Looking Back on 2018
1:What did you do in 2018 that you’d never done before? Filmed a movie, stage managed a play, and went to Disney’s California Adventure.
2:Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t think I even made any this year, so probably not.
3:Did anyone close to you give birth? No
4:Did anyone close to you die? A couple uncles, but they were older.
5:What countries did you visit? Outside of video games? None.
6:What would you like to have in 2019 that you lacked in 2018? My own place and a sense of purpose.
7:What dates from 2018 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? May 10th and May 21st, going to Disneyland and California Adventure for the first time in 12 years and first time ever, respectively. 3/20 means music #AJR. My friends threw me a pretty cool surprise birthday party, so 4/26.
8:What was your biggest achievement of the year? Surviving.
9:What was your biggest failure? Completely botching school this past semester.
10:Did you suffer illness or injury? I started the year off almost dying from dehydration of all things. Drink water, kids.
11:What was the best thing you bought? A car.
12:Whose behavior merited celebration? My friends, whom I love dearly.
13:Whose behavior made you appalled? Some of my friends, whom I still love despite it.
14:Where did most of your money go? My friends, whom I keep telling myself I love dearly. Lol, jk. But yeah, friends and food and GAS.
15:What did you get really, really, really excited about? Obviously Disneyland, c’mon now. Filming the movie was exciting but nerve wrecking.
16:What song will always remind you of 2018? “Thank U, Next” by Ariana Grande, and “Thank U, Jeff” by James Corden.
17:Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? © richer or poorer? About the same level of happiness, sadly fatter and poorer.
18:What do you wish you’d done more of? Homework and exercise.
19:What do you wish you’d done less of? Feeling sorry for myself.
20:How did you spend Christmas? Playing games with my family.
21:Did you fall in love in 2018? Nah, fam. Lol.
22:What was your favorite TV program? I didn’t have TV at all this year, so I Love Lucy on Hulu.
23:Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Nope.
24:What was the best book you read? Not a book, but the script for Bonny Anne Bonny was amazing. Can’t say the same for the show.
25:What was your greatest musical discovery? Hipster BBQ on Pandora. It’s basically Radio Mirror Park from GTA V irl. I love it.
26:What did you want and get? A car, to quit my hell job, and to go to Disneyland.
27:What did you want and not get? To move out of my house, and just a little bit of sanity.
28:What was your favorite film of this year? I guess Infinity War by default. 2018 was a bad year for movies.
29:What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Being able to DRIVE myself places.
30:How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018? 2017.
31:What kept you sane? Music and friends. Always music and friends.
32:Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Garrett Clayton. He’s like if Zac Efron didn’t age terribly. And Noam Dar, the Scottish Bae.
33:What political issue stirred you the most? Jesus, where do I even start?
34:Who did you miss? Good friends I had trouble keeping up with.
35:Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2018. Nobody else knows what the fuck they’re doing either, so just do you and stop being so intimidated by life.
36:Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. “Thank you, next.” ~ Ariana Grande

follow your arrow - very, very nice lyrics and also sounds niice i mean very country-ish but niice
in a state - again lyrically really nice, kinda story song vibes i think and well the state thingy is great. oh and i like her voice a lot but sth about how fast it gets sometimes is not really for me
all american middle class white boy - all i could think was well at least he's self-aware. to be fair the song did make me laugh but the vibes are a little weird for me idk
no such thing - "i want to scream at the top of my lungs" big mood. john mayer does have amazing vibes always he just doesn't disappoint
conversations with my wife - this is very cute but musically not entirely my cup of tea
every little thing - why is this all so american. i mean i know why but. why. and why do they all sound so happy. not gonna lie though this kinda slaps 😅
ease my mind - firstly i want to be in love. so calming. is this on deep breath? it gives me deep breath vibes
also love how in the answer to my last ask you said you forgot the songs you gave me except for probably one song and that one you didn't even give me 😅 i listened to it anyway at least i'm assuming you meant five colours in her hair by mcfly? again it sounds so happy which is just not for me rn but i like it generally and the lyrics are great
YOU HAD NO TEA? oh god you poor thing. i hope you have tea by now and i think you're out of quarantine by now i hope you can enjoy a little freedom again. and i have not heard of fan girl but what i've put together by now from what you posted is that it has a lot to do with atl? do educate me about it if you wanna
and i genuinely have no fucking clue how i'm doing. over the last two weeks i've been pretty bad but i'm feeling okayish today so far so yeah. idk. -fiancee
hello fiancee i am SO SO sorry that i just neglected to answer this i read it when you sent it and then i went and did something else and then i just did not return to it. for eight entire days yes i am a professional blog runner

i KNOW absolutely appalling but fortunately i have managed to make up for the loss. i drank 73 cups of tea in january in case you were wondering which is not too bad
oh..............my goodness. i really don’t think i’m the best person to educate you on this but! fan girl is a movie that was made in 2015 about a teenage girl whose primary passions in life are film and all time low. it is, and i cannot stress this enough, a terrible movie. i watched it recently and i enjoyed it for the irony but man. it was so stupid. anyway so they got all time low actually involved with it and the movie basically ends with an atl concert and alex even has a scene before that where he has two lines look it’s a whole thing anyway. i’m not going to say i Recommend it because i cannot in good faith do that but if you really wanna watch it it’s like. two dollars or something on amazon prime dfgjklmgdgsgfj
anyway i am sending love hoping you’re doing alright now good vibes ONLY your way <3 love you

Favorite Songs of 2019
Tumblr media
2019 was a big year for music. Rock, pop, hip-hop and R&B all had their big moments in the spotlight. Billie Eilish and Lizzo bolted onto the scene with incredible, unique takes on what popular music could be. Taylor Swift, Eilish, Post Malone and more dominated the airwaves and the charts. Genres intersected to come up with some interesting and groundbreaking collaborations.
There have been some great songs to come out of this prosperous year in music. With 2019 almost at its end, Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, is taking a look back at some of our favorite tunes. Here are nine (and a bunch more) that made us think and feel this year.
1.       Vampire Weekend, “Harmony Hall”: Vampire Weekend made their big return this year, releasing an amazing album of alt-rock hits. I love the 90s-meets-current style the band has cultivated on the album, mixing in fun melodies with serious, thought-provoking lyrics. “Harmony Hall” is on another level though. Its mix of 90s melody, 70s flower-power and modern day worry. It’s upbeat and contemplative at the same time and political without being overtly political. (video)
2.       AJR, “Dear Winter”: AJR had another great year in 2019, releasing ‘Neotheater’ in the second quarter of the year. While “100 Bad Days” is a standout single with a big sound, I’m going to go with “Dear Winter” as one of my favorites. The vulnerability in Jack Met’s voice and words as he sings to his future child is palpable. You sympathize with how in his head he is and the loneliness he feels and how excited he is to one day have kids. It’s an emotional song and you’re there for every moment of it.  (video)
3.       Finneas, “I Lost A Friend”: Not just the producer of sister Billie Eilish’s music, Finneas put out some fantastic music of his own this year. “I Lost A Friend” is a minimalist, piano & snare-driven track is well-written and brimming with emotion. With every plunked note and vocal strain you hear his pain as he sings about having a falling out with his friend. (video)
4.       The Highwomen, “Redesigning Women”: Girl power was prevalent in country music in 2019, and no supergroup encompasses that more than The Highwomen and their debut single “Redesigning Women.” The quartet of Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires joined together this year as an answer to the Highwaymen. “Redesigning Women” is an anthem for hardworking women everywhere who break the mold, acting as both homemaker and breadwinner and then some. (video)
5.       Ice Nine Kills, “IT Is The End”: After seeing the video for “IT Is The End,” I was hooked on the creativity that is Ice Nine Kills’ music. The song, as well as the video, is based off the film ‘IT,’ and does a really good job of retelling the film’s plot in an interesting and entertaining way. (video)
6.       Lizzo feat. Missy Elliott, “Tempo”: While many are putting “Juice” or “Truth Hurts” on their year-end lists, I’m going with the Lizzo song that first caught my ear, “Tempo.” What made it for me was the beat, pacing and the body positivity of the lyrics. I also enjoyed Missy Elliott’s appearance on the song because both artists’ styles meld so well together. This generation needs a Missy Elliott and Lizzo is her. (video)
7.       NF, “The Search”: Music about mental health has been a big theme in 2019 as the stigma and curtain hiding it has started to lift. NF’s “The Search” confronts the effects of anxiety and OCD head on in beautifully crafted verse. He’s candid about his struggles and what he’s feeling, giving listeners an outlet to feel less alone with their thoughts. (video)
8.       Ozzy Osbourne, “Under The Graveyard”: This year brought the return of the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. Despite having to postpone his farewell tour due to a string of injuries, the former Black Sabbath frontman released his first new music in a decade this year. His first single, “Under The Graveyard” proves that he hasn’t lost his edge. The song features Osbourne’s characteristic haunting vocals and instrumental-heavy melody, as well as contemplative, dark lyrics that take inspiration from his life. (video)
9.       Billie Eilish, “Bad Guy”: Despite not having featured Billie Eilish’s breakout track on any of my previous weekly lists, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include “Bad Guy” on this year-end one. Usually songs with whisper-sung vocals don’t go as viral as this track, especially ones where the vocal is just so creepy (sorry, it just is). Then you also have the upbeat, zany bridge, which is completely different from the rest of the song (“duh”). This eclecticism is what makes “Bad Guy” one of 2019’s standout tracks, whether you’re sick of hearing it or not. (video)
Further Listening:
·         I Prevail, “Hurricane”: (video)
·         Waterparks, “Turbulent”: (video)
·         Charly Bliss, “Capacity”: (video)
·         The Avett Brothers, “High Steppin’”: (video)
·         Frank Turner, “Don’t Worry”: (video)
·         Meg & Dia, “American Spirit”: (video)
·         Set It Off, “Dancing With The Devil”: (video)
·         The Darkness, “Rock and Roll Deserves to Die”: (video)
·         We The Kings, “Turn It Up”: (video)
·         Simple Plan feat. State Champs & We The Kings, “Where I Belong”:          (video)
·         Mumford & Sons, “Beloved”: (video)
