🖤Monster Lover Book Recs🖤
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Were you, like me, gaslit by booktok influencers into reading Ice Planet Barbarians? You may be entitled to financial compensation. Call 1-800-blue-peepee for more information. Not really BUT!!! Below is a list of passable monster fucker books I discovered after spite reading like 30 of these after being utterly disappointed by IPB and hellbent on find some that were at least OKAY. Better than Ice Planet Barbarians, at least
The genre being what it is, make sure to check on the content warnings linked on TheStoryGraph if there's anything specific you're worried about. Also there ARE some lgbtqa+ books on this list (you’re welcome).
🕸🕷️Ensnared by by Tiffany Roberts🕷️🕸 I read this so long ago, and I can barely remember it tbh. A big alien spider monster finds a human woman that has crashed landed onto his planet and is like: FUCK this mammoth spider queen hottie who wants me to be her king, I want this gangly little blonde thing I fished out of a dirty hole. Ok. Sure. Pros: This author is committed to the art of monster fucking. This is not just like a guy but furry. Or a guy but scales. This is a big ass spider fucking a lady. And that’s beautiful. Cons: You know that “born sexy yesterday” trope? Because of the communication/cultural differences it kind of felt like they were both each other’s sexy baby. I didn’t really care for the characters or plot tbh, I just persevered because I just had to see how those crazy kids made it work. I was like, “seriously what are the mechanics?” Turns out: webs!
🚀🐱Engineering Fate by Alexis B. Osborne🐱🚀 Sasha tumbles through a wormhole into a part of space uninhabited by humankind--and instead inhabited by sexy cat men (yay). This one starts with the “captured by aliens” trope à la Ice Planet Barbarians, but it’s not a weird, uncomfortable sex thing (yay). Pros: I loved how active the main character was compared to the protags of this genre. She murders soooo many people. I was cheering out loud. Kill those birdmen, girlboss. Cons: Did not really care about the ML or the smut at all. But if you are into breeder kink--or were one of those kids with a huge crush on Simba growing up--then you are in for a treat.  FYI, if you read this and like it, do not read the next in the series. It’s NOT good.
🦖🪐Heart's Prisoner by Olivia Riley🪐🦖Communication specialist studies dangerous--but totally hot--alien prisoner of war “Asset X”. Pros: campy action scenes which I always enjoy. A dinosaur wreaking havoc on a space station in my sex book? More likely than you think., but the ML was fun and sexy. No “soul mates” or “that’s the mother of my child” stuff as far as I can remember, which is always a plus. Cons: The FL has as much personality as an Austin’s sandwich cracker (fyi: that’s the worst kind of sandwich character).
🐊🔮She Came From The Swamp by Darva Green🔮🐊 She was a girl, she was also a girl--but also a Ukrainian Swamp monster--Can I make it any more obvious? Let me tell you. It is already a challenge to find passable heterosexual monster smut. Sapphic monster smut? Oh my god. But this is cute and good! Pros: adorable leads, relatively simple story that focuses on what we’re all really here for. Cons: sometimes they did it while the swamp monster was in human form, and I was like. Why?
☢️💀Soul Eater by Lily Mayne💀☢️ Post-apocalyptic setting, but also there’s interdimensional portals that have appeared on all over Earth that aliens pour out of it. Aliens ranging from cute critters to blood thirsty monstrosities to shredded gay monster hotties. A supernatural monster dubbed “Soul Eater” slaughters a battlefield of men--leaving only a single soldier. What does the mysterious killer want with Danny? Pros: A bonkers plot with lots of action and violence? Check. A seemingly cold and scary love interest that is actually super soft and protective? Check. An author brave enough to actually write weird monster dick instead of just being like, “it’s big and blue!” Cons: having read a few books in this series the huge lack of meaningful female characters and non-white characters throughout is a bummer.

To the editor,
What are your thoughts on the financial & legal aspects of the Templar Treasure? I was going over the epilogue scene and noticed that it's stated that Ben was offered (paraphrased) '10% of the treasure but turned it down because it was too much'. I asked a friend of mine who is an actuary and she suggested that they probably made money by auctioning the treasure off to museums, plus book deals and other publicity.
I could envision something like: once the treasure is validated & the cavern is assessed to make sure it won't collapse, would Ben hire some company to oversee the preservation/excavation/distribution of the treasure? Is there a Gates Family LLC out there that we don't see in the movie? Obviously Ben and Abigail would be down there elbow deep in artifacts and Riley would be starting to write his book, but who would be doing all of the enormously complicated administrative stuff? Who has control of the treasure to the point where they are able to offer '10% as a finder's fee'?
As always, love your work!!

Finders Keepers? The Legalities of Treasure Hunting.
@arsenicalbronze
Thank you so much for another fantastic question! I really appreciate your engagement! This one was fascinating to dig into.
Now, I am not a lawyer, and I don’t even play one on TV.
I do, however, possess a copy of Property Law for Dummies, because I had similar questions regarding the legalities at play in an as-yet-unfinished original treasure hunt story I was working on a few years ago.
Tumblr media
Then, like now, I skipped directly to Chapter 13: Acquiring Rights by Finding and Possessing Personal Property.
Let’s see if we can dig through and discover some answers to your question.
First of all, sunken ships and buried treasures are governed by significantly different laws, strange as that may sound.
Sea-based Treasure
Sunken ships are governed by law of salvage rather than law of finders.
According to this law of salvage “whoever intentionally takes possession of property that is lost or in peril at sea, such as a sunken ship, is entitled to an equitable award from a court, while the owner of the property remains the owner.” (p222)
The court considers factors like:
value of the property salvaged
investment and difficulty in salvaging
to determine how much to award the salvor (person who salvages it).
The text goes on to say that in these kinds of cases the court may “award finders a portion of the property’s value as compensation.”
So that seems to square with what the movie says about Ben getting awarded a personage of the treasure’s estimated value.
Except this is not accurate because the treasure is not salvage.
Let’s move on to land-based treasures.
Land-based Treasure
In most cases, the landowner of the land a thing of value is found on has the superior claim over it. The possessor who found the objects (legally known as ‘chattel’) has a claim to them over everyone except the landowner.
That would mean that the treasure was property of Trinity Church (who, btw is one of the largest landowners in New York City?? As of 2019 the church had over $6 billion in assets?)
But fear not!
There is an exception to this claim of ownership in the case of what is legally known as ‘treasure trove.’
Treasure Trove
Property Law for Dummies defines treasure trove as “money or treasure, such as gold and silver, that the true owner concealed for safekeeping so long ago that the true owner is unlikely to return for it.” (p228)
So, intentionally buried valuables go from “mislaid” property—left with the intention of being reclaimed—to “treasure trove” with a long enough passage of time.
'Enough passage of time' is at least long enough that the true owner is likely dead. Evidence used in courts to declare something treasure trove include:
Dates found on old coins or paper money
The age of the place where its concealed
The condition of the place where it’s concealed
The Templar Treasure certainly meets these criteria.
Both the Declaration of Independence and the Charlotte provide concrete dates for the last possible human interaction with the treasure or clues.
The age of the Trinity Church crypt—specifically the burial date of Parkington Lane—provides an age to the passageway.
The treasure room itself would certainly show evidence of damage if someone had tried to break in without the meerschaum pipe to unlock the door. Without it, any treasure seekers would have needed to blast or break open the wall.
So an excellent case can be made that the Templar Treasure is treasure trove. I mean, if it isn't, what the hell is?
This is excellent news for Ben because “the finder of treasure trove owns it against the landowner and everyone else except the true owner.” (p229) And, by definition, the true owner of treasure trove is long-dead.
But! There are a few caveats. It’s law. Of course there are caveats.
The true owners’ descendants still have a right to claim the property. The farther into antiquity the hiding took place, the less likely this will happen, but it is still possible that some other family descended from the treasure-hiders has some other old piece of paper/object that proves they have some claim to the treasure.
2. Some states have started rejecting the treasure trove doctrine in recent decades, seeking to discourage trespassing on others’ property. Ben can breath easy though, because New York is one of the states that recognized treasure trove law.
However,
3. The landowner can still prevail against the finder if the finder’s claim is unfair or wrongful. Such circumstances may include:
The more extensively the finder trespassed, the more likely the landowner will prevail against the finder.
If the finder is employed by the landowner, the landowner will almost surely win.
If the finder was permitted to enter for a limited purpose and went beyond this scope, the landowner is likely to win.
If the real property (that is land, vs personal property, which is stuff) is private rather than open to the public, the landowner is more likely to win.
The last three examples don’t seem like they’d hold up. Ben wasn’t employed by or affiliated with Trinity Church, he wasn’t given limited permission to excavate that he went beyond, and Trinity Church is open to the public daily.
However, he did do a wee bit of trespassing.
Trespassing
Popping over to pages 52-53, let’s learn about trespassing!
A trespass is “an intentional, wrongful entry onto another person’s land without the owner’s permission and without a legal privilege to do so.”
Interestingly enough, one of said legal privileges you can have to enter property even without the owner’s permission is “out of necessity, to prevent serious harm to person or property.”
So the fact that Team Treasure was held at gunpoint by Ian’s team—who was already shown to be destructive to historic spaces and items on multiple occasions—may actually benefit them if they were taken to court by Trinity Church!
My Ruling
It seems—according to my skimming ten pages of a this book—that Ben actually does own the treasure outright.
Which surprises me! Based on the same dialogue you cite...
RILEY Ten per cent, Ben. They offered you ten per cent and you turned it down.
BEN Riley, we've been over this. It was too much. I couldn't accept it.
...I had always assumed possession of the treasure turned over to someone else and Ben was awarded a sum based on a percentage of its total estimated value.
Based on this reading and your friend’s suggestions, it seems more likely that they auctioned off or otherwise earned money from the treasure up to 1% of its value, and then possibly donated the rest and/or set up some kind of Templar Treasure Foundation dedicated to preserving and distributing the treasure.
(Not sure what the tax situation on such a find is, but donating to museums is great way not to be taxed on art/historic valuables, right? Only Riley seems to be having trouble with the IRS.)
Further Involvement
As for Ben and Abigail being “elbow deep in artifacts,” the total absence of followup on the treasure remains one of the most baffling choices made for Book of Secrets, at least in my opinion.
Sorting through the treasure—cataloging, distributing, preserving, restoring, and studying the tens of thousands of objects in the cavern—is way more than a two-year projects. It’s lifetimes of work. And yet it seems that by the time BoS roles around Ben and Abigail have no involvement with the treasure whatsoever.
That, I think, is also what lead me to assume something more like salvage rules applied—that once Ben found it he was compensated, but he did not own or have any claim of involvement over the treasure, because he no longer seems to be engaged with it at all when we see him next.
Conclusion
Would this hold up in court? Who knows!
But I feel pretty confident that it would hold up in the court of screenplay logic.
And by that I mean, if you google, "does the finder of a treasure own it" while watching a movie, the first few results would say "Yeah" and you'd be like "neat" and go back to watching.
This was actually really fascinating!
I can't say that I'm likely to read more about property law (the remaining 20 chapters of this book will almost certainly go unread), but this poses all kinds of interesting implications for what happened to the treasure after they found it.
It looks like you have a plausible legal footing to configure any number of scenarios:
Rival claims! Sued by the church! Administrative nightmares! Museum auctions! Non-profits! The archeological event of the millennium!
Possibilities abound!
Which ones are y'all most interested in?
Thanks again so much for all of your questions! They always point me in such interesting directions and inspire me to uncover more. Feel free to send another any time!

Thoughts on Riverstar? I find him interesting, especially considering he objects to early clan life but ultimately becomes a leader despite that
River Ripple is actually one of the most interesting parts of DotC and if the Erins actually cared about how Clan Culture evolved, they would have made him a much bigger player in DotC. But no, instead, we've smacked the climactic Battle of Fourtrees in the MIDDLE of the arc to make room for the Clear Sky Redemption Arc That Isnt Even A Redemption Arc.
But hey at least we got One Eye and Slash. We all remember One Eye and Slash right. Those were villains that definitely didnt feel forced and entirely completely didnt contribute to the 'evil foreigner' thing that warrior cats as a series is plagued with
No it doesn't count if you only remember One Eye through CheeCats, CheeCats has a massive brain and can do whatever they want forever. If you or a loved one has started shipping River Ripple x One Eye as a result of CheeCats you may be entitled to financial compensation.
i am included in this demographic.
But enough grinding my teeth over the parts of DotC I don't like. This is about Riverstar, a part of DotC that I DO like
Cats of the Park
The Cats of the Park have such a fascinating culture, and it seems to have a bunch of the 'missing pieces' that the Sun Trail cats don't share with their descendants. The mentor/apprenticeship system, the nature reverence, the changing of names after significant events, the rigid schedules and rituals of their daily lives...
Even the leap to worshiping STARS comes from River Ripple and the Cats of the Park.
Heck, it would have been super cool if the Clan cats actually got to react to the destruction of the Park. I think that would have been a really fun and horrific way to rise up the tension, put more stress on the forest to feed a sudden influx of cats, and establish that humans are starting to encroach.
ESPECIALLY if it happened after Thunder Rising, you know? Set up River Ripple as one of Thunder's good friends, helping him realize that his relationship with his biodad is toxic. Then he falls into the river but comes out okay, instilling a reverence of the forest in ALL of his friends
Riverstar Himself
It's really cool to see that River himself is so relaxed about everything, it's a fun and refreshing mindset that we don't get in very many cats, ESPECIALLY not after the rigidity of Clan life is established in later books.
I think that would have been a super cool contrast to the invasive mountain cats, with Clear Sky bringing his concept of borders and battles, and River Ripple trying to appease him with teamwork and diplomacy... and Thunder, Wind Runner, and Tall Shadow realizing it is not going to work.
So I think if there's one thing I really don't like about River Ripple as a character, it's how he doesn't get dragged into the bigger conflicts.
I don't think any character should have gotten that luxury, especially not someone who will become a leader later on. I think the writers let him have too much of an easy time hiding behind his river and watching everything happen from afar.
He does get involved in the One Eye and Slash conflicts, of course... but personally it just feels kinda weak.
Like, he understands the purpose of getting involved AFTER witnessing the corpse-making event at Fourtrees, not suffering loss or injury exactly because he minded his own business? Feels backwards to me.
So to be clear: What I WANT is for him to not want to get involved, but the plot should keep dragging him back in against his will.
Anyway, overall I really like the guy.

Seven Stupid Hypotheticals
Within this post, I answer dumb hypotheticals summited by a pro life blog with pro choice reasoning because I’m bored at work. If reading such doesn’t interest you, keep scrolling.
Alright, let get these hypotheticals out of the way. I’m going to list out all the dumb analogies first, then list my counter comments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Retorts to these poorly scripted analogies.
1. Photos don’t supersede Human Rights
Disregarding the fact that scientists are still split on the issue of when the human soul develops, this analogy is flawed because the Polaroid’s right to develop should not hinder the rights of the photo-devolper/photo-subject. If a corporation publishes your picture to the detriment of your character for financial gain without your permission, you are entitled to sue them to the point where that photo is required to be legally destroyed and the subject compensated. Paparazzi’s have to follow laws before releasing photos of celebrities. If someone takes a picture, then realizes that they left the lens’s cap on, they have a right to destroy that picture.
2. That’s not how (X) works.
Sex isn’t magical in the regards that if Steven Strange gets interrupted by Peter Parker while in the act, a bunch of super villains spill out of the multiverse’s uterus. To me and most others, that seems obvious, but sorcererprolifespellcetus made me feel the need to clear it up to them and all other confused parties who aren’t getting some.
More importantly, that’s not how consent works. If pro life individuals force a hypothetical wizard onto someone with reality breaking ‘contraception’ that ends up making them absorb their supposedly existing daughter then say “you’ve consented to this”, they seriously need an extensive amount of HR training. Consent needs to be asked for before the act, not assigned to afterwards.
If the wizards and magic exist, why aren’t there productive reproductive solutions? Why isn’t there a spell that transfers a fetus from the individual who doesn’t want to go through labor to someone who is willing to? What about a transmutation circle that allows individuals who wish to bare children yet can’t the ability to do so? Why isn’t there a magic jar that can magically take an aborted fetus and transform them into a baby? Where’s the bag of holding that will then supply all of their need until adulthood? Why is it that when magic finally becomes a thing, all the wizard could do is make really inconvenient contraceptives?
3. The Pimple Popping Brigade
Question: did you forget to include the part where the government now has to create the Pimple Popping Police to enforce the safety of all these goobins? Because while the reader might be aware of the absurd circumstances, a passerby with a hose might think that said reader is doused in radioactive waste and wash my supposed son. Would that make my washer commit manslaughter? Also, did you intentionally omit the details where we need to let the Pimple Popping Police invade everyone’s privacy so that they may monitor all cases to determine which individuals squished their pupa and which simply fell into the rather common miscarriage statistic?
4. Lifeguards want to have a word
When a lifeguard swims out to someone who is drowning, they don’t engage until the drowning person is calm. In that scenario, they will wait until the drowning victim either calms down or falls unconscious because self life preservation is still the primary focus and it’s better to have to drag an unconscious victim and risk the chance that they might not survive than have them bring said life guard into the afterlife and not be able to save others in the future.
Also, that’s not how consent works. Not just for the hypothetical child, but for swimlackularproscrathingchilddaycaredemander forcing readers to bring a hypothetical child along for the swimming trip.
5. Listen Jigsaw
For someone who claims to be pro life, sickcluelessprobondageontraintracks seem to enjoy creating scenarios where the death of an individual is a high possibility.
Unfortunately, this poor hypothetical becomes easy to answer when you consider the legality alongside the morality.
On a legal note, if the switch-controller decides to flip the switch either way, they weaken the verdict against Jigsaw. Choosing to divert the train to the sole person ends up with the switch controller facing a murder charge and jigsaw 🧩 only facing seven charges of unlawful imprisonment and a trespassing charge. If the switch controller chooses to send the train to themselves, they have a high chance of dying from blood loss. They also waive a majority of claims to insurance, since flipping the switch make the dismemberment or death non-accidental. Jigsaw stills get the same lesser charges.
Should the switch controller choose not to flip the switch, the legal action taken against them would be most likely nothing. The closest charge I could find was a failure to act law. Such a law only exists in four states, all states would most likely rule the conditions of action too extreme, and even in the retarded conclusion that the court rule ‘Nah, you should have let the train rail you” the most that they could charge the switch controller would be a misdemeanor and a $300 fine. Meanwhile, Jigsaw here would never see the light of freedom again due to five murder charges.
On the grounds of morality, one school of thought could reason that the morally just course of action would to place the train track chain-man under the most severe punishment above all else, less they repeat the same scenario. In this regard, it’s actually morally correct to not touch the switch so that Jigsaw here gets five charges of murder and never sees the light of day again. By letting five die in this scenario, you help to quicken the search for Jigsaw and could reasonably prevent countless other tragedies where they repeat this corrupt conundrum.
6. That’s not how consent works.
Uh, no. We didn’t know that this was a possible outcome to our unnamed actions. We don’t even know what we did to get in this predicament. It sounds like whatever system of education was supposed to teach us failed to do so. Maybe, we if we were aware of what actions were risky, we could have taken protective measures to avoid this predicament. Instead, your ‘you knew this was a possible outcome due to your risky actions’ clause sounds like something a rapist would say to their victim.
I think I would probably seek medical advice from someone other than the conundrum giver in this instance; medical advancement has come a long way.
7. Prosthetics
Unless if satanicpromiseryconstituant is keeping Rita and Lola in their Jigsaw hideout, there’s another option. They could go to a medical professional, have surgery preformed and Rita could get a prosthetic. If you were to make me choose between being hooked up to someone or loosing a leg, give me the prosthetic and my privacy.

Thomas: Just think about this! I’m your hottest friend. Thomas: No, that’s Red… I’m your nicest friend. Thomas: No, Aberama... I’m your friend!

Red: If I die, my funeral will be the biggest party ever and you're all invited. Aberama: "If" Thomas: Great, the only party I'm ever invited to and they might not even die.

Thomas: Red, I’m afraid. Red: Just stay close to Aberama. Thomas: That's why I’m afraid.

*Aberama is casually searching around the room* Thomas: Hey Aberama, what’re you looking for? Aberama: My will to live. *Red walks into the room* Aberama: Oh, there it is.

Red: What's the signal when something goes wrong? Alfie: We yell, 'oh shit.' Aberama: ...That'll work.

Aberama: I saw you fall, saw the sinners lay on your corpses... Thomas: Hey, what’s up with Aberama? Aberama: I created you, made the pieces perfect, others marveled at your beauty… their gazes may have held envy, though, for none are perfect but you. I was only looking away for a moment, but you were gone. I had failed you. And I fell into despair. The only way to save myself was to create, but I knew… this time I knew I was only making you to die. And I apologize. For I will undoubtedly fail you again. For a short time, there will be peace and beauty, but none in the face of us shall lay undisturbed. The greatest have fallen, and will continue to fall, and I weep for you for being born unto this place, where brother eats brother, and the undeserving rise to fame. Those that have gone against you know they’ve wronged you, and they will stand before the creator, knowing they have sinned. Do not worry, little ones, you will be avenged. Red: ...They made some rock towers and went somewhere else for twenty minutes and when they came back the rock towers were destroyed and people were sitting where the towers once were, so they were sad and made more rock towers. Red, to Aberama: Hey, who even is the creator? I thought you were an atheist! Aberama: SHUT THE HELL UP, RED! I’M TRYING TO BE DRAMATIC AND MYSTERIOUS!
----------------------------------
Thomas: Hey, did you know as a kid I accidentally ate paper? Red: I feel like we've all done that at least once. Aberama: I ate it too- Red: See? Aberama:: -On purpose... Thomas & Red: ...What?

Alfie: Who knew getting in trouble would be so impossible? Red: I gotta give you credit, Thomas. You make it look easy. Thomas: Years of practice.

Aberama: I apologize for saying 'fuck' in front of Red. Alfie: You just said it again. Red Aberama: I am not a role model.

Thomas: Are you a painting? Red: What-? Thomas: Because I want to pin you to a wall. Alfie: OH GOD I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO SAY YOU WANTED TO HANG THEM OR SOMETHING-

Money Awarded to Railroad Workers with Asbestosis
Tumblr media
Could You Be Eligible for Asbestos Compensation?
If you were employed by a railroad company prior to 1982, there is a possibility that you may be entitled to compensation for the time you spent working around asbestos. The presence of this toxic material in various industries, including the railroad sector, has caused severe health issues for many workers. However, determining the exact amount of compensation available to individuals who were exposed to asbestos can be a complex process, considering several variables are taken into account. Regrettably, numerous eligible individuals remain unaware of the financial assistance available to them, even if they have not yet received a medical diagnosis for mesothelioma or lung cancer, both of which are commonly associated with asbestos exposure. At our law firm, our dedicated legal team is committed to assisting current and retired railroad employees who were employed before 1982 in obtaining the compensation they deserve for the risks they faced while working around asbestos. Health problems arising from asbestos exposure, such as shortness of breath or internal scarring, may be qualifying factors for compensation. Furthermore, it's essential to note that family members who have lost loved ones due to asbestos-related illnesses may also be eligible for financial compensation. This provision is put in place to acknowledge the suffering endured by those who have lost their lives to this hazardous substance. If you suspect that your health issues or those of your departed family member are linked to asbestos exposure, we strongly encourage you to get in touch with our law firm. Our experienced team will work diligently with you, conducting a thorough review of your work history, health records, and other relevant factors to determine your eligibility for compensation. Our goal is to make this process as straightforward and hassle-free as possible so that you can receive the financial restitution that you are rightfully owed. In conclusion, if you or someone you know has a history of working for a railroad company before 1982 and experienced health issues due to asbestos exposure, there may be compensation available. Don't hesitate to reach out to our law firm to explore your options and seek the justice and financial support you deserve. Your well-being is our priority, and we are here to guide you through every step of the process.
What Is Asbestos?
Asbestos is the name for six minerals made of fibers found naturally in the earth. These minerals have been used in construction and manufacturing for many reasons. For starters, asbestos fibers are flexible and resistant to heat, fire, chemicals, and electricity. That's why they've been used in home and business construction materials, automotive parts, and even textiles. But the fibers that form asbestos separate easily into tiny pieces when they're handled or damaged. They're too small to see, and they're easy to breathe in. They can build up in your lungs and cause health problems. For this reason, the U.S. government has banned all new uses of asbestos. But certain uses that were developed before 1989 are still legal.
What Are the Symptoms of Asbestos Exposure?
You might not notice any symptoms until years after you were exposed to asbestos. In general, it could bring on signs like: Feeling like you can't get enough air Wheezing or hoarseness A lingering cough that gradually gets worse Coughing up blood Pain or tightness in your chest Trouble swallowing Swelling in your neck or face Loss of appetite Weight loss Tiredness Anemia These can also be symptoms of many other conditions. So get checked by your doctor so they can find out what's going on with you. If you think you've been exposed to asbestos at some point, talk to your doctor about it, whether you're having symptoms or not.

Why You Need a Commercial Litigation Attorney
Tumblr media
If you’re facing a business dispute, you need an experienced Commercial litigation attorney on your side. A skilled lawyer will know what to do in order to help you achieve the best possible outcome.
While many disputes can be resolved through mediation or arbitration, sometimes a lawsuit is necessary. Whether your case is federal or state-based, a commercial litigation attorney can help you navigate the process and protect your rights.
Legal Issues
Commercial litigation can be a tricky thing to navigate. It involves a lot of money and time, so it is important to hire an experienced lawyer.
A commercial litigator will conduct investigations, research the law, draft letters and negotiate settlements. He or she may also participate in pre-trial motions and try the case before a judge or jury.
This type of legal activity is often more expensive than civil or criminal cases because it requires extensive discovery and expert witness assistance. Nevertheless, it is still an important area of practice for attorneys. It will likely continue to grow in the years ahead. The best commercial litigators use their creativity and strategic judgment to win or settle these complex matters. Ultimately, they know that success will come from having strong client relationships, thought leadership, practical management skills, deep experience and a high level of personal commitment.
Contract Disputes
Contracts are at the heart of every business. Whether you are signing a lease agreement or selling a product, a valid contract is essential to the success of your business.
When contracts are not drafted properly, disputes can occur between parties. Ideally, all parties will have had input into the contract terms.
These conflicts can arise from drafting the contract without considering a particular transaction and specific parties involved. They can also occur if one party adds terms that are not favorable for another party.
Intellectual Property Disputes
Intellectual property (IP) is a term used to refer to creations of the mind, such as inventions (patent / utility model), designs (industrial design), brand names (trademark) and literary and artistic works (copyright). Infringing on these rights may be considered a breach of civil law or criminal law.
Intellectual property disputes can arise from a number of reasons, including misunderstanding or negligence on the part of the owner of the IP asset. These cases can result in legal proceedings, demands to cease using the IP asset and/or compensation payments.
Employment Disputes
If you are an employee who is unhappy at work or your employer has treated you unfairly, it is important to get professional legal advice. Our team of litigation lawyers can guide you through the process and help you take action against your employer in court if necessary.
Our firm handles all types of employment disputes. These include discrimination claims, wrongful termination, and other legal issues.
While some employment disputes may require a trial, many others can be resolved through early conciliation or arbitration.
Arbitration is a private process that allows the parties to discuss their issues with an independent person or team before a decision is made. However, it is a binding procedure that cannot be appealed.
Whistleblower Disputes
Whistleblowers are employees who report illegal or dangerous behavior to the authorities. Their efforts help protect the public from financial malfeasance, safety violations, and fraud.
Under federal law, whistleblowers are protected from retaliation for reporting wrongdoing. This protection applies to all DOJ employees, contractors, subcontractors, grantees, subgrantees, and personal services contractors.
Whistleblowers who are harmed by retaliation should seek legal advice immediately. They are entitled to recover lost or withheld pay, legal fees, and compensation for monetary damages. They may also seek reinstatement to their former positions.

3 Workers’ Compensation Myths That You Should Know
Workers’ compensation is an important part of any business’s plan for reducing risks. It gives workers a way to seek compensation if they get hurt on the job.
Workers’ compensation insurance is usually handled by a third-party carrier, which pays out claims and defends the insured if a claim is made against them. However, it is common for businesses to self-insure, which means they take responsibility for all injuries that happen at work. For this to happen, employers must always keep a certain amount of money in their workers’ compensation accounts.
Due to how popular workers’ compensation is, there are many myths about how it works. So, the goal of this article is to bust some of the workers’ compensation myths that are out there. Even though many of these things are true, they are not always true, which can cause confusion and even lawsuits.
Myth #1
I can get workers’ compensation on top of any health or disability benefits from my employer.
Fact: With the exception of regular payments or medical attention, you won’t be able to get any additional benefits on top of what your employer’s plan or the insurance company gives you.
Myth #2
Workers’ compensation is not available to people who only work part-time.
Fact: If you are a traditional worker and get hurt on the job, even if you only work part-time, you almost always have access to a workers’ compensation system through your employer’s insurance policy. If you get hurt on the job, and your company doesn’t have workers’ compensation, you can still sue your employer to pay for your medical care and other benefits.
Myth #3
I don’t need a lawyer to help with my Workers’ Compensation claim.
Fact: When you need money because of an injury at work, the best way to get as much money as possible is to hire an experienced lawyer.
Lawyers at an emergency rate, which is capped in many states, handle workers’ compensation claims. You can be sure that you will only pay a portion of your financial settlement if your lawyer can get you the benefits you deserve.
To ensure you get all the benefits you are legally entitled to, you must not only file correctly but also make sure your employer or their insurance company doesn’t try to end your benefits early. If you get hurt at work, you may be entitled to fair compensation, but getting that money without the help of a lawyer can be like trying to get water out of a rock.
Conclusion
At San Gabriel Valley, our lawyers have been helping people who have been hurt on the job for years. We’ve dealt with claims in many different fields and will do everything we can to protect your rights. Call (626) 602-9483 to get a free review.

One last time, y’all. This campaign and these characters have meant so much to me, and this seven hour finale was definitely an emotional rollercoaster. (Yes, I shed actual tears at one point, which rarely happens to me with media. But this is a special occasion.) These liveblogs are nearly as long as the episode itself, so grab a snack! With that being said, here are my very last liveblogs for Campaign 2 of Critical Role. As always, major spoilers below, so beware.

- Speaking of relationships, I am lowkey into the Fjord/Jester/Kingsley dynamic LOL no one look at me I’m in hiding
- I’M NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO VETH AND CAD 😭 It makes sense and the fact that they have their families back is beautiful but also consider this: I’m sad and I will miss them

- “If he’s anything like his mom, you won’t see him until it’s too late” Okay that made me giggle, I love Veth and I love Luc and I love their little family
- IS ESSEK LEAVING TOO? THAT’S GONNA BE WHAT BREAKS ME ISN’T IT
- If Essek leaves and we never see him again, getting a triple whammy of goodbyes I will be so incredibly sad, I cannot do this  😭
- If anyone is interested, no I am not doing well
- I was lowkey ready to get an Essek’s feelings for Caleb confirmation tonight, I guess it makes sense that we didn’t but I hope that this is not the last time we see Essek... I want to write another emo post about him and about how much he means to me but I will refrain
- CALEB BEING A TEACHER IS THE ENDGAME I WANT FOR HIM PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
- Wow, I really was not ready to see Caduceus and Essek go for some reason... I really wanted this Campaign to end on the image of the Mighty Nein together as all nine of them... I’m feeling so numb right now having to say goodbye  😭
- Oh, we’re in the epilogue now!
- When Fjord said “[the sea] is my favorite place to be” I genuinely felt that on a spiritual level... the ocean is home, it truly is and always will be for me as well
- “I CAST MODIFY MEMORY” FJORD LMAOOOOOOO
- Okay, that Widobrave ending is what made me shed tears for the first time this episode... not to be Personal but my biological brother graduates High School tomorrow, and for some reason this conversation just reminded me so much of me and him and now I’m emotional
- NOT THE SYPHILIS BANDITS DSYUHDFJKLSFJ;DS OKAY I NEEDED THAT LAUGH
- “I’d like to hear about your friend” Kingsley aww

- “The other eight and I, yes” Caleb counting all nine of them again  😭
- CALEB BEING OFFERED AN ASSEMBLY SEAT WTF AAAHHH
- Oh shit, Astrid took the Assembly seat... I’m not sure how I feel about this, I feel so bad for her for having to stay in the system that abused her for so long and I would have loved to see her burn the whole thing down, but I hope that she at least has a sense of contentment with this title
- “I go where you go, baby” Beauyasha.... my darling loves....
- Beau’s dad??? But also Beau being the one with power over her father is so Good, I’m glad that she got justice on that front as well!

- Vandran going with them!!! Also I feel like that moment between Fjord and Vandran was lowkey a tease to a post-campain Uk’otoa one shot and I am ready for it already
- THIS BEAUYASHA MOMENT... “i’ve never known anyone as deeply as i know you” & “explore every bit of you in multiple ways ;)” & “your past doesn’t scare me, it only makes you beautiful” .... this is so much they are so much i love them so much

- And Beau’s talk to Zuala about being the luckiest woman alive and sacrifice.... 😭
- PLANTING FLOWERS AT ZUALA’S GRAVE... “NO BETTER GRAVE MARKER” THIS IS MAKING ME SO EMOTIONAL, I KNOW I’VE SAID THIS A LOT THIS EPISODE BUT THIS TRULY IS SO BEAUTIFUL
- So... I may or may not be crying again
- Shadowgast with a steel chair??
- Caleb’s plan for saving his parents... it’s clear he has thought of this so much, oh my darling love  😭
- Caleb burning down his chance to change his past is so symbolic and something he really needed to do, it does make me emotional though
- The other book was him writing to his parents?? Oh bby boy  😭
- While I would have loved for Caleb to open his own magic school (especially with Essek, or the Mighty Nein, or someone else as well), I am so pleased that he stays with Veth and that their friendship continues for the rest of their life because again: they mean so so much to me, and in a way they remind me of me and my biological brother (which I never realized before this episode) and yeah. They just make me Emo
- Also. Caleb being a professor was my Number One Endgame Hope for him and the fact that it came true is just so surreal in the best way possible. I’m so used to being robbed of happy endings. The fact that the Mighty Nein all got theirs makes me incredibly happy. A story does not have to be sad to be impactful. Happy stories and happy endings, especially during a time period of tumultuous real life circumstances, have just as much value and meaning and they always will. Caleb is teaching the next generation magic, and he is teaching them to be Good, and he is nurturing them, and that just means so much
- MATT CRYING IS GONNA GET TO ME
- “Let’s do it again” Please, let’s.
- Okay, everyone. I made it all seven hours in one piece with surprisingly minimal tears (though who knows, this might all sink in tomorrow.) I already wrote my thoughts earlier today about how much the Mighty Nein mean to me and how much this show and these characters have kept me holding on during quarantine and today... I’m still not ready to let them go, but I know that I can always revisit to say hello and to say thank you for changing me. Until then though... I love you all more than you could ever know. And for the last time of Campaign 2... is it Thursday yet?
Good night 💗

The Star — Literary References Analysis Part 6: Name One Hero Who Was Happy
Welcome to the (probably?) final part of analyzing the literary references found scattered in each of the endings of Cyberpunk 2077. If you haven’t read the other parts, you should do so through the masterpost here! The Devil was rough — straight up an indirect roast toward V for being an idiot. But I’m thankful to report that The Star has a far for optimistic tale.
I found two references, and believe me, I looked everywhere. If I missed something, let me know! Otherwise this part is fairly short. I may move on later to analyze the meanings behind all of Misty’s readings during the credits, but for now let’s dig into the two references I found: Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy, and a portion of The Illiad (Book 9).
The first reference is really subtle, and real easy to miss (I did the first time I played). If you speak to Cassidy before leaving, he’ll say to you:
“See the child. He is pale and thin, he wears a thin and ragged linen shirt.”
He’ll then basically follow this by saying you look like shit, but the family will never turn it’s back on you. This quote is the first line of Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West. If that makes your bowels ache and quake like it did mine, then you may be entitled to financial compensation for pain and suffering as a result of being forced to read The Road as a teenager. I don’t know what absolute fuckshit McCarthy was on, but I want none of it. Cormac McCarthy actually ties into Johnny’s story in a really weird way. Not only does McCarthy also have a novel called No Country for Old Men (ring a bell?), but the story of Blood Meridian has striking similarities to Johnny’s past in the wars. Both characters leave whatever childhood they had, for whatever reason, to join an American militia/military situation in their early teens. Both of these wars take place in souther/California Mexico, and our protagonist sees unimaginable horrors. Both barely escape with their lives.
Less related, but you want to know another weird coincidence? The book opens with three epigraphs. The first is by French poet  Paul Valéry. Valéry. As in “just-V-only-people-who-really-know-me-can-call-me-Valerie”. Hmm…
There’s a lot more we could do with McCarthy’s novel: Ask ourselves who the Judge in Johnny’s story is (Smasher? Alt? Johnny?), and what it says about the nature of man, violence, immortality, blah blah blah. If that’s something you’re into, have at it. But why does Cassidy say this to you? Why choose the book that haunts AP English students dreams just to tell you that you look like shit? Why mention the idea of a found family having your back in the same breath as a quote from a book that asserts that family absolutely in no way has your back, and that you either die before they do or they’ll let you down in some way (either by dying and leaving you or stabbing you in the back)? Cassidy, a certified literary hoe, would know that Blood Meridian doesn’t exactly have a rosy outlook on family, found or blood.
I think the answer is simple: at the end of the book, we don’t know jack squat.
Just like we don’t know exactly where V’s going, or what Panem’s contacts will be able to pull, we don’t really know what happens to the protagonist at the end of Blood Meridian. Is V truly marked for death? Is Johnny truly gone forever, or is there a chance that his body is out there somewhere, and he could be restored? Is Mikoshi supposed to symbolize hell’s fire or heaven’s grace? (Or something completely different, if we listen to my boi Blake).
It’s such a weird quote to pick, such a weird story to pick. I wish I could derive more meaning from it, but  McCarthy isn’t exactly my area of expertise. If anyone more familiar with his work has more to add, please do!
The next piece we find I believe provides more answers to our ending. It is a section of the Illiad, Book 9, found in a shard before you leave with Panem. For those of you unfamiliar with the Illiad, it is about the end of the Trojan War. If you recall, we get another piece of this story in The Devil ending via a section of The Odyssey, which tells the story of Odysseus trying to return home after said war. In this section, Agamemnon has just made a generous offer to Achilles if he aids in helping end the Trojan War, which he has previously refused over a matter of honor. According to Fate, Achilles is slated to die once Hector is slain, which is exactly why Agamemnon needs Achilles to fight since Hector is on some X-games shit. The shard contains Achilles response to the offer of riches, wealth, and the safe return of his favorite slave (who Agamemnon has taken from him):
For my mother the goddess, silver-footed Thetis, telleth me that twofold fates are bearing me toward the doom of death: if I abide here and war about the city of the Trojans, then lost is my home-return, but my renown shall be imperishable; but if I return home to my dear native land, lost then is my glorious renown, yet shall my life long endure, neither shall the doom of death come soon upon me. Aye, and I would counsel you others also to sail back to your homes; seeing there is no more hope that ye shall win the goal of steep Ilios...
Achilles is grappling here with a tough choice; if he stays and fights, he will die a legend. But if he goes home, he will live a long but quiet life.
Sound familiar? What is it going to be, V? Quiet life, or blaze of glory?
The Sun ending seems to be that blaze of glory, much like the ending Achilles’ eventually is forced into. But The Star seems to be the choice of a quiet life; staying with family, living with peace. I like to think that this is the story of Achilles and Patroclus has things not gone awry. A softer, happier, ending for all involved.
But there’s no such thing according to Johnny. Achilles story doesn’t end with the quiet life. Will V’s? According to McCarthy, we’ll never know, and we’re not meant to know. But there are parallels between V and Johnny, Achilles and Patroclus, that are tough to ignore. Achilles meets his demise after Patroclus dresses in his armor, impersonating Achilles, before being struck down by Hector. Achilles, mad with grief over Patroclus, kills Hector, and continues to fight with the ferocity that can only come when one no longer cares if they live or die. His rage threatens the Gods so much they intervene and cause his demise at the hand of Hector’s brother. Achilles’ final request is that his ashes be mixed with Patroclus so that they may become one in the afterlife.
Lots of parallels, right? The merging of two souls — both in life and death. Just as Patroclus adorns Achilles armor, V has the option to dorn Johnny’s clothes (at the very least, obtaining his jacket is not optional), just as Johnny can “wear” V’s body/identity. V even refers to Johnny as “a comrade and a piece of their own soul.” And as time progresses, they are becoming one indistinguishable entity — just as the Greeks believed that each person is one half of a soul, Johnny and V are one half of each other (or the Soul and the Body, inseparable, as Blake would say).
So what is this saying? That they’re both slated to die together? Perhaps. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll fall into the grave together hand-in-hand. I believe that this is meant to give us hope: that V’s salvation is through saving Johnny. If they truly are two halves of one soul, as several other pieces of literature in the game suggest, saving one means saving the other. We don’t know whether V’s new goal is to save Johnny, save herself, or to live out their remaining months quietly (unlikely, especially if you’ve chosen The Sun ending). But I don’t think that saving Johnny and V are going to be opposing goals anymore; just as dooming Patroclus slated Achilles for death, I think the road to both V and Johnny’s salvation are one they must walk together.

Some Kwarrel Lives Centaur AU
If you’re parent to a Levin, you may be entitled to financial compensation-
~~
Kevin was a child of many talents. He could write, he could sculpt, he did things with machinery that made Kwarrel’s head spin. But there was nothing he was so skilled at as giving his father a fucking heart attack. He was an old man, he shouldn’t have been having to deal with the hijinks of a child, but here he was, dealing with shit no father should have to. Like returning to camp to find their several hundred-pound son had vanished into the aether.
Or worse, finding him up a fucking tree.
“How,” was all he could manage to get out as he watched Kevin make his way carelessly along a low branch. A million ways this could go wrong tumbled through his mind, from the teen’s hooves slipping to the branch breaking under his weight. He was too big for Kwarrel to safely catch anymore- he’d hardly been able to do it when he was small.
“Came in at a run,” Kevin explained around a mouthful of young shoots, “with a wood armor. Was able to shift enough and get enough speed to run right up to the branch and catch myself.”
“You…” He loved this child, he really did, but really? “Come down from there before you break your legs!”
“I’m fine, Dad.”
“Before I die from stress then.” It was a very real danger. Between people wanting to use his powers to his own wanderlust to the health problems his mutations caused it seemed like there was always something surrounding Kevin. He’d gone twenty-eight years in Incarcecon with minimal ill effects and parenthood was going to be what did him in.
Kevin glowered at him for several long minutes, ears pressed back, before snorting and beginning to carefully back up along the branch. He gathered a wood armor and with utmost care backed down the trunk of the tree, his hooves shapeshifting just enough to maintain a grip, until all four feet were safely back on the ground. Immediately Kwarrel was at his side, checking him over for any injuries (and when had he gotten so tall, he’d hardly been eye level with his hips before and now was easily chest height).
“Thank you,” he said once he’d reassured himself he was still in one piece, knowing well just how important it was to encourage proper behavior. So far he’d avoided any more of the aggressive rebelliousness Kevin had shown when they’d met, but he knew damn well that was a boon only he got. It was still there, shimmering under the surface, and he was too old to be giving it an excuse to charge back out.
“Welcome,” Kevin replied as petulantly as possible. Then, he leaned to look around Kwarrel’s bulk back towards camp. “Did you bring dinner?” Kwarrel bit back a laugh as he stepped aside to clear his path. Teenagers, always the same.
“Did you not just eat...?”
