Hernia Treatment: Understanding Options and Achieving a Healthy Recovery
Tumblr media
Hernias are prevalent medical conditions that impact a substantial number of individuals globally. the good news is that hernias are treatable, and individuals can expect to achieve a healthy recovery with the appropriate medical care. In this article, we will explore the different types of hernias, treatment options, and the recovery process to help you better understand this condition and make informed decisions about your health.
Understanding Hernias A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue pushes through a weakened area in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. The most common types of hernias include inguinal (in the groin area), femoral (lower abdomen), umbilical (belly button), and incisional (resulting from a previous surgical incision). Hernias can vary in size and severity, but all of them require medical attention to prevent complications.
Treatment Options Watchful Waiting: In some cases, especially with small, asymptomatic hernias, a "watchful waiting" approach may be taken. Regular monitoring and lifestyle adjustments, such as avoiding heavy lifting and maintaining a healthy weight, can be recommended. Hernia Truss: A hernia truss is a supportive apparatus designed to maintain the hernia's position and alleviate discomfort. However, it is not a permanent solution and is typically used for temporary relief or in cases where surgery is not advisable.
Surgical Repair: Surgery is the most common and effective treatment for hernias. There are two main approaches: a. Open Hernia Repair: In open hernia repair, a surgeon makes an incision near the hernia and pushes the protruding organ or tissue back into place. They then use stitches or mesh to strengthen the weakened muscle or tissue. Recovery time can vary but is usually a few weeks. b. Laparoscopic Hernia Repair: Laparoscopic surgery entails creating minor incisions and employing a camera along with specialized instruments for hernia repair This minimally invasive approach often results in shorter recovery times and less post-operative pain.

I have constantly thought this exact question for many years. For some, the answer never comes and for others it comes as a dear friend. Chronic illness is one of the leading causes of suicides. To try and stop the pain. To take the pain medication just to stop the pain. To try and make you just forget the pain and feel just normal again, even for one second it is worth it for someone with chronic pain. How crazy that this world does not see that people who have chronic pain are killing themselves just to have a few moments of peace. How sad of humans have we become to be neglectful of people who are literally crying while saying the words “I’m fine” #spinalcordstimulator #chronicillness #chronicpain #nevro #1stphorm #spinalpains #duespaid #legionofboom #postlaminectomysyndrome #postlaminectomy #thoracicmobility #thoracicpain #thoracicsurgery #thoracicspine #thoracicsurgery #surgicalrecovery #surgicalrecoverysucks #paidmydues #athletemotivation #surgery #survivorseries #spoonie #spooniestrong #spoonieproblems #spooniesupport (at Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrEq1YuB1iS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qd00zswbmoek

Surgery & Post-Op
It was a beautiful Wednesday morning, mom was actually awake and on time (shocking!), and our drive was about an hour to Westminster to knock out the Bilateral Breast Reduction.
Let me start off by saying Carroll Hospital is amazing!  All of the nurses, techs, and everyone that helped me that day were so nice and so happy.  And there’s a full Starbucks in the main part of the hospital!  Made mom’s day XD
So we went over the initial admissions part, then the weight and height, then the “change into this gown, open to the back, pee in this cup, blah blah blah.”  The usual rigmarole.  The worst part of this for me was getting the IV.  I haaaate needles, but it’s a necessary evil if you want operations.  Of course, since I couldn’t eat or drink after midnight, I had no fluids in my system so finding an IV was like pulling teeth.  Thankfully, Jaya was able to get me with one stick so I wasn’t traumatized.
Dr. Del Corral came in and did his drawings on my boobs so he’d know where he was cutting.  My mother thinks he’s drop dead gorgeous (pictures to follow), and had no problem telling that to every nurse she interacted with.  He was a complete professional and got everything done while answering my mom’s questions about his accent and where he grew up.
Then it was time for the big show!  The surgery lasted about 2 hours, and it took me a while to wake up from the anesthesia, mostly because I’d never had it before.  Didn’t make me sick though, so that’s a plus!  Recovery went smoothly and after I was able to pee I was able to go home.  They even ordered my prescriptions before surgery to have ready for when I was discharged, SO efficient!
The incisions are in an anchor shape, and included moving my nipple up higher, then removing side and underneath in basically a pie shape, then closing up the pie.  They are being held together with a bonding skin glue, and covered by waterproof mesh tape for protection.
They recommend someone be with you for the first 24 hours, and my family takes that to mean the first week, so I’ve been at mom and grandma’s house since Wednesday.  Making sure to move around at least a little is mandatory to avoid blood clots and soreness, so I’m taking some small walks to the kitchen, bathroom, out back to get some sun, then back inside for rest.
The pain is pretty manageable if I remember to take 1 pill every 5 hours, and the antibiotics are getting the job done.  Day 1 I was more sore on the nipple area, but after that it’s been consistently the under-boob and side-boob area.  I’ve been able to shower since Thursday morning.  It was pretty interesting to see how they’ve reattached everything and how my breasts are much smaller than they were before.  I change the dressing by myself, could use better gauze pads but I make due with what I got.  They were much more swollen and hard on Day 1, but now they’re starting to soften up on the tops and the sides.
I got a little dizzy yesterday getting ready to shower, but I think that was more because I didn’t eat enough.  I’m a little concerned about sleeping in a bed since I normally sleep on my stomach and I don’t want to try and turn while I’m asleep, so I’ve been sleeping on the couch pretty well.
I’ve been killing time by watching old Zumba(r) videos and getting myself mentally prepared for classes to start again.  I miss my classes like crazy, but this will make it so much easier to teach.  I’m also using this as the beginning steps towards a healthier diet and lifestyle.  Will keep updating as things heal/change <3

Right after I drew the #mystery card from the #soultrees deck, I drew the #twolittlewitches card from the #oraclesofshadowandlight deck. This card tells me it is a time to cleansing out old energy and old spaces to make room for something new. I can definitely feel things changing and the energy clearing right now; even though what is to come is still a mystery to me. I am ok with not knowing what’s coming at this point. I could just get lost in the imagery of this card for now while I wait for things to change. The illustrations in this deck are captivating, and the cards are comforting in a strange way. I like the oddness in the feel from this decks. I am really pleased with my recent deck purchases. I am continuing to recover from surgery and am awaiting the time when I can start recording new videos to share readings from my new decks on YouTube. #oraclecardreadings #oraclecards #witchesofinstagram #change #clearingoldenergy #waitingforsomethingnew #witches #healing #surgicalrecovery #resting

This is what my recovery looks like. A guy from Chicago having his first solid food in a week. What’s his request? And did the hospital come through? Well, I asked for an Italian beef sandwich and some lemonade, and by golly and the good graces of living in Chicago that’s exactly what I got! With a side of cottage cheese! Rumor has it that breakfast tomorrow will be #chilaquiles!!!!
