Looking back at old fandom stuff and the #shutupgringo2020 tag some Hetalians were using was so weird because the main argument was that you couldn't critique Hetalia for having issues because America itself had race issues and racism???
We're y'all okay???

They targeted Hetalians. Hetalians. We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little fictional paradise of cute anime boy countries. We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun. We'll spend most if not all of our free time watching countries be the silly. Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: liking all the art, reading the same manga over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such Hetalia nirvana that they can literally read characters being gored and not bat an eye. Do these people have any idea how many tears have been cried, fanart drawn, fanfictions written? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights? These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our Hima? Hetalians aren't shy about finding other content, or even making the content our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've seen worse things in a fanfiction written by a thirteen-year-old girl. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex. Hetalians are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special; you're not original; you're not the first; this is just another #ShutUpGringo2020

I’m interested in latin hetalia, but I’m an usamerican. After the shutupgringo2020 thing are usamericans… allowed in the community? Both my parents are latin american immigrants. Is it sort of weird to be really involved in the community and enjoying the characters as someone not in latam? Weird question probably but. Idk
This is a little long so lets go for read more
Look, i see your concern so I'm gonna try and be as honest as possible. Maybe i'm being pessimistic, but hey, if i am you'll be pleasantly surprised, if i'm being realistic at least you'll know what to expect.
SO. No one is gonna stop you and i doubt they will be actively hostile towards you, but you gotta be prepared to hear some stuff about gringos in general that you might not like (though they'll probably not be directed to you), and you have to be ready to not take it to heart or your own fandom experience will end up miserable.
I'd also advise you to not use the fact that your parents are latin american are any sort of 'card' (idk how to explain it) because using latino heritage to insert yourself in a discussion as a latin american, and not as ustatian with a latin american family, tends to go very badly with people here. By all means talk about it, but context matters yk ?
Also, if you don't speak spanish or portuguese i doubt you'll be able to really participate in the community. If you're learning and willing to go out there i think everyone will be more than helpful and receptive, but if you expect people to talk in english with you you wont make many friends, specially outside of tumblr.
Overall, i'd say go for it, ustatians are very much 'allowed', just keep these things in mind.

Did anyone have 'Hetalia's comeback causes non-American fandom communities to finally, collectively rebel against the US' attitude, fake activism and savior complex through the ShutUpGringo2020 hashtag' on their 2020 bingo card?

ShutUpGringo2020
Tumblr media
Y, me siento patética por explicar esta mamada, pero viendo que hay gente que no lo sabía/ sabe, me veo en la necesidad de hacerlo, sí, en Latinoamérica hay gente blanca, más que nada por cuestiones del mestizaje que se llevo acabo durante la colonización y la migración europea;;
Pero también, hay que festejar que Hetalia regreso con todo, joder, amo este fandom, nunca mueran chicos, los amo
Basically the Latin American fandom, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Greek and many more from Italy got all the other fandom to unite against the SWJ, and they will tell their bad experiences with these
And before you start saying that gringo is xenophobic and racist, I tell you that nothing could be further from the truth, this word refers to a foreign person, it is usually attributed to people born in the United States, on twitter it is quite annoying that they want to explain OUR language, besides distorting its real meaning, do not pay attention to that, in the end who better than Latin Americans to explain the words that belong to them.
And, I feel pathetic for explaining this blowjob, but seeing that there are people who didn't know/ know, I feel the need to do it, yes, in Latin America there are white people, more than anything else because of the crossbreeding that took place during European colonization and migration;;
But also, we have to celebrate that Hetalia came back with everything, fuck, I love this fandom, never die guys, I love you

I just come from Twitter and I find savage how the tag began into Hetalia and morphed to include basically everyone who’s fucking sick of ppl from US policing everything?
I mean yeah, I’m fucking sick of gringos making discourse of basically everything if there’s drawings involved, but not caring about real ppl at all. I just, can’t believe so much people colectively lost their shit in one day? kinda proud tho
I’ve also seen ppl saying there’s anti-black discourse in the tag and honestly... all I’ve seen thus far is just people really mad cause some aparently think that gringo is a slur? - It’s not my dudes, just means “american”, it’s slang - and I’m pretty lost on that one tho. Maybe I haven’t gone deep enough? maybe they’re blocked?
Edit: Nevermind, I found it.

I’m upset that non hetalia fans are trying to cancel the next season because they think it glorifies fascism and imperialism :( I am sad to see the whole homestuck versus hetalia debate (or also jojo, aot and south park come in as comparison) to make a comeback. Sensitive issues and problems in the show have been discussed within the fandom for several years and people who didn’t respect specific cultures, heritages or historical/current events always got rightfully bashed. The #shutupgringo speaks for itself. This community is a place where people learn more about the world, languages, culture, history and is a place where people are making friends. If you haven’t seen or read hetalia, please educate yourself before you join in on any bandwagon.
Anyway, would someone perhaps mind sending some positivity along the way?

Omg I love latino twitter.
For those who don’t use twitter or don’t know what is happening in there I will do a resume here:
After the hetalia new season announcement many people from the united states started complaining about how problematic hetalia is and started to throw hate (and in some cases d*ath threats) to fans from the anime.
This ignited anger in the latino side of the fandom, so they came up with the #shutupgringo2020 to support the anime and to call out gringos and SJW who always try to be the “hero” and try to cancel anything that they don’t like.
(An example of this is that they tried to cancel hetalia bc it apparently shows countries as cute boys and makes people sympathize with the countries w*r crimes (Even though the anime is satire and portrays the axis countries in a pathetic light), when United States is vey known in Latinoamerica as the country that doesn’t aknowledge all the human rights they violated during the plan condor and the dictatiorships they caused.) Idk if I managed to explain this well bc I’m half asleep, if anyone has questions just ask asdghjk
After this # started not only the Latinos countries joined, also the polish, french, russian, filipino and the japanese fandom joined with their own # in their languajes.
And I’m loving this with my soul.
If you are not part of a culture, please try not to defend it or gatekeep it if we haven’t asked! (Unless we can’t voice our problems ourselves, of course)
And for those who are saying “Gringo” is a slur, no, it isn’t, its a way of calling the people who are from the united states (Bc y’all are insisting in calling yourselves “American” and people from the rest of the continent do not vibe with that)

Ok if anyone hasn’t been on Twitter in the past week, here’s what’s been going on
So because of hetalia getting renewed for 2021 and everyone talking about how the show is bad, a new hashtag’s been circulating called #shutupgringo2020 that started as non-American (mostly Latino and Russian) fans of the show saying that they were tired of Americans deciding if the show was offensive or not
But it morphed into something much bigger and now it’s about how white americans shouldn’t get to decide what’s, for lack of a better word, problematic in fandoms
But now it’s apparently going in the opposite direction and those arguing in favor of the show are going against and attacking non-Americans who dislike the show when they try to disagree
This was two days after the announcement

Well it looks like once again you gringos think your experiences are universal and that the communities you made in there are the only way to be latine. It amazes me how you proud yourselves in "calling out" other kinds of oppression (with good reason) but when we actual latines tell you "hey, things don't work like that here" you keep your head inside your asses and go "I know better than you honey".
So I'll repeat my classic statement, ahem:
SHUT
THE
FUCK
UP

Okay I am screaming, apparently a lot of american hetalia fans (or antis) were having their typical “Hetalia is terrible because-” debate in twitter...
And Latinoamerica decided to make #Shutupgringo2020 tag to support hetalia and just go “Shut up and sit down boi” that not only trended but THE FREAKING RUSSIAN, UKRANIAN AND JAPANESE FANS JUMPED IMMEDIATELY ON THE TAG TOO
Tumblr media
now Brazil, France, Germany, and Lord knows how many more are joining the meme and I am wheEZING
