I was tagged by @boosbabycakes28 (thank youuu!) to post a snippet from my wip. This is from my angsty, soulmates sickfic for @1domegaverseficfest

His stiff posture unchanged, Harry’s jaw twitched before he spoke. “I don’t know what you expect me to say. All is forgiven? Because it’s—.” Harry uncrossed his arms, his tote bag falling to the pavement. Even though this conversation was clearly not going in the direction Louis had hoped, he instinctively reached down to pick the bag off the ground.  “Nothing’s forgiven, Louis,” Harry snapped, snatching the bag from Louis’ grasp. His fingers brushed Louis’ for only a moment. “If you want to make anything better, just leave me alone.” The force that flowed through Louis’ fingers knocked him a bit sideways, causing him to stumble. At first he thought Harry had shoved him away, but in the next instant a burning pain seared up his arm. He clutched it in confusion, looking back at Harry as though for answers, but he’d already turned away from him.  Dread filled his heart. This had been the moment Louis had been waiting for all his life, his soulmate’s touch bonding them to one another forever. Louis can feel the bond, an invisible string between them tying its knot only to immediately be sliced through with Harry’s rejection of it.  “Sorry to bother you then,” Louis managed to croak out.

1. Are you named after anyone?

i don't think so but as far as i can retrace my name it's greek, somehow ended up in russia and then was made popular outside of russia via doctor zhivago's lara/larissa... (still have to read that!)

2. When was the last time you cried?

I cried from an allergy i have to certain skin cremes last night at the cinema... apart from that i don't remember atm but certainly not long ago

3. Do you have kids?

nope

4. What sports do you play/ have you played?

i did swimming when i was like 14 (i still like swimming a lot but i'm not in a club or anything anymore)

5. Do you use sarcasm?

no :-)

6. What is the first thing you notice about people?

this has always been a weird question to me... their??? face?!?!! (*laughs nervously* wouldn't that always be the first thing to notice about someone???)

7. What's your eye color?

blue

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

a weird opposition. i don't really like horror movies and i prefer the ending a story needs and deserves, so some stories (e.g. a story on two traumatised young men who love and need each other more than anything or anyone else in the world in a mediocre prime time crime show) certainly deserve a happy end, other stories (e.g. a film that displays some severe social grievances) often should not have a happy ending because there isn't one to be expected in reality either... except for sometimes, for example, when it is about two queer men in 1913 Britain, finding and loving each other against all odds and all social norms, written by a gay man in the same era, then of course a happy ending can be imperative even :-)

9. Any talents?

people don't tire to tell me how ~creative i am... and that despite my apparent total lack of (visual, auditory, sensory) imagination 🙃 so there's that

other than that... i think i am good with words and i write since i literally can write and nothing brings me more joy than having written.. writing has been like the most important thing in my life for 26 years now even though it has always been something that happens more like 'in the background' of everything else

10. Where were you born?

in one of the (imo) most village-like "Großstädte" of Germany... if i told you where you'd probably know it because of one specific thing... i've been all the way to other continents and people knew it just because of that

11. What are your hobbies?

most hobbylike things are probably analogue photography, building stuff around the house (shelves etc.) and going to the cinema (or like film in general)

12. Do you have any pets?

no, but i had mice and i miss them... if i had more time and more space to have an adequate place to keep them i'd like to have mice or rats again...

13. How tall are you?

1,73

14. Favorite subject in school?

hm. not sports. i had a 'compulsory optional course' in physics/informatics and i always say it changed my life bc that's where i understood that i like and am good at technical and computer stuff... i also liked pedagogy (nrw superiority), the obligatory history course in 12th grade specifically and in the last years also maths... god do i miss solving math problems 😭😭

15. Dream job?

i wrote this in my friends journal when i was like 10 and it is still true but i think i am a bit past the point where this will ever happen but it's 'director ' (of films)... but that involves networking and other people and putting yourself out there... and uh... i just don't see that happening (i have directed but not in the slightest professionally), the other one of course has always been 'author' and i guess that could still happen... someday in the future maybe... you know, when I'm a grown-up

Big difference for everyone who write here and on tumblr. (Big post in drafts but I also want to say this separately)

Tumblr has a tag filter system and flagging. So people evading tag bans are a thing. This is annoying but I understand.

On ao3.

YOU NEED TO TAG PROPERLY! IT IS NOT AN OPTION THERE!

Now I do understand not wanting to spoil the story. But you don't have to tag every single little thing.

However

You do need to tag kinks, more extreme forms of violence, and 'morally reprehensible' content.

There is no algorithm on ao3. You will not be banned or flagged for using racy tags. Now people can still report your fic, but the mod team tends to be pretty fair. You need to give a reason for reporting and if they lie about it you will likely be fine.

BUT YOU WILL BE TAKEN DOWN FOR NOT USING TAGS!

On ao3 it is the opposite of a lot of social medias. If you don't tag the more extreme stuff, than people can and will and probably should report your fic for not including it.

Because ao3 is a place where anything goes. As long as it's tagged so people who don't want to see it don't have to. The tags are both a way to search for what you want and a way to filter what you don't. That's one of the biggest features of the website. One of the best search systems in terms of fanfiction websites.

On ao3 anyone can publish anything no matter what it is, as long as they tag it correctly. (I'm pretty sure there are hatespeech rules as well but that's not what we are talking about)

And if you tag it dead dove, that means people need to pay attention to the tags. Which means you must tag even more carefully and fully because you are calling attention to your tags.

Do not use replacement speech for these things. If you're embarrassed that you wrote it you can orphan it. Or use a different account you set up for your kink/violent/ other content. It's not as normal on ao3 but it's an option.

No not use 1 3 4 ! @ # $ + and such to replace letters on ao3 if you are tagging things. Because the filters won't recognize it and block it for people who don't want to see it. And people can report you for that.

There is no algorithm on ao3.

There is no censorship program on ao3 either.

So please tag. So both you can find your audience, and so the rest can avoid it.

Bruce Almighty [2003] -- i'll start off with something easy. this is the only jim carrey movie i would say i absolutely SUFFERED through, like, painful agony. something that bugs me is in his 10mil trilogy [ace ventura/dumb n dumber/mask] he is continually asked to repeat his original material shown in 'jim carrey's unnatural act,' his work before that, n his ad-libs in "in living colour." but you kinduv get it in the 10mil trilogy, like! theser are his first three big films and so naturally, these elements are necessary to instill a sort of marketable charm for him as a breakout. even though i think he'd already very much 'broken out,' but whatever. 'bruce almighty' is a pastiche of a pastiche, with a sense of abject cruelty that goes entirely against the charm of what makes early carrey movies, well, carrey movies !!! despite his hands-on approach to this flick, it just doesnt feel really like something he'd do under any other circumstances... i love u jim i hope ur ok and im sorry i dont like bruce almighty))):

Barbie [2023] -- this movie was primed to be adored by me. it had everything; margot robbie, bright colours, elaborate sets, a sort of blinding stupidity, something blatantly silly, and kitsch. i should have fucking loved this movie. if i had seen it in a theatre, i'd have up and walked out halfway through. it was around that mark that i paused the flick and turned to my mom and brother and asked "are you all feeling what i'm feeling?" which was this ... nauseating sense of cynicism. it was a wholeheartedly empty film, containing no amount of irony which was meaningful. all of the camp and kitschy aspects were self aware and intentional, which, obviously, cuts out the camp of it all. it is so self aware so as to be insulting to the viewer and provide nothing in the way of any kinduv social commentary, all while looking you in the eye, winking, and saying "we're doing all of this and changing nothing, isn't that so meta? i'm addressing you; aren't i meta? aren't i so 2023-chic? aren't i so nihilistic?" it was a hollow, cynical, capitalistic endeavour with no shame. the fact that this movie was released at all is a testament to our indifference as a culture, how we just sit here and eat whatever fucking shit we have put in front of it and usually, i'd be fine with that. i LOVE eating shit. but when the shit-taker looks you in the eye while feeding you his feces? fuck off. it is more than a pastiche, it is more than a disgusting and crude display, it is more than a first entry into an assured milieu of product-based universes, it is a misanthropic hateful display of consumerism that makes a fool of you and itself by shouting @ you from the screen: "WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE NOTHING AND YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE IT." furthermore, it is a crime against my faggot sensibilities. which is unacceptable. not to mention, it is genuinely cruel to the idea of men having personalities and hobbies and passions. but i know that's even less agreed with. save yourself the two hours and watch "pee-wee's big adventure" instead. at least pee-wee loves you.

Skinamarink [2022] -- offender of the highest order in horror: being boring. if you've seen a movie longer than an hour and a half with a slower pace, this movie is nothing. if you have ever watched dogma 95, it is nothing. if you have ever watched gummo or julien donkey boy, it is nothing. if you have ever been anxious in the heart of the night, it is nothing. it is nothing no matter which way you look at it. go watch the monument mythos or if you want a good horror flick made in the same year, then go watch michelle garza cervera's debut; husera: the bone woman.

Batman [1989] -- what a pitiful entry into the most whimsical, exhiliterating, absolutely fucking bonkers series of films ever. the burtonverse which contains this film and the following batman returns is alright, it's cool. like whatever, that's fine. i think the set and costume designs are sick and i'm excited for the new batman '89 comix that are coming out now, that's fine, whatever. but BORE ME DURING THE 1990'S BATMAN FRANCHISE!? a crime! michael keaton is such a trite and empty little creature. he looks stupid in the bat costume and not in a way that's fun like the much superior schumacher-verse flicks that follow the next entries after burton. bat nipples? bat cards? gay people? that's what the 90's batman flicks are about. it's aout not knowing what the fuck is going on but tommy lee jones and jim carrey are KISSING. only good thing about it is when jack n gets the makeup on he's absolutely fucking terrifying n that's how he rly is in real life in real !!!! in real life !!! fun fact !!!

Beyond the obvious take away I always have — that I have a very distinct style of starting everything with a single, stand alone line — the other thing I am taking from this is that everything I have written in the past year (and some, it took a while to get to 10 this time) is pretty focused on grief. I mean yeah, I always write angst stuff (it’s my brand) but a lot of this stuff is extra heavy. Also, I legitimately forgot about a lot of these. The process of compiling this post was filled with a lot of shouting down the hall at @justaswampdemon (because were finally actually in the same physical location and timezone!) that I had forgotten about this fic too.

But yeah, there you have it. I am also very pleased with all those fics minus the one that isn’t finished, so there’s that too.
