// replayed the tall tale Seabound Soul last night and discovered some more things. Hello and welcome to Captain's TED talk about a skellieman First of all, just a reminder of how fucking big the Ashen Lords are. I was not exaggerating making Chi 10ft tall considering just how massive Horatio is compared to Flameheart's coffin. Even comparing the echoes of the Ashen Guardians to Horatio when those are normal sized Skellies.

You can also tell Flameheart is bigger but not much compared to the Ashen Lords, so fitting having him break 6ft but not be much taller we love a short Pirate King

but onto the things I noticed 1. The sound his skull makes. All the skulls in the Sea make a certain sound. A sort of wispy, eerie, whispering noise. Most of the variations have the same sound, except two particular ones: The Ashen Winds skull and the Skull of Siren Song. The thing is, the other skulls in the Tall Tale of Randall and Martha make the default noise. . . but Flameheart's makes the noise of the Ashen Winds skull. The very skulls that are technically the Ashen Lords' skulls. Might be something small but it can reaffirm the idea that Flameheart did indeed get the Ashen Curse, it just did not manifest in the same way it did on the Lords // Stitcher Jim 2. The bones on his hat + jacket + glove. I've been staring at them if they were just something decorative or had a bigger purpose. But it is very similar to the crate of ancient bone dust, so perhaps they are bones from the Ancients, sort of trophies // relics taken. There is also a heavy amount of bones around his resting place, including the skull of a kraken surrounding the entrance. It is a rather big achievement to be able to kill a kraken and rather interesting that the bones are on Flintlock Peninsula. . . it could very well be those bones on Flameheart's attire are either from his greatest kills or perhaps something enchanted. 3. Considering how Flameheart was killed, being the entire cabin of the Burning Blade filled with gunpower and set off by a dropped candle flame, his body is in pretty good condition. He is missing a couple of bones in his legs but everything else hardly looks scratched -- which is reinforced in the Heart of Fire novel where it is stated he did multiple enhancements to his bones aside from binding his soul to his skull. But also, blog-wise the styling of the gold added to reshape his skull is staying

4. Considering Flameheart is often called King Flameheart by his followers, his attire is rather lacking with the royal flare. It is most likely not a desire of being 'like the others' considering he is extremely prideful and sees himself as above -- otherwise he would have not converted the cabin of the Burning Blade into a throne room -- but may be out of finding it to be far too iconic to remove. Or one of the only materials to be able to withstand the fires inside him, considering in the image above you can see the burns left over in his eye sockets. 5. His coffin is sealed in blood. Whose blood? Who knows. It could be his own blood gathered before he lost his flesh. It could be blood of enemies or his greatest followers. In a lot of old cultures and enchantments, blood is something powerful, so it could very well be his own blood to enchant the coffin and only allow it to be opened by a certain person or at a certain time.

Warning - this list is literally just the same m/f couple in different fonts. A lot of these were more formative and influential in my childhood or were from series that are from a couple years ago. I am naming these as my top five because of how insane I went over them/how hard I hyperfixated on them.

When I made this list I was disappointed to realize that there hasn't been a wlw couple from a series or movie that has influenced me this powerfully, but I hope to find it soon and if you have any recs lmk! :) Will also include honorable mentions!

1. Kirsten Clark and Cameron Goodkin, Stitchers (2015-2017)

This is tied with Julie and the Phantoms for one of my biggest hyperfixations ever. Kirsten and Cameron were a slowburn that was done really beautifully and nobody was doing it like them. I watched this show at a very pivotal developmental point in my life, and I think these two taught me a lot about the work that a relationship takes and the fact you have to be willing to put it in - they were a healthy relationship example for me at a time that it was necessary for me to see it. They have a lot of character development over 3 seasons but grow together in healthy ways, and the writers kind of bake it into the plot that they're meant to be lmao. They also are just a great example of loving someone for everything that they are. They definitely made me a little mentally ill but also inspired me to be a writer, so...

2. Julie Molina and Luke Patterson, Julie and the Phantoms (2020)

I don't know how long you have been following me anon, but if I've been on your dash at all in the past couple years, it was most definitely related to Julie and the Phantoms, and probably related to Julie and Luke. In one season, they had insane development and beautiful chemistry. The way their characters were written made them naturally fit together, and made me cry "soulmates!" quite often. I will forever mourn what they could have been, and be grateful for some of the most stellar works of fanfiction I've ever read that were produced in their name.

3. Anne Shirley Cuthbert and Gilbert Blythe, Anne With An E (2018-2020)

Technically they're from the whole Anne of Green Gables Universe but AWAE is one of my Shows Of All Time ™ lol so I'm crediting them to the show!!! Just everything about them..amazing. Definitely gave me unrealistic expectations for love tho bc who tf assaults a man and still bags him in the end!??? Anne. She's that bitch and I haven't reached that yet but I'm working towards it.

4. Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, Pride & Prejudice (2005, dir. Joe Wright)

This is another one of those ships where I'm like if you've followed me long enough you could have seen this coming lol. These two are from the general Pride & Prejudice Universe, first created by the lovely Jane Austen, but P&P 2005 is by far my favorite movie of all time, and it is still breathtaking every time I watch it. Keira Knightley and Emmy Award Winner Matthew Macfadyen are really a perfect pair and their adaptations of the characters are so genuine and whole. Everything I do, I do for them.

5. Nina Martin and Fabian Rutter, House of Anubis (2011-2013)

My original Ship of All Time. Was very mentally ill over them. I rewatched this show last year and I expected to be like "oh god this is cringe how did young me like this so much" but instead I was like "oh god this is so well written how could anybody hate this show." Yes it has its silly moments but I could write essays on how well it was written. The foundation of trust between Nina and Fabian was more powerful than any "do you trust me?" YA teen fantasy movie moment of the 2000s. Fabian was the blueprint for every fictional crush I have had since.

Republicans co-opting Martin Luther King Jr.’s quotes while pushing policy and supporting legislation directly in opposition to the Civil Rights leader’s wishes is just one example of the party attempting to rewrite history.

In fact, there are so many examples of revisionist history happening these days, particularly among conservatives, that historian and University of Princeton professor Kevin M. Kruse felt the need to publish a book alongside fellow historians, and join this episode of The New Abnormal politics podcast, to set the record straight.

He talks about his book Myth America: Historians Take On the Biggest Legends and Lies About Our Past, which is a compilation of historian-written chapters that crush those myths, and shares proof that contrary to Republicans’ denials, the party actively engages in “Southern Strategy,” which is, as New Abnormal co-host Andy Levy explains, the “idea that as the Democratic Party moved away from being the party of slavery and segregation, the GOP sort of consciously moved to fill that void and to become the champion of white Southerners.”

From speaking in coded racial language to antagonizing white voters through fear and taking starkly pro-police stances, they’re absolutely following the knowingly racist playbook of conservatives past, says Kruse.

“This is not some wishful thinking theory that we’ve imposed in the past. The people we’re talking about in documents at the time, in interviews at the time, in books, talk about this,” says Kruse. “[Richard] Nixon talks about this in his memoirs. Harry Dent, his adviser, talks about it in his memoirs. Lee Atwater gives an interview where he talks about the old coded racism of the Nixon-era Southern Strategy. This has long been conventional wisdom. Heads of the Republican National Committee apologized for this. The thought that suddenly people are saying, ‘Oh, this never happened. This is all a myth,’ was just kind of insane and frustrating.”

He also explains Nixon’s role in solidifying this strategy for the GOP and also why we still are taught basic historical lies, including one that Andy is particularly invested in: George Washington never telling a lie.

Gregory D. Seriously though, Stitcher Jim was my favourite character when I first started playing and still is! I felt that I’d be remiss if I didn’t have a ship named after him. So here’s Stitcher’s Sorrow, made from parts of the Ashen Dragon and Forsaken Shores sets.
