[2022-09-19] teamLab Planets The rainy weather continued in Tokyo, but I still had a few hours left before I had to take the night bus back to Kobe. A friend who I've met during BitSummit was attending Tokyo Game Show as well, and as I was brainstorming on what kind of indoor activities are available in Tokyo, we ended up booking some tickets for teamLab Planets. Some of you may have already seen some of these artwork displays before, but basically the museum has 4 "body immersive" exhibition spaces and 2 peculiar gardens. When entering you put your shoes into a locker and curl up your jeans to above ankle height. This is because several artworks are basically image projections on a water surface. They often seem to interact with the guests through some sort of software algorithm, e.g. colourful fish exploding into flowers on contact. Therefore the artwork boasts that it is unique and never the same. How do you feel about this? My favourite room has to be the one with mirrors on all sides and chained LEDs which cycle through different patterns. Together with some soothing synthwave, it's truly a mesmerizing experience. Especially the one that looks like you're going through a warp drive. Another one I really liked is the exit on the aforementioned colourful fish room. Because of the mirrors together with dimmed lighting it looks as if there's an exit in the middle of nowhere, which is just mindblowing. After lying on the floor in a dome-shaped room where projections spin around the room which messes with your perception, the final rooms are the inside and outside garden. The inside garden has, you guessed it, more mirrors, but with flowers that have grown upside down. Pretty cool! The outside garden has... alien eggs? ...Pretty cool too, I guess (they're supposed to be acorns???). 🌸 shine bright like a Diamond 💎

This journey isn’t what it seems like at first. You may think that this trip is perfect picture but it truly wasn’t all that perfect. Although I planned this trip for 6 months since September 2022, during the trip I’ve had moments of anxiety, frustration, sadness, making mistakes, getting lost, all because things didn’t go as planned. Moments where I almost gave up for the day. But this trip really toughened me up in some ways. Travelling across 5 cities and dragging an extremely luggage ain’t easy. Getting lost many times and missing trains and other quick moments wasn’t easy. But either way, I’ve had the best moments as well on this trip and thus is the perfect trip because of the imperfections to it. Coming back to Japan after 10 years was so worth it because now I see how much of a Diamond I’ve become throughout the years. Although I have only one more full day, I will make sure this trip finishes with a grand finale. I’ll keep shining til the very end!
