I had a bit of a hard day today, thinking about my AvPD diagnosis and getting more into what it really means for me and how much it actually affects me, and how little resources I have since AvPD isn't researced much. I felt really set back on my recovery because of more things that I realized about myself and my struggles, but I have to remind myself it's not true. I've made a lot of progress, and as many say, recovery isn't linear.

Recovery, in fact, for anyone struggling with mental health, is like having a messy house. It can be anything from slightly cluttered to seemingly unsalvageable. And you're starting to clean it, and you're so overwhelmed- where do you even start? And maybe you only have a few cleaning supplies, like a paper towel and some soap and water.

But you should try cleaning anyway. Making the effort is better than doing nothing. And sometimes, you'll be able to find more cleaning supplies on the way to cleanliness that'll help aid you.

It doesn't end at cleaning, however. In order to have a clean house you must maintain it as clean so that it doesn't get bad again. And that's how I think recovery should work. It's a long process and it never stops- you'll always be working on yourself, and that's fine.

I know it's hard. I've been there, I am there right now on this day. Cleaning my house seems impossible right now. But it's okay to remind yourself that you can take breaks from cleaning to do other things that make you happy, or to quit temporarily if you're frustrated. That's fine, as long as you promise yourself to come back later.

Please hang in there. I know you'll be able to clean your house some day, even if it's a few years from now. It's always worth trying, you'll never get better if you don't try. And we all deserve to have a clean house.

Sure is! In North America there’s our big sister organization the Royal Canadian Office for the Esoteric, and Mexico’s Secretariat of Extranormal Resources. In Britain it’s His Majesty’s Esoteric Services. Many other countries have their own, depending on the region. The European Thaumaturgical Centre for Research and Analysis (ETCetRA) also does a lot more hands on work in Europe than it does here, as you might imagine from the name.

Hi everyone! Sorry for inactivity, I'm actually doing very good and I've been stable for about a year. I'm working on a new essay, another character analysis, but since it's more indepth than my last one it'll take a while. It's not about AvPD, but actually an NPD head canon that I have for a character! But I wanted to go into it because I relate a lot to it, and I want people to see how AvPD and NPD overlap, and hopefully to show NPD in a positive light. I'm excited and hope you guys enjoy it when it comes out!

Laurence and Doubling Down.

Okay, so, I’ve noticed a coincidental trend in the way I read the Bloodborne timeline, concerning Laurence, and I just wanted to jot it down.

Whenever Laurence looses someone or something, he doesn’t shink away from the thing that caused that seperation. He embraces it.

In regards to the Fishing Hamlet- the finding of proof that the Great Ones are real and the violence that comes with that discovery, he doesn’t take a break to reconsider, he jumps straight into injecting their blood into his veins.

After Rom’s ascension (which I assume wasn’t... pleasant) he leaves the college to persue that kind of research further.

I believe Maria’s death lead to the closure of the Rearch Hall but not the discontinuation of that sort or malpractice (as seen in the Orphanage). Maria’s death also removed Laurence’s personal connection to Cainhurst, allowing him to send the executioners to massacre them for personal gain. Now he doesn’t have to justify himself to anyone.

The Burning of Old Yharnam and the creation of The Dream are another example of this to me. He seems to be hesitant about both of these events, but commits regardless. And later further places his faith in the Beast’s Embrace rune and the stealing of Mergo.

To me, Laurence cannot accept the possibility that he could be wrong about the blood or his methods, even when it’s staring him directly in the face. He lies to himself and those around them to keep up this facade that he knows what he’s doing. The Church and it’s optics of divinity masking its seedy, grimy, medical practices exemplify this, it’s a show.

Yet in his growing desperation and progressive loss of memory, I can ABSOLUTLY see him start to believe his own propaganda- that there is no other way, ascension has to be through the blood and these experiments or everyone around him bled and died for nothing.
