anyway I reached out to the acdca yesterday to see if they'd like a pedigree based historical analysis on the theory that I'm not going to stop being Like This any time soon so someone else should get to benefit.

maybe I should reach out to the stumpy tail cattle dog people while I'm at it, even if I do think they're making a totally insane decision to try and split the remaining Stumpies off from ACDs to preserve the type as a separate breed based on conclusively debunked historical arguments.

like don't get me wrong, the stumpy type is probably easier to market to sport people than ACDs within the "small very sporty balanced fast herdy dog" niche that so many little herding breeds keep taking fad places in. it's totally worth preserving, even if it does mean working with natural bobtail. nice little dogs; I seriously considered one before realizing that the stockier rectangular dogs were more comfortable to drape over my lap. (yes, this was literally my decision process. if I was going to fool myself into thinking I am ever going to be a Really Srs Dog Sport Contender as a thirty something academic with no interest in breeding myself I probably would have gone for a stumpy but my goals were better met by ACDs.)

but taking the traditional vaguely dubiously historical It's Its Own Totally Independent Thing rather than frankly an astonishing accident of history where one breeder managed to preserve both a historical cattle dog type (leggy. square. light and fast.) and also a gene that is aggressively selected against by the larger ACD fancy for reasons that boil down to 1970s Queensland conformation ring politics (natural bobtail) basically by being a stubborn old asshole bitch is, uh. well like I have a lot of respect for her and the dogs, but blocking outcrossing to a large and thriving population of dogs while you try to preserve that line by inbreeding it on itself is just not smart. she had to do that while the kennel club had its head up its ass but that doesn't mean we have to do it forever for stupid reasons.

When she's annoyed, her little stump flicks like an annoyed cat's. All of her wildshape forms will have shorter tails, too.

I wish we could see more random mutations in Warriors

like I HC that Silverflame was born with a random mutation that caused the 'flat faced' appearance [esp since I'm not super into aligning these feral cats with specific breeds] that got passed down to Brightflower [then Yellowfang and Nutwhisker - which Nut's is a headcanon - and then, o/c, to Brokenstar from Yellowfang's side]

like a lot of breed characteristics we know started with random mutations

from the hairless sphynx cat, to the folded ears of the Scottish fold, and even munchkin legs all started as mutations and there are cats not of those breeds that are born with them

idk I just think about this a lot

While it's very understandable (reptiles are they're so cute and amazing!), wild animals are not meant to live in a cage or terrarium. Not being judgemental but when we buy them we promote poaching. Please, think it twice. Your pet will miss you when you're out but mostly it will endanger other wild animals. Love your blog, btw. ❤🐍🦎

the two most likely candidates to be my epic beast are a woodchuck/groundhog (apparently these are two names for the same thing. according to the f i e l d g u i d e) or maybe a muskrat. however their respective natural habitats, open grass/woodlands and aquatic marshes/ponds/rivers, don't seem to match up with taco bell drive through parking lots.......
