Watching the first episode of Ultraman Ace, well skimming actually, and like Hokuto and Yuko are both adorable and it's now, actually watching the show, that I realize this is an implicit marriage, they got matching rings and all, come on!

I genuinely cannot get over how in Ultraman Ace, a television show made in 1972 that had the gimmick of the titular superhero being two people; a man named Seiji Hokuto and a woman named Yuko Minami. The show tried to portray them both as equally important members of the cast and equally vital to the whole superhero thing.

And in the 2015 ULTRAMAN reboot despite adapting the character of Ultraman Ace, it had only Seiji Hokuto as said hero. Yuko Minami has a grand total of 6 panels throughout the entire now 18 volume series in which she is just portrayed as Seiji’s motivation

How do you manage to make something more misogynistic than a children’s show made in the 70’s

#Yuko was written out halfway through due to parents complaining about one of the heroes being a woman #But until the halfway point in the series she was just as important as Seiji #And I think it isn’t ridiculous to expect better from a series made 40 years later
