SPOIERS AHEAD from up to the latest of Solo Leveling Ragnarok, but not to worry this is just rambles:

The things that's bugging me so far about solo leveling as a whole isn't just about how the elements of the story could impact the world both individually and globally but also about the potential means of what it is to become an awakened person.

So far the people who have awakened, and those who went on to be a higher rank like S are not those who are just normal in the normal sense like your next door neighbor, but rather those who’ve been proven to leave a small mark in history as a whole. Almost as if faith itself has set them up frrom the start, instead of it being by random choice.

I’ll put up a few examples:

From the novel we have Thomas Andre, Cha Haein, Norma Selner, Lee Minsung and Yoo Soohyun. All of them have made an impact even before they got their powers and post rewind. Thomas became the strongest boxer/mma fighter(?) post rewind. Haein went on to become an olympic athlete, Norma still had the best foresights in the world for two years to the point where even the CIA was keeping her a secret. Sure Norma wasn't an S rank but rather B, still her power was extremely OP(and I wonder if she could have used that for herself but that's another talk). Thing is, they all are examples of how they wielded their talents perfectly, and how those talents showed themselves to be far more than others. It is also noted that both Thomas and Haein started training at quite the young age, with Thomas having no choice to survive whereas Haein managed to outrank even those from highschool despite only being a middle schooler. Pre-rewind. Haein was the only S rank huntress, with, not surprisingly, her S rank power being connected to her physical strength. Thomas is the same, he got to be the strongest boxer and now he is the strongest tank.

For Soohyun and Minsung it's hard to know if their talent of acting was connected to their level physically, or if they were magic users/healers/rangers/summoners instead. But nonetheless they were both famous actors before their awakening, and both have become A ranks after it. Looking at Minsung and Soohyun's cowardice and uninterest respectively, you can see they both seem to lack that pride that comes with being an S rank. The same could be said for Go Gun Hee as he is described to have been one of the greatest businessmen in the country and a philanthropist by his own right, and in the end was a *checks LN* ruler’s vessel.

Juhee, Taeshik, Song Chiyeol and the Hwan brothers can also be a case study here. Juhee is a B rank healer who, post-rewind, she was told to be working at the same hospital where Gunhee is resting, and while she isn't famous then, working in such a place that has a patient one of the most important people out there, is already a level of uniqueness on its own, especially when we know juhee isn't even from Seoul and has to adapt to the more city-coloquial lenguage. It’s a big change for her, as it was for anyone who became a B rank.

Taeshik as well, he was a criminal capable of killing so many people, and post-rewind we see he still becomes a criminal(ill explore that later tho.). And the Hwan brothers speak for themselves with how, in the extras, they are an infamous pair of gang criminals. Song Chiyul is a swordmaster, but even more so I like to point out his leadership and his compassion do seem to make a far more presence than his skills. He is resourceful, especially against the fight with taeshik, he lets others choose for themselves as seen in the double dungeon, he doesn't back away from responsibilities. in. the. face. of. death. Like even if he was being threatened–back at the double dungeon– by Mr Kim, he still put his own life. TWICE. to save others. Once by stepping as a sacrifice upon the altar, another tie by urging Jinwoo and Juhee to escape.

“Oh but what about Jinho? He got to be a successful businessman but he wasn't all that powerful!” I hear you say (jk its me) and yes, he wasn't all that powerful because his own struggles were not as hard as the others for him. He had the whole Yoo Conglomerate to back him up (because in the new timeline he hadn't had a bad breakup with dad) so his resources were more endless than say someone like Haein who even injured herself during the races she partook in, or heck, even his own cousin who had to make a name for herself with her own acting, refine that talent instead, and as its seen, she had made it big in the world.

“But if it’s all about their talent and their efforts, then what does it mean for people who tried just as hard as them or are far more talented than others?”

It's why I linked this more with leaving a foot on history rather than talent. Sure one person can be far more intelligent than another, but if their talents are wasted on something else, or if they just aren't at the right time or right place, then their whole story could disappear like the wind. And Solo leveling, though it doesn't tell fate or divine ordainment is there, the change of fate, the change of the past and future and present and one’s own soul is shown. and it is possible. The Cup of Reincarnation, the past timelines, the vessels of rulers and monarchs. freaking reawakenings. In a way, it's almost like everyone’s story has already been decided, and at the same time, it can be changed as well. So no. It isn't almost all powerful physically or mentally or creatively, it's those who ought to be remembered, both in good and bad ways, those whose story linger (could linger) even after they are gone.

Now, for the Manhwa, this is the same as before, but a little bit more clear in terms of S rank’s powers.

To some extent that is shown even between S ranks that there can be powergaps as well. Like Shimizu being a more powerful (if weapons and goto’s words are anything to come by) healer than Byunggyu because she has more resilience and pride in regard to her powers. So really, strength of any kind isn't just for those who are more powerful physically, but those who seem to be faces that could change the world they are born in. And in a way it seems like she will still be more in the spotlight the longer she keeps being an active hunter, unlike Byunggyu who had been the first to retire completely unharmed. Again, another time where fate is doing its thing and granting more powers to those who would use it.

“But what about Matsumoto and Minoru? They are cowards or became cowards and are still s rank? shouldn't they be less powerful then?” Well yeah they have been traumatized, or just been outright scared of fighting, but they never stopped, even if it was by force of Goto (which was not since they care about the backlash of their guild and keep fighting even after Goto’s death) they still did their work and never retired.

Choi Jongin, is also the other case where, though we don't know how much work he had to do to get to where he was, he still managed to elevate his status to the point where in the extras, his company is planning on working with Jinho’s.

Solo Leveling Ragnarok also introduces me with a new knowledge which outright proves a lot more about the fate of humanity, of the rest of the denizens of the universe as well, and had left me up with the speculation that, as much as Solo leveling says that people’s powers are just by random chance or luck, they in fact aren't.

Rather, all this talk about how they set their presence during history, and how the fate of someone can change, yet only through the tampering by the rulers and monarchs, has led me to draw back to the whole root of the problem in the first place. and that is the Absolute Being Himself.

He created, not unlike the other Itarims were they made all their fragments be servants faithful to their God, he created fragments of light and fragments of darkness for them to fight each other, for HIS entertainment. And while yes the whole story only says that those are the beings he made. THe freaking Absolute Being also had to make the whole universe as a whole, and by extension plan for its destruction and creation, and destruction again. It created everything, not to mention that it was also an inherent source of life to the World Tree itself which also created life for the armies of the rulers, thereby still having somewhat of a power, of a force behind every single creation. And while I don’t think he is going to have the control of every action that is done, I do think AB might have planned the fate of his souls, how much powerful they can be, how much they cannot, like creating vegetables or fruits, this ones have this much sodium, this ones have around this much sugar, more than others, etc. And so their faiths are more or less sealed with how much power they have.

That is until the Rulers began to tamper, and even the monarchs as well. Humanity isn't meant to have magic, which is probably the reason why some fall into a deep slumber as they are weak to mana, or why most who do have its intake are stuck in the same rank (BUT AHH IF WE GOT MORE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT REAWAKENED PEOPLE WE COULD NEGATE THIS CONVERSATION OR BE IT ANOTHER PROOF THAT I'M GOING SOMEWHERE AHHHH), whereas the only reawakened we know of is Jinwoo, who of course, ad their faith tampered by Ashborn into being the strongest. The same is with Suho, and to some extent Haein due to her pregnancy. Il-hwan, Thomas, Liu, Siddhart, and Reed also display, even in another timeline, how they have been affected by the powers of the ruler’s feeling as though they could reach a higher potential than the one they have right now. So in a way their fates really do change quite a lot in every interference the Ruler’s have made. To the point where they can even remember past events without the need of the connection with the shadow monarch.

And thats… that's intriguing, especially when it's known in the epilogue that the essense itself of the Rulers and the Monarchs, the fragments they are made of, literally go out and still SEARCH for a new vessel out there to take their power. See the soul of a Monarch/ Ruler can die, dissipate and go into the sea after death. but the fragment of darkness/light? no, they still go out and search for another host they go out and keep the battle going. As if, to some extent, AB is still out there controlling them, despite his death. And funnily enough it seemed that his death, though causing the loss of the World Tree’s energy to bare more fruit, it also gave out a substitute for that in the form of the Shadow Monarch, so as to keep the fights ongoing as much as possible.

the thought of him still pulling fate, still mending the choices by the nature of what he created, even after his death, is awe and creepy honestly. Never thought much of it that way. Heck, he might have known that the overprotectiveness of his angels would lead to his death, but in the end, it would make another big show, not between just the rulers and the monarchs, but also between the outer gods themselves.

And if he wanted so much entertainment, he definitely got it beyond death.
