i just realised something. the whole oceangate thing mirrors the titanic in more than just the obvious ways.

in the titanic, they prioritised saving the rich people, the ones from first class. because of that, most of the people who died were poor, from second and third class.

now, my point is, we once again, ignored the poor people/prioritised the rich ones, this time with the refugee ship being almost complete ignored by the media and rescue teams exclusively trying to save the 5 rich guys instead of the 750 refugees.

I don't care if people on the left (which I consider myself to be) disagree with me about this: yes, billionaires absolutely suck, but I wouldn't wish this kind of death on anyone, and it's just not something I feel comfortable making or seeing jokes about. (Even for people the world would undeniably be a better place without, death via implosion under the sea that's anticipated for hours and hours and hours beforehand is a particularly horrifying way to do it.)

Were they shitty, tactless, exploitative people? Yes. Should they have just fucking stayed on dry land instead? Yes. Did they deserve to die like this? No. (Especially not the 19 year old, who was scared to go, but went because he didn't want to disappoint his dad.)

The closest one to "deserving it" is the Oceangate CEO, who ignored (and then fired) the whistle-blower who flagged the safety problems, and skirted regulations and inspections for the sake of "innovation." That is despicable. It's gross negligence, and gambling with people's lives to cosplay as the coolest ocean scientist and save a few bucks.

A gamble he lost for himself, and unfortunately others. Others who had to have been convinced that it WAS safe, and had been successfully tested to withstand those depths. Do you think if they knew the complete truth, they would have gotten on? They were lied to. They could not give genuine informed consent.

Yeah, the fact that we live in a world where the top 0.1% seek experiences like going to the Titanic and up into space just because they don't know how else to spend their hoards of stolen cash, or what else can actually thrill them anymore, is fucked up. But everyone deserves to know the truth when it comes to their safety, and make their decisions from that place. Everyone.

I understand that empathy has been reduced because of their systemic lack of empathy for us; like, I do get WHY people are reacting like this. And if Muskrat crashes his Tesla tomorrow, I'm not gonna shed any tears about it. But the method of death was horrific and cruel and terrifying. And I just can't find it funny, no matter who it happens to.

This was a tragedy--an avoidable, morally complex one, but a tragedy involving human beings nonetheless.

I'm not crying, but I'm certainly not laughing.

I love these albums to death

There’s so much heart in each of these covers(and I mean for obvious reasons). Two albums made for suicide prevention. And at least for me these albums did help me through a lot of hard times.

I remember when the first released in 2018 and being so fucking excited to see Dream State on there, and let alone an LP cover. Then seeing others like Against Me! and Dance Gavin Dance on there made me get even more excited. And finally getting into it I found so many more bands. Although I hadn’t checked their music out at that point, the “Losing My Religion” cover by Movements is so well done. And that “Such Great Heights” cover by As It Is is perfect. Also kinda ashamed to say I didn’t realize that Too Close To Touch was on here and their rendition of “Let It Be” is amazing.

Then the second volume released and seeing Silverstein, Mayday Parade, and Sharptooth throw their hats in the ring, I was just so happy to see the project continued. “Drops of Jupiter” by With Confidence is such a great tribute to the original. “Trust” by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is such a beautiful acoustic rendition of Thrice’s classic. And props to Trash Boat’s “Given Up” for A. Giving me the same shivers LP’s version gives me and for B. Hitting that scream(you know the one).

Just in all these albums are great. If you’ve not checked them out before give them a listen. Artists putting their all into some amazing covers.

Oh hell, which was the right answer here? Khare pursed her lips as she pondered River's question. It was the first time in a while that she'd seen the other woman come back to the diner which was nice, Khare was glad to see her again but she couldn't quite put a finger on what felt off. River seemed to be well fortunately, other than... was that a limp? No, River seemed fine, and there was a bit of a lull right now in the flow of customers so it was nice to catch up, even play a game or two. Khare realized at this moment she didn't know diddly squat about River and the more time that passed, the more it became apparent. Still, that didn't mean she didn't want to try and River had always been kind to her even if maybe gave her a bit of a side eye when being seated. Did River like to travel by boat? It would be punny if she did, being named River and all but Khare didn't think that was the right answer. One time they met outside the diner, it was by Gotham Bay and River looked positively antsy. It wasn't so bad once you got past the smell, but maybe she liked bodies of water elsewhere? "I'm going with that you're not a fan of travelling on boats. That's not to say you eat like a dumpster though," Khare added quickly when she remembered the first of the three statements. Would she really eat anything that wasn't tied down and uncooked? She did look like she worked out... a lot, so Khare brightened, raising a finger knowingly. "But I understand! you must work out a lot to keep such a great figure, so that means... brown's your favourite colour? Funny, I could have sworn it was red..." She didn't know why she thought that, it just didn't seem like brown was a favourite colour of many people. Maybe back in the 70's perhaps, but River was her age or younger... wasn't she? Jerry's voice hollered from the kitchens stating River's breakfast was ready to collect so Khare jumped up to grab it, setting the still-sizzling plate of delicious meat before her customer. Something tasty that was most certainly cooked, as it should be.

To preface all of this I DID NOT MEAN TO TAKE THIS LONG AND THE LENGTH IS DEFINITELY NOT RELATED TO IT. I just completely got lazy and as such, forgot to answer it.

But okay tl;dr: They do but its dependent on the ship. NJ is a "lucky" one who, because she's still a ship that didn't sink, isn't really affected too much. At least what we've been told far (And honestly my HC too but I'll explain below)

SO YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND something about basically 99% of the characters in this game with a few outliers who bend the rules. For a game that tends to break the rules often about "historical accuracy" for the sake of making money (And selling incredibly overpriced L2D skins) the developer Manjuu once and awhile actually does a rather good job at giving characters who you would just think are like walking "waifus" an odd amount of characterization.

Practically every shipgirl in this game is (or at least in some capacity) is aware of what's going to happen to them in actual history. Whether they sunk during a war or something else entirely is dependent on who it is. Think of it almost like a premonition in a sense, although obviously some characters who's wreckage have never been found or other things entirely are other cases.

To put it in perspective a bit and an example the IJN Nagato says this...

Which is a reference to the fact that, by the end of WW2, the actual ship was used as a testing grounds for nuclear weapons. The character itself (Nagato not the ship) also keeps those same sentiments as well, not exactly enjoying fighting but knowing that it needs to happen in the case of the AL story because...well you know the bad guys are screwing everything.

Beyond their own lore reasons I do feel that every character in some capacity is definitely scared of sinking. Not that they are thinking about it 24/7 and for obvious reasons that I don't think I need to bring up but you get the idea. Sinking means your at the bottom of the ocean and being "dead". I could go on forever analyzing every character in this game especially my favorites and what they fear.

...I MEAN AS FINE AS SHE COULD BE BUT YEAH. There are other characters that I write that have certainly seen better days and definitely would apply to your question more with the fear scenario but beyond that NJ is much more saner and not gungho crazy like some of the others.
