her with austereness. He found it odd how something about her screamed progress and strength, contrary to the fragility of the annoying girl that used to follow him around. With dull eyes and clenched jaw, he asked, "Why are you here?"
"I...I was out for a solo mission."
"Solo mission?" He arched an eyebrow at her. Part of him wanted to scoff skeptically, yet another part wanted to smirk with pride at the fact that she was given a mission without anyone having to protect her – a proof that she must've progressed well with her life while he was away. Despite him being a tad bit pleased on the inside, he reminded himself that he couldn't be complacent around someone whom he knew could stand on his way. Even if it’s her.
"Yes." Instinctively, she took steps forward to him, almost about to reach out to him as her eyes focused on those onyx orbs that she terribly missed.
However, Sasuke swiftly appeared behind her and she heard the sound of a sword being unsheathed that made a shiver run down her spine. "Never let your guard down in front of an enemy.” His voice was threatening, leaving no trace of the way her former teammate used to talk with her. “Why weren't you preparing to attack at all?"
It broke her heart that the man behind her wasn't the same Sasuke that she knew. For a second, she thought he would knock her out again just like how he he left her on that last time they met near the gates of Konoha.
When it didn't happen, she replied, "Because...it's you, Sasuke-kun. You're not an enemy to me."
"For all I know, the moment I defected the village, I'm already a rogue shinobi." Now appearing in front of her, he pushed her rather harshly on a wall and then pressed his hands against it on either side of her face, struggling internally for a reason he couldn't put a name on.
Tears started forming in her eyes as she stared back at her former teammate. She just realized how all the more painful it was to hear from the man she loves the admission of opposing the village he grew up in. "W-well...I know you have your own reasons. But it doesn’t mean you can’t go back and you’ll forever be a rogue nin.”
There was a spark in her eyes that made Sasuke consider that Sakura somehow understood him at a certain level.
But it wasn’t her who was there to personally witness his parents surrounded by their own blood. It wasn’t her who was mentally tormented with a myriad of scenarios that happened on that atrocious day. And it wasn’t her who was challenged to harbor hatred day by day just so he could fulfill a purpose that he didn’t even desire to have. Hence, she would never completely understand.
He clenched his jaw as he thought of a rebuttal to the girl that should have forgotten him – hated him, even – a long time ago, only to be stupefied with her immediate follow up.
“I still trust you, Sasuke-kun. You...you already know how I feel for you. It's not like it could easily change. Please...it’s not too late for you to come home." Her last words became almost inaudible as her hands unconsciously made their way on Sasuke's chest, causing Sasuke to flinch with her touch.
Sasuke seemed to have lost all coherence in his brain while his eyes were fixed intently on two viridian pools. "You're still so annoying," he then hissed, and before Sakura could even open her mouth for a reply, his lips suddenly crashed onto hers.
He hates it.
He hates it that it hurt for him to leave her on that bench years ago.
He hates it that he realized just now how he had been craving to see her again.
He hates it that the moment she spoke about her feelings for him even after all this time, it made his heart feel a palpable frenzy that he couldn't contain.
And even though he had fought so hard to sever all the bonds he had before, especially with her, he hates it that he couldn't fight even harder to stop himself from entertaining the submerged joy of being with her right now.
Sakura was frozen on the spot with the sudden action. She might have imagined something like this between them when they were younger, but this was totally different and unexpected. His kiss was ferocious, filled with an unexplainable desperate need. It's like a commemoration of their years of being apart and the only way to fill the gaps of each other's absence was to seal them with this kiss. Soon enough, she started responding and kissing back, her arms snaking around his neck and her fingers landing on the soft spikes of his raven hair.
Sasuke's arms later wrapped around her waist as he pulled her closer, not breaking the kiss as if his life depended on it, on her. He knew that this could possibly be the last time that he'll be able to see her, a bonus epilogue to what he used to believe that when he left her sleeping on that bench years ago, they wouldn't cross paths at all anymore.
At least he had this one more chance, this was a rare opportunity he wouldn't deny he was grateful to have. And if ever they would even see each other again, he was sure she wouldn't – no, she shouldn't – see him in the same way anymore after all that he's become and was still becoming.
Maybe this would be the last time that she'll see him with the same compassion as before; hence, he wanted to treasure the way her lips were moving in sync with his before he lets her go.
However, with the danger of becoming all too comfortable with her presence and being completely distracted from his goals, he decided to pull away, breathless as they continued to hold each other, with their foreheads touching and their breaths racing at an uneven pace. Sasuke wasn't used to such a close proximity, but with Sakura, it didn't matter. He scanned her face as if memorizing every feature that he would keep etched in his mind while he was away.
And then, he shut his eyes and muttered "I'm sorry" just above a whisper before swiftly disappearing with a jutsu that Sakura wasn't aware of.
It felt as if her heart dropped at the sudden emptiness of the space in front of her. Tears replaced those few moments of indescribable bliss as her hand hovered on her lips.
Was he sorry because of his sudden action, or because of turning away from everything and everyone who loves him especially her? She was convinced it was more of the latter.
During their short reunion, she was quite sure that he was struggling about something in one way or another. And the fact that he didn't just simply turn away from her like what he did on that one night when they were 13 gave her a tinge of hope that Sasuke could still be not too far from saving, and that probably, there's a little space in his heart reserved for her.
He shouldn’t have decided to kiss her if that’s not the case, right?
Yet, as she cried herself to sleep in the cave, she couldn't subdue the searing pang in her chest due to the reality that he still chose to leave again.
The next morning, Sakura ventured back to the Leaf village without letting anyone know about the encounter she had with the missing shinobi. But this time, whenever she thinks of him, she would always remember the warmth of his lips on hers.

THREE WORDS | A SasuSaku FanFic (One Shot)
Ever since the raven-haired boy came back to the village, he has been on her side almost all the time. At times there were a few exchange of conversations, but most of the time they simply lingered in a comforting silence side by side as the Uchiha survivor walked the pink-haired maiden home.
It kind of became a usual thing, Sasuke would be in front of Sakura's house on mornings to walk her to the clinic she and Ino have opened before he would go on his own to accomplish whatever mission the Sixth Hokage would entrust to him for the day. And then by the end of the day, he'd be waiting for her outside the clinic to walk with her until she's safely inside her apartment.
She never bothered to ask why he does this and why he's always around, because it was only lately that she gets to see that serene look on the former rogue ninja's face.
And she likes that, for she has always desired to see him that happy.
"Sakura."
"Hmm?" They were walking towards her house one night when Sasuke halted his steps.
"I..." Love you. "Uh. Never mind."
She gave him a puzzled look but he just looked away and suddenly resumed walking, this time, a bit ahead of her.
She just shrugged it off, respecting it whenever he needed his space or time of silence. He's Sasuke Uchiha anyway. And that's nothing unusual for him to be out of words.
"Goodnight, Sasuke-kun." She smiled and turned to look at him after unlocking her apartment's door.
And with a simple nod, he left and headed to his own place. Maybe next time, he thought, a bit disappointed to himself that for once in his life, he was quite afraid.
It's been three months since he came back and made it his personal commitment to make sure she's always safe. Since then, he desired to maximize getting to spend time with her, yet he couldn't bring himself to say three simple words that he had realized were the mere explanation as to why his heart longed for something missing when he was on his journey of redemption.
"What in the world, Sasuke-kun?" Sakura laughed one afternoon they were both released early from their usual workloads.
He arched an eyebrow at her while trying his best to stifle a laugh as well. He didn't find what he did funny, it was kind of just a normal Uchiha Sasuke thing, but it was her musical laugh that was too contagious that caused him to almost release his own cackle.
"You left Naruto sleeping with his mouth open in the Forest of Death!" She continued to laugh, returning his phone that contained the photo the Uchiha jonin (yes, finally) had taken just a few minutes ago.
He rolled his eyes and stared at her clutching her stomach, with the photo probably still etched in her mind. "It wasn't my fault he slept while he's on a mission that I ended up doing the task alone. Tch. That dobe."
"You won't tell this to Kakashi-sensei, will you?" She asked, amused with his playful revenge. At least, it wasn’t the kind of revenge that urges him to make some mad declaration about destroying Konoha anymore.
He shrugged. "Oh, yeah? He may or may not have received a copy of it already."
And then she cackled again. A grin appeared on Sasuke's lips as he watched her lean at him for support. Everything seems light with her around, that's something he wouldn't and couldn’t deny.
"Sakura?"
"Yup?" She responded when her cackle died down.
"Uhm, I..." Love you. "...want to invite you in my apartment for dinner, if you don't mind." His lips curled up into a small smile.
"You're inviting me to dinner?" She crossed her arms on her chest. "Or you're inviting me to cook for you so you wouldn't have anything to do?"
"Duh. It's the other way around, silly." He snorted.
"Wait, you are cooking for me?"
"H-hey!" He tried to swat her hand that suddenly reached for his forehead.
The pink-haired maiden continued to tease. "You're not sick, are you?"
He heaved a sigh, feigning irritation. "Just tell me if you'd take advantage of this time to rest because I'm gonna do the work for you."
Sakura's musical laugh filled his ears again. "Duh, you already got me when you said 'dinner'."
"Got you, huh? Then let's go!" A grin appeared on his lips when he grabbed her hand and ran with her towards his place, leaving Sakura blushing as she stared at their hands.
Sasuke prepared the ingredients of their meal in the kitchen while Sakura was seated on the couch. If this was how it would look like if they become husband and wife, he wouldn't mind. He felt his cheeks suddenly warm up at the thought.
"Do you need help?" Sakura almost startled him when she suddenly appeared on his side.
"I..." Love you. Shoot. Not that. He cleared his throat. "...guess so." He then gave in so they could make the work faster.
"And then you said you'd do the work for me." Sticking her tongue out, Sakura grabbed a knife to begin chopping some of the vegetables on the counter.
He smirked. "At least I'm doing you a favor of being able to eat immediately."
"Ah, shut up and let's finish this then!" He laughed softly at her remark.
Sakura bit her lip and smiled when he heard him release a laugh. It was rare, yet she always feels victorious whenever she hears him like that and sees him smile, especially because of her.
It's been seven months of spending time with Sakura and Sasuke's own thoughts still bug him to the core. Maybe there's no need to tell her his feelings and just let his actions speak for him, but then, he remembered that any girl wouldn't just end up married with a guy without laying his intentions andhim speaking a single word. At the end of the day, he still needed to let her know.
But how? Every time he tried to open up about what he feels for her, he abruptly gets tongue-tied. It was kind of embarrassing, really, for it was entirely a new thing to the Uchiha Sasuke. Who would have thought that a shinobi as topflight and ferocious as him would end up tongue-tied, standing awkwardly with sweaty palms while he’s in front of a petite pink-haired girl? He never thought that such a day would come.
Sakura remembered how she never bothered asking Sasuke about them. She was already well-content with what they have – if they even have something. But in the course of how many months, she has seen different sides of Sasuke that he never showed to anyone. She appreciates that slow yet radical change in him. Ever since, that’s what she has always wanted, for him to finally open up to the people who care about him so they could carry his burdens with him. And somehow, as much as she didn’t want to presume, she couldn’t help but feel rather special knowing that there are things that Sasuke only shares or does with her.
She was sure that there are also things that he opens up to Naruto only, or just to their former sensei. However, it doesn’t take a genius to know that those two could easily fall into the categories of Sasuke’s friends, brother-figure, and father-figure. Sakura, on the other hand, didn’t know the category she belongs to. Regardless of this, she still absolutely values whatever relationship they have now, to the point that she was afraid that if she asks him anything about it, she might push a different button and end up ruining everything that they were slowly able to build.
Until one Saturday, the guy she has always loved came to her doorstep and asked if she wanted to go out since it’s their rest day.
"Nothing, really. I just...want to spend time." Sasuke answered with a nervous smile when she asked him why.
For some reason, she thought that his smile was far from those genuine ones she has seen in the past few months. And for a moment, fear crept in her mind.
What if he decides to end whatever they have now? What if he's gonna tell her he's leaving again? Or announce to her that sure, they had a lot of fun in the last seven months, but it still wasn't what he was looking for, and she still wasn't enough for him?
"Earth to Sakura," he suddenly uttered when she just stood there by the door, lost in her own trail of thoughts as she stared at the raven-haired guy she had waited to come back for years after the Fourth Shinobi World War.
"O-oh, yeah, sure." She grinned. That's when he beamed like the recent usual way, taking away all the worries that gave a pang in her chest just a few moments ago.
He entwined his fingers with hers – a gesture that seemed quite natural to them recently, despite her lack of understanding about his motives – and started pacing through the streets. He really had no specific place in mind. But he thought that the right time he was waiting for was actually just around the corner.
He was terrified that if he keeps on delaying, she would just be swept away from him, something he would never allow to happen. He would never push her away again, instead, he would pull her closer, so close she wouldn't find any reason to let go.
"Have a seat, Miss Haruno," he uttered when they reached a cliff with a bench facing the vast cerulean waters almost outside the boundaries of Hidden Leaf.
Her eyes sparkled as she took in the beautiful view in front of them. But as he stared at her, he knew she was the most beautiful view he has ever seen.
And then she chuckled as she remembered how Sasuke was too much of a gentleman with his words earlier. "I'm not used to you being like this." She said, also referring about the kind of Sasuke she was with in the past months.
He then sat on the bench as she did the same. Turning to her with a smirk, he said, "Well, you better get used to it now...and for the rest of your life."
"Huh?"
There was a long silence as she looked at him with a puzzled expression written all over her face.
It's now or never, the raven-haired guy thought a few moments after. He exhaled deeply, eyes blazing even without the Sharingan, and then he finally said, "Sakura, marry me."
"S-sas..." Is the man she has always loved really proposing now?
He continued with an intent gaze at the girl in front of him, "I realized this has always been the right way of restoring my clan, not any sort of revenge, justification, or whatever non-sense. If I were to restart the Uchiha clan, I want it to begin with a strong sincere bond like you and I have.”
In a flash, he suddenly remembered all those times that he had tried so hard to sever his bonds with Team 7, especially to Sakura, the one who went out of her way to stop him from leaving many years ago on his last few steps away from Konoha. But he now knows that it’s futile, because what they all have is something akin to a family, something close to the one he had lost so many years ago. Who wouldn’t want to keep such bonds?
“And I don't want anybody else to restore my clan with, Sakura,” He admitted genuinely. "I wouldn't mind if my children would have pink hair as long as their mama is you." He chortled, making her gasp with a blush. "But really, the only woman I would want to journey with for the rest of my life is you. I want to give you my last name, Sakura. Would you be willing to accept it and carry it behind your back?" He smiled with his eyes fixed on hers, so glad that he finally got to let all those genuine words out for her to hear.
However, somewhere deep down those onyx orbs was a little slice of doubt swimming towards their surface, one that he wanted to keep hidden until he hears her answer.
Sakura was parsing everything that he had said, making sure that she wasn’t merely hearing things. She bit her lip as her eyes started brimming with tears.
But then, anxiety won in swimming past doubt towards the surface of Sasuke’s eyes. He blinked through his inner panic at the sight of Sakura tearing up. Did I say anything wrong? Shoot. Was it too romantic? Or too insensitive? Did I hurt her again?
"Dang it." She chuckled with her tears – tears that are, this time, not brought by heartbreak due to unrequited love nor agony due to uncertainty of her lover’s return. It was as if her heart was gonna explode with all the joy it bears right now. "As if you don't know my answer to that, Sasuke-kun."
He tilted his head to one side. After all that he has done to her and many others, he didn't want to assume. He needed to hear from her and he knew that only her confirmation would bring his breathing back to its normal pace right now.
Rolling her eyes, Sakura then said, "It's a yes, silly." She bit her lip again, as if it would help in stopping the crimson stain from appearing on her cheeks. “It’s always been yes if it’s you.”
Sasuke was at a loss for words with his mouth opening and then closing again. He didn't know that there would be something better than the warmth and happiness he has been feeling in his heart because of her. The fact that she would now be fully his, and vice versa, made him realize that even after losing everything before, it wasn’t the end for him for he could start again – he could love again, and this time, create his own family.
If this is what real love does then he wouldn't ever want to let go.
He then smiled, and caught her in his tight embrace as he muttered the three words he never imagined he would actually say to someone, the three words he has always wanted to tell her.
"Pardon?" Sakura suddenly said when he pulled away.
Now it was his turn to roll his eyes. "Oh yeah? You heard it."
"Wow, the attitude." She crossed her arms and smirked. "I didn't. So, come again?"
Astounding her, her now fiancé stood from the bench and turned his back on her, about to walk away. "You've proposed with quite a lot of words and that short statement I didn't catch can't come out of your lips now?" She continued to challenge, a smirk not leaving her face. "Nice one, Uchi—"
"I love you," he cut her off and stated, simply yet genuinely without facing her as he tried to conceal the redness of his pale face. "I love you, Sakura." But he was smiling. Finally, he said it out loud. He never thought it would give him such a pleasant feeling just releasing those words from his lips.
And then, she beamed so widely it might cut through her cheeks. She rushed towards him and hugged him from behind, thinking about how all her waiting throughout these years were indeed not in vain. "Guess what? I love you too."
He smiled even wider, something that you would rarely see from Sasuke Uchiha.
Yep, he's not letting go.

Thank you, fellow SasuSaku Fans😢❤️
Four months ago, after an unexpected surgery for the removal of my appendix, I started watching Boruto and rewatching Naruto during my recovery period (and yup, it was only last year that I learned how SasuSaku became canon🙃 I was in Elementary when Naruto was ongoing and I immediately shipped them but yeah, I just learned about them being canon at 24 years old!🤣).
I wasn’t only recovering physically that time for there had been lots of things going on in my personal life as well. Hence, I started writing (finally! After years of setting my second passion aside!) short stories again – this time, fanfics about SasuSaku – and compiled them in this book on Wattpad. It has been highly therapeutic for me. But I never really imagined this to get much support and to have readers who are as excited as I am to see new content every/every other week.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you! I could still remember being so ecstatic when it became #1 out of 101 stories on a different hashtag by the end of last year, but now, #17 out of 1,000 stories, really???😭 It also has 3K+ reads now, something I didn’t expect to happen within four months! Praise God!❤️
I’m still learning, and I’m excited to keep on growing as a writer as I keep on writing SS one shots. I really pray that my works would touch your hearts and make you smile in any way! I’ve already started posting here on Tumblr and also on FF.net and I’m so grateful for the support my works have been receiving and for the new friends I’m getting to meet as well!✨
