I’m always confused about the amount of shadowhunters there are
Bc I know there’s war and loss, but they have enough shadowhunters to run institutes
My question being:
How tf did Maryse and Robert’s exile include leading one of the biggest conclaves in America?!!
Like I get they had friends in the clave and got off light but how few options must they have had in order to place young Maryse and Robert (former circle members who just fought the clave) with little Alec as leaders of the New York Institute.
Clave is like to punish you for turning against your fellow shadowhunters you will banished from your homeland…to run the New York Institute and be in charge of the entire conclave there like 😭😭

are the lord bishops different than the cardinals from the pope story?
Hi, Nony! Good question!! 😊 (apologies for the delay)
Yes, the Lord bishops are different than the Cardinal bishops.
Tumblr media
Francis Benedict XVI, the Holy Pope, is Chief Pastor of the worldwide Cathlosim Church and Head of The State of King’s City in San Myshuno. The Vatisim Palace in the State of King's City is the official residence of the Pope of the Cathlosim Church.
Cardinals
The Cardinals are senior member of the clergy of the Cathlosim Church. Cardinals are created by the pope and typically hold the title for life. In 1886, Pope Flouris V limited the number of cardinals to 60: [3] five cardinal bishops, 40 cardinal priests, and 15 cardinal deacons.
The most solemn responsibility of the cardinals is to elect a new pope in a conclave, almost always from among themselves (with a few historical exceptions), when the Holy See is vacant. During the period between a pope's death or resignation and the election of his successor, the day-to-day governance of the Holy See is in the hands of the College of Cardinals.
Tumblr media
above photo from "pope" story here
Cardinal bishops
Cardinal bishops are the senior order of cardinals. For most of the second millennium there were five cardinal bishops, each presiding over one of the six suburbicarian sees around San Myshuno: Franklen, San Bebinbur, Port Simia, Milletosa, and Ilbutrid.
There are currently 3 Cardinal bishops. The Dean of the College of Cardinals, Abraham Criste, Cardinal Walter Tesmond and Cardinal Luke Nicholas. There is 1 Camerlengo, Benjamin Carmichael III.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine I, the Sovereign, is Head of the Church of Windenburg. Buckingsim Palace in Buckingsimshire, Windenburg is the official residence of the monarch.
Bishops
The Church of Windenburg has a legislative body, General Synod. The most senior bishop of the Church of Windenburg is the Archbishop of Calgary. The second most senior bishop is the Archbishop of York. The Bishops of Easton and Henford are ranked in the next two positions, and as the holders of those sees they automatically become ex-officio members of the House of Lords.
The process of appointing bishops is complex, due to historical reasons balancing hierarchy against democracy, and is handled by the Crown Nominations Committee which submits names to the Prime Minister (acting on behalf of the Crown) for consideration.
Of the 57 archbishops and bishops in the Church of Windenburg, 5 are permitted to sit in the House of Lords.
Tumblr media
Lord bishops
There are 5 bishops of the Church of Windenburg who sit in the House of Lords, which is the Second Chamber of the United Kingdom Parliament. Known as the Lord Bishops, they read prayers at the start of each daily meeting and play a full and active role in the life and work of the House.
Lord bishops sit as individual and independent Members of the House of Lords, similarly to the independent Crossbench Peers and those who are not party-affiliated.
Lord bishops provide an important independent voice and spiritual insight to the work of the House and, while they make no claims to direct representation, they seek to be a voice for all Sims of faith, not just Christians.
Thanks for the ask!! 💜

"well, their exile was supposed to be a punishment, so it had to suck at least a bit..."
Before we started talking about it I thought their punishment was kind of a joke because seriously, they get to run an Institute, a thing a lot of Shadowhunters dream of. (It still is a joke I mean, what the fuck, who's the one who came to this decision, was it the entire Clave?)
But yeah, they're sent to New York to run an Institute. An Institute whose heads they personally killed two years prior. An Institute leading the Conclave that probably hates them because A) they killed the Whitelaws and B) who knows how many of their friends and relatives died in the Uprising. Most of the Shadowhunters in the Conclave are probably not really willing to take their orders. They can count on no support from The Clave or Idris. The Inquisitor, who is supposed to be their advisor, is Imogen Herondale, the mother of their dead friend who blames them for his death and Céline's death and the death of her unborn grandchild and also loathes the Circle.
In addition, there's the Downworld, who's understandably both afraid and furious with them. The High Warlock of Brooklyn has a very personal beef with them. The largest vampire clan in New York is led by Camille Belcourt who is difficult at the best of times. The Seelies doubly so. We don't know who ran the New York pack, possibly Kito or Véronique whom we don't know anything about but I do not imagine them as very happy after the whole... incident that killed the Whitelaws, seeing as there were werewolves involved (and a child left blind, fuck you Valentine).
Add to it that they cannot leave unless is for official business, they live in the house of the people they murdered and wherever they go, there's someone more or less openly hostile. They're grappling with the recent loss, death of their friends, the betrayal of Valentine leaving them behind to "burn himself alive," and, quite likely, the burgeoning guilt of what they've done. They have to raise a child, ideally not at all like they were raised and they have no idea how to do that. They have another child on the way or already born. We don't know about their families but I imagine most would've cut contact with them.
New York would've been a right mess for years and, frankly, it's a miracle Robert/Maryse/Hodge didn't kill themselves - and I am willing to bet that it's largely because of the stigma Shadowhunters have about it too.
Back to the original point though: it is hysterical that the Clave has given them a mentally and emotionally tormenting punishment on what was, more than likely, a fucking accident.
who made that decision is something explained contradictory in the books. we know there was votes involved (as we know patrick and jia voted favorably for a lighter punishment) and that imogen was involved but wasn’t happy with how it turned out.
robert's parents died in the year of the uprising. we don't know how related to the uprising their death was, as i wish we knew. he certainly had feelings about that, but unfortunately we don't know anything about maryse's
i don't think it was necessarily an accident. for the punishment to be accepted, all the difficulty included would have to be considered, so the fact that they would have no allies in ny to conspire with would be taken in consideration. they were supposed to be uncomfortable there.
also, michael was considered to be alive. the punishment was deliberately forcing robert a continent away from his parabatai and having his bond forcefully weakened in the exile ritual. separating parabatai in any way is very frowned upon so of course this was something considered
about not commiting suicide, i don't think it's that surprising. well, suicide is not the answer people usually go for! that usually has to be caused by severe mental illness, and shadowhunters are not like mundanes,
thinking about robert's character, i wondered how suicidal thoughts that he used to have when he was 12-13 years old didn't persist, and i then something clicked when i realized why: at that time, his reality was of being a shadowhunter who wouldn’t/couldn't follow his purpose as a shadowhunter, and that was killing him inside. after he met michael, he found his purpose again, because he found out he could still train to be a shadowhunter with his best friend/parabatai at his side.
so for shadowhunters, their shadowhunter mission is connected to their will to live. something that can break that is extreme grief/heartbreak over their loved ones, as shadowhunters seem to feel very, very intensely about their dear ones (i have been thinking about this because i want to explore that in my fic!) but robert and maryse weren't at that stage: they were building their own family and as heads of the ny institute they still got the chance to follow their purpose as shadowhunters. we (mundanes) don't have anything of the sort. except maybe for very devoted believers of their religions (i don't mean violent fanatics, but actually people with extremely strong faith), something that in the real world many consider to be unhealthy and that can be broken via trauma or other means
i think the theme of shadowhunter purpose was more well present in tmi/tid/tfsa than in later books. it seems to be far more vague now, as we have the cohort who is a giant number of people who abandoned their duty of protecting mundanes
now, the same can't really be said about hodge. he was a prisioner, and couldn’t get outside to fight anything, but that never had been his way of doing things, he was more interested in research and knowledge and he had the job to use that being a tutor. i would say it was being unable to cherish any sort of relationship with people outside the institute that was the most harmful, as humans are not supposed to be lonely like that. but even people who live completely alone have will to survive

although the tsc books are a source of comfort for me since i’ve been 13, i’ve really been able to see the flaws in cc’s writing over the years.
one thing that i feel like she could have expanded on was how their education works. i know she mentioned how hodge taught the nyc kids geometry in coa, and in lady midnight the LA kids need to do “clave testing” to see if they are up to standard. however, i think it’s just odd that clave testing was never brought up in tmi. do jace, izzy, and clary even have homework? from my understanding, after hodge they didn’t even have a tutor, so how were they learning?
something else that bothered me was that new york is hub for people, so i would presume quite a few shadowhunters lived there. it’s just unrealistic to me that no shadowhunter other than the main characters seemed to be training/getting educated at the institute.
lastly, i know you’ve touched on this a bit but i just feel like it is so unrealistic that clary never ever struggled with abandoning her old, mundane life at school for the shadowhunter world. i feel like cc could have fleshed out her character so much more if she added clary’s thoughts about struggling with completely changing the direction of her life. there’s a brief mention in cohf where she’s like “how did i even get here. i thought my life would be normal, i’d go to art school,” and her only explanation to jace as to why she chose this new life is because it brought her the people she loves. as a 16 year old, clary should be able to have complex thoughts about how she has abandoned everything she knew. i feel like showing her struggle would have given cc the opportunity to expand on clary’s backstory and the people she was once close to (other than simon, jocelyn, and luke). maybe throw in a scene of her running into someone she knew at school? i don’t know. i feel like she did a much better job at showing this struggle in simon’s independent story.
bonus: i enjoy clace under the suspension of disbelief, however, what do they even have in common other than being into each other. clary likes art, manga, and anime. jace likes… weapons, books (what kind?), and classical music?? literally what do they talk about after the main conflict is over? jace literally seems to know nothing about mundane culture and i feel like that should be important when dating someone who grew up as a mundane. cc could have included scenes about jace feeling insecure that he didn’t fully understand clary’s world but i guess that would have portrayed their relationship as strained for an actual reason and not just because one of them is possessed
Admittedly there are great many things Clare could've expanded upon. They really have no real standards for education, no educational system to ensure that the Shadowhunters are reasonably educated to do their jobs and not just die. No failsafe to ensure the Shadowhunters are reasonably trained in order to upkeep the peace, the law, and slay demons. I guess part of the learning is field work, but why they are allowed to patrol on their own? Is there a training period where a tutor/a teacher accompanies the younger hunters? Hodge let Jace handle Clary on her own and he wasn't even what Shadowhunters consider adult.
It could be argued that the lack of Shadowhunters in New York, especially in the New York Institute, is because of their waining numbers and the fact that many in the city seem to live somewhere else other than the Institute that is habitated mainly by travelling Shadowhunters and the heads of the Institute (and their families). But New York is such a large city that even the Conclave being like dozen or so people seem unrealistic. What especially seems unrealistic, as you said, that there is no other young Shadowhunters getting their education, and the biggest reason I would attribute this to is the lack of world-building because City of Bones, in its infancy and thus excluding later additions and revision, didn't even do the bare minimun, nor is the educational system ever brought up or explained in later books either.
When it comes to Clary, her life seems to only begin when the story begins. Only things she recalls back on is Jocelyn, Luke, and Simon—the people that still remain in her life and unchanged. There is no random boys or girls she went to school or art classes with, nothing but the sole isolation that even to the extent that Jocelyn tried to protect Clary still seems incredibly unlikely. She never thinks back on her life and reminisce things she lost or had to leave behind when she enters the Shadow World. I agree Simon's character is better with this because he had other friends and "girlfriends" and a mundane family—all sort of a by-product of his existence so it would be weird if none of that was addresses. Clary's character was created to leave that mundane existence (or never having truly belonged to it to begin with) so Clare didn't bother to write Clary having any meaningful existence with the outside world similar to Simon.
Jace falls in love with Clary for no reason, and Clary falls in love with Jace because Jace is handsome. There is no substance ever to their relationship, and even though in QoAAD they play chess all unbothered and cool, it's so hollow. Jace (or any other Nephilim for the fact, as a baseline) knows things about mundane culture that Clare herself values—art, literature, poetry, and classical music. Hence the innumerable art references that serve nothing. It's weird to me that the relationship the Nephilim have developed to some aspects to the mundane culture is never really explained in depth because at the same time they refuse many other aspects of it, but have nothing of their own to substitute any of it.
I don't remember where or which character said that the Nephilim aren't artists and their society doesn't really courage to create art (though it doesn't really discourage it either since Clary, Jocelyn, Julian, Jace, or Jem are not looked down upon for their skills in art and music). There are many aspects so off and lacking and inconsistent in the Nephilim society, but it's really always coming down to how little Clare cared to create the world instead of using it as a fantastical backdrop to a hollow romance.

For those who may not be aware, Matt Mercer announced at New York Comic Con (2022) that the Chroma Conclave arc was so long, they couldn't get it into one season. You may also want to watch that NYCC Legend of Vox Machina panel before the new season starts if you haven't seen it before. There is also a fun video of the cast trying to sing along with the Season 3 Theme Song at NYCC 2022. Bottom line, Amazon greenlit a third season of The Legend of Vox Machina so they could complete the Chroma Conclave storyline. If they get enough new viewers, could there be a Season 4? We can only hope.
Tumblr media
If you love a party atmosphere, you can join your fellow Critters at a Cinemark Theater near you to watch the first three episodes of Season 2 together with theater popcorn, drinks and candy. You're also likely to engage in various Campaign theme songs while waiting for the event to start.
Happy 2023 Critters and may you have a magnificent Season 2 viewing! 🎉

There was an old world quality to Cleon, he thought and moved like a bronze age king. Coney Island's own Ramses or Hammurabi. He looked suitably tired as he sat across from Riff in the Warrior's base, an abandoned warehouse the Warriors had made their base.
He didn't feel like he'd slept well since the night of the conclave where the leader of one of the biggest gangs had been shot. Cleon had been beaten to a pulp by Cyrus' gang who mistakenly believed he had shot Cyrus. Ajax had his nose and spent the night in a cop car. Swan kept talking about leaving New York, having taken up with some mouthy little bitch he picked up in Tremont. If he left Rembandt would likely go too, the best tagger Cleon had. And The Fox was dead too. The Fox's death stung the most, he'd been the diplomat of the group, useful because ddiplomacy wasn't always a talent Cleon possessed. He like Ramses was a warrior.
He sighed. "So you're the reason Ajax has been sneaking off to the west side. Guess I should have worried more about him than Swan always wanting to go see Bernardo's boxing matches," He said. "To be honest I didn't think he had it in him to come out. If you're going to run with my crew there are some things I don't tolerate. I don' want to hear you giving anyone shit about who they are."

Well, well, well. I have finally made my appearance here for the "things Dances would never be caught writing" ask game!
1 - M/M-centric stuff. Pretty self explanatory - you are a woman, you love women, women are everything, femslash is everything. So while you might read specific M/M fics (and I'm flattered that my stuff is in that short list, for whatever reason), writing it is a huge no for you!
2 - Modern AU. Also pretty self explanatory - you're in the middle of Dragon Age brainrot... and that's not exactly "modern", is it? And moving into a modern world removes you from a major component. Mind you, modern AU can include magic/dragons... but it's modern.
3 - Crack fic. Ah yes, the not-serious, total joke, self-aware fic. It's the total polar opposite of your style - very serious with feels and imagery and all that good stuff I love, when reading your work! So the idea of going the total opposite is... definitely not something I see you doing.
There you have it - and if you decide to do the challenge, have fun!
ModAU/Reverse Isekai in which Renata gets put into the modern world during the explosion at the Conclave.
The city was almost beautiful at night.
What did the shems call it? New York? During the day it was but a jungle of tall, lifeless structures that were almost uniform in color.
But at night, it was a sea of lights both horizontal and vertical as far as the eye could see. The gray buildings became mirrors for the lights, turning them into behemoth shadows. Some even had lights that changed, forming pictures and unreadable glyphs for a few moments before it changed to something new.
Aravels constantly streamed down labyrinthine pathways with their twin-lamps on. The noise from them, from the city below, loud blaring war-horns and cries, and the thundering of something distant - it was if this place had a pulse. It was a being all of its own that refused to slumber.
It was nothing like the open fields and forests of the Free Marches, so full of life and color. The air here felt and smelled distinctly hot and acrid, and made her throat burn. The noise was constant, far from the pleasant thrum of wildlife and only served to keep her awake. And the lights - Maker, the lights never went out.
Renata slumped against the wall and slid down to the floor.
She hated it here.

Team –
I am pleased to announce that Rhiannon Ally has been named co-anchor of “World News Now” and “America This Morning.”
Rhiannon is an accomplished journalist with a wide variety of experience who first joined our ABC News team in December 2021 as a freelance correspondent for NewsOne and substitute anchor for our overnight programs. In those roles, she expertly covered high-profile stories, including the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell and the war in Ukraine.
Before joining our ABC team, Rhiannon co-anchored the primary weekday evening broadcasts, including the Emmy Award-winning 10 p.m. program, for KSHB-TV in Kansas City, Missouri. In that role, she anchored many breaking news events, as well as the Kansas City Royals’ World Series championship. Prior, Rhiannon was co-anchor at WFOR-TV in Miami, Florida, where she anchored coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing, Hurricane Sandy and the papal conclave when Pope Benedict retired. While at WFOR, Rhiannon, a mom of three, also created her own weekly series focusing on modern parenting.
Rhiannon also worked at WCBS in New York as a substitute news anchor and entertainment reporter, and co-hosted Meredith Broadcasting’s nationally syndicated lifestyle program “Better TV,” where she conducted one-on-one interviews with newsmakers that included Madonna, Denzel Washington and Gloria Steinem. She is also the author of the children’s book “Mommy, Please Don’t Go to Work!,” inspired by her children and mothers trying to balance it all.
In this new role, Rhiannon will work alongside our talented overnight team. I am extremely proud of this dedicated group whose work continues to shine as “ATM” dominates the competition in all demos, and “WNN” is consistently a strong performer in overnight.
Please join me in congratulating Rhiannon.

Govt plans AI law to protect news publishers, content creators
Tumblr media
The Indian government plans to bring in a new law on artificial intelligence to protect the rights of news publishers and content creators while looking to reduce user harm, the Economic Times has reported.
The new law will be “very balanced” as well as “strong on securing the rights and sharing the proceeds” among news publishers, content creators and AI-enabled technologies such as large language models (LLMs), “while keeping good space for innovation,” minister for electronics and information technology (MeitY) Ashwini Vaishnaw told the newspaper in an interview.
According to the minister, it could be an independent legislation, or a part of the Digital India Bill, which will replace the Information Technology Act, 2000. He said it was important to protect intellectual property as well as the financial and commercial interests of the industry.
“One thought is to form a self-regulatory body…But we don’t think that would be enough. We think that this regulation should be done by legislative method. We have already consulted the industry. After elections, we will launch a formal consultation process and move towards legislation.”
The remarks come amid growing concerns of news organizations, both in India and abroad, to protect the rights of news publishers in view of the increasing use of generative AI for content creation.
The New York Times is locked in a legal battle with Microsoft and Open AI over the alleged use of NYT's articles to train OpenAI's generative models and chatbots. Then in France, Google was fined by regulators for using news articles to train its AI model known as Gemini.
In India, in January, the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) demanded copyright protection rules against generative AI models. Reportedly, the body that represents the digital arms of leading media companies of the country has urged the MeitY and ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) to make changes in India’s platform-governing Information Technology Rules 2021. They have demanded fair compensation for the use of their news content to train AI models.
Elsewhere, while the US has yet not enacted any federal regulation to regulate AI, the European Parliament has adopted the AI Act that has strict guardrails for developers of high-risk AI systems. It mandates that AI models must be compliant with the EU copyright law and detailed summaries of the data used to train such models should be made available. The landmark legislation also requires content, the ET report said.
At the DNPA conclave in February this year, the minister of state for IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, had said the scraping of content by generative artificial intelligence (AI) was an important existential question. He stated that the legal battle between OpenAI and The New York Times would be a defining case on the rights of digital news platforms or of those creating content for public consumption. Minister of information & broadcasting Anurag Thakur has also addressed the concerns of the news publishers regarding loss of revenues to Big Tech companies.

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more …
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1933 – Karl Lagerfeld (d.2019) was a German fashion designer, artist, and photographer based in Paris. He was the head designer and creative director of the fashion house Chanel as well as the Italian house Fendi and his own eponymous fashion label. Over the decades, he collaborated on a variety of fashion and art-related projects. He was well recognized around the world for his trademark white hair, black sunglasses, and high starched collars.
In 1993, he caused U.S. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to walk out of his Milan Fashion Week runway show, when he employed strippers and adult-film star Moana Pozzi to model his black-and-white collection for Fendi.
There was much controversy from Lagerfeld's use of a verse from the Qur'an in his spring 1994 couture collection for Chanel, despite apologies from the designer and the fashion house. The controversy erupted after the 1994 couture show in Paris, when the Indonesian Muslim Scholars Council in Jakarta called for a boycott of Chanel and threatened to file formal protests with the government of Mr. Lagerfeld's homeland, Germany. The designer apologized, explaining that he had taken the design from a book about the Taj Mahal, thinking the words came from a love poem.
Lagerfeld was the target of a pieing by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in 2001 at a fashion premiere at Lincoln Center in New York City. However, the tofu pies hurled by animal rights activists in protest of his use of fur within his collections went astray, instead hitting Calvin Klein. A PETA spokesperson described the hit on Klein as "friendly fire," calling Klein, who doesn't use fur, "a great friend to the animals" and Lagerfeld a "designer dinosaur," who continues to use fur in his collections.
Lagerfeld had a long-term relationship from the early 1970s with socialite Jacques de Bascher until his death in 1989.

1487 – Julius III (d.1555), pope from 1550 to 1555, created one of the most notorious homosexual scandals in the history of the papacy. He was the protégé of Julius II (pope from 1503 to 1513), himself a "sodomite covered with shameful ulcers," according to the schismatic Council of Pisa convened by his enemies, the Holy Roman Emperor and the French king, in 1511.
Julius III was born Giovanni Maria Ciocchi del Monte in 1487. He studied law in Perugia and Bologna before taking religious orders. After holding numerous offices in the Papal States, he was made a cardinal in 1536. A skilled expert in canon law, del Monte served as governor of Rome. As cardinal-bishop of Palestrina, he was one of the three co-presidents who opened the celebrated Counter Reformation Council of Trent in 1545. He achieved the papacy five years later only because the respective candidates of France and the emperor were hopelessly deadlocked in one of the longest conclaves in papal history. Far from being a man of the Counter Reformation, however, Julius fit the earlier pattern of a pleasure-loving Renaissance pope fond of banquets, theater, and hunting. He did, however, effect some minor reforms, and he backed the newly formed Society of Jesus in its missions to India, China, and Japan. More notably, he supported Michelangelo as architect of St. Peter's and discovered the genius of Palestrina, whom he put in charge of the papal choir. Nevertheless, his leadership of the church was largely frustrated when political difficulties with Charles V caused him to suspend the Council of Trent indefinitely.
Julius III caused a major scandal by becoming infatuated with a fifteen-year-old beggar boy named Innocenzo whom he first saw fighting off an attack by a pet ape in 1548. He appointed this unprepossessing, rude, ill-mannered street urchin to the post of cathedral provost, which won him the soubriquet, il provestino. Two years later, in 1550, when Julius became pope, he had his brother adopt Innocenzo, and over the vehement protests from other church leaders he not only named him a cardinal but gave him a responsible administrative position as his "chief diplomatic and political agent," a task for which he was entirely incompetent.
Roman satire called the ill-favored boy Julius's "Ganymede," and the Venetian ambassador reported that Innocenzo shared the pope's bedroom and bed. As may be imagined, Protestant partisans seized on this succulent scandal, which became a staple of anti-papal polemics for over a century. It was said that Julius, awaiting Innocenzo's arrival in Rome to receive his cardinal's hat, showed the impatience of a lover awaiting a mistress and that he boasted of the boy's prowess in bed. No doubt such tales gained color in the telling.
A recent biography has argued that the relation was not sexual, but the outrageous extravagance of Julius's dotage suggests otherwise: Julius bestowed benefices on Innocenzo that gave him one of the highest incomes in Europe—beyond even that of the Medicis. After Julius's death in 1555, Innocenzo's status as a prince of the church was an extreme embarrassment to succeeding popes, who tried to curb the "voluptuous and indecent" lifestyle of the "Cardinal-Monkey." His murder of two servants—a father and the son who tried to defend him—led to his being imprisoned for several years in various monasteries. He was also tried for the rape of two woman "of low estate," but on this charge he escaped punishment. He died in 1577, aged 46.
The bodies of both Julius III and Innocenzo repose in the del Monte chapel in the church of San Pietro in Montorio, Rome.

1997 – The U.S. Senate thrashes GLBT civil rights twice in one day, passing the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act” (DOMA) denying to LGB and many T Americans the right to federally recognized marriages to those they love; and relieving states of the obligation to recognize marriages of same-sex couples performed in other states. The Senate also defeated the “Employment Non-Discrimination Act” which would have barred job discrimination based on sexual orientation.

I don’t object to an American author writing a book for Americans that centers on America.
What I do object to is when, in an Urban Fantasy-type story, very conveniently, everything is happening in America, and I mean eveything. The King of all vampires is in New York, the grand conclave of witches meets in Chicago, the magical portal chamber that connects to other realms, despite having a Romanesque style and a history going back to the middle ages... is somehow underneath a post office in Portland.
Etc.
Like, there are ways to explain it - maybe the King of vampires is in new York because he fled Vampire hunters in Europe, or consciously picked New York because he likes the city or... whatever. Maybe magical portal chamber wasn’t always there, and movies, or it has access points all over the world, or...
something.
But most of the time they don’t even bother to explain that much. And when they do, it can definitely sometimes be done with all sorts of unfortunate implications. Which... are not great.
But like... it doesn’t have to be this way. Even if you don’t want to take the characters out of the US, maybe the vampire big bad in New York isn’t actually the lord and master of all vampires worldwide? Maybe just the ones in the US? Or maybe the reason the magical artifact from the middle ages is buried in the US is because some collector had it and buried it with him when he died in 1887? Just... try?
