★ JUST MY TYPE | LN4

Scenario: in which lando norris’ history with his new teammate leads people to believe they don’t like one another, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. (requested)

Pairing: lando norris x male!reader

A/N: we need more rep for male readers 🙌🏻 had so much fun making this one and as per usual, shout-out to @renarots for fueling this

Anyone who’s an up-to-date F1 fan knows all about this rivalry, but just in case you don’t, here’s a quick rundown.

It all started in their karting days. Every race they would go wheel to wheel, and often finish right behind the other. They pushed each other, both metaphorically and physically. In one race, a desperate attempt to overtake YN saw Lando Norris taking himself out of the race.

A few years later, the two would be promoted to Formula One, in which Lando signed to Mclaren, and Yn signed to Alpine - a mistake, if you ask me…or any other fan of his. That being said, it wasn’t Yn’s first choice. Mclaren was openly considering Lando Norris AND Yn Ln, but ultimately chose to sign Norris, with Daniel Ricciardo occupying the second seat. This only fed into their rivalry.

During their rookie year, they fought at the back of the pack as they learned the reigns of F1, but as Norris improved throughout the seasons, Yn was left behind. There’s a lot to unpack in regards to that, but in the simplest of terms, his team has constantly prioritized Pierre Gasly, their second driver, despite him being the inferior talent between the two. We’ve seen this happen with other teams, and that never ends well.

All of that leads to this shocking revelation: Yn Ln is joining the Mclaren Formula One Team. While we can’t say for sure how this will play out, we can speculate. Will they move past their differences and become the ultimate team? Or, will they become the next brocedes?

god, you missed things during brocedes era, but honestly, this is much better. this is two guys constantly fighting with themselves over the whole I Don’t Hate You Personally But I Want This Championship. it’s them wanting so badly to get along, to show the respect they have for each other, so long it doesn’t fuck up their own race, their own chance at the championship. it’s the constant need of separating business and friendship, of not dragging the race results and the crashes with them to their mutual friendship, but then it does.

this sport is a dangerous one, not even because of the risks, but because of the insane amount of adrenaline that races through one’s head when he races, and what of that adrenaline lingers when he is no longer racing.

this ship is a dangerous one, for that reason alone. they want to get close, lewis hugged max in zandvoort! they want to be happy for each other, they want to praise & compliment each other !!!!!!! but they also so, so desperately want to beat each other. and then the big question is, which do you deem more important? winning, or this relationship?

Usually as I find more and more unflattering lore about my blorbos it cures my obsession but for some reason w/ Nico it just makes me even more intrigued. i think it also helps with Nico that he's retired, beyond talking shit he doesn't actually pose a threat to your blorbo on the grid. Max is the world champion so he's everyone on the grid's pain in the ass rn. I think there's a lot of fair reasons to hate max, and then there's a lot of unfair reasons that's more popular narrative. how I got into Nico was I saw a bunch of people on twitter hating him and I was like lol who's This guy 😂🤣 let me learn more about him so I'm an Informed hater🤓 and then... well 🥴

why I enjoy max is cause

a) sick racer. seriously, generational talent. there's this idea that he's some super unsafe crash happy driver but that's really not true, and that narrative is from 2016 -- when he was a wee baby 17 year old. Imagine you're defined by how you were at 17 🫥 I would die. we are watching history in the making: and we'll be seeing him on the grid for many more years inshallah. sexy ass racing... and no it's not cause he's got the best car. i think just how much fun he had wheel to wheel racing with a broken car against Mick in France showed that. this dude just loves racing the way you and I will never love anything

b) he's just Some Guy.

there's a lot of narratives about how evil he is.... but my understanding of him is a dude who doesn't care to play along with the PR optics of a situation. He's blunt, he's honest -- it can be off putting to some, but I find it really refreshing. if you ask him if he's scared of Marc's straight line speed, he'll just say no. yes king give me nothing!! he is the ultimate what you're seeing is what you're getting. he's simply max :)

what I love about him is his innate self belief. he had a dad who projected all his failed ambitions on him, and the post linked by bella does a good job of explaining the parental abuse. I also speak about it here. fandom ofc cannot handle a topic that nuanced, which leads to the worst fucking takes of all time. max is not defined by his abuse, rather time and again he's shown how much so much more, so full of love. he was practically groomed to be a racer, but he's so much more than the weight of the expectations put on him since childhood. there's this interview of baby teen max asking if he thinks he'll be a better racer than his dad and he just says "I am." you need to have that kind of faith in yourself, and prove it!!!!!!!

his whole circle is friends from years back, his mom and his sister, and his gf/her kid. he's literally 24, rich, successful he can have or do anything he wants, and he just likes chilling with his family and playing the sim 🥺 a family dude through and through

beyond that, he's truly just Some Dude. he's got a dry sarcastic sense of humour, has mommy issues, likes to be in the arms of other stronger men, he comes across as a dude with a decent head on his shoulders. yes he bitches in the car and swears a lot and breaks his DRS button pressing it 50 times, and then goes to say he thinks he's pretty calm lolol I love unreliable narrators. it also says a lot that most of the grid likes him, Daniel, Fernando, Lando, Carlos, Charl, he's capable of being a normal dude off the track who isn't untouchable.

C) tits and thighs

before I got into f1, I saw this black and white video of max from Abu Dhabi celebrations, drunk as shit, in some dude's arms singing "we are the champions" I knew NOTHING about him beyond he just became the world champion of ??? something, and he seems so, so happy. and for me that's all it took. that's my golden shoe boy.

I think he's simply lovely :)

fundamental understanding? i dont know they are just. they have been racing together for like, over fifteen years. since they were both cocky kids with too much talent. and like. god i dont know. i find them like. okay so you know how i went insane and wrote 2k essay about how nico and seb are the same person in different font, and you know how the whole brocedes thing went down? i just think that with seb lewis like, he saw that you can have a healthy relationship. they both said something clicked in 2017, after seb hit lewis in baku. after he actually apologized and took responsibility for that. and i like to think lewis was like hm. okay. so this guy is ready to say im sorry. ready to admit fault. i dont know how not to appreciate this. and seb didnt win, i think that is also very important. seb didnt win in ferrari, and lewis kept winning, and im not sure how that impacted them, but i think it forced seb, the youngest world champion ever, to reasses whats important to him and realize all sorts of things about the power imbalances and discrimination in f1 and grow up a lot. and maybe he realized what it was like for lewis. character development, baby. so lewis is settled here, seb isnt. i dont know, i just think theyre like. soft. always in each others orbit. honest men? they are from the same generation and they are both smart and theyve both went through hardships and i just think they really understand each other. they have respect for each other, as men, as competition, on every level. and thats. thats just very appealing.

i may not be making much sense now either but like. this is all that brain can produce on the first coffee. <3
