I've been avoiding posting just so that Ulrich's ref could be my 100th POST. RAHHH. WOOO IT'S DONE!!

For anyone whose new to seeing this man, his name is Ulrich Althaus (Ulrich Mephisto Althaus if we're referring to him in other canons). He's a Technical Lead for Joja Corporations, and despite being introverted, he can come off as rather judgmental to people who don't know him well enough to understand how he speaks. He's around 18 years old when he first arrives in the Republic itself, finding himself staying around Downtown Zuzu for a while. He's somewhere in his late 20s/early 30s when he stations himself in the valley itself and tries to gather the resources to set up a Joja Brand tech store. In his mind, he truly, deeply believes that Joja can help benefit the valley. He ends up having rose-tinted glasses over the company for the longest time, and gradually has those viewpoints shattered the longer he stays within the valley. Of course, I plan on building his lore up gradually and through slow answers here and there, so I'm really trying not to spew out too much :3 also he's ungodly picky i mean he hates more than the average farmer LMFAO. bro has most of the universal hates too

More general description stuff/expansion stuff (fair warning its long):

 Ulrich's personality is a fascinating one. He feels as though he has a reputation to uphold, and will often shut down most, if not all critique coming toward him unless they are genuine. He often-times does not stand for attacks on his own character. Usually though, he’s the one giving critique to others, but it mostly comes off as insults rather than from a genuine place of concern due to how blunt he is. The way he phrases things tends to be derogatory in nature due to his lack of filter. He tends to get annoyed when people act offended, and genuinely doesn’t understand why they took his concern the way they did.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of feeling he has to constantly uphold a reputation, he is quite the perfectionist. It's difficult for him to accept his own mistakes without shutting down and having to distance himself from the situation awhile. To put it simply, he feels like he’s failed those around him through his errors. While he gives others the opportunity to correct their margin of error, he would never give himself that leeway. 

Due to Ulrich’s lack of social understanding, he tends to struggle at fraternizing with others and oftentimes misses obvious jokes or sarcasm within sentences. He is particularly bad at this when matched with tone through text, and will often find himself over-explaining something that didn’t need to be explained to begin with just to be met with “blah blah blah its a joke”. Though his lack of tonal understanding is better in person, he can still be found occasionally left confused and bewildered at interactions.  

Speaking of social scenarios with Ulrich, he is relatively introverted, and prefers brief interactions with strangers in person as to not burn himself out. He prefers interactions with little to no people around, and in general much prefers spaces with little to no activity. This is one of many reasons which his line of work involves remote involvement and virtual meetings on his end. While this issue does not present itself in online chatrooms, he still finds himself burnt out of interaction occasionally if he’s had to speak to those hes unfamiliarized with for too long. 

To those he’s come to know, however, he can be a rather clingy, overprotective individual who wishes for nothing more than to be there for the ones he’s come to love. His clingy nature comes from a place of fear, as he doesn’t want to go through losing someone else he’s come to grow close to. Though, he can be a bit overbearing at points. 

Other Likes:  

 - He highly enjoys programming, creating things from scratch through the languages he knows,  and being able to experience anything which was decently coded. He’s actually a total nerd for video games and especially for computer viruses. He loves being able to dissect things like that. 

He enjoys heavy metal music and EDM. His playlist can be a jumpscare for those entirely oblivious to his music tastes.

He enjoys hiking and exploring alone in his free-time. Its relaxing for him to be able to get out and exercise in any way he can. 

He’s a total dork for mythology and the study of all things surrounding mythological creatures. 

He gets overly hyper during the festival of the moonlight jellies 

He’d never actually admit it, but he really likes dancing, the art behind dancing, and is a decent dancer himself. 

Other Dislikes: 

He has a phobia of needles

He’s outright terrified of Krampus. His father told him ONE tale for bedtime and it forever sealed his fate. 

He dislikes overly loud and obnoxious individuals, finding them quick to drain him. 

He dislikes summer, finding himself overheating easily in the harsh sun

Despite being a Joja employee, he somewhat holds disdain for the way a majority of the branches are run. 

Geese. I don’t need to explain this one, I’m sure it’s justifiable.

Strengths:

One of Ulrich’s greatest strengths is how agile he is. Being relatively skilled on his feet, he is able to run away from most confrontations. Of course, he’d find that shameful, so instead he uses this agility of his to get to and from places at concerning speeds. He might have knee issues, but that doesn't mean he's not fast as fuck.

He's a total computer nerd. Got a tech problem? He’s probably your guy to help out. 

He’s a surprisingly good chef

He was also taught a decent amount of fishing by his father, making him decent at it. 

He’s very outspoken about how he feels regarding any given situation

Weaknesses:

He’s ass at farming. Do not make this man do farmwork, you’ll regret it deeply. Please PLEASE don’t make this man do farm work.

He has the depth perception of a literal toddler. If he’s running somewhere, there’s a 50% chance he’ll slam into a pole on the way there.

As stated in his bio, he has difficulty in social situations. This can make bonding with others difficult, and causes him his fair share of conflict. Especially when he mistakes a joke as a snide remark and starts to comment about how it shouldn’t have been said and it spirals out of control.

He’s stubborn to a fault. He has a very stern set of morals which are hard to bend. Not only that, but his strict internal code causes him to react oddly to anything which bends it even slightly, causing even MORE conflict on his part. 

He’s very outspoken about how he feels regarding any given situation

As I mentioned yesterday, I was thinking about doodling some of my Stardew AU characters! Well, you know what? I did it. And YES, I did it DURING calculus work. you also get a funny doodle with each one

From top to bottom with a brief summary of who they are (ulrich doesnt get a big one because he's the star of my stardew fixation rn); Ulrich Althaus, the main loser drawn on my blog and the Technical Lead for Joja Corporations. I have a few posts answering questions about him :3 Apollo Nephus, one of my Adventurer Guild members! He fights with a ribbon which ignites with magical flames and his combat style is similar to ribbon dancing. Nobody quite understands how he manages to make it work, but he does! He's rather quiet and introverted, but by no means does that mean he won't speak his mind if need be. Bro has absolutely put people in their place then walked off as if nothing happened. Shay! He's a banshee who resides in the secret woods. Sometimes, in the late of night, residents of the surrounding towns can swear they hear shrill screams in the evening. This is almost 100% due to utterly stupid shenanigans he got himself into rather than any death being announced. I imagine it keeps people on edge about the secret woods, however. He doesn't really get the chance to interact with others often, but when he does, he's a rather brotherly figure who enjoys playfully teasing whoever he interacts with. also he is a homie to the junimos. loves the lil guys.

Okay, so I'm revisiting the concept of Demon Morris because my brainrot goes in circles once every month and like

I've been thinking of how his design would be in my world lore. Gluttony demons are commonly buglike in theme in my head and like,,,,

so i present the audience with one alternative design;

moth morris. i walk off, there is applause, i bow. He'd be based off of the white ribboned carpet moth, and due to dimorphism would be slightly larger than usual. He can fly, he can flutter, and he gets to places like no other.

(🖤) how does your farmer feel about krobus? He currently isn't aware of the existence of the silly sewer creature. However, if he did know of Krobus's existence he'd be fascinated. He's a huge mythology geek and adores reading about magical creatures and things of the sort, being able to see one in person that wasn't trying to kill him would literally cause such a jolt of energy to burst through him. He'd ask Krobus SO many questions if they met, and he'd definitely respect the lifestyle he has. (🍷 ) what is your farmer's main way of making money? After resigning from Joja Corporation his main way of making money became doing odd programming jobs online and scouring for a more permanent position somewhere that valued him. For a while, he chose to stick to his comfort zone, uncertain of how to approach the agricultural angle which Pelican Town thrived on. Eventually, he eases himself into producing artisan goods through ducks and a variety of other animals. He also sells minerals he finds during excursions through the mines, and fish! ( ❌️ ) what are their hated gifts? Pickles, Beer (He likes Pale Ale), Mayonnaise, Coleslaw, Fried Eel, Escargot, Hashbrowns, Algae Soup, Fish Stew, Any flavor of Joja Cola, Goat Milk, Jelly (Strawberry Jelly is liked!), Wild Horseradish, Slime, Bug Meat, and All Universal Hates with the exception of fish ( ❤️ ) what are their loved gifts?

┊﹕⊹・Of course you may! Thank you so much for the ask! :3 (obligatory warning that I can be a bit wordy) Also a lot of this will be touching up on both his pre-character development and post-character development (aka the "joja sucks why did i do that to myself" era).

(🌶️) how do they feel about becoming a farmer? After resigning from his position at Joja Corporation due to coming to terms with the horrendous working conditions him and many other middle-management and low-ranking positions were being put through, I imagine he wanted to give back to the community in some way, so he started participating in helping with local produce. Of course, he was understandably nervous. He was used to staying inside all day doing coding work and other technical operations. It was foreign ground for him, and he stressed for days before making a plan as to how he'd approach the farming life. Despite growing up in a rural area and being taught the basics of cultivating crops, he is genuinely shit at doing so. Like- this man has the opposite of a green thumb. It seems like everything he touches dies and there's not a sliver of hope for him. He probably sticks to artisan goods and animal products for a long time before attempting to step out of his comfort zone. (🌽) what are their favorite crops of each season? His favorite Spring crops are Blue Jazz flowers and Strawberries! His favorite Summer crops are Starfruit, Poppies, and Hot Peppers! Finally, his favorite Fall crops are Pumpkins and Fairy Roses.

(🐶) do they choose the dog or the cat? The cat! Sometime along his story he ends up taking in a tiny black and white cat whom he lovingly names mouse. (☃️) how do they spend their time during winter?

Ulrich spends his winters exploring the mines and fishing if he feels up to it. If its snowing particularly hard that day, he'll stay inside huddled against a heater for dear life because he tends to get chilled really easily.

(💵 ) what are your farmer's thoughts on joja?

Ulrich starts off blindly trusting the company, wanting nothing more than to continue proving himself in the position he worked so hard for. Working for Joja gave him something to do, something to focus on that wasn't so depressing or monotonous. At the beginning of his story, he was a Technical Lead for over 5+ years for the company, he truly wanted to look up to them for their advancements and what they chose to offer to smaller areas. Once his rose colored lenses break, however, he realizes just how much harm the company has done in the long-run, and how negative the work environment truly was. He realizes how those around him in other departments were so negatively affected and starts truly coming to terms with how awful the corporation is. He hates Joja for playing him as a fool, and for taking advantage of the fact that he didn't know what truly ethical work conditions were. He hates them for never giving him lean-way with his physical issues and despises their dishonest practices. Along with that, I imagine he had to live with the fact that he had given them so much work just to receive nowhere near what he should've in the end. All in all, it leaves a bad taste in his mouth.

I've been waiting for the opportunity to talk about him more! I'll be writing some of these in a pre and post character arc sense since he tended to treat things vastly different before improving upon himself and interacting with the valley more.

(also sorry in advance, i have the tendency to ramble and this'll probably be long LOL)

🏙️ how was your farmer's life like before they moved to pelican town?

Before Ulrich moved to the valley, he lived in a rural village in Germany with his mother and sister! He was a bit of an overachiever and was always fixated on technology and how machines ran. I'd say before his father's passing his life was pretty rudimentary. In fact, he had what you could consider a fairytale-like childhood. His parents weren't perfect, but they both did the best for him.

After his dad passed, he found it difficult to cope. For years, he struggled with his mental health due to the event and found himself shutting down, away from the world in an attempt to escape from such a cruel reality.

Somewhere around his 20s he came to the conclusion that he wanted to start anew, give himself something else to focus on and change the direction of his life. He first moved to Downtown Zuzu and applied to Joja Corp for a technical position. After a few years of continued cooperation and effort on his part, he managed to receive the role of Technical Lead. He overworked and outperformed as best he could never quite learning how much he should've been taking on.

I actually imagine the initial reason for him moving to Pelican Town was due to him seeing opportunity in the area. It reminded him of his home town, and he wanted nothing more than to help them flourish. He wanted to make a name for himself, and wanted to prove efficient and competent in his field. He proposed to his HRs that he'd be able to enact a Joja Brand Tech Store within the small town, and sough to do just that.

👔 what do they think about morris?

Ulrich actually started off disliking Morris. He found him to be too absorbed in his own beliefs and too stubborn to deal with. Being a Technical Lead and all Ulrich is in charge of Technical Audits and keeping things in order in varying Joja Corporation buildings. Upon visiting and doing all the checks needed, he actually ended up having an argument with Morris over upgrades needing to be done and things needing to be fixed. They're both stubborn and unrelenting, so it goes on for ages. For what seemed like months their relationship was simple. They bicker at each other, Ulrich makes little off-handed elegant, yet teasy remarks and snide jabs, Morris retorts either with a smile or a scowl, they go on about their day.

After finding a middle ground between the both of them, Ulrich started tolerating him more. There was a part of him which held the man in the utmost regard. You could even say there was a part that was fond of him. But why? Perhaps it was that enthusiasm toward his goals which drew him in? Or maybe it was simply the passion lacing each word of his, waiting eagerly for someone to interject so that more could be added on. That toleration became admiration, and that admiration became blossoming feelings toward the man from the other department.

🎉 what is your farmer's favorite festival?

Dance of the Moonlight Jellies is by FAR his favorite festival out of all of the other festivals. Ulrich has a number of sensory issues and finds that other festivals are just too overwhelming for him to be at for long periods of time. At the Moonlight Jelly festival he finds he's able to stay for the entire duration without ending up having to make an excuse to beeline out of the situation. Plus, he has a fondness for the nature he's able to see.

🙄 do they have anyone they openly dislike? why?

Ulrich starts off as coming off as if he openly dislikes most people who interact with him. He can come off as dismissive and uncaring at first, but he generally tries to stay neutral toward the townsfolk.

With that being said, he 1000% dislikes Penny. He was fine with her initially, but after seeing how she treated George in her second heart event (or in this case, how she treated him while Ulrich happened to be walking by one day), his neutrality turned into open disdain. Especially since with a mobility aid, he's able to put himself in George's shoes. ESPECIALLY since telling her off caused a major friendship drain.

He also doesn't like Lewis in the slightest and finds him to be a pathetic excuse of a mayor.

🌈 how do they react when they find their first prismatic shard? what do they do with it?

During one of his many risky ventures into the mines, he'd unintentionally come across one after slaying a monster within the mines. Naturally, he'd react in pure astonishment, curious as to what the hell had happened. He's never been one to be considerably lucky, but would know what just happened to him was real fuckin' crazy. He'd probably keep it on display in his home, confused as to what to do with it.

His sister would be the one to tell him about some myth regarding the Galaxy Sword and he'd go to the pillars just to disprove such a ridiculous sounding thing. Imagine his shock when the sword dropped right in front of his feet.
