🎃👻Trick or treat! 👻🎃 A moodboard (or a description) if you like for Katniss and Peeta's favorite cozy outfits for the autumn!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay this was soooo fun to look for. Heres some pics i found in Pinterest.
I think Peeta would dress like an 80s sitcom character in the fall. Think Uncle Jesse in Full House. Then of course we have Katniss with her practical but cozy fits including her dad's jacket. Though I do think she'd steal Peeta's big sweaters.

Trick or Treat!!!
Prompt: Katniss and Peeta trying to have their first Halloween post-rebellion.
(Could be moodboars, drabble, headcanons, etc..) 🧡🖤🧡
I don't think Panem (or at least D12) have Halloween, but I have a little something for Everlark in their first autumn post-rebellion.
First, some music for ya:
Our bedroom has gotten colder these past few weeks, but we don't shut the window. Peeta emanates enough heat to keep us warm under our blankets. When my nose gets cold, I bury my head into his neck and warm up right against his skin.
This morning, my nose buried between his neck and our pillow, I'm between the place of a rare pleasant dream and the grounded reality of Peeta's arms around me. And something in me is so grateful for him, I give him a kiss on his collarbone.
He stirs under me and asks in his deep, groggy morning voice, "Katniss?"
I hadn't thought of him feeling the kiss and I wonder if I should be self-conscious of what I just did. We've been sharing a bed since the start of summer, but we hadn't kissed one another yet. A lot holding each other, hands wiping away tears, but nothing to give way to what we had been that night on the beach.
I pull back and hope not to talk about it. Even hope that maybe he'll question if it was his own pleasant dream.
"I have a surprise for you," I say. "But you have to get up and get dressed."
"What's the surprise?" he asks.
"That's not how surprises work," I say as I pull back the covers and sit up. "Get dressed. Sturdy shoes and warm."
He doesn't ask any more questions as he goes to the closet to pick out his clothes while I go to the bathroom to change into mine. From there, I go to the kitchen and prepare two thermoses of hot tea, one with a spoonful of sugar and one unsweetened. I'd prepared both of our bags the night before and give Peeta his.
Outside, our hands automatically find one another as we walk in the dark autumn morning. The rest of the district continues to sleep, the skeletons of buildings in the middle of their construction waiting for the workers to return.
We walk past the Seam, past the meadow, and past the apple trees we'd spent last week gathering to make apple fritters. The palest sunbeams filter through the forest's trees, dark pines and autumnal oak.
Peeta's grip tightens. "You're bringing me in here?"
"It's safe," I say. "I'll make sure you stay safe."
"It's not that," he says. "I guess I've always thought of this as your place. Yours and...his."
"It's anyone's who wants it to be theirs now," I say. "And I want to show it to you."
He acquiesces and follows me into the forest. I keep an eye on him. Even without a fence or Peacekeepers enforcing the perimeter, few people have braved the woods. Yet Peeta takes it all in with round, awed eyes. Sometimes I can sense he wants to stop and pause, but I keep us moving until we reach the rock ledge looking out to the crests of mountains and the spine of the valley below. The sun has illuminated the land with morning honey light, filtering through a distant mist. It is a dappled mixture of deep green pine trees, yellow-leaved birches, orange-leaved oaks.
I've seen it every fall for years, so instead I take in Peeta's face as he faces a scenery entirely new to him. Yesterday he'd been admiring a single leaf from the oak tree at the entrance of Victors Village and I knew then he had to see this place of unimaginable, untouched beauty, blooming with the season's colors. And he doesn't disappoint. A long puff of a cloud emerges from his lips parted in wonder and the corners of his mouth peak up.
"This is beautiful," he says.
"I put your travelling paints in your backpack," I say. "In case you want to paint it."
"I most definitely do."
I get out the food I'd packed in my bag while Peeta prepares his watercolors and paper and gets to working. I've divided up the breakfast of raisin bread, candied pecans, and apples onto two plates but I've finished all of mine before Peeta looks up from his colors to nibble on his own. I sip my tea and simply watch the sun rise over the ridges and Peeta's hands dabble color onto his paper.
When he's finished he sets it aside to dry a little as he finishes his breakfast and sits back.
"I'd seen these colors on the mountains around us, but I could never imagine what it'd be like to look down on them," Peeta says.
"There's still a lot of beauty for us to see," I say.
"I don't know what I could possibly show you," he says.
I think of what I can't put into words. Hope. Light. Warmth. The beauty Peeta gives me every day is so much more precious than this view, even if it's all I have to offer him in return.
Instead, I lean forward and kiss him on the cheek so he knows this isn't a dream.

Trick or treat! Dealer's choice or a prompt: Finnick and Annie at a haunted house.
Tumblr media
Hi, thank you! I hope you enjoy the story <3
Annie pulls her coat tighter around her body and wonders, for perhaps the fourth time, why she came here.
Well, she knows why she's here. It's for the same reason Finnick is. It's because Finnick's friend Peeta had won free tickets to a haunted house but would be out of town this weekend. When he offered them to Finnick, he accepted. Like any reasonable person who likes free stuff.
So, reasonable decision-making all around.
What's less reasonable, in her opinion, is people's infatuation with haunted houses. Annie doesn't quite see the point. Who wants to be scared? But, if for some reason you do, why not do it with a scary movie from the comfort of your couch?
She and Finnick inch closer to the front of the line. Finnick's hand reaches for hers, warming her chilled fingers. "I've never been to a haunted house," he muses quietly, eyes traveling over the decrepit house they're about to enter.
"You haven't?" Annie asks, finding this hard to believe. "You never liked the adrenaline rush?"
He laughs. "I got enough adrenaline from all the cliff diving I did. Although that didn't involve monster or fog machines, so maybe I was missing out."
"I doubt it." It slips out before Annie can stop it, but she finds that she doesn't really care.
"You're not a fan of haunted houses, either?" he asks, the dry leaves crunching under his boots. Wordlessly, she shrugs. "Then what are we even doing here?"
Suddenly, he's stepping out of the line, still holding her hand. "Finnick!" Annie llaughs, caught between relief and shock. "What about the tickets?"
"Who cares? Just because we have them doesn't mean we have to use them. We have free will."
Sometimes, Finnick helps her remember what she forgets, caught up in her stress and responsibilities. That she doesn't just have to go along with things, and that she can be spontaneous. It's something she knows on a logical level, but it's nice to be reminded.
Annie's still laughing softly when they make it back to the sidewalk. "What now?"
Finnick gives a hum of consideration. "Well, we should probably figure out what to do with these tickets."
"Maybe Johanna will want them," she suggests. Her muscles tremble a bit in the crisp air, colder without the anxiety to warm them.
He nods, then pulls out his phone. "Johanna?" he asks once she picks up. "You like being pointlessly scared, right?"
Annie can already envision Johanna's incredulous eye roll.
Johanna must have agreed because Finnick is grinning when he looks back over at her. "Now that that's taken care of, we have some free time. I know a great coffee shop about a block from here."
"Okay," Annie agrees, because she wants something warm to drink. Mainly, she wants to prolong this night.
Finnick is still holding her hand. He adjusts his grip, and they start off down the sidewalk.

🎃👻Trick or treat! 👻🎃 What are Katniss or Peeta's favorite films to watch at this time of year?
Eek, sorry for the delay in answering my door! Welcome and here's lots of candy for you: 🍬🍫🍭🍬🍫🍭
So I don't have the best answer, because I don't really like scary movies and am terrified of horror movies (I watched children of the corn at a sleepover in 8th grade and was scared for like 2 months after lol) and so I feel like I'm projecting on Katniss and Peeta that they wouldn't like them either. So I'll say they watch some less scary seasonal movies, maybe witch ones like Hocus Pocus or Practical Magic and end up making out the whole time 😂 And maybe once in a while they attempt to watch a classic like The Shining, Rosemary's Baby or The Exorcist right around Halloween and Katniss snuggles in Peeta's lap and if either of them gets too scared they turn it off and make out instead. 🎃

You open the door. I stand there, looking normal, on a lime scooter, immediately explaining how I’m the kid from the back to the future movies and this is my hoverboard. I say: Trick or Treat!
What kind of fall traditions do Katniss and Peeta do? What kind of things do you reckon they do with the kids?
And as for a request: If you want to, a moodboard for Katniss and her fall aesthetic? Or a line from a current WIP!
OMG love ur intro lol - for a moment there I thought u were giving me the treat 😅. This is such a fun question too!
So I think a tradition that Katniss and Peeta would start as a couple would be harvesting their garden together, making elaborate meals with some of their produce, and inviting Haymitch to dinner. On cold stormy nights, they might share some mulled wine by the fireplace snacking on apple-cinamon-flavoured treats made by Peeta. Peeta would also love using the changing leaves for his art -either as a muse or to make short-lived collages for his love. (and of course, peeta gifting these to katniss makes her very flustered which he finds adorable). So, in return, when Katniss is hunting she looks out for leaves that she finds especially pretty to bring back and show him. (which in turn, shocks and flatters peeta to know end). Katniss, as she gets older, and more comfortable in the community and her hunting skills again also makes it a personal goal to track and bring down something big so that the whole district can have some meat to share in the colder darker evenings.
As for things they do as a family, I think K&P would just include the toast-babies in the traditions they already have. Like Katniss will take the kids to the woods to harvest some apples and then Peeta will use those apples to bake a cake or pie with the kiddies. I think the children would also love to play in the piles of leaves (swearing that it's their process of finding pretty-looking ones) and I think Peeta would also find fun art projects to do with them like pressing the leaves. Pumpkin soup would also be a must-have for the family.
I've never attempted making a mood board so it's not really my forte, however, I will treat you with a sentence (really a few, because I can't help myself) from my WIP: The Unlikely Coming of Age of Katniss Everdeen. (subject to change)
~~ "Katniss, stop," Prim says, interrupting me mid-sentence, "Just stop for a moment and consider that maybe, just maybe, he likes you and wanted to talk to you? And that's it. It's not any deeper than that and it doesn't have to be."
Huh. To be fair, I hadn't actually considered that; mainly because it's a ludicrous idea, if a nice one. ~~
Happy Halloween and thanks for the ask, friend :)

I'm dressed as Buttercup (like one of those adult sleep onesies with scroungey cat ears and faux fur paw gloves) and come meowing “Meow meow Meooow!!” (Trick or Treat!)
How does Tigris celebrate Halloween? Does she decorate the whole apartment? Sew new costumes? Hopefully the grandmam doesn’t forbid it!! 😯
(Feel free to elaborate however you choose with moodboards or drabbles or just meta. 🧡🖤🧡)
a little something for your thoughts ~
Halloween had been the smell of roasting pumpkin seeds in the oven, and the warming broth cradled in their hands. Yet, Tigris’ spirits soared to their annual peak when the costume orders arrived.
Throughout the year, her hands had become attuned with the subdued palettes of blues, greys, and browns. What had held the Capitol back came to life once Halloween neared. Clients requested costumes in vibrant hues and daring fabrics; seemingly escaping the shackles of their post-war existence. And Tigris, too, lost herself in the festivity of it all, sewing together the latest fashion trends and mending beloved pieces. The year the first stray showed up on their doorstep, she had discovered a new purpose for the leftover fabrics. Not that their new guests had expected to wear whimsical pumpkin hats.
The mood had significantly shifted when Tigris finally convinced the Grandma’am that they could part with some of the remaining emergency candles.
Ever since, Halloween had become a cosy affair illuminated by the candlelight’s flicker.
When Tigris had afforded her own shop, Halloween became the stormy days that hung low against the windows. Small electric lights had replaced any candles, but it hadn’t quelled the atmosphere. Besides, the strays had sought refuge indoors during the rainy season.
Drawing new designs quickly became her favourite part of the season.
Entirely entranced, she hadn’t noticed the light hand that caressed the cat between its tiger ears.
Hey. Livia chimed, her teeth straightened ever since she had become a part of the family. Haven’t forgotten the sugar cube for your tea.
Thank you, Tigris answered. Her gaze turned up to bask in the warm light’s caress of Livia’s features.
Livia's hand perched on Tigris shoulder, and her heart leaped into her throat. What are you working on?
Breaths—not hers!—tickled the canvas of her tattooed cheeks. Livia drew nearer and her hair slipped past Tigris’ shoulder. Tender candlelight; kissing her lips with affection, enamouring her smile in kindness, and yearning for her touch in aching.
Tigris coughed.
It’s a modernised pre-war design. Her pencil followed along in explanation. Each movement cast long shadows along the figure and its black coat. This one’s based on—
Livia's gaze flickered with knowledge. Your mother’s coat, I see.
There had been something intangible about her. It was in the mysterious presence shifting when Livia moved to sit on the table’s edge. Her hand rested by Tigris’.
Tigris who hesitated to close the distance between them. But Livia did. Her brazenness was its usual blessing in disguise.
I heard something funny about Halloween back in university, Livia began. Her shoulders bolstered and her head bowed in thought. Cold fingers retraced the tattooed tiger stripes on Tigris’ hand. She left a ghostly shiver behind. It used to be a day to remember the dead.
Leave it to Livia, Tigris had thought. The rain drummed a serenade against the windows and the cat stretched in its slumber. It was Livia who unsettled the tranquillity.
Used to be? Before Panem existed? Liv—you know people like to spin stories about that time.
Maybe it was wisdom. Maybe it was foolishness. Livia shook her head. Either or, a flash illuminated her face in white. She had arched her head up high and scrunched her nose. Her voice grew into an offended whisper. I like it.
It was a moment’s heartache: Tigris had made up her mind to reach for Livia’s hand. But she had withdrawn hers already. Fingers grazed through her hair and bent the shadows to cover her whole.
We should light a candle for your parents—to remember them.
The match struck the box. Dormant fire ignited. Tigris lit the first candle for her mother.
The scent of roasted pumpkin seeds wove itself into the fabric of the flat. She had carved the pumpkin this very morning. One stray had come to sniff the curious new item.
Fire crept along the length of the matchstick. Tigris lit the second candle for her father.
In the quiet of the kitchen, an old costume lay sprawled across a chair. The final stitches remained for tomorrow before the client would pick it up.
Flames burned the wood away. Tigris lit the third candle for Livia.
In its final moments, the kettle whistled. The steam released and evaporated. Tigris shook the match and its fire died in quiet memory.

Trick or treat! Dealer's choice or a prompt: Finnick and Annie take their son to a pumpkin patch.
ooh okay!! i’ve never gotten a writing prompt before so this was super exciting. thank you, and i hope you like it!
(modern au, troublemaker!annie cresta)
Annie refuses to be a cog in a cold, unforgiving capitalist machine. It’s why she stuffs three teeny-tiny pumpkins under her oversized sweater.
In her defense, Walmart is ridiculously easy to steal from. How is that her fault?
“Got everything, my love?”
Annie nods, loading all the snacks for the car ride into the cart. She’d spend all her money on her son any day of the week, capitalistic cog be damned.
Finnick pays, and Annie schemes. Finnick just took Benny on a bathroom break, so she can check that off her list. What about Benny's favorite skeleton sweater for when the sun goes down? A bottle of water? Apple slices?
Check. Check. Check.
Okay, Annie is done scheming.
Benny is only five, but according to her research, this was the perfect time to form core memories. Why not celebrate his cognitive development by going to a pumpkin patch?
Finnick parks, and Annie is back to scheming. Finnick hoists Benny onto his shoulders so he gets the best view of everything, navigating through booths with apple cider and a pen full of fluffy sheep and an absolute labyrinth of a corn maze.
Check. Check. Check.
Thankfully for Annie, all the pumpkins in the field sucked, anyway, so she watches the tattoo of a dancing skeleton in a tophat ripple on Benny's cheek when she makes the grand pumpkin reveal. He grins at her like she hung the moon. Annie smiles back.
Finnick knows her so well that he doesn’t even ask where she even got all that from. He just helps Annie shake out their picnic blanket and assists her into putting her master plan into motion.
Benny may be Annie's spitting image, all dark curly hair and freckled cheeks, but the careful precision he approaches the pumpkin carving with is all Finnick. She and her husband take turns steadying Benny’s teeny-tiny hands so he can trace a design onto his teeny-tiny pumpkin. Annie takes a moment to observe the two, her heart melting almost as severely as the small tub of ice cream she also smuggled out of the store.
Matching scrunched up eyebrows, an identical wrinkle to their noses. They even have dimples in the same exact places, which becomes increasingly obvious when they take a moment to appreciate their handiwork.
Benny doesn’t question that their weapon of choice is a black sharpie, which is good, because Annie didn’t really know how to explain to him that his cognitive development hasn’t surpassed proper hand-eye coordination, and that this made her really, really nervous about potential cuts and nicks.
Annie models her pumpkin off of Finnick. Finnick doodles on a bunch of hearts, informing her that it’s symbolic of his undying love for her. Benny draws teeth all over his, and then he pretends that it's eating Finnick and Annie’s pumpkins.
“No, I’m just kidding,” he promises, edging his pumpkin away from Annie and Finnick’s for emphasis. “It’s gonna eat all the gummy bears, though, so watch out for that!”
Annie laughs. He is so diabolical.

Trick or treat 🎃🧙🏻‍♀️
If you feel like a prompt: Katniss and Peeta both massively crushing on each other during Halloween, and they’re both clueless that the other one feels the same way
This prompt was so good I kinda ended up writing 4k words on it...oops. Since it's so long I've posted it onto ao3 first, but I've included a little intro after your Halloween song!
(Not a) Couples Costume by thesweetnessofspring
Rated: M
“This is…surprisingly a good costume,” Katniss said as she looked at the picture of a plastic smile model with a Princess Leia costume up against the vinyl bag. When Johanna said she had a costume for Katniss to wear to Delly’s party tonight, Katniss had assumed there would be less of it. Slave-Leia instead of A New Hope -Leia.
“Just avoid the obnoxious Star Wars fanboys,” Johanna warned. “Unless you enjoy three hours of regurgitated Twitter discourse.”
People wanting long conversations with her had never been a problem for Katniss, so she figured the costume would be safe. Katniss moved into the bathroom to change and Johanna scoffed, “You can’t even strip in front of your oldest friend, how are you ever going to lose your virginity?”
“Shut up Jo!” Katniss shouted from behind the bathroom door. She’s only eighteen and less than six months out of high school. It’s not weird she hadn’t let some random guy from her job at the pool over summer near her vagina. Her RN mother had been sure to lay out all the risks with being sexually active and prep her with two forms of birth control since she was sixteen. And she was secure in her decision to be selective about what she let inside or near her body.
Of course, that didn’t mean…after a few dates at least…
Oh hell, who was she kidding? There was a guy and maybe Katniss wouldn’t be ready for everything yet, but during Professor Wiress’s lectures she’d wondered more than once what it would feel like to have his hand between her legs.
Katniss observed in her underwear-clad form in the mirror. She might have small breasts and narrow hips, but she’d never been worried about her appearance before. No, unfortunately, Katniss knew the real reason this guy would never want to see her naked was because of how odd and unsociable she’d always been. It hadn’t bothered her brief summer fling or her equally unsocial ex-boyfriend, but Peeta Mellark was different.
They’d been in the same year growing up, but while Katniss skirted to the edges, avoiding any sports or clubs, Peeta’s been at the center of them all: football, wrestling, student body treasurer, art club, Key Club. She’d notice him observing her sometimes, though she noted it probably had to do with him pitying her.
They shouldn’t have ever interacted, even. Peeta had been recruited to play football across the country on a scholarship and Katniss planned on taking community college classes while she figured out the next steps. But then Peeta broke his leg the last game of the season, lost his scholarship, and wound up in the same biology class as Katniss at the end of August.
That alone hadn’t been a guarantee they’d ever speak, and Katniss knew Peeta would have continued to not notice her if Professor Wiress hadn’t instructed them to make groups of four for their experiments and projects. Johanna was one of Katniss’s few friends, and she’d started dating Delly over the summer, who was Peeta’s friend. That’s how they’d all ended up in an odd collection of two sapphics, an All-American boy in the twenty-first century, and the girl who never knew what to say to anyone.
Katniss velcroed the collar of the long white Princess Leia dress around her neck and took a deep breath. There’s no need for her stomach to feel like a whirlwind of leaves across the sidewalk. She reminded herself again that it was biological. She was in her prime childbearing years according to her body (though she swore it’d be at least ten years before popping out any of her own) and the procreative imperative was strong. She’d be a fool not to recognize Peeta as an ideal mating partner. Yes, he was handsome and strong, but he was also incredibly giving and kind and creative and could create social connections where Katniss was only met with silence. She could, she would , crush this crush into nothing. She had to when she had nothing to offer to Peeta in exchange that any other girl didn’t have herself.

🎃👻Trick or treat! 👻🎃 What are Annie and Finnick's favorite parts of the season?
Tumblr media
Hi, thanks for your question!
I think Finnick would get really into dressing up and going trick or treating, especially with younger siblings/his kids. I feel like he’d come up with elaborate costumes and win any costume competitions. Plus, getting free candy is always a win.
Annie would probably love to go outside and appreciate the fall weather. I think she’s the type who would go to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch and just enjoy the season. She’s not as into trick or treating as Finnick is, but she’s happy to support him in that.

Trick or treat :) how do you think Katniss and Peeta would celebrate Halloween if they had it in Panem?
ooooh fun
Okay so I definitely think Katniss pre the first games would try and trade to get a costume or something for Prim so she could be part of the festivities. Though I don't think she would've been specially fond of it, probably thought it was childish. Matter a fact I think trick or treating would've been something people from the Seam couldn't do. But thats besides the fact.
For Peeta pre the first games I think he enjoyed trick or treating when he was a kid, probably accompanied by his dad or one of of his two older brothers. I get a mental image of him being a scarecrow or something silly like that as a child. Then as he grew up I picture him working at his parent's bakery with some type of face paint that would leave customers amazed by his painting abilities. Like a skull or zombie to give the kids that walked in a scare.
Then post the first games I most certainly believe they were dragged to a fancy costume party at the capitol. Maybe as part of the victory tour or just something all victors are invited/obligated to attend. Think Heidi Klum's halloween party but bigger. Now here's kinda the fun part. Though I think Katniss would think the whole ordeal is nonsense, I think Peeta would be lowkey excited to go. Keeping in mind that they don't like capitol events and all. I think he'd be curious to see what type of elaborate costumes people wear, specially the special effects and body paint and all that jazz. As for costumes I think they'd follow the star crossed lovers theme. Possibly some type of greek mythological god matching costume. I don't know, something to involve Katniss' bow like Artemis but then again I don't know how Peeta would fit in there since Artemis had no male lovers. But I'd still love to see him dressed as a greek god. Or maybe a roman it girl and her loving soldier. I'm loosing the plot.
Finally I think that Post Mockingjay once they start rebuilding 12, they would try and do something for Halloween to cheer up the people from the district. Maybe not too much though since I do think it'd be emotional for both of them. But once they have kids and grow back together they'd probably dress up their kids in cheesy family costumes. Think Peeta as a scarecrow, Katniss as a witch, baby boy as a pumpkin and little girl as a crow or raven of sorts.

You open the door and feel a breeze of wind. You notice me, dressed as the inflatable tube dancer doing my unathletic best to move around. You hear me panting: Trick or Treat!
How do you think the Everdeens celebrated Halloween in their childhood? Could be both THG or Modern AU!
Special request: A Katniss and Prim moodboard around the topic :) If not, maybe give me some of your favourite quotes around autumn/Halloween!
Love your costume! 🎃
For THG, since I don't see them having Halloween necessarily, I'll go with the Harvest Festival as their seasonal way to celebrate fall and throw in an everlark fic rec for Coal Dark by dandeliononfire, which is set during D12's fall festival.
Modern AU: for Katniss (in high school) and Prim (in middle school), I'm seeing an au where Katniss is not super into it herself b/c she's focused on school, helping to take care of Prim and probably a part-time job (who has extra money to spend on a costume or time to make one, who wants to spend their time at a Halloween party with all the jerks from high school). But Prim loves it, so of course Katniss helps make whatever costume she's into that year, combo DIY, thrifting and maybe splurging for an accessory or something they can't make themselves.
And when Madge does force Katniss to go with her to a party, she buys black cat ears/tail off amazon for 9.99 and wears it with black leggings and t-shirt, the least effort possible. Shows up at the party only to lock eyes with Peeta Mellark, who she's had a crush on forever. And Peeta has had a crush on her forever, and unfortunately didn't expect her to come, and Finnick had convinced him to dress with him as the SNL dick in the box guys and he thinks he's blown it before they even talk, but she actually thinks it's pretty funny and they end up chatting the whole evening...and maybe Katniss changes her mind about Halloween! :) 🍬🍫🍬
I will try to add a mood board later!
