#terfs are like 'feminism is when I say women are stupid and weak but in a trans exclusionary way'
Text
terfs celebrating that the international chess federation has banned trans women from competing in women's FIDE competitions, because it's sooooooo feminist to argue that women are so biologically inferior and nowhere near as smart as men and thus can't play chess on the same level. girl that's not feminism that's literally just misogyny

I'm sorry that the terfs made their way onto your blog but it does feel good to see you support trans people. Thank you for that
Always.
I think, charitably, that the discourse going down on that post is an extrapolation and over-focus on one element of the point I was making: that for me, determining with certainty that I was cis was a rather fraught process. I was presented with many alternatives, but underlying their imposition on me was the oddly regressive idea that the things I liked, the principles I valued, the parts of myself I was proud of were not permitted of women. My whole life I got smacked with the background radiation that I couldn't like being strong because women aren't allowed to be stronger than men. I couldn't like being loud and boistrous because women aren't allowed to take up space. I couldn't be a math geek because women aren't smart. It was all deeply regressive misogyny from day one, but I started getting hit with it slathered in a fresh coat of paint - all those assumptions still held to be true, but now there was the out that I could do all those things if I just wasn't a woman.
Concluding that the underlying bioessentialist premise was wrong was very important. Absolutely none of those statements were true, and were only ever maintained by cultural saturation, goalpost-readjustment when they were actively disproven, and the occasional bout of lying with statistics to pretend they weren't just Shit All The Way Down. The core premise that certain things were only permitted of or possible for men was bullshit, and I didn't need to surrender the gender I liked best in order to play in the spaces I wanted to. I could simply exist the way I was already existing. I didn't need anything else.
The misinterpretation is the assumption that this being true of me means this is everybody's relationship with gender. I turned out to be cis, so for me, feeling that holding onto my assigned gender wasn't allowed was distressing - just another invocation of the same bioessentialist bullshit I'd been dealing with since the preschool playground. This is because misgendering is fundamentally denying that a person has the right to express themself the way they want. When aimed at me, it says I'm not performing traditional femininity well enough to deserve my pronouns. The same disrespect is the root of misgendering when aimed at trans people. "Perform your gender to my satisfaction or I will confiscate it."
The problem is, bioessentialism is 100% ingrained into the terf playbook, which is why, for instance, all their shitty talking points about trans athletes eventually boil down to "no woman can ever defeat a man in any contest because we are simply naturally weak and stupid and there is nothing we can do about it" and quite frankly nothing disgusts me more than the defeatist acceptance of the very lie that feminism is dedicated to overcoming. Instead of accepting that the paradigm of bioessentialism is a false dichotomy right from the jump, they embrace and weaponize it against the people whose existence proves the dichotomy is a lie. If gender essentialism is fundamentally false, then it is nobody's fucking business what anybody does with their gender. If the lines don't exist, nobody needs to enforce them. And yet there the terfs go, hunting down people whose lives are none of their business and trying to argue that they represent some great and terrible evil, some downfall of society made flesh, something that makes it totally correct and normal for them to spend so much time thinking about strangers' genitalia. They want this to be a noble crusade so badly they won't even examine what flag they're flying.
I love and support the trans people in my life and will always, always stand on the side of your right to exist, but alongside that, terf rhetoric especially disgusts and infuriates me because it is, at its heart, utter cowardice. The world told them they were weak and stupid and inferior and they fucking believed it. And now they think Fighting The Good Fight For Women means turning around and using the same paradigmatic weapon that hurt them to hurt the people whose existence outside the binary proves the weapon is a lie. They're the same shithead schoolyard bullies who made me believe my entire existence was foundationally wrong for years of my life and I will never, ever side with them or the shitty, cowardly rhetoric that contributed to the loneliest years of my life.
Figure out who you are and do it on purpose. Find the real source of the misery in your life and try fighting that instead of the other crabs in the bucket. Trans rights.

1/2 I've been on this earth for more than 20 years, and in all my time knowing about TERFs and RADFEMs, I legit have never understood their point. I see what they're doing, I "get it" but I don't understand. For all their hatred of men, and GNC, trans, NB, aces, bis, gays, whatever, they also seem to hate women, and I don't understand. They don't like women, they think women are disgusting, stupid, helpless, worthless, weak, and the only good woman is a very specific idealised fantasy version of
Tumblr media
I've been on this earth a few days (eros split, they're fine afaik, it basically came out of nowhere, I'm thinking of zorua as a name), however my system used to argue with terfs and has been (very painfully) friends with a few, while anything I say just inherently oversimplifies because no group is a monolith, the ones we had success talking to in-depth is a selection bias itself, and putting complicated thought processes into words always does that, I'd probably say I'm egotistical enough to think I have a grasp on an overall trend. type 1: trans men who have trauma from men who were hetero, and they don't want to become hetero men, so the ideology that reassures them that they're not is an alluring way, simply put, of avoiding that. type 2: older women who just don't understand things or have the tech-savvy ability to research the words they've never heard, but another older woman they have respect and admiration for said terf talking points and showed a completely out of context twitter screenshot, and mean internet words aren't something they've ever seen before so it seems so uniquely cruel. type 3: grew up conservative and never let go of gendered stereptypes, but learnt baby's first feminism and now hates men and anything they perceive as male or masculine, by definitions that they can't admit to themself are rigid and totally informed by their upbringing. the first needs women to be some idealised inherent thing to protect themself, the second has not thought through or researched arguments against those things implied by the catchphrases and half-remembered discussions, meanwhile the third just genuinely believes those things and an attempt to get them to process that feels like a personal attack. generally, they're common types - a lot of people think of te/rfs simply as what happens when you do too much feminism, but it really isn't, and that's a belief they want you to have because the narrative that they're the real, pure feminists serves them. what actually separates te/rfs and sw/erfs from regular feminists is a massive dose of ignorance, fear, and hatred. of course, I'm only talking about genuine te/rfs here, there's also pseudo-te/rfs, the conservatives or na/zis or hate groups who adopt catchphrases, pretty often transparently lacking genuine belief once you know those beliefs (like when you hear somebody talk about a book in school, but they clearly read the wiki and didn't read it), because obviously their claims to be standing up for women are straight falsehood, rather than misinformed genuine belief that they are.

Question 1- Within feminism, often the concepts of first, second, third, etc. waves are used to distinguish different eras of the ideology. How do you understand these different eras, especially in respect to past vs modern feminism?
H: Sure absolutely so like in Saudi Arabia or you know countries where women can't vote and women can't leave their home like Doctor Rathour was saying, that's oppressive and it's just not the role I think they should play in society
R: Do you agree with modern feminism?
H: Not to be harsh but no I don't think so. I think we're equal enough today where you know women and women have high paying jobs and they can vote you know I think we're pretty equal nowadays like in a modern developed country like here, Great Britain, and Canada are the first that come to mind.
R: I think attaining legal equality was an important step for early feminists, however systems of inequality can exist outside of explicit legal permission. For example, gender-based violence within sorority and fraternity systems, medical bias against women, and judicial bias against men. It really depends how we’re defining ‘modern feminism’ though, because I don’t want to dismiss the broad issue of misconception about what that is.
2. Who all do you think make up the majority of feminists and why? Who makes up the minority and why?
R: Depends on context, self-proclaimed feminism on social media is often just blatant misandry, in part due to controversy being promoted by these platforms. But in academia (or even just the world of touching grass), people tend to engage in a lot more nuance and critical thought.
H: Yeah if they're actually academic it makes a big difference and obviously it started as like started as a women movement and now you have men in it as well and so sure like women are I think women are majority of feminists but I think nowadays like it's growing so that there's more men as feminists which is kind of cool.
3.  What do you make of countermovements to feminism or certain branches of it? i.e. anti-feminism, incel communities, manosphere & andrew tate types etc.
H: Uh-huh no, I think I think those are pretty stupid you ain't gotta hate on people that are trying to do something that's not going to hurt anyone I think it's pretty pointless to bash someone for trying to be equal. I think part of that comes from you know how you're saying like they're feminists on TikTok that are like you know men hating and you know men are bad this, that, and the other like that's kind of where the feminism bashing comes from like if they're gonna say all this bad stuff about men there's gonna be people that fight back. I feel like the extremes are just getting mad at each other.
R: It’s just pundits taking advantage of male loneliness, especially in teenage boys who may not have a healthier outlet for their emotions or know any better.
4. What is your opinion on the word feminism? Do you think it well represents what feminism is?
R: Sometimes egalitarianism can be more approachable, and less alienating. However I don’t think there’s any problems with the word feminism itself, it can just carry a lot more baggage depending on how someone was exposed to it.
H: Yeah I think it's kind of like like when I see like when I first saw the word feminism you know I think feminine I think woman I think like this is just like all just pro woman which like you were saying it was it's it can be on both sides like it's equality for all but it's upbringing of of women.
5. What do you think of movements that both pose as egalitarian or feminist-adjacent  but often act antagonistically towards these principles. For example, trans exclusionary radical feminists (TERFs) or men’s rights activists (MRAs). Alternatively, feel free to share general thoughts on feminism, its strengths and weaknesses as a philosophy vs. how its communicated in popular media, etc.
H: It's kind of weird that like you have these men's rights activists that should be doing something similar but then just also I feel like the extremes of the men's rights activists they're bashing you know they're antagonistic like you're saying.
R: Similar to the manosphere stuff, these groups prey on people’s alienation from feminism, but in this case the targets are people who are to some extent sympathetic to its ideals. From there, often members are radicalized beyond any notion of wanting equal rights. For example, an MRA might enter the group due to concerns about judicial bias against men, conscription, male loneliness, etc. which are all noble things to address and they are often downplayed in certain feminist spaces. But that may shift to more radical beliefs like sexual violence apologia or male supremacist beliefs.
6. Would you consider yourself a feminist?
R: Yeah, but the specific labels people gravitate to aren’t super important to me, and I’m more concerned about the philosophy of sex and gender equality itself. If calling myself an egalitarian made someone more amicable to feminist arguments, I’d go with that. But feminism is pretty neat.
H: I would say… I was thinking about it when was writing this question and I would say I'm not a modern feminist, but I would agree with ideals of past feminism. I don't agree with the more like toxic and extreme feminism like “women are always right and men suck” obviously because like I don’t know why I would say that because I'm a man but I agree with men and women are equal even though you know I think they have different roles in society but I think those roles are equal to each other.

feminism, patriarchy, and other words.
Definitions change, meanings manipulated.
What's the fucking point of saying you are a 'feminist' just to take a side?
Why the fuck would you blame 'the patriarchy' for your woes?
First off, those are English words- defined by English speakers in an anglophone world.
Feminism has included discrimination against coloured people. Women whose skin colour was darker than a certain shade were certainly NOT treated equally.
Feminism included the illustrious group known as "TERF". Because these pieces of shit do not feel that some humans deserve to get equal treatment as other humans, based on their uneducated, frankly ridiculously STUPID ideas on how the human body works.
Social science is NOT a science. It is merely a set of manipulated jargon made to suit the feelings and opinions of the failed academic wannabes who are still hoping to get a piece of that sweet grant money.
Fuck your social science. Fuck your divisive thinking.
The patriarchy exists because half of the human population supports it.
It's such a stupid idea, isn't it? That somehow MEN (oh evil men...) are to blame for all your problems?
Isn't that a hallmark of narcissistic thinking?
How different is blaming the Patriarchy from the Narcissists' Prayer?
If I did it, it's still your fault.
Well, that was easy. What a great scapegoat.
What a brilliant way to shun responsibility, and carry on with your oblivious selfish existence.
You can blame the patriarchy only if you admit that women are NOT equal, and do NOT deserve equal treatment.
The patriarchy can only truly be the cause of your problems if you admit that women are weak, frail, and small in the brain.
Only then does it make sense that men are to blame for your problems. Women are too weak, fragile, and dumber than a sack of doorknobs - how else could essentially HALF of the human population be subjugated by the other half?
And, by simple observation of the real world, we can see that obviously not all men are out beating the shit out women, making all the money, and taking all the cake.
So, does that mean that the female half of the population is SO FUCKING USELESS they can't even stand up against LESS THAN HALF of the rest of the humans?
Jeez. Women must be pretty fucking unequal to be that subjugated. They are weak, and unable to carry out independent actions, have no capacity for free will, and are fragile little flower petals that have no ability beyond being victim to the forces of nature.
Or, we could do some simple math, and realize that your stupid 'patriarchy' only exists with the help of both sides.
(Some assholes acknowledge this, and then promptly revert to the Narcissist's ... I mean Feminist Prayer, where everything is your fault, even when it seems like it's my fault, but reallly, you made me do it.)
If you want equal rights, then fucking take equal responsibility. Clean up your own shit, before trying to blame half of the human population for your self-made problems.
Women are NOT dumb, NOT fragile, and absolutely capable of raping, molesting, murdering, abusing other HUMAN BEINGS.
Fuck your blame game. Fuck the cowards hiding behind the nebulous veil of jargon and conveniently changing definitions.
Feminism hurts children. Hurt children go on to create a hurt society.
Feminism is a convenient excuse to shirk personal responsibility.
Feminism is great way to get views, be popular, make money, gather praise, and obscure all the ways that females continue to also commit crimes against humanity.
Stop saying you want equal rights while doubling-down on unequal privelege.
Stop the division and be human.

why are YouTube comments so fucking awful LMFAO it’s like some weird pit where all the worst scum sort of drizzle into??
like im just trying to look into outlast 2 lore and OF COURSE I come across shit like “um blaming sjws isn’t a trend it’s a reality they’re the reason games r being censored and why everything is so censored lately”
im?? Sorry?? where the fuck is this?? Where is this imaginative place where feminist women have so much power in the game industry that they have control of censorship over ENORMOUS MILLION DOLLAR CORPORATIONS like EA??? What games has Anita or “any radfem scum” (idk much about anita the comments just mentioned her but ik some things) had their Sticky PC Fingers in that they legally got games censored?? where WHERE are these secret hidden feminists that are up in the authorities positions??
holy FUCK people are so goddamn fucking stupid. i hate the extremists of both “sides” but fuck me sideways if “anties” and their counter culture aren’t part of the reason why real feminists r so mad
And I say real feminists because if ur feminism isn’t intersectional, you’re not a feminist. period. Terfs and twerfs and radfems aren’t feminist because the shit they say and support contradicts what real feminism is and does and is meant to do. these people hate generalizing but that is exactly what they do to feminists and then use that as justification for treating any and all feminists as the same (and ill tell you what it’s fucking disgusting knowing they put me on the same level as a terf)
GOD I guess I’m just so fucking sick of this “HURR DURR FUCK DA ES JAY DUBLEYEWS!!!!!” bc people are only EVER saying that shit when it!! is not!! relevant!!! and even if the subject IS on social justice stuff, throwing the SJW around is as if it’s a conversation Ender. Like if ur an sjw this convo isn’t valid/doesn’t matter!!
I’m so fucking sick of people throwing these words around and then they’re called Buzzwords, which when people think of buzzwords they think of it as a joke, not serious. Sj warriors might be a joke but social justice isn’t..? terfs are not lighthearted villains to woobify or a term to throw at someone who doesn’t want cishets in what little fucking spaces they have? terfs and their agenda is fucking EVIL and DANGEROUS and you bet your fucking ass I am JUDGING YOU if you try to put “aphobes” and terf on the same field. D o n ’ t.
and ik we’ve been able to make a joke out of it like w “what is this sjw bullshit…” but like im genuinely so tired LMFAO
I’m so tired of these people having no motherfucking goddamn clue what they’re really saying or talking about
like I had to read with my own two eyes that “STATISTICALLY men are raped far more than women, bet u didn’t know that little gem?” ???? what the fuck is wrong with you… this is not something to try and use as a GOTCHA! like can you fucking not? not only is that not true but they were taking these “statistics”“ out of context? these stats apply to the U.S. only if you include prison rape? which obviously is awful and evil but do u see how the context changes their comment? their statement isn’t true. It just isn’t and the stats were taken just to boost their own shit/use it as a GOTCHA! as if they actually give a fuck about men in prison or those who are raped (in OR out of prison)
Jesus fucking Christ I just don’t understand why I’m a pissy baby esjayw too sensitive crybaby femmy!! just because I give a FUCK about people who aren’t me?
why the fuck am I weak and "controlled by PC culture!!!” just because i want to fucking respect people??
“Hey u shouldn’t misgender them, it’s pretty easy to just–” “WHAT PC BULLSHIT SJW BULLSHIT WHINY BABY SHIT IS THIS? FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!”
holy fuck I hate that “argument” cuz u know they would also defend both nazis and neonazis had they been alive when the holocaust happened. it all started with SPEECH. are u seriously going to fucking sit there and defend hitler bc freedom of speech??
you have got to draw the line somewhere you fucking HAVE TO!!! this whole I’m Neutral I defend All sides Everyone is equal as is and we don’t need to change anything that is systematically in place bc that’s just a feminist conspiracy!!“
holy shit y'all can u tell I don’t have anyone to discuss this with lol…
