What exactly is DNT: Seiran?
Every week I come across people still asking what Die Neue These: Seiran is. Films? Series? Is it the second season? So I think I’m going to write this so that I have a post to direct people every time the question arises when I’m talking to them.
First thing first: Seiran is the second season of Die Neue These.
Now, Seiran is being released differently in Japan and in other countries.
In Japan, Seiran comes as three approximately 2-hour long films. If you watch the films on cinemas, they look like your regular cinema film, with just one very long credit title at the end. Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199/2202 was released as films on cinemas too, and the films were later edited and released as 20-something-minute episodes in BDs/DVDs and on streaming platforms and TV.
The difference is, 2199/2202 films were released every 3-4 months, and the BD/DVD and the streaming version for every film (’chapter’) was released several months after the film opened in theatres. On the other hand, Die Neue These takes this route: the three Seiran films are released in three consecutive months (chapter 1 in September 2019, chapter 2 in October 2019, and chapter 3 in November 2019) in Japan. While for international audience, Seiran is being streamed as 25-minute episodes, one new episode released every week. The streaming started on exactly the same day the first Seiran film opened in theatres in Japan.
So while Japanese fans can binge-watching four-episode worth of material in one day, international fans can complete watching four episodes containing the same material in four weeks.
Since every Seiran film is divided into four 25-minute episodes, it means in the end we will have 12 episodes of Seiran. One whole season!
Seiran 1 = episodes 12-16
Seiran 2 = episodes 17-20
Seiran 3 = episodes 21-24
Until further notice, Die Neue These will continue being released this way.

Whenever I see the name Sawano Hiroyuki, I find myself getting excited. The guy's a genius. Guilty Crown, Kill la Kill, Nanatsu no Taizai, Owari no Seraph, Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, and of course Shingeki no Kyojin, a just a few of the anime he's composed for. You just randomly listen to any of his works, and you won't be disappointed. The guy also does vocal projects under the name SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]. And the above video is 'Tranquility'. It features Anly and it's really amazing. The lyrics are so deep and it really touches you. I actually came across this as it's used as the ending for The Legend of Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These - Seiran. (Sawano composes for this too). This post was actually supposed to be about that anime, but Sawano's brilliance outshined it.😁

Legend of the Galactic Heroes, due video introducono il cast della seconda stagione dell’anime
Il primo dei tre lungometraggi uscirà nei cinema giapponesi il 27 settembre.
Diffusi due video promozionali che introducono il cast di “Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu: Die Neue These - Seiran” (Legend of the Galactic Heroes: The New Thesis - Stellar War), l’attesa seconda parte del nuovo adattamento animato tratto dalla saga fantascientifica “Ginga Eyuu Densetsu” (Legend of the Galactic Heroes) firmata da Yoshiki Tanaka.

La serie proseguirà con una trilogia di film, dove ogni pellicola raggrupperà 4 episodi, andando a costituire di fatto la seconda stagione dell’anime. I lungometraggi approderanno nelle sale giapponesi, rispettivamente, il 27 settembre, il 25 ottobre e il 29 novembre di quest’anno. Airing Format
There will be a 12 episode TV series in April 2018 called The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Kaikō (translated as “The New Thesis: Starcrossed” by ANN and as “The New Thesis - Encounter” by MAL). The second “season” titled The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Seiran (translated as “The New Thesis: Stellar War” by ANN) will be shown in theaters as three different films of four “episodes” each in 2019.
