Do you ever notice how wildly different DC villians’ motivations are? They’re either serious, angsty, and completely understandable, or almost hilariously deranged. Case in point: Slade “you killed my son and now you must pay” Wilson and Lex “there’s a reason it’s called a custody battle” Luthor.

Also, how justifiable their actions as villians are doesn’t correlate with how justifiable their motives are. I could totally understand wanting revenge for the death of a son, but Slade runs around murdering and raping teenagers which is obviously not it. And even though Lex has enormous beef with Superman, he’s pretty civil with other heroes and is a good leader on team-ups. He’s a chill guy when his toxic breakup isn’t involved.
