#that's not how you invite someone to play fútbol
Text
This morning I watched one of my dogs invite the other to play with a slow, deliberate swipe to the shoulder, and my second thought 'shoving shoulder to be friendly' is my new Jack headcanon, and then I remembered that Ted does shove Jack's shoulder, this is absolutely A Thing with Jack (and Ted as well), playful shoving to show affection!!!!
(my first thought was 'aww, you guys')

Hello My Name Is...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soledad Guevara and I’m from a small town in Selvadorada. You see, I never had much growing up. One parent being a teacher and the other a humble mailman, so yeah, simoleons were always hard to come by for me and my brother, but, here I am…out chasing dreams in Del Sol Valley. My plan? To become a star.
Tumblr media
And acting is my route to getting there. Sure, sure, it’s hard. Most actors never make it big, well, most actors never even make it medium. Most just stay where I’m at, bit parts, commercials, just names on a credit screen really…but I like to think that I’m different. You must have confidence in this field.
Tumblr media
Moving to a new town also means meeting new people. Nora being one of them. She’s a fellow actress and one who has even more confidence than me…or maybe it is better to call it arrogance? I’ll speak more on her later though.
Tumblr media
Another one is Lucho. We’ll learn more about him too but it should be noted that he’s incredibly attractive and kind of knows it? It sure doesn’t help that he’s seen as a prodigy in his line of work…umm, what do you call it? Soccer, fútbol, well, whatever you call it he’s pretty good at it and is likely going to be a big star himself, more on him in just a moment though…
Tumblr media
This story is about me, after all, I’m the main character, the protagonist, if you can believe that. I’m an aspiring actress with big dreams and a loving papá that, well, would do anything to see me succeed. Even if it means taking rather big risks that put me in danger…hey, love can make you do some odd things. My dad, Stefano Guevara, just wanted to keep a fatherly eye on me and warning me to be patient and let life come to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, sometimes, life comes at you fast…and what happens when you run into your new crush while working out at the gym and…AND…he invites you over to his place?
Tumblr media
Well, you go, and you umm…you enjoy the night you spent with him and worry if maybe you gave it up a little too soon…
Tumblr media
My papá did warn me and he called all that previous night I guess to check in on me. I never did tell him what I was up to that night, that’s not something you usually want to talk about with your parents after all. Either way, I tell him that I’m grown now and don’t need him hovering over me. He seems overly worried about something and at the time I couldn’t understand why.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Nora was advancing through her career at a super-fast rate. While I’m stuck doing commercials she claims she already has a spot on a TV show. At the time, it was a mystery as to how that happened, it could just be that she was super talented…or it could be something else.
Tumblr media
But you can only control what you can control and what I can control is…well, me! I focused on working hard and being flexible. Sure, I spent a lot of time doing Salty Suds commercials but it was something I was good at. Eventually, bigger opportunities would fall my way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did at least consider Nora a friend of sorts, well enough to invite her over to my place and tell her a bit about my romance life. Once she found out that I was kind of interested in seeing Lucho she revealed to me that he was dating someone else already…if only I knew that when I slept with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thankfully, it wasn’t all bad news. A new director in town by the name of Darius Monroe had invited me out to dinner at a fancy restaurant because he had seen me in a few of those Salty Suds commercials and thought I fit perfectly for his movie. He talked about casting me and also flirted just a pinch. I kept the conversation focused on business though, especially with what happened with Lucho.
Tumblr media
But still, something was going on, not just with my love life but…something else I couldn’t quite explain. I kept getting these odd calls and eventually, the caller said that they are coming for their simoleons…yeah, not what you want to hear usually, especially since my dad took out some loan in order to finance me moving out and I never knew where he got those simoleons from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being from Selva I know that I have to take such threats seriously. For those that do not know, Selva is going through a rough time right now, ruled and dominated by cartels, the main one being the Sedona Cartel…so of course every knock at my door, every sound made could get me to jump. Thankfully, this time, it was just dad. He finally revealed that he did get a loan from the cartel and he really didn’t think they were going to squeeze a poor man out of his simoleons. It was his hope that once I made it big, and he believed that was just a matter of time, that I’d be able to easily pay off the loan. Yeah…maybe this wasn’t the best idea of his, I agree.
Tumblr media
But, I still had a career to take care of and I was even doing new things! Like um, voidbop commercials! Yeah, not my first choice, but a check is a check.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Nora is getting movie roles. She’s shooting through the industry faster than I can keep up with and I’m not exactly sure why, not at the time at least. It makes me a little jealous because I’m sure I am better than her in nearly every way.
Tumblr media
But you know, my acting career was the least of my problems. That whole cartel thing with dad? Yeah, it was getting worse. A man by the name of Lorenzo who worked for the Sedona cartel made it very clear to my dad that he wanted his simoleons soon, like tomorrow soon, and if he doesn’t get them that he’s going to take me instead…y-yeah, I mean…yeah.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was still getting to know the city really and going out for a drink ran me into Lucho’s girlfriend or ex or I really wasn’t sure what was going on between them. I thought I was doing her a favor by telling her that Lucho had slept with me but she wasn’t very friendly. She told me I deserved Lucho and even called me scraggly. At least I learned that Lucho felt some kind of way about me, I wasn’t sure what it was, but at the time I believed that I was just a one night stand. I did hope on seeing him again. Steffi, his ex-girlfriend, revealed that Lucho had talked about me before.
Tumblr media
As for the movie role that I thought I could get, Darius called and tells me it is going to my ‘friend’ of sorts, Nora. Said it wasn’t his decision, came from the producer, over his head, and he was really sorry about it. When things go wrong, they really go wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because the cartel came to collect and it wasn’t simoleons they were interested in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it was Lucho who saved the day. He had previous run-ins with Lorenzo and offered a little more than what he was demanding and in return he simply wanted the man to leave me alone. It took some convincing, but, Lucho succeeded.
Tumblr media
I was mad at Lucho for ignoring me after our sudden intimate connection but I could only be thankful. He saved my life and I needed a shoulder to cry on. I don’t even want to imagine what Lorenzo had planned for me.
Tumblr media
But my relationship with Lucho was improving. He came over the very next day and explained to me why he hadn’t called me. It wasn’t the best excuse, to be honest, as he said that the life of a pro-athlete has gotten to him. He thought I was like other women that try to latch on to him and so was reluctant I guess.
Tumblr media
In the end, he knew I wasn’t like those other women because I work just as hard as he does. I don’t want to be his trophy wife like Steffi. I want to be a world famous actress and yes, that comes first before even romance. And so, I continued to work hard, doing commercials just to add to my resume and increase my fame.
Tumblr media
But I would run into a huge obstacle in my career. Mr. Frost. You see, Mr. Frost is a big time producer in this town and so he’s a man that wields a significant amount of power. Too much, I’d say. The point is when we first met he mentioned that the next time he sees me he’d like for me to dress down a little bit, you know. Wear a skirt, heels, that kind of thing…
Tumblr media
I then find out that Nora knows Mr. Frost pretty well, perhaps too well. Maybe, perhaps, possibly…her relationship with him was the reason she had no issues finding roles. She claims he doesn’t go too far and claims that it’s not too bad. I, of course, don’t like this entire situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A situation I did like was getting closer and closer to Lucho. On Love Day he took me out to an arcade for a humble date and while I wanted something more we both decided that it would be better to take it slow. Well, he wanted to more than me suddenly but it was a decision I agreed with.
Tumblr media
Which was probably a good idea considering that Steffi wasn’t exactly ready to concede this battle. Lucho was still seeing her.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, back in Selva, my brother was having relationship issues himself. Some woman named Maria nags at him constantly about the smallest of things and if you know my brother Paulo than you know he’s one that values his peace of mind more than anything. Ah, more on this relationship later.”
Tumblr media
Things were looking up in my career as I was able to get a role, a small guest appearance. I played the mom of a main character in a sort of flashback scene. So yeah, it wasn’t much, a few minutes of TV time, but it was better than any commercial I’ve done.
Tumblr media
And I thought that maybe I’ve made it, that maybe my dreams were closer than they appeared…only to learn that this city wasn’t what it seemed. Mr. Frost wanted to see me again and this time he had a big offer. Playing a super heroine in the Marble Cinematic Universe. This is a big deal as those actors get paid tons and if my character connects with fans I could get my own movie in the future…but the role wasn’t mine. Mr. Frost needed one more thing of me to give it to me, she said…and what he wanted was for me to show him my breasts. I told him no and he kicked me out of the office and declared my career over.
Tumblr media
And the immediate reaction to my unwillingness to expose myself? Denied roles with little explanation as to why.
Tumblr media
But there was at least happiness with Lucho. We took things a little slower, just a little, and we enjoyed the time we spent together. I was really warming up to the idea of having a serious relationship with Lucho.
Tumblr media
But the issue with Mr. Frost would not go away. I guess since I denied him it only made him desperate to wield his power on someone else and that someone else was Nora. This time, he asked the same of her, to take off her top and he’ll assure her a role in the Marble Cinematic Universe. He also asked for more, whatever that meant. He pushed a little too far with her and she left more than upset.
Tumblr media
Back in Selva Paula, my mom, talked with my brother’s girlfriend. They seemed to like each other on the surface but mom sort of understood that maybe she wasn’t the one for her son.
Tumblr media
But Paulo is determined to make it work. He tells mom that things are okay, that a compromise between him and Maria has been reached, and that things are just peachy between them.
Tumblr media
As for my relationship with Lucho, it was going very very well!

Best Friend’s Girl || Two
Tumblr media
Pairing: Best Friend!Harrison x Reader Summary: Secrets kept between best friends can’t stay a secret forever. Word Count: 1.2k+
Tumblr media
Even though Harrison was busy with some other minor acting and modeling jobs, the next few weeks the two of you were almost always together. Whether it was going to fútbol matches, going shopping, going to the movies, or just hanging out at each other’s apartments. While Tom was never the buffer between the two of you, alone time with Harrison was not as common as alone time with Tom had been. You had always felt like you knew Harrison like the back of your hand, but after spending more time together you were learning new things every day.
“There are NO Disney movies that I don’t like.” You exclaimed as Harrison dug through his extensive DVD collection looking for a movie you two could watch. You had both opted for staying in for the night since Tom’s younger brother Harry had invited the two of you out later that weekend. After a few minutes of searching, his eyes turned back to you and a giant grin formed across his lips. As he lifted the case and turned it towards you, you couldn’t help but sigh.
“The Fox and the Hound? Really? Are you trying to make me a weeping mess?” you asked, crossing your arms over your chest.
“You said that you loved every Disney movie!” he retorted, standing up and walking over to place the disc into the DVD player.
“I do! That doesn’t mean that some of them don’t reduce me to tears though.” You replied.
After closing the DVD player drawer, Harrison skipped back over to the couch and pulled the fuzzy blanket off of the arm and across his lap. You were pressed against the other arm, a pillow cushioning one side and your legs pulled up next to you on the other. Harrison shot you another bright smile as he lifted the remote to hit play. At the beginning of the movie you were both about half a couch cushion away from each other, but as the story built and it got to the part where the lady was about to drop Todd off out in the woods, you clung to Harrison’s arm, trying to stifle back the tears that were threatening to spill.
Every once in a while, you could feel Harrison’s eyes on you, but as the story reached its dramatic climax you couldn’t focus on anything but the sob that had formed in your chest. You buried your face into his shoulder and your whole body shook as you let the emotions take over. You knew that you were a tad bit dramatic when it came to sad movies, but you couldn’t help yourself. Harrison chuckled lightly, as he pulled his arm out of your grasp, but quickly placed it around your shoulders instead. Now with your face in his chest, you could feel the tears starting to lessen and looked up at him with a grateful smile.
“You knew what you were getting into when you put in that movie.” You teased, your eyes locking. There was a second of silence as Harrison smiled down at you.
“I don’t mind.” He reassured you as he reached down with his free hand to brush a strand of your hair out of your eyes. The smile was still on his lips but, for the first time, you couldn’t help but notice the jolt of electricity that went through you at the touch of his hand. You had also always admired how clear and beautiful his eyes were, but for some reason, today, the intensity of his stare was almost overwhelming. The movie was still playing in the background, but you could feel the mood of the room shift.
You and Harrison had been best friends for almost four years. You had sleepovers together, joint birthday parties, and were even teammates as you had both played on the community’s soccer team together. You had never hidden anything from each other and there was never a time where you didn’t feel like you could be yourself. Four years of friendship foundation had been laid. It only took thirty seconds for it to spin into something more.
With Harrison’s intense gaze on you, you could almost see the gears turning in his head. You knew the look on his face almost too well and it almost made you blush. You had seen it in the past when he would “double date” with a girl he liked. You had always imagined someone looking at you like that but didn’t expect it to be him doing it. Before you could fully work out what was about to happen, Harrison had leant down slightly and gently pressed his lips against yours. The electricity that you had thought you felt before when he fixed your hair was nothing to the lightning storm that was forming at this contact.
You wanted to revel in it, savor it for the sweet moment that it was. You had never quite experienced a feeling like this before, and while it hadn’t completely sunken in who was the one causing you to feel this way, you didn’t want it to end. However, the moment ended far too quickly as Harrison jerked back and looked down at you with wide eyes. The thoughtful expression on his face before was gone and you could tell that even though there seemed to have been some planning, he was still surprised at what he had just done.
“Haz…” You started, but he held up a finger to silence you. There were no actual words spoken, but you knew that the look in your eyes must have still been one of pleasure because he slowly leaned down and placed another small kiss on your lips. This one was just a peck, but you still shuddered from the feelings you got from the touch. The arm that was just around your shoulder dropped, and Harrison turned slightly as he looked down at his hands, guilt etched on his face.
“I’m sorry. I probably shouldn’t have done that.” He murmured, unable to look back up at you. There were a mix of conflicting feelings running through your mind, but you instinctively reached out and took his hand comfortingly. You hated seeing that sad look on his face.
“It was fine, Haz. Better than fine really. It was really good.” You rambled, trying to bring that sweet smile back to your best friend’s face. You didn’t want to admit the intense feelings you had felt when he kissed you, but you also didn’t want him to feel bad for doing it. He turned his head slightly so that he could look at you out of the corner of his eyes. He saw the small smile on your lips and nodded. The look of guilt slowly started to fade, but you could both tell that the moment was over.
“We should probably get back to the movie.”
You nodded and scooted yourself back to your corner of the couch. Harrison leaned back and ran a hand quickly through his hair before he shot you a small smile. You couldn’t fight the flutter in your chest, but for the remainder of the movie, both of your eyes remained on the tv screen.
This was only the beginning.

The Diary of Steven Gerrard: It Was the Best of Times, it Was the Blurst of Times Part 2
Following Steven Gerrard's shock appointment as first team manager of SPFL club Rangers, 90min have been given exclusive access to the Liverpool legend's diary entries throughout the 2018/19 season.* Below are the entries from August 2018.
*This is a parody
1st August 2018: So I seen I went viral last week. No biggie. It happens all of the time. That skill I pulled off in training was pretty spectacular though it must be said. The way I dummied a volleyed backheel before allowing the ball bounce off the defender and then perfectly into my path: simply glorious.
Sometimes, I even surprise myself.
3rd August 2018: It's just two days until my first ever league game as a professional football manager. I'm feeling good about it - the team is full of great characters and I'm a great manager - so I'm not worried about the game itself. What I am worried about, is how I will manoeuvre around the dugout.
I want to look casual and laid back, but also fiery and passionate because my fans love that side of me.
- Made James Tavernier captain
- Fixed a leaky defense
- Added steel to midfield
- Turned Alfredo Morelos into peak Fernando Torres
- Remained unbeaten through three rounds in Europe, two league games & a Scottish League Cup tie
Steven Gerrard has been in charge for 65 days. pic.twitter.com/fCUt3422aR

I've decided to practice in the living room today. I looked up the measurements of the dugout (on Wikipedia, which is a great website) and put masking tape on the floor to make my own dugout in the living room. It looks great.
There's a few moves I've been working on, they are:
- The point and 'have it!'
- The folded arm 'referee!'
- The smug smirk.
- The double fist pump.
- The single fist pump.
- The knee slide (reserved for last minute winners).
- The Dennis Taylor.
6th August 2018: I absolutely smashed it. Genuinely, I don't think I could've done a better job.
I was in my element out there. I pulled out so many moves I'd been practicing. The point and 'have it!' went done a treat with the fans inside the opening 15 minutes, and that positive reception gave me the confidence to whip out a folded arm 'referee!' and a single fist pump.
It feels great to get that first game out of the way. Now on to the next one!
8th August 2018: Another brilliant joke from me today.
Oviemuno Ejaria was playing brilliantly in training - he must've hit the back of the net at least 52 times - it was truly incredible. After he scored his 46th goal of the day, I said to him: 'Ossie! I'm going to have to learn how to say your name if you keep playing this well'. Everyone laughed. I'm funny.

— Fútbol Escocés gbsct (@BRITescoces) June 22, 2018
I'm very excited to go and watch my Liverpool play this weekend. We're playing West Ham at the Mecca, and I expect us to win at least 3-0. I think this is the year we finally do it. We have the best goalkeeper in the world (Alisson), the best midfielder in the world (Naby Keita) and the best footballer in the world (Mohamed Salah). Plus, we have a great net spend.
13th August 2018:  What. A. Win.
The boys were brilliant today. Honestly, I can't say enough good words about them; one of the best performances I've seen from any football team this century. I really mean that. They were immense.
It was great being back in Anfield and - as expected - I got a great reception (as per usual).
I think that my presence in the ground probably played a big part in the win actually.
Maybe I'm a good luck charm?
15th August 2018: I literally made Jason Holt, James Tavernier and Andre Halliday LOL in training today.
Alfredo Morelos was practicing penalties, and he couldn't hit the target to save his life. So after he missed one of the pens I said: 'Morelos buddy, the net is over there!' It was so funny. I'm funny.
I'm actually starting to think that I'm not just funny, but professionally funny; funny enough to do stand up. It's something I've always wanted to do, but football always came first. Now that I'm not at Liverpool though, it might be a good time to branch out and give it a go.
I'm going to try and write a few 'bits' (that's what comedians call jokes) over the next few days and maybe go to an open mic night next week.
17th August 2018: I've picked a comedy club that I want to perform in next week, it's called the Rotunda Comedy Club - It looks perfect. They do an open mic night every Thursday. I think I'm going to go next week; I don't have anything else on, so I might as well.
I've already written my set. I wrote it during training yesterday while the lads were playing 'next goal wins'. It took about four hours for someone to finally score, so I had a decent enough amount of time to do it. The goal that won the game was an absolute screamer from Flanno to be fair. I swear, that guy can fairly hit things.
My set is hilarious. I'm going to kill it. Here's a few of my best bits:
- What's black, white and red all over? The Liverpool Echo.
- A Scotsman, an Englishman and an Everton fan walk into a bar. The barman says: 'What is this, some sort of joke!' (This will kill).
- So I was walking down the street the other day when this Everton fan walked up to me and said: 'Excuse me mate, do you know where I can find the nearest fancy dress shop?' I replied: 'Yeah mate it's just over there'. And then I pointed at the Everton official shop across the street!
- How many Everton fans does it take to change a light bulb? 39,000. One to change the lightbulb and 38,999 to celebrate when they win a corner against Liverpool in the derby.
20th August 2018: Another game = another win, and another impressive performance from me on the touchline. I worked every inch of that dugout. I walked from one side to the other with: my hands in my pockets, my arms cross, and - most aptly - my hands outstretched like the messiah.
I. Was. Incredible.
Kilmarnock is a horrible place though, I really didn't enjoy being there. I'm thinking of asking the board if I can just go to the home games. Honestly, I don't see how that would be a problem.
You know - if anything - it might actually be a good thing for us financially. I'm an attraction at the end of the day, and if I'm around less, it'll seem like a bigger deal when I am around.
21st August 2018: I got a surprise call from Kenny Miller today. He asked if he could come back to the club in some capacity. I said that he can come back on one condition: if he tells me what he thinks of my comedy set.
So I invited him to Ibrox and did my set for him. He didn't laugh once. Not once. It was embarrassing.
I told him to never come anywhere near Ibrox stadium ever again, for he is no longer welcome.
24th August 2018: Last night was the big night. The night I was SUPPOSED to make my debut as a professional comedian.
I went to the club wearing a pair of Ray Bans (which I look great in) and a fake moustache. I disguised myself because I decided that it might be best if I am anonymous; just so that the laughs are all authentic and not just because I am the Steven Gerrard.
Before the show was about to start, I was feeling a bit nervous, and decided to go to the bar and get a pint. When I was standing at the bar waiting for my pint, I overheard two cretins talking about football beside me.
One asked the other who was the best Premier League midfielder of all time: Steven Gerrard (me), fat Frank or Paul Scholes. The guy said PAUL SCHOLES. And the guy who asked the question agreed with his answer!
I. Was. Livid.
How can anyone think anyone was ever better than me? It's ridiculous.
I did things that Paul Scholes and fat Frank could only dream of.
Did either of them score a bullet volley against Olympiakos at Anfield? No.
Did either of them score a bullet volley against West Ham United in the last minute of an FA Cup final in 2006? No.
Did either of them single handedly drag Liverpool back from the brink of defeat in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final against AC Milan in Istanbul, before going on to lift the trophy, you know, as the Reds' captain? NO. THEY DID NOT.
In a fit of rage, I turned around to them and screamed: "Paul Scholes had ginger hair and couldn't lace my bloody boots!" Then, I ran out the door.
Now that I think about it, a dingy little pathetic comedy club wasn't a good place for me to start my career as a professional comedian. I started my career as a professional footballer in front of 40,000 adoring fans in the home of world sport. Why should I start my comedy career in front of 25 people in a dark club? It simply doesn't add up. I need to stop underestimating myself.
27th August 2018: Yesterday was exactly what I needed to cheer me up after Thursday's debacle. Another win, and another beautiful performance from me on the touchline.
Next up for us is Celtic and Brendan Rodgers. I can't wait to get one over on that absolute weirdo.

I have this Headcanon...
I have this headcanon that after saving the universe from Zarkon, Lance invites all the paladins plus Allura and Coran to meet his familia. Now, Hunk already met them and is so comfortable there. Pidge bonds instantly with the parents cause they’re totally rad and smart. Allura makes comfortable conversation with Lance’s parents as well, and Shiro along side her. CORAN. OOOOOHHHHH I BET HE GETS ALONG SWIMMINGLY WITH LANCE’S ABUELA. I can imagine them being total goofballs while at the same time one upping everyone else because of their age in whatever game there might be. And drive everyone crazy!!
Keith’s another story.
So Keith is just socially awkward and sort of just stands there while everyone’s chatting it up. Then some of Lance’s younger sibs ask Keith if he wants to play fútbol and Keith is like: “what the quiznak is fútbol” and the kids are like: !!!! And so they take him to Lance and they’re like: “This bastard doesn’t know what fútbol is!” And so:
Lance: dude it’s soccer. Keith: wat. Lance: … Lance: Get this boy a bola right now.
But Lance can’t teach SOCCER to Keef cause he’s the black sheep in the familia and took up voleibol instead and is more of a beach dude.
SOOOOOO!!!!
Lance’s lil sibs from before teach Keith and that emo falls in LOVE. Like, this sport is his freaking soul. ((Idek lol))
So he decides to take up the sport as his own, and he freaking tames that pentagonal speckled bola and is basically AMMMMAZING.
So every game he plays, Lance’s familia roots for him on the sidelines and Shiro and Lance are just sorta grinning like idiots at how their friend is breaking out of his shell.
And when- WHEN Keith’s team wins, the McClain family goes INSANE. Keith Kogane is practically Lance’s new bro. And Lance’s mom teases about how Keith was born into the wrong family and cooes at him in Spanish a lot of the time and Lance gets super embarrassed cause his mom is gushing maternal love into his friend and fellow paladin.
SPEAKING OF PALADINS.
As said by the great words of Shiro, the universe doesn’t need Voltron anymore, so the castle lands on Earth and THE CROWD GOES WILLLLD- jk.
Nobody except the families of the paladins actually noticed they were gone, and Keith was already forgotten about, so thank Alfor he was able to become part of the McClain fam.
Pidge returns to her mumzie to realize that Matt was already on Earth WITH HER DAD, and they had been looking for her. Happy to be back together again, Katie Holt remains with her family, but she continues to work on brilliant projects to excel the human race in technology.
Hunk is reunited with his mom and older brother, and they both give the yellow paladin a stern talking to before giving him a huge hug. He, although incredibly happy to see his family again, wants to see Shay, so he leaves every week or so to visit her, and, you know, a courtship is in the making (゚∀゚).
Shiro stays with Allura and Coran, who shift from Earth to other worlds nearby, and Shiro brings back ‘that hunk of ice’ from Kerberos to give to the Holt family. They keep in touch.
Keith stays with the McClains, although he does want to search for his mom, and eventually, his bro Lance finally convinces him to do so, and the red paladin leaves Earth in search for his mother, the Galra traitor. He does find her, but not in the happy sort of way. She’s actually dead, and he discovers this on one of the Blade of Marmora bases when a soldier says that they knew his mom, and how she died on Earth in a battle against a Galra fleet threatening the planet. He talks fondly of her, and Keith feels so many emotions at once, like how he hates that she got herself killed, but proud to have such a brave and self-sacrificing mother. He thanks the soldier, and returns to Earth.
Now, on Earth, while Keith is away, Lance misses his friend dearly and confides his feelings in his older siblings. They all think that Keith will come back, even when he finds his mom. But Lance has his doubts. So when Keith does return, Lance is overcome with immense joy and hugs one of his now closest of friends. ((Hunk’s #1 tho))
Then the sad part where Lance asks about Keith’s mom and the lil emo boy responds with a shake of his head.
Lance feels awful, and comforts his bro in any way he can. No teasing, jokes in attempt to lighten any gloomy mood, just hanging out and talking.
The two boys bond well, and they’re practically inseparable.
I avoid all shipping amongst the Voltron team members due to having this story go however way someone would like to develop it. Have fun!

2/15/17: Gentrified
Gentrification is a word that has only recently crossed over from English to Spanish, exchanging the ending “t” for a “c”, adding an accent on the “o”, softening the “g” sound into a barely-heard “h”.
“Gentrificación”
Despite the delay in language adaptation, the phenomenon of gentrification has been going down in Buenos Aires for years now, including in Palermo where I currently live.
Another place where it’s extremely prominent is a neighborhood called La Boca, they same La Boca where I spent a whole afternoon with Nati and Henrik, the super-biker from Copenhagen that we interviewed, doing a bike tour of the area. On that tour, one thing Henrik made a point of showing us was all the beautiful murals that brighten up the walls of many streets throughout the barrio. They include everything from fútbol fanaticism to colorful hummingbirds to images of proletariat unity. And they are really nice.
What I didn’t know during that tour is that most of those murals were painted just 5 months ago, at a city-funded festival called ColorBA. At the festival, artists from around the city and the world were invited to create murals all around La Boca in a week of artistic frenzy.
Now to the casual tourist or art-lover, this might sound great; bringing art to a neighborhood will beautify it, raise property values, bring in more tourists, and just be all-around a nice idea, right? Well, that’s probably exactly what the city of Buenos Aires wants.
What they didn’t put in the ColorBA press releases is the idea that, by bringing in all these outside artists to stake their creative territory in La Boca, they were totally ignoring the neighborhood’s pre-existing artist communities. Additionally, raising property values is great for all the real-estate speculators who have been buying up old houses and building apartment buildings in the neighborhood, but it’s not so great for the locals who live there now, and who in large part are on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum. For them, it means suddenly they can’t pay the rent, and are forced out of their homes.
All of these insights and critiques were illustrated to me by a friend Sofia, who I met at the women’s march here. She’s from New Jersey, but has lived here in Buenos Aires for 3 years, including in La Boca for 1 year. She’s in grad school, trying to learn more about the interactions between art and social movements, and she’s seeing art play a role in social injustice firsthand in La Boca. She had offered to tell me more and take me around the neighborhood, so I spent the morning with her walking and talking.
To her, the whole scheme is easy to see through: the city began work on designating La Boca and part of the surrounding neighborhoods as the “Distrito de La Artes” in 2012. Their main plan has been to bring in artists by amping up artistic venues and access to studios. And providing sweet incentives, such as not paying income taxes for 10 YEARS. 10. Years.
In their messaging from the beginning, the city has talked about how this would help boost the tourist economy, leading Sofia to believe that, far from wanting to improve people’s lives in the neighborhood, this is all about the cash. Here’s a quote from a 2012 La Nacion article about the creation of the district:
“Creemos que con el crecimiento que generará este distrito en la zona de La Boca y San Telmo, el turismo puede llegar a quedarse un día más en Buenos Aires, con todo lo que económicamente eso implica", agregó el ministro de Desarrollo Económico porteño, Francisco Cabrera.”
If you don’t read Spanish, it says:
“We think that with the growth that this district will generate in La Boca and San Telmo, tourists could come to stay a whole extra day in Buenos Aires, with all of the economic implications that has,” said Buenos Aires’s minister of Economic Development, Francisco Cabrera.
So ColorBA turns out to be a pretty genius event: bring in a bunch of artists, probably pay them little to nothing (not sure, but based on what Sofia told me, it was cheap for the city), and come out with a neighborhood with amplified values and a whole new tourist attraction.
The hope in all this is that there are 2 community organizations fighting back against all this. One of them is called “Las Hormigas” (the ants), and they’re been spraypainting a stencil of an ant all over La Boca, a symbol of resistance that falls right into Sofia’s area of focus. She’s hoping to get in touch with them and learn more; I think I should do the same. Definitely something that feels like it could be a group of people who haven’t been heard that I could help provide a platform for.
Finding radical peeps who I vibe with and who will show me the alternative views of Buenos Aires has been easier than I expected. Maybe showing up at protests is an obvious way to meet the radicals, but for me, it’s the first time I’ve been in a new place and had to build my connections from scratch, and it’s going pretty well. I’m really grateful for people like Sofia who are so open to giving me their time and telling me what’s up, too. Some true revolutionary unity.
