Just finished rereading the Daughter of the Lilies webcomic (because the writer and artist are posting remastered pages with commentary while they're on hiatus) and I have two things to say:
(A) storms it's so good.
(B) I have never wished for October so hard in my entire life.

9 People You Would Like to Know Better
I've been tagged by... A lot of people. @authortobenamedlater @fairytale-lights aaaaand it seems like somebody else, but those are the only ones I'm finding in my drafts. ANYWAY, thank you! <3
1. Three ships: Jisbon (Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon, The Mentalist); my first ship that really introduced me to the concept of shipping/fanfic/fandom in general. Garcy (Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston, Timeless); to this day my best experience with fandom as a community. It's hard to explain, but something about the bonding that took place while everyone was fighting to save the show together will make that ship forever hold a space in my heart, I think. And Emotional Compass (Will Zimmerman/Helen Magnus, Sanctuary); Chosen for being the latest ship living rent-free in my head, though I'm due for a new one any time soon.
2. First ever ship: So Jisbon was the ship that introduced me to fandom, BUT my first ship before I knew what shipping was? Either Superman/Wonder Woman, or, going back further, a spider and a worm from a couple of kid books I read. I don't remember the titles or anything now, but they were buddies, and I shipped them hardcore.
3: Last Song: Champagne Problems (Clean Version) by Taylor Swift
4. Last Film: The 1950s Cinderella
5. Currently Reading: Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card, and Once Upon A Christmas Heart by Melody Carlson. Vastly different books, I'll say.
6. Currently Watching: Not much. I've nudged a few different shows, but nothing is really sticking.
7. Currently consuming: Nothing. I have a bottle of water I should probably be drinking from, though.
8. Currently Craving: Rest. I had a busy and stressful dream last night (late to work+can't find boss's phone number to call and explain+texts to coworkers aren't going through+tried to drive there but drove to the wrong side of town+oh no I tried to get back in my car to drive to the right side of town and it Wasn't There Anymore+you get the idea), and am hoping I rest better tonight.
Tagging @accidental-spice @kanerallels @amandamonroe @the-kirbe-anon @taleweaver-ramblings @zeegeetee @exhaustedhope @songsintheattic and @dangerously-human but only if you want to play! And anyone else that wants to join in, feel free! Yes, that means you; I'd love to get to know you better! <3

9(ish) People You'd Like To Get To Know Better
tagged by @spacekrakens (thanks friend!! :D)
Last Song I Listened To: ummm tbh I cannot remember :') probably something that was playing on my local Christian radio station? I've not been listening to a whole lot of music, which is kinda sad...
Currently Watching: nothing very consistently... but my dad and I started watching the latest Star Trek series together a couple of weeks ago, and I've surprisingly really enjoyed it! and I've been watching various Angel Studios shows with my littlest sister
Currently Reading: does my Bible count :') other than that, I started "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales, which is a sorta 'psychology of survival' book? but then I got distracted from it and then it got buried under a stack of things in my room and now it's overdue at the library ugh
Current Obsession: uhm. preparing for college?? stressing about stupid things in my life?? trying NOT to think about all the random things that are making me cry lately??? trying not to think about all the random things that are making me afraid lately???? yeh.
I feel like I've become an incredibly uninteresting person as of late lol :') depression does that to a person I suppose
idk if I have nine people to tag but I'll try to think of as many as I can! (and no pressure if y'all don't wanna do this! :))

Got tagged by @friendrat!
Favorite Color: Light/teal blues and sunset orange gradients (orange to yellow)
Currently Reading: In between books at the moment, but just finished rereading The Legendary Inge by Kate Stradling! I may reread her book Goldmayne if I don’t find something new I feel like reading right away.
Last movie in theaters: It’s been a WHILE and I’m honestly blanking on what movie I saw with some family a few months back, but I would LIKE to go see Across The Spiderverse soon!
Last series: I recently finished Amphibia. Not bad! I think I liked the first season the best though.
Craving: Water (just spent like two hours cleaning my upstairs and I’m SO THIRSTY)
Tea or coffee: Tisane (herbal tea!)
Currently working on: Been organizing and cleaning my craft room FINALLY, and organizing stuff on the cool new shelf header thing I got for on top of my dresser!
Tagging: @doodlee-a @fainimen @taleweaver-ramblings @ionlywantyougone @o-lei-o-lai-o-lord @jenniferbrincho (If you wanna, no pressure! :D)

now I don’t know who needs to hear this but: no matter how depressed or sad you’re feeling, even if you don’t feel like you can do much to help yourself, some of the smallest steps you can take can help so much. be around your family or people that will love you. don’t isolate yourself. drink water. eat if you’re hungry. go outside and take a walk. don’t be afraid to be around people and don’t be afraid to smile or laugh. it really goes such a long way for your mentality

Old theory I never posted here:
So my kids were watching the Magic School Bus. It happened to be the Inside Ralphie episode, and I noticed something a bit odd. Anyone who's watched that show knows that Ms Frizzle always dressed to match her field trip. And at the beginning of the episode, she is dressed just how you would expect for a day that they would be studying how the human body fights infection... except she was dressed that way *before* she got the call that Ralphie was sick! Which means she had to have known in advance that he was sick.
It reminded me of one of the books I read where she goes on vacation to Egypt, and hijacks the tour after the tour guide mysteriously and suddenly contracts laryngitis. She then proceeds to take the entire plane of tourists back in time.
All this makes it look suspiciously like she can make people get sick. And that means that she most likely made Ralphie sick for the purpose of the field trip.

My husband just pointed out that when referring to Adrian's different personas, we shouldn't call him "civilian Adrian", we should call him "House Chat", and I have never heard anything so brilliant before. Petition to call him House Chat.

Ok Tumblr, I'm in a debate right now about The Sea Beast.
A bunch of people are saying that it doesn't make sense how the royalty of the kingdom is making money of of the hunting industry, but I thought it was kinda obvious how it worked? I think it's twofold.
First, they are clearing trade routes. That opens up the doors to more foreign trade. Some people are arguing"well that benefits other kingdoms too". Which is true, but doesn't prove that they aren't getting rich from it. 🙄 History people. Open trade routes leads to wealthier kingdoms and better lives for the common people.
Second, I think the next logical assumption is that they are making money off of the sea beast horns. Yes, they tell the hunters to bring them back as proof of their kills, but what really happens to them afterwards? You can't tell me all of them end up in their museum/private collection. Not given the number that the hunters brought back from a single voyage. Also, look at how many real world species have been hunted to extinction over horns, tusks, and pelts. Add that to the time period meaning that they had inferior medical knowledge as well as more superstition (which is also seen in the movie, so I'm not just guessing based on the time period), we have a recipe for those horns to be used for any number of things including medicine and magical totems.
So there we have it. An exclusive resource (we don't hear of any other kingdoms being built up by hunters, although I could be wrong there... but we do know that they have the *best* hunters, which means they still would have the best supply), and clear routes to trade that resource (among other things). That's how the kingdom got rich on the blood of sea beasts. Am I off my rocker? Maybe. I just took the unanswered question in the movie and applied what I know about the real world to it. It made sense to me.
Any other theories? Am I wrong?

All of the modern takes on Dracula really make me wish they would make a mostly true to book adaptation that is a horror comedy, with things like Dracula having sudden costume changes while pretending to be his own staff, trying to knock the crucifix off the wheel in order to steer the ship, and the people of Whitby chasing him around as a dog. Just all the collective hot takes on what's going on with this story that make us, the modern readers, laugh, presented in a glorious cinema quality film.

Hey, @taleweaver-ramblings this one’s for you.
Both of us (Melwa & Mellon, joint bloggers) just spent the last month speeding through the entirety of the City Between series as recommended. Below are some of our texts about it, BEWARE SPOILERS, if you haven’t yet gotten around to reading/finishing this series. Go do that and then come back, ‘kay?
We had access to the entire series on Scribd - Mellon mostly used the audiobook and enjoyed the Aussie accent of the reader, Melwa mostly used the ebooks so she could take screenshots. Mellon was ahead by about 1.5 books except for a small portion during #10. So that let Melwa yell without fear of spoilers.

Taleweaver Rereads Prydain: The Book of Three
I decided to reread the Chronicles of Prydain because earlier in the month they kept popping up on my radar, and I haven't read them in a while. And then I decided to post about it because I haven't done that in a while! I read these in 2015 or 2016, but haven't touched them since, so while I remember some bits, most of it's a blur. So. Let's go!
Chapters 1–9
I appreciate that the forward establishes that this is inspired by Welsh myth, not a retelling of Welsh myth. Important distinction there. I also appreciate that the forward acknowledges that it kinda did Arawn dirty, as the original Arawn was a pretty stand-up guy.
The opening of the book does two things very well: it establishes Taran's character/desires (young, not yet wise, desirous of heroism and glory to the point where he disregards the value of common things) and it appeals to kids who will 100% sympathize with wanting to learn to do something cool but instead having to do the very un-cool but more practical thing in the process of learning.
That said, I am kind of with Taran on one point: if you don't have horses, making horseshoes is kinda silly, and I feel like there must be more practical introductory projects that they could've gone with.
The difference between old fantasy and new fantasy: new fantasy, when introducing an oracular pig, would have a complex explanation for why this particular pig was magical and able to tell the future (and why she might not actually be a pig at all, but merely something pig-shaped). Old fantasy, such as this, keeps it simple: here's a pig. She can tell the future. Why? Doesn't matter. She just can.
On a related note, there's something to Dalben's "I could explain everything to you, but you'd just be more confused (because you don't have a proper knowledge base to understand), so I'm going to let you figure it out yourself and make your own conclusions" that I think is very good advice for both education and writing.
And there's something to his follow-up statement of "Of course, your conclusions will probably be wrong, but you'll be happier with them because they're yours" that I think tells us a lot about people and culture . . .
I'm pretty sure "Taran touches/messes with things he has no business touching/messing with" is the theme of this book, and I'd forgotten it started so early (with him getting burned by the Book of Three).
GWYDION. I love Gwydion, and I love his introduction. I don't know if Gwydion has Aragorn vibes or Aragorn has Gwydion vibes, but they are cut from the same cloth.
Gwydion is so exasperated with Taran from very early on (or that's how I read him), and I am so with him on that. I forgot how much of an eejit Book 1 Taran is. But Gwydion is also doing his best to be patient and look after the kid, despite the fact that Taran seems determined to get in as much trouble as possible, and this is why I love the man.
"But he's so . . . bald." "I wasn't aware that the length of a man's hair had anything to do with his heroism." I'm paraphrasing, but this exchange.
Also: "We have to find Hen Wen!" "That's the first sensible thing you've said all day." Agreed, Gwydion. Agreed.
(I should not be making this much fun of Taran. I know he's just a kid. But also, he makes it so easy.)
(And I think Eilonwy is also with me on that one, so.)
Eilonwy is a delight and Taran does not remotely deserve her at this point. She is doing her best, and her best is a sight better than pretty much anyone else currently on hand.
FFLEWDER FFLAM. My fourth-favorite literary bard!
“By all means! A Fflam to the rescue! Storm the castle! Carry it by assault! Batter down the gates!" "There's not much of it left to storm." "Oh? Very well, we shall do the best we can.”
This man I love him.
I will say, as much of an eejit as Taran is at this point, at least he knows how to apologize fairly well. Also, his "The bards would sing of us, but we'd be in no position to appreciate it" is great — it's showing a hint of the person he's going to become.
More to come tomorrow!

Pinching the tag game from @lady-merian. Thanks!
Last song: When I Care for You by JJ Heller
Last show: I don't really watch shoes, but The Chosen. That, I love.
Currently watching: Sewing vids from Bernadette Banner and Elin Abrahamsson
Currently reading:
The Sentinel Song by Brittany Fichter (St George and the Dragon retelling, but I don't know how yet)
The Green Ember by S. D. Smith on audio (this is for book club and I'm enjoying it)
The library has informed that I can borrow the Dune audiobook again, but this isn't the best time to pick it up again.
I try to always be reading a non fiction book.
I'm partway though Love Thy Body by Nancy Pearcey, but it got interrupted The Battle for English by David Crystal (fascinating linguistic history book).
I now have a growing suspicion that I never finished my philosophy overview book. I should pick it up sometime.
I'm going to take the time to tag a few people who I interact with but could certainly know better. @taleweaver-ramblings @fairytale-lights @fairytalearista
Ignore me if you've already been tagged. Steal this, if you want.

2022 Inklings Challenge Participants List
This is an ongoing list of writers who have expressed interest in participating in the 2022 Inklings Challenge. I will be updating this list until October 1st, 2022, at which date everyone on the list will be assigned to one of the three Challenge Teams.
I have erred on the side of including people, so if you’re on the list and you do not want to participate, let me know and I’ll remove you. And it’s very possible I’ve missed names in the shuffle, so if you’re not on the list and you do want to participate, let me know so I can add you.

8, 18, and 30 for the bookish ask, please!
Alright TaleWeaver!
8. A book you’ve always wanted to read but never got the chance?
Hmmmm. There’s one book that I’ve owned for a long time but I haven’t read it yet, and that’s Ready Player One.
18. Recommend a book to the person who sent you this ask.
Redwall books. Just, the whole series.
30. If you could have access to anybody’s bookshelf, dead or alive, which person would you pick?
Honestly the first person that comes to mind is the absolute legend, Christopher Lee. (rip man, you’re missed every day)

For the bookish ask game:
4, 30, 36, 43
#4: What was the last book you added to your TBR?
*checks TBR list* Ah! The Queen's Thief, by olwhatsername. At @taleweaver-ramblings suggestion, I might add.
#30: Who's your favorite author?
I am SO glad you asked!!! @kanerallels all the way. Ask her about her WIP, it's SUPER GOOD.
#36: Name a book you consider to be terribly overrated.
Ummmm.... I'm not sure. Game of Thrones if I can choose books I've never read. If not.... NO clue.
#43: Are you the kind of person who reads several books at once, or the kind of person who can only read one at a time?
Kinda both?? I can read multiple, but I prefer not to.
Thanks for the ask!!!

💖 — You asked me about The Silver Eye and The Lunar Chronicles, and I'd like to know the same from you! (Gonna get to your ask soon, no worries.)
TLC: (copy and pasted from SilverStars' ask, I don't feel like rephrasing) Ooh, that's a toughy. I LOVE Levana's characterization in Fairest, but I don't think she's my favorite. I really enjoy Wolflet as a ship, but I don't really like Wolf or Scarlet that much on their own. Cress is the most like me, which is probably why I find her a bit irritating. If I have to choose, I think I'll say Winter. I love the way her dialogue is written, and her kindness and gentleness even when people aren't nice is something to which I aspire.
TSE: I would have to say Avidan(dan), Ruya, or Delaney. They're all pretty much side characters, but I love them!! *insert awkward squeeze hug* Avidan is my sweet little trauma boi. Reading about him makes me sad, and that makes me happy. Ruya is beautiful and kind and brings out the good side in Noah. Delaney is bad, but in the Michael Jackson way, so basically cool. She's been through so much, but in the little we've seen of her, she's pretty fun!
Thanks for the ask, Taleweaver!
