Yeah people usually envision haunted houses as older because there's more time for bad stuff to happen there, but given that 'the dead can't cross running water' is a pretty common lore element, I propose, modern houses with indoor plumbing have too many water pipes. In the Old Kingdom books it's even specified that the dead can't pass under aqueducts also so the waterway doesn't have to be open. When the Old Kingdom figures out showers it's over for necromancers

Okay but as horrid as Riko is… if he’d ever been met with an ounce of kindness he would have gotten a redemption arc. The whole point of the Foxes is that people deserve and should receive second, third, fourth, as many chances as they need. I mean, just look at Seth. In a story like that I think it’s a disservice to dismiss the fact that Riko deserved those chances too. He had all the privilege in the world so long as it stayed within his gilded cage. He was just as stuck as Neil and Kevin and Jean. That didn’t give him the right to do what he did, but he had his own abusers and his own neglect and Kevin was likely the only person in his life to ever even try to be nice to him and view him as a person and Kevin is Kevin (meaning if it was not exy, then it likely did not matter). I just think that if Riko was treated with kindness in the face of all his nastiness he might have found his way eventually.
I just see so much of Akito (Fruits Basket) in his character. He was told he was king, pressured to be the best or else, and ignored by the people he craved the attention and love of the most and beneath all that pressure he became cruel and reactive. The only real difference between Riko and Akito is Akito was given that unconditional acceptance and forgiveness (no matter how ‘undeserved’) and was forced to confront how wrong past actions had been. Akito got a redemption arc.

decided to pick my battles and not make it a Thing w my roommates (the three I share a bathroom with) that they kept leaving their damp used washcloths next to the toilet lately
turns out! don't i look like a fool! the toilet has been leaking on that one side for almost a month and they didn't want to tell me or the landlord bc they knew either way they'd have to talk to him and they don't like him!!
water! leaking! for almost a month!!!

periodic reminder to make sure you can turn all of your interior water shut off valves in your dwelling. give it a little turn to the left and then turn it back to the right. then set a reminder to do it again in three or four months

First big freeze of this winter starts tonight. I am reasonably confident I will not have a water related emergency this year.
*scowls at the ceiling* the only bad thing in the attic should be the wasps and they better die in the freeze
Anyway. the pipe in the attic should be freeze proof. It is shut off anyway. backyard faucet is covered up. frontyard faucet is covered up
I have heaters ready to stick in strategic spots for the kitchen & bathrooms, though all my water pipes run through interior walls which is a plus - kitchen is up against the garage though and the laundry is near the exterior wall though it's pipes are all on the interior/garage wall. My flood sensor in the kitchen is at 99% battery power so if something does go awry I should get a loud wakeup notification from my phone.
My fireplace has been tested and in good working order. So if the power goes out or the furnace goes out, I'll have a nice warm living room. And I do know from experience that the fireplace can keep the living room in the low 50s on it's own. There is wintery mix predicted for Sunday night/Monday early morning, and that always turns to ice on the streets so with any luck i won't need to drive in that.
Having had several winters in a row with some kind of disaster happen, I am prepared in case something happens. But hopefully it'll be nothing to worry about.

Welp... I figure out where the impending sense of doom I've been dealing with all day was coming from. The plumber came through for the clogged toilet I called in yesterday and just obliterated that bathroom. Chunks of shit stuck to all sides of this toilet, inside and out. Chunks of shit all over the floor. Shit water all over the floor in all 3 stalls and halfway to the sinks. Team lead called a coworker earlier(to the wrong building I might add) to mop up some water because the plumber told him there was a little on the floor but "it's not that bad"
On the bright side the sense of doom is just gone now. So at least there's that.
