@dark-crystal-week Day 3: Favorite Character
I’m late but thought I’d share this Deet I sketched a few days ago. It has been many moons since I drew Deet- or any canon character lol
Deet is my fave of the AoR cast. Her kind and gentle nature, as well as her connection to nature made her my favorite character. I’ll never forgive Netflix for canceling the series the day after it won an Emmy and for leaving the series on a cliffhanger. I want to know what happens to Deet!!
I’m kinda happy with how this sketch turned out. The last time I drew Deet was for Stonegrot week last year and…I think I made her snoot too long lol
I hope you all enjoy this little cave girl

Hello friends, just a reminder that we will be reblogging any Stonegrot Week posts until October 3rd. We know creativity takes some time and we’re always excited for content.
the themes for Stonegrot Week (Year 3!) were:
September 20th — Day One: Kiss The Girl. Rian initiates a kiss with Deet. It could be their first kiss or their millionth, it’s up to you.
September 21st— Day Two: Afternoon Delight. Rian and Deet share a perfect afternoon together.
September 22nd— Day Three: The Night Before. Something special takes place one night between Rian and Deet. It could be a conversation or maybe an intimate moment. The plot is up to you.
September 23rd— Day Four: The Morning After. A follow up to Day Three’s events. What happens between Rian and Deet after The Night Before? *If you didn’t participate in Day Three, that’s okay, create something you believe would take place between Rian and Deet spending a morning together. The plot is up to you.
September 24th— Day Five: Yesterday’s Feeling. This could be a follow up to Day Four’s events, or a headcanon during an Age of Resistance episode. What were Rian and Deet feeling for one another? The plot is up to you.
September 25th— Day Six: Tomorrow’s Promise. Rian and Deet make a promise to each other. Maybe about their future together? maybe about loving and protecting each other against the Skeksis? What will it be?
September 26th— Day Seven: The Future. Create a headcanon for what you think Rian and Deet’s future looks like.
Make sure you include the tags #Stonegrot and either #Stonegrot Week #StonegrotWeek and #Day (x). You can also add @stonegrotweek to your post(s) so we can see and reblog.

She knew her hands were small, but she also knew they were strong, much like the heart that belonged to the boy sitting next to the fire. His gaze was wistful as their friends slept.
Her hand fell on his shoulder, and she found herself swimming in blue waves. They almost drowned her.
"Rian…"
Rian felt something tug at his heart. Deet's onyx eyes focused on him intently and spoke something to him without words. His head dipped forward as tears stung his eyes. The grief of his own loss weighed heavily as the ghosts of the funeral song hung over them.
He felt Deet squeeze his shoulder, and he let the soft gesture warm him. He picked his head up once more and managed to smile softly.
"I'm alright."
The words came out before he could stop them, a function of being a soldier. Deet's mouth tensed at this, and she shook her head at him.
"Rian, you don't always have to be brave."
The words were small too, she knew, but she knew they were strong also. Deet watched as Rian seemed to let them sit in the air between them before he stood slowly. His mouth opened to saying something before he closed it without a word.
He began to walk past her with a good night on his lip, but her hand caught his own. Their eyes meeting as a fever crept into their cheeks. Rian began to stumble over his words, but Deet smiled.
Her hands were very small in his larger ones.
"Thank you."
Rian's words were simple, but they lingered with their hands locked for a moment. The silence around them soothing the chaos in both their chests.
Their only thought; tomorrow would be different indeed.

Stonegrot Week Day 3
@stonegrotweek
Title: A Blanket of Stars
Prompt: A stolen moment between Deet and Rian
Day 1. Day 3.
[-]
“What else is up there?” Deet asked, keeping her voice to a whisper as best she could. The others were asleep. Only she and Rian remained awake to look at the stars.
“You see those stars, there?” Rian said, pointing at the sky. “You see how they fan out like-”
“Wings!” Deet gasped, a little proud of herself. “I see it!” She was having a hard time finding the constellations Rian was showing her. There were just so many stars. Her eyes wanted to scan them over and drink them in. It was hard trying to fixate on only a few.
“That’s the Great Windsifter,” he explained, resting his arm again. “Legend says it carries messaged for the spirits of Thra.”
“I didn’t know there was so much to see in the sky,” she said, the stars reflecting in her dark eyes. There were so many. It looked like someone spilled diamond dust of a deep blue blanket. And it just went on and on.
“Can you see the stars in Grot?” he asked.
“Not really. There are several openings and cracks where you can see slivers of the sky, but you can’t see much apart from its blue color. I didn’t know there were so many stars. And you can see shapes up there too? Who first noticed the?”
His face crinkled. “I don’t really know. My father showed them to me when I was I childling, and my grandfather showed him. I’m sure Brea can tell you all about who first charted the stars, but I think it’s mostly just gelfling passing it down from one generation to the next.”
Deet tore her eyes away from the sky and turned her gaze to Rian. He lay in the grass beside her, one arm tucked behind his head and another resting across his stomach. She liked seeing him like this. During the day, his face was lined with worry and his eyes were sharp, always watching for potential dangers. Not now. Not he looked almost at peace.
“Rian…” she whispered.
“Yes?”
She wasn’t sure what to say to him. She wanted to tell him how much she liked seeing him at ease. She’d seen him go through so much heartache in the short time she’s known him. It wasn’t fair to put so much on one gelfling. She wanted to tell him he deserved to have to have more moments like this. That she wanted him to be content and calm. That she wished he didn’t have to carry so much pain in his heart.
In the end, she decided not to say any of it. He was her friend, true, but he was still a new friend. Telling him all that felt like too much too soon. Bringing it up now might even spoil this tranquil moment between them, and she didn’t want that.
“Thank you for showing me the stars,” she said. “They’re lovely.”
“You’re welcome.” He let out a soft chuckle. “Although, I had very little to do with them.”
“All the same, they’re beautiful.” She turned her eyes back to the sky as her heart grew even fonder.
So many stars. They went on an on. She could see how Mother Aughra got lost in them.

It Will Be Better
September 25th— Stonegrot Week Day 3: ‘Episode Continuation/Canon Compliance’ @stonegrotweek
This is a little prompt that is both compliant and divergent from Episode 10 “A Single Piece Was Lost” where, instead of Deet pulling away from Rian’s touch, she gave in.
All dialogue used directly from the series and rights belong to AoR and The Jim Henson Company.

Stonegrot week (2) Day 3: Stolen Moment
Forehead/head kisses are the best and I bet Rian gives the best kisses!
I wanna go back into this one and clean it up some more. I got kinda lazy with Rian’s forearm armor and their feet lol I also really liked the painting brush I used for the background and I might consider using that brush for all the flats.
I hope you all like this 3rd piece in this wonderful week!!!
Happy shipping!

Just a reminder that it is acceptable to participate in a theme for Stonegrot Week a few days after the specific date has passed. Late submissions are acceptable. We understand creativity takes time. Throughout this entire week will be sharing the tagged submitted work. If you came up with something for Day 1’s theme when it’s Day 6, we would still be delighted to reblog it! We just don’t want any work released prior to the scheduled theme i.e. we don’t want to see work for Day 7 when it’s only Day 3. We want to be surprised. Submitting a piece of work for only one of the Stonegrot Week days is acceptable as well. You are not required to participate in all 7 days. Thank you! Happy shipping.

A Moment To Spare.
Tumblr media
For Stonegrot Week Year 2 --> Day 3: A stolen moment between Rian and Deet
The two met each other on the stairwell. Him dragging his feet against the stone; She heading her way up, hand splayed against the round stone wall to keep her upright. Both of them were dead to the world, their eyes blood-shot from lack of sleep. They had been up all night, both planning for an up-in-coming battle. Rian had been in the courtyard of Ha’rar, drill training young ambitious gelfling who were itching to teach the Skeksis a lesson. Meanwhile, Deet had been in the armoring, her hands working away at the many materials that were needed for the smoke bombs for the battle.
The two had worked until the dawn kissed the sky. Light leeched in through the small slit-window within the stairwell, the air dry and dusty.
The two met half-way, stopping just near each other.
“Deet,” Rian greeted, his eyes cast forward.
“Rian,” Deet answered back.
“How are you, love?” Asked the Stonewood warrior.
The Grotton stifled a yawn that was crawling up her throat. “I could be better,” She answered. “How about you?”
“What I wouldn't give to lay in our bed. And sleep in our own sheets; Maybe even spend a few ” Rian said softly, his thick Stonewood accent showing forth. He gave a grin, but it was forced, the corners of his mouth tight.
Deet didn't feel like giggling. Everything in her body was dumb and she wanted to be away from the dusty, cramp’d stairway. Rian could see that Deet wanted nothing to do with his joke. Sighing, he closed his eyes, placed a shoulder against the wall. Everything felt as if a weight was tied to his bones. Even in all his years of being a Skeksis guard did Rian ever felt this tired.
“Don’t worry, Love.: He whispered. “It’ll be over soon. I promise.”
Deet said nothing. All she did was nod.
Rian felt his heart drop. He wanted to do something. Suddenly, Rian took her hand from the wall and kissed her palm. Deet shivered at the touch of his lips against her skin. Inside her stomach, she felt the gentle rush of emotions awaken. Feeling her eyes sting and her throat tighten, she pressed her forehead to the wall. She tried to push it down, down deep into the darkest hole in her soul, but it was no use. She lets the tears fall, not bothering to wipe them away.
Rian said nothing. All he did was hold her hand his lips, peppering her skin with kisses, hoping to keep this stolen moment going as long as he could before they parted ways.

Stonegrot Week Day 4
@stonegrotweek
Title: Rag-Tag Romance
Prompt: Brea plays matchmaker for Deet and Rian.
Day 1. Day 3. Day 4.
[-]
Brea looked around at her rag-tag crew. If she were being honest with herself, she had to admit they weren’t her ideal team for this job. Her plan required subtlety, finesse. Though her new friends were brave, loyal, and true, she feared they may be in over their head.
“Alright,” Brea addressed her team as they congregated behind a bush, “they should be back with the firewood soon. Let’s go over the plan one more time. Hup, when they get back, what do you do?”
“Hup make fire for aminya Deet,” he answered.
Brea nodded. So far, so good. That made at least one other person who knew their part. “Right, and Naia?”
“I offer to take the first watch.”
“Good, good…” she went on. “And if they refuse to let you do their chores?”
“Insist!” they said in unison. Or at least Brea thought they did. To her ears, Naia’s answer sounded more like “force him” but she decided to let it go. It was close enough.
“Right,” Brea said, “and Kylan?”
“I start playing my firca,” he answered.
“Casually,” she stressed. “Play it casually. Make them think you’re just playing it to pass the time.”
He nodded and she smiled. Of all her friends, she had the most faith in Kylan to pull this off. He was a songteller, after all, and there were love songs aplenty. If nothing else, the music shouldn’t be a complete disaster.
Speaking of music… “And Gurjin, what do you do?”
“I sing,” he said.
As rough and tough as Gurjin looked, he did have a lovely singing voice he liked to pull out from time to time. In fact, hearing him hum along with a song Kylan was playing is what inspired her to create this night.
“And what are you going to sign?” she asked.
“Well, I was thinking a song called the Weary Traveler.”
“And what is that about?” Brea asked, wringing her hands. She’d never heard of that one and the look Naia just shot him made her nervous.
“It’s about this traveler who gets lost in the Swamp of Sog,” he explained through a cheeky grin. “Luckily he’s found by these two sisters with really great…”
Naia popped him on the arm.
“…Hospitality,” he finished, smirking at his sister.
Brea ran a hand down her face. “Ugh, Gurjin…”
“I’m just joking,” he laughed. “I know exactly the kind of song you want. I’ll sing the Willow’s Blossoms. It’s a classic love ballad written by the great Drenchen poet, Noa. She wrote it for her lover, comparing her beauty to the blossoms of spring.”
Brea breathed a sigh of relief. “That sounds good. Just remember to sing it…”
“Casually, I know,” he assured her. “Like how I’m always casually singing love ballads at some point in the night.”
She ignored the sarcasm as hope rose in her chest. Perhaps they will pull this off after all. Deet and Rian had been so kind to her, even though they’d only known each other for a short time. She’d seen the looked those two gave each other, and she decided to give back some kindness of her own. Crafting this romantic evening for them was the least she could do.
She peaked through the branches of the bush at the campsite. They weren’t back yet. There was still a little more time to make sure everything was in place. She looked up at the sky as she thought of what else needed improving. “Hmm… Do you think the stars are bright enough tonight?”
“You want us to do something about the stars?” Naia deadpanned.
“It’s just, in the love ballads I studied, stars are referenced in about 17% of them. When you think about all other possible romantic imagery that could be used, that’s a lot.”
Gurjin raised his hand. “I have a question.”
“Yes?”
“When did you have time to study love ballads?”
“Oh, I did that a few trine ago.”
“Why?”
Brea shrugged. “I just had a free evening.”
“So, a few trine ago, you used a free evening to study love ballads for no particular reason, took note of the percentage of times stars are referenced, and were just able to pull that number out of your head?”
“Yes.”
He shrugged as well. “I have no further questions.”
“Keep in mind, I was working with a relatively small sample size, so my results can’t be generalized,” she clarified.
“What? Small sample size?” Gurjin feigned a scandalized expression. “You ought to be ashamed of yourself.”
“Hold on, I’ve actually got a question,” Kylan said. “I don’t know how Gurjin’s song goes.”
“That’s not a question,” Gurjin quipped. “Just follow along with me. You’ll be fine.”
“But I’m supposed to start,” Kylan went on. “An in any case, I’m the storyteller. Why don’t you follow along with me?”
“And what if I don’t know the song you’re playing?” Gurjin shot back.
“Why don’t you just put your lyrics to my music?” Kylan argued.
Gurjin looked aghast. “The great poet Noa composed that ballad herself. Do you really think you can do better than her?”
“I didn’t say that. I just-”
“Are you two really bickering over love songs?” Naia cut in. “They’ll be here any minute.”
Gurjin and Kylan continued their musical argument while Naia called them both idiots and Hup tried to get them to stop fighting and make the night nice for Deet. Brea groaned and rubbed her temples. All she wanted wat to set up a nice, romantic surprise for her friends. Evidently, that wasn’t going to happen. Maybe their little gang just wasn’t suited for this kind of work.
The sound of a twig snap silenced them all. Gurjin and Naia put their hands on the hilts of their swords while Hup brandished his spoon. After a tense few seconds of silence, they heard a quiet giggle from Deet, followed by a soft laugh from Rian.
The group let out a collective breath and peaked out through the leaves. There they found Deet and Rian alone together at the campsite. The two of them rested against the same tree trunk and talked quietly. In the light of the moons, their friends could see how their eyes sparked when they looked at each other. They looked like the only two gelfling in the world, enjoying a little moment of paradise.
“Hey Brea?” Gurijn whispered.
“Yes?”
“I don’t think they need out help.”
Deet and Rian let out another little burst of laughter.
“I think you’re right,” Brea agreed.
“Maybe we should just leave them alone,” Kylan suggested.
“They’re going to wonder where we all got to,” Naia pointed out.
“Yes, but for now,” Brea breathed, careful not to disturb the peace, “let’s leave them be.”
So, they all slipped back into the brush, leaving Deet and Rian to enjoy each other’s company.
