(Was going to wait until I was home and not on mobile but wth.)

Dany and Jon are going to get engaged.

They are going to get engaged because it makes too much political and sociological sense for them. Does that mean they’ll fall in love? No. Does this mean they’ll live happily ever after? Oh gods no. (Its Martin people, who gets a happily ever after?!) Here is how I see it playing out:

Dany has lost two key figures in her conquest: her fleet with the Greyjoys and her main allies with Dorne. She NEEDS strong allies to help her take over Westeros with as little bloodshed as possible since it won’t help her rule. Being a conqueror conflicts with this mother savior figure she has built of herself. She also needs to reunite the seven kingdoms under one rule. She NEEDS to secure an alliance with the North to tie the kingdoms together, regrow her support, and legitimize her citizenship to the country. (Despite being born in Westeros, Dany would be viewed as an outsider or foreigner since she grew up in Braavos.)

Daenerys Stormborne Targaryan would need a political marriage to Jon Snow, King of the North, to get what she wants (Iron Throne).

Now, what does Jon want? The most immediate answer is going to be dragonglass but that isn’t enough of a motivator. It would be terrible of Dany to deny a weapon that would protect the kingdom (presumably her kingdom) from the Night King and the undead army because Jon says no to marriage. There might be push or threat from Dany but I’m sure someone (Tyrion, Jon, or Davos) will make a point to say that if she intends to rule then she needs to act like a ruler now, not after she secures the throne. It also aides in her quest to be a loved queen. Its in Dany’s best interest to agree to dragonglass weapons for the North.

The real reason Jon would agree to a political marriage? To protect Sansa and Winterfell. This is going to mirrored from episode one where Jon and Sansa bickered over what to do with the Umbers and Karstarks. Sansa argued to strip lands, titles, and castles from those families over their betrayal in order to show strength. She was willing to punish children who had no authority or say to what their forebarers did. You know whose family was also betrayed and killed by houses that were supposedly loyal to them? The Targaryans. We justify this as an act of necessity since there was a Mad King who tortured his subjects but the war almost decimated the Targaryan line except for two children (well, three counting Jon). Dany could easily leverage a pardon into a marriage alliance and Jon would go for it because that is who he is. There’s no room for a convincing speech or shame to change Dany’s mind on punishing the houses that betrayed her family, she is far too gone for that.

Jon would agree to a marriage if it meant the Starks were pardoned and were able to keep their home. Yes, he is not getting the better end of the deal but he told Sansa he would protect her and they just got Winterfell back. He cares way too much about her and their home to let it slip through their fingers by a new vengeful Queen.

I fully expect the weirwood scene to be Jon telling Sansa about the arrangement and how he did it for her. This could startle and hurt her enough to walk away from him while stopping herself from looking back.

DOES THIS MEAN THAT JONERYS IS ENDGAME?!?!

No, not at all. This is Game of Thrones. Maybe they get married before boatbang or not at all. Maybe Dany dies in the great war or calls the whole thing off for a greater alliance. Maybe Jon dies (again)! Maybe the north no longer recognizes his authority making the alliance void. Maybe the zombies kill everyone. We don’t know yet. I’m personally holding out hope for Jonsa because it also makes sense and feels like a less forced relationship than a marriage with Dany would be with her current attitude. (She feels cold and closed off. I predict this will get worse the harder things get for her to get what she wants.)

So that’s my two cents.

*Add: Catching some heat from jonerys fans for the tag. Not changing it. Why? Because what I said doesn’t change the validity of your own ship. I basically explained the political motivations and the likelihood of how these two characters are getting together. Here’s another way you can interpret my same exact post in Jonerys favor: - Jon’s desire to protect Sansa and Winterfell could stems from a desire for family. Winterfell is his home and Sansa is the last person Jon can recognize as family. He has loyalties there. Again, its more than likely we’ll see episode 1s discussion of the Karstarks and Umbers fate mirrored in Dany’s regard to the Starks. Jon could argue leinancy, her advisors could tell her how Ned was honorable towards her fate, etc. A pardon would leverage Dany closer to what she ultimately wants and that is how she can get Jon to agree to a political marriage - which doesnt make her a villain, it just makes her a player in the game. And Jon’s feelings towards Winterfell or Sansa don’t invalidate whatever feelings he may have towards Dany - Dany is a hard character now. Think about everything she’s had to go through and overcome. Its built into a fierce, determined woman who cares about the people who serve her. However, she has also learned that people close to her will betray her, public opinion is incredibly fickle, and fear drives her point home - even if she is compassionate towards servant classes. She has had only two happy sexual relationships - Khal Drogo and pirateforhire (can’t remember his name). She also had two engagements that ended terribly and a dead husband, that makes new relationships with partners difficult. She is use to being the strongest person in the room and the relationship (after Drogo). There is the possibility that they marry and grow to care for eachother much like Ned and Catlyn. It could start as a marriage for alliance and blossom into a real romance. Jon could help Dany remember her softer side while Dany takes the reigns of ruling the kingdoms, which Jon would be more than okay with as she is a capable leader. (He’s notably uncomfortable in leadership positions). They’re outsiders who could bond over troubled childhoods, build a strong foundation of trust, and be the ultimate power couple. But its not going to be instantaneous and may likely not be this season. Again, I can be wrong about everything I said. I just like fiddling with ideas and this made sense to me from the political perspectives of the series.

Considering what the Ancient One was saying to Bruce about timelines, and Stephen clearly on track toward being the next Sorcerer Supreme officially

I want a time hopping tag team of past!Ancient One and present!Stephen Strange trying to understand wth went wrong with Steve's quite clumsy modifications of the time-line (because Steve Rogers going back to the past will necessarily have an impact, I just have a hard time imagining like Howard Stark not recognizing him? Would he just... Avoid everyone?? Not be social?? Force Peggy to hide his secret of future and oh gods how did he explain to Peggy how he came back??)

Like, I know the Ancient One would probably try to not play out with the time-lines and realities to much but if it had a more profound impact on the universe and dimensions than anyone would have expected, I can see her getting into a tag team with her successor

bonus plot point for Stephen maybe genuinely being quite guilt wracked and angry that this is what Steve took out of what Tony said about settling down and moving on, when Tony clearly sacrificed himself and put his heart, soul and mind to work to save the universe when he caught the hope that something was possible

(extra bonus point for Tony's soul ending up in the time travelling adventures of the Ancient One and Stephen Strange for some reason or another)

the bad end of the secret episode surprised me. i don’t care one bit about yozora so....idc about this otherwise.

this wasn’t worth $30. Just go watch the scenes on youtube and spare yourself and your wallet. Most of the good shit was in the free update anyway.

We’ve come a long way from the days of badly folded maps in the side compartment in the doors in our cars.

They were a mobile version of charm bracelets. You could tell if a person hadn’t visited a particular place because that particular map was still factory folded....you know, that knife edged perfection that once you unfolded the map that would be the last time you’d ever see it that way.

It didn’t matter how hard you tried....even if you got the folding pattern right the flatness of the paper was never ever the same again.

Ever.

I have many memories of my poor mother trying to read these things to my dad as most of my early life was courtesy of I-85 and its cousins I-95, Loop 410 and various routes across the United States, that I secretly hoped, included a stop at the infamous Stuckey’s so I could watch that fake bird lean over a cup of water, dip his beak in and pop back up... it takes more to entertain me now but for some reason I thought those ridiculous things were amazing. Kind of like the fiber optic mushroom balls of light that were sold in stores that also carried sexually explicit greeting cards.....

There wasn’t a Stuckey’s in Death Valley, though, and frankly the memories of that place are interesting as I lost a Lucky Locket Kiddle in one of those sand dunes....yes, a sad day for me....

My mom and dad would try to entertain me on those long trips. Sometimes we were moving to a new place, pulling a second car with plants in it and sometimes we were just traveling for the hell of it. When I was really young they would play barber shop and I would comb their hair from the backseat which was interesting because my dad took the military haircut seriously and just went for the bald look....he claimed he should pay me less than my mom for this various reason.

When I wasn’t doing that, counting all the money in my mom’s wallet on the backseat like a premature bank teller I was asking dad to “make them talk”. He would see a car that either was ahead of us or passing....whatever....and he would create conversations that might be happening in their car.

“Oh Mable, would you quit complaining....we’ll stop at the next town.”

“Henry, I”m hungry.”

“Ok, ok, I know....I told you we’d stop soon.”

On and on he would go. These ‘people’ would have the most interesting lives and dad would embellish more as mom and I would laugh.

Fast forward many years and my husband and I had the early version of OnStar. He would travel alot for work and sometimes just push the button on the interior roof to have someone to talk to. There were two different cities, usually, that would answer us on the east coast. Atlanta, maybe, and a northern city. I can’t remember now but he claimed one of them knew more so if he pushed the button and wrong city answered he’d basically hang up on them. We got lost more times with that car feature than we would just reading our own maps because basically that’s what they were doing anyway....and probably in a cubicle somewhere with hot coffee in front of them.

I hated reading maps. I would get nervous that I would read it wrong and we’d end up going out of our way and I would get yelled at.

OnStar was also able to unlock your car. Back in the day we had a new Cadillac and at the RDU airport my then husband parked it and I was to pick it up later. Afraid that someone would take the antenna off the rear window he unscrewed it and put it in the backseat. When I got to the car I needed to call OnStar to unlock it as my husband left the key inside for me. I have no idea now why we had this arrangement. Anyway....the OnStar people that I called on my phone said that the car was asleep.

WTH????

Yes, it slept in cycles.

What the hell ever....

I was unusually frustrated and I remember telling the guy to “wake the bitch up, I’ve got things to do.”

He laughed.

Various appliances and gizmos now talk all the time. To each other and to you. When dad sprung for a GPS he would get into arguments with the ‘voice’. Being a military officer the thought of some random female voice telling him where to go went against everything he stood for.....

He ended up putting ‘the bitch in the trunk”.

We laughed about it for years afterwards. At the time my mom was trying to tell dad that the route he substituted for the one the GPS was insisting was correct was a longer way....He responded with the retort that soon there would be two bitches in the trunk......

I use my phone to tell me where to go if I’m headed to an unfamiliar place and she’s relatively pleasant sounding.

Unlike the self checkout hot spots in various stores. Target and other places. There’s one particular grocery store I avoid at all costs because the disembodied voice telling you to put your item in the bag, re-scan the item, remove the item, put the item in the bag, check underneath your cart.....did you have coupons....were you paying cash....did you have your hair done recently.....

Take your change she would blather on....take all your bags.....take your receipt....Jesus....she had me so rattled one day that I spilled an entire container of blueberries on the floor. I told the lady who came over to help me round up these escaping berries that they needed a more relaxed version of the ‘voice’ or they needed to fire that one and start over with another idea. We were both laughing but I felt stupid being angry at someone bossing and rushing me around that didn’t even exist. I wanted to tell her to take the entire cart and shove it.....

Think about it....now your appliances can tell you what you need at the store and so while you’re arguing with the self checkout lady your refrigerator can call and remind you that you need more blueberries than you are actually buying....nevermind the fact that most of them are on the floor being trampled on by passers-by.

No thank you.....the last thing I need after a long day is to walk into my house and have my stove and dishwasher talking trash about me....

Sometimes you just want silence and I prefer to come home to the smooth jazz music I leave playing softly for my dog....it’s calming and if I’ve had a stressful day I usually blast some loud aggressive music on my drive home...which sounds counterproductive, I realize.

The old telephone commercial used to say....’reach out and touch someone’ but now since we have so many things talking at us all the time is it any wonder we would rather ‘reach out and tag someone’ instead?
