Tell me something I'll forget (and you might have to tell me again)
Mirabel's ceremony! Such a big day!
Isabela looked up, staring as her sister slowly reached her doorknob
Pedro and Alma swap au
Okay.... It definitely went wrong. Isabela backed away in shock, leaning on her Tía. Mirabel's door vanished right in front of their eyes. Leaving a shining unsertanity in the air. Can the door even disappear? How? In Isabela's long eleven years long life she hadn't seen anything quite like that. The Madrigals stared in confusion, the world was frozen. Mirabel stared at Abuelo with such sad eyes. Several petals fell off the flower crown that Isabela had made for her. Mama and Papa held each other tightly, with wide open mouths. The wind blew in the patio, a right sign of how worried Tía Pepa was.
"Shh..." Felíx patted her spine, trying to make her calm down. "Mi vida, it's okay." Of course, he was the one to stay optimistic despite the situation. Always looking on the bright side.
"Dolly, do you know what's going on?" Isabela leaned closer to her twin-cousin. She was smart, maybe she had already figured out what happened (on simply heard it)
Dolores slowly tilted her head. "No idea. I didn't hear anyone talking about that ever before." Yeah, everyone before got their gifts? Why wouldn't Mirabel have one too? Isabela's grip on her cousin's palm tightened.
Camilo's eyes looked between his parents, sister, and cousins, trying to understand what was going on. He shapeshifted from nerves, gripping Tía's hand.
Pedro shook his head, turning to the guests, mainly Agústin's relatives and family friends. "Today's celebration's dismissed. Please, everyone, go home." The Madrigal Candle in his hands flickered, fading for just a bare second. Flashes of yellow light fell on the floor
With it, the small amount of people who were invited went out of the dark patio, grumbling.
Things spun around really fast. Isabela found herself bored in her room. Don't get her wrong, she was worried. And upset too. But sitting in her room wouldn't do anything.
She suspected that her parents were with Mirabel. Of course, Isabela couldn't imagine how she felt. So young, helpless. Even more than Isabela herself. Tía Pepa and Tío Felix probably were comforting their kids. And heavens knew what was Luisa doing. This left her alone in this predicament. When everyone was busy and she didn't have anyone to ask all the hard questions in her mind.
Isabela walked out on her toes. She knew she had to be quiet if she didn't want to get caught by Abuelo. She hated it, she wasn't Dolores who could move like a ghost. But Isabela would prefer to suffer for a bit than to be found.
Casita creaked its tile, asking Isabela to stay away. The young girl just shook her head, patting one of the pillars. "C'mon, I want to help," She demanded, pushing herself to a weak light, coming from one of the rooms.
Abuelo paced around the kitchen nervously, as Luisa (of course, it's always her) followed him like a duckling. In a candlelight, Isabela could see how pale her sister was. Not like she could blame her. Tío Bruno knocked on the table in this heavy predicament. It was quiet. Isabela peaked through the doorway, but the trio was a bit distracted. It was dark, candles glimmered, dripping with wax. The table was filled with food that wasn't going to be used in the way they planned.
Finally, Abuelo turned to Tío Bruno. "Okay, here's what we'll do. You go take a vision." His fists clenched from bursting nerves. "If there's anything wrong, if it means any danger we must know."
Danger? For what? Pfff... Isabela bet she could help with it herself! And she doesn't even need that stupid shimmering fashionable sword. (tho she had to admit, it looks extremely cool) She can help with plants!
Bruno winced. "Papa, are you sure? I mean..."
"Bruno." Pedro had cut him off. "It's for the family. You have to ensure Mirabel's safe."
It was something they heard every day. They needed to be in safety. No matter how boring it was. It was strange, Dolores had said that other girls didn't live like them. They were going to school, and playing outdoors. Isabela really couldn't understand why they were locked in.
The younger man nodded, nervous. Isabela could see him shrink under Abuelo's gaze. Again, it wasn't something unexpected. Abuelo didn't like it when anyone disobeyed him.
Lost in her thoughts, Isabela didn't notice how Tío Bruno almost bumped into her. She jumped back, startled. Damn, she didn't plan to be caught.
Bruno winced looking down at her. "Kid? What are you doing in here?"
"Don't tell Abuelo I was here!" Isabela begged. She feared to think what Abuelo would do. (He probably won't actually do anything bad, just scold her and close her in her room. She wasn't sure why she was so worried about his reaction)
Bruno's eyes widened, he gestured stop. ", Okay, okay..."
She bit her lip, looking up. With how dark it was, she barely could make out her Tío's outlines. "Do you know anything?"
Bruno shrugged his shoulders. "Gotta see the future for that?" He patted her spine, nervous as always. "Are you worried for your sister?"
Isabela didn't reply. Her mind still was too wild to proceed with everything that had happened. Maybe she was? Or maybe she was upset or mad? Or confused? She didn't quite realize her own feelings yet. "Have a good vision."
It would be better not only for Bruno but for Mirabel too. And, well, Isabela wouldn't leave him alone tomorrow until he confessed of what he saw.
Bruno froze, staring at the tablet in front of his eyes. An older Mirabel stood in front of Casita. A series of deep cracks ran all over the building. But, when Bruno tilted the vision plate, it would be changed differently.
For the cheese's sake, what does it mean? His visions were never like this. It was supposed to be one certain future that was set in stone. Not.... Whatever it was.
Papa would be so disappointed. Probably say that Bruno wasn't strong enough and failed to protect her. Part of him was afraid. Of the disappointment. Of facing his dad. Bruno didn't want to get in trouble for this vision.
And what would happen to Mirabel if Pedro knows? Knowing his papa, Bruno couldn't imagine a good reaction. In the best case she would probably be protected so much she wouldn't be able to breathe. But, honestly, Bruno could imagine Pedro just sending Mirabel out of Casita from fear that the building would fall on her.
He didn't want this to happen. It would break Mirabel's heart. It would break everyone. Bruno knew he couldn't tell about it to anyone. Was he a coward? Maybe. But he wasn't ready to show it. He didn't think he ever would.
The green plate shattered against the rock in his vision cave. Shrads of the green glass were scattered around the sand, slowly falling under it.
The hard metallic door creaked behind Bruno.

I think Bruno's gift of seeing into the future was not meant to be an omen, but rather a reassurance for Bruno himself.
He loves and worries about his family so much (especially his mother and sisters), and wanted to always see what was ahead so he could protect them from it. Thus it manifested into his gift.
Unfortunately, as Bruno is such a worrier and very superstitious, he was always nervous to see too far, or see the optimism as Mirabel does. So he grew to fear his gift as something that would only bring fear - the unknown. Coupled with the villagers also fearing the gift, also got to Bruno's head. Thus it ended up something that lost its intended purpose.

Au where Mirabel is the reincarnation of a god. The reason she wasn’t given the gift is because she is already magic herself so she didn’t need a gift.
Encanto AU: What if Mirabel is a reincarnation of a god?
Thank you for the idea @mabeljonesrock!
Disclaimer: This story isn't based on any actual legend or god from Colombia, it's just a figment of my imagination. Any similarities are just coincidental. I just wanted to have a little creative freedom haha. Anyway, enjoy!
The triplets don't hear much about their Mama's hometown. They've tried asking, once, but Alma's expression had turned so lonely that they didn't want to press further.
That's why the stories that their mother does tell are kept so close to their hearts.
It's the Christmas after the triplets received their gifts, and they're all curled up around their mother as they sit around the Christmas tree. And Alma begins a story...
Once upon a time, there lived a goddess, made of stardust and fire. She was fond of humans, so she took a human form similar to her followers to try living among them. She was known to have long flowing hair, smooth unblemished sunkissed skin, and the most beautiful smile known to man.
She never revealed that she was a god, so no one paid much attention to her, but she did not mind. She kept on smiling, even when no one spared her a second glance.
One fateful day, she had to return to the stars. But she had grown so attached to the humans, that she could not bear to leave them. And so, she turned herself into light itself, to continue to guide her people even when they wouldn't know.
But they did know.
They noticed how the smiling young woman had disappeared, and they missed her presence. She was always in the company of butterflies, so to wish for her wellbeing, the people added that motif everywhere, from their clothes to their walls to their lamps.
(But those were not butterflies at all, they were moths. And as the saying goes, moths are drawn to flame. Even in her human form, they were attracted to her dazzling fire.)
"The old folk used to tell that story to us all the time, to teach us that we only know what we're missing out on when it's gone," Alma said with a laugh. "I never believed it, because surely people made from the stars never existed. But now..."
"We got a magic house and magic powers, so you better believe it!" Pepa exclaimed happily. "Do you think our magic could be from the goddess too, Mama?"
"The candle is light..." Julieta considered.
"And it has a butterfly design, like you said," Bruno added, glancing at the candle, burning bright as ever.
"Maybe," Alma said, smiling. "And I'm grateful for that, since the magic saved us all. Say, if ever the goddess manifests or reincarnates, I'll be the first to give my thanks."
Years went by. Alma continued to tell them stories, but she was forgetting them, and it made her feel even worse to tell her children of a legend she could barely recall. So the stories stopped coming, and the children kept growing.
Eventually, the family expanded. Pepa got married and had 2 wonderful children. Julieta got married and was blessed with 3 daughters. And Bruno... he became more and more distant every passing day.
It became a tradition for the parents, after the gift ceremony, to tuck their children into bed in their new rooms with the legend of the goddess. It was like a confirmation, a coming-of-age, when the grandkids heard the supposed origin of their magic. It solidified that they were gifted.
When Mirabel's door faded away, no one felt that it was right to tell her the story.
But what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her.
And so she lived her life as normally as she could. She tried helping out as much as she could, but no one needed the magicless Madrigal. Well, no matter. She couldn't resent her family nor her town for this.
She pressed on with an ever-optimistic smile on her face.
(Aside from the weird deja vu feeling she got when she looked at herself in the mirror or stared at a flame or talked to Casita, life was good.
She'd asked Camilo once, when they were 13, about if he felt like he wasn't himself looking in the mirror, but he laughed nervously and hastily left the kitchen. She shrugged the strange experience off.)
When Antonio was born, Mirabel felt a love so full (so familiar) that she could barely contain it. But this did not stop her disappointment when the magic responded to his touch and gave him a door.
She stepped out, feeling unwelcome, when the tiles started to crack. The closer the cracks got to the candle...
The more Mirabel's chest started to ache. Like a part of her was breaking.
But it was Casita who was falling apart, it was the magic that was fading. So why did it feel so hard to breathe?
(Little does Mirabel know, she is the magic herself. As the magic binding her family together withers, so does she. But when the house finally does crash to the ground, she lives.
Because in this life, she still has her dazzling smile, that encourages others to step into themselves. Because in this life, people (Alma) noticed her before it was too late. Because in this life, butterflies do flock to her, not moths.
Because in this life, she's not just magic, she's human too. Like she's always wanted, in the life she doesn't quite remember.)

Encanto classpecting part 1
So, I watched Encanto a few weeks ago, it was awesome! Saw it with my mom. The plot, art, cultural research and music were fantastic. Minor downside: we were disappointed by the speed and volume at some moments, so I checked the lyrics of the songs afterward to fully grasp their meaning (my mom is older, sure, but I'm only 26 and I also find some bits incomprehensible). Anyway, it has its flaws but nonetheless it's a very well-made animated movie~ On to the point So How would you classpect the whole Madrigal Family? Minors and majors spoilers up this point /!\ Really long thread ahead!
The most obvious one is Bruno: Seer of Time Could it be Doom? I thought about it, but I tend more towards Time because of the hourglass and sand theme that surround him. Hourglass is made of sand (so is the green prophesy slab), and combined they symbolize the passing of time, time running out (which is very important in the movie, since Mirabel has to figure out quickly how to save the Miracle) and decay. What could remind us of the Doom aspect is the color green, although fatality is the element where Doom and Time overlaps. If I have to think and squint, he shares some resemblance with Jude Harley: -Recluse -Socially awkward -In his own universe -Surrounded by animals as friends -Bringer of bad omen, but in Jude's case, no one believe him Cassiopeia style -Love his family, or at least what remains of it ToT There is also Sacrifice, he 'left' to protect Mirabel, sacrificing his place in the family during 10 years.
It's a heavy lift with a gift so humbling Always left Abuela and the family fumbling Grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand
Both Mirabel and Abuela Alma have a stronger connection with Blood, in a different way. Blood is about unity, relationships, commitment, society. Both care about the unity of the family, while Alma (due to trauma) focused more of its presentation and never showing weakness,
We swear to always help those around us And earn the miracle that somehow found us The town keeps growing, the world keeps turning But work and dedication will keep the miracle burning And each new generation must keep the miracle burning
Mirabel made the effort to leave this kind of mindset, went to talk to several family members, trying to figure out what was the root of the problem. She listened to her sisters and made them yell/sing about their insecurities, what they were enduring and hiding all along. A listening ear, just like Karkat. For Luisa, I have yet no idea about her aspect, but oh boy she is definitely a Knight. Serving and protecting others, while refusing other people help. She's holding it all, but what happen if she can't handle it anymore?
Under the surface Was Hercules ever like, "Yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus"? Under the surface I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service
Strong, unsecured, feminine, love soft things, long for some relaxation and pleasure. Aside from those elements, not much is known about Luisa, we don't even get to see her room. For Isabella, I see her as Life-bound. Princess-like at first, she is surrounded by nature, stuck being the well-behaved golden child while concealing a more cunning and prickly side. Like a cactus! Also that's a recurrent personality trait in the Life-bound folks x) When she lashes out and reveals her burden, she discovers a side of herself that almost never left the surface. Something new, something different and exciting. Mirabel brought her a new perspective, change and growth.
He told me that the life of my dreams Would be promised, and someday be mine He told me that my power would grow Like the grapes that thrive on the vine
What can you do when you are deeply, madly, truly in the moment? Seize the moment, keep goin' What can you do when you know who you wanna be isn't perfect? But I'll still be okay (Hey, everybody clear the way, whoo!)
She let her more optimistic and rule-breaking side break free.
Since she keeps on creating flowers and plants around her, stuck on serving her/through her aspect, I would classpect her as a Maid of Life. Not at 100% sure about the class though. Back to Mirabel, she gives me underdog vibes. Could she be a Page? She didn't received a gift, feels disadvantaged, tries her best but often end up being awkward and clumsy. Left out. She got so much potential, it's right there.
Always walking alone Always wanting for more Like I'm still at that door Longing to shine like all of you shine All I need is a change All I need is a chance All I know is I can't Stay on the side Open your eyes Open your eyes Open your eyes
She can do something, being as important as the rest of the family, she just needs others to realize it and offer her the opportunity to do so. So for now I classpect her as a Page of Blood. I'll put aside some characters, those whom we don't have much info. Julieta, now that's a bummer. She literally made food that heals people. Optimistic, nurturing, calm. Meaning she should be the Maid of Life here. Different family members sharing an aspect is quite common, but a whole classpect? That's pretty rare, but not unheard of. Two people sharing the same classpect can act pretty differently after all. Sorry Felix, apart from being caring and clumsy (and making his bet conceling the prophecy slate hmm, Void?), we don't know enough about you to even guess your aspect.
So we'll just move on to the other side of the family, on part 2!
