Love grows (where my rosemary goes) prequel

pure fluff, oc is a nervous gay mess, oc's name is Cheri and her kid is named Rosemary

Cheri truly was wondering why she agreed to bring her six year old to Storrs Connecticut for a basketball game, Rosemary has been obsessed with basketball since she was a baby, but she was mostly obsessed with a player that wore the jersey number #5 and the kid talked her mom in to taking her to a game if she did good in school.

Rosemary reminded her mom a lot of herself, persuasive, high energy and a deep love of basketball. Cheri grew up in a family of athletes, her mom played basketball, her sister played soccer and her dad played football, she herself played basketball until she graduated high school and has her jersey number #5 tattooed on her hand, so she shouldn't be shocked her mini me looks up to any player that wears that number.

So that's how she got herself sitting on the steps of gampel pavilion, with Rosemary in an oversized Bueckers jersey down to her knees in very high spirits, she was practically jumping off the walls with how excited she is.

"Rosemary get down, you're gonna get hurt honey" Cheri says lightly tugging on the backpack leash over the jersey Rosemary begged for. "i know you're excited but some sit with me until its time, okay?", complying Rosemary sits next to her mom with a massive grin on her face. "Momma i wanna play here when im old like you" the 1st grader said softly, taking in the sights of a brand new place for the two, being from new york and a die hard syracuse fan, Cheri has never been so this was a first for her too.

She was now fiddling with the leash her overactive daughter was attached too, Cheri had pulled some strings (using her moms connections) for Rosemary to meet her favorite player and she was praying that the strings worked.

it didn't help that she was deepy down bad for Paige, like hell, Rosemary's dad is practically the male version of her. Cheri was just hoping she could keep herself together in front of quite frankly her dream girl.

When 6-foot-7 center Kamilla Cardoso enters the WNBA -- likely as a top five pick after Monday's draft -- she will face a new challenge, in coming up against the world's best players on a regular basis. Outside the college game with the South Carolina Gamecocks, Cardoso has proven her ability with the Brazil national team under José Neto - including against the college coach who would later help her become one of the most sought-after prospects in women's basketball. On June 19, 2021, Dawn Staley and Cardoso crossed paths as competitors on the court for the first time. A month and a half earlier, Cardoso had transferred to South Carolina from Syracuse, where she spent her freshman season. However, on this particular day, Staley and Cardoso were adversaries as Neto's Brazil looked to plot a path past Staley's USA in the FIBA AmeriCup semi-finals. Ultimately, the USA won 71-60, but Cardoso proved to be undaunted by the occasion - putting in a huge shift on defense. Of her 10 rebounds on the day, eight were defensive rebounds. According to Neto, it is no accident that Cardoso is entering the WNBA as a player considered ready for a seamless transition from college basketball to the professional game. Rather, her success is a result of young players deliberately being exposed to international camps with Brazil's established WNBA stars.

Y’all i don’t wanna be a downer but i’m keeping my expectations kinda low for monday. I just think the fatigue will be too much to overcome by that point and it really would need to be a case of USC beating themselves too, like Duke did tonight as you said, and i just don’t see that happening. I love our girls so much, but the reality is, I think even having come this far with all the key players we’re missing is already such a testament to their perseverance and resilience and if you would have told me in December, heck even after the ND and SC games, that we made it to the elite eight, i wouldn’t have believed it.

So i’m just gonna enjoy Monday, and hope that it’s a competitive one and everyone plays our brand of basketball and of course if they do get the dub, i will be so over the moon. But, at the same time, i don’t think i’ll be too disappointed if they don’t win, like i’m just so proud of them for having made it this far in spite of everything 🥹

You're so right. The haters are going to make a huge deal out of UConn losing as if people weren't *seriously* expecting us to potentially lose to Jackson State. This team has gone through hell and has still been the epitome of resilience. There's a version of this team that would have probably caved to both Syracuse and Duke's push for comeback and that we didn't, is a huge testament to our growth.

At the end of the day I'm a Paige Bueckers believer and a part of me will always think we have a chance as long as we have her but at the same time, it's hard to overlook just how tired this team is and just how little room for error we have. But it's not over til it's over and no matter how it ends, these are still my girls for life. 💙

The WNBA crest follows on the left before the Olympic rings back on the right. The road curls into a mountain that crowns on top of the scar still visible from one of two ACL surgeries from college.

“It’s a manifestation piece for me,” Sykes explained.

The Washington Mystics guard, better known as “Slim,” has inked a collage of her life and mind-set across her body. She calls her skin a canvas and on it has painted the complicated picture that is her existence. The road represents Sykes’s journey. The mountain is the giant challenge that was the comeback from those two ACL tears.
