It's been a while since I've remarked on the Imogen with glasses thing (despite being one of the Patient Zeroes for the discussion about it here on Tumblr Way Back When), which has been slowly going out of vogue but apparently is still being discussed, but I feel like at this point, it's noteworthy that Laura has alluded to knowing about it as a trend on-stream and has sounded baffled, confused, and upset about it being so popular.

Also, it remains frustrating how people misinterpret "the specific way that this entered fanon was part of an overall series of changes to make Imogen look 'cute' in a way that made her more childlike, which is infantilizing, with these glasses being a specific element named as something that made her cuter, and the specific recurring styling speaks toward that intent, especially since the glasses are often in conjunction with other specific design changes that make her seem more childlike" to be "having glasses is infantilizing" just so they can go "it's so stupid people think having glasses alone is infantilizing", which is not what anyone is saying

so as i rewatch cr2 i'm noticing a lot of things that were harder to appreciate when watching live week by week over the span of months, including just how bad the timing was for caleb to find out essek was the traitor

the m9 had just been in rexxentrum and caleb had all of his trauma dug up and shoved in his face. he's terrified and trent is needling at him. he's seeing his former partners still under trent's thumb and seemingly doing well for themselves, while caleb spent the last 15 years in the sanatorium and then on the run living in a haze of trauma and paranoia

but then they go back to rosohna. and essek comes to dinner the first night they're back, and caleb finally starts to think he can trust him. he's got a *friend* outside of the nein for the very first time, and he's cute and they've been flirting and doing magic! sure, he's sketchy, but it turns out he's just sketchy in the same way caleb is! he just wants to fuck around with dangerous magic, that's all. and he might be able to help caleb with his goals! it's a welcome distraction from everything else

and then just over a week later, that comes crashing down in nicodranas

His patience and kindness in letting Nott persue Caleb, and then his own developing feelings, are just so endearing and fun to read about.

it’s very important to me that, in the years following campaign two, jester’s two families slowly become combined as marion unofficially adopts more and more of the nein.

it starts with fjord, for obvious reasons. he was already going to be her son in law anyway, but once she finds out he doesn’t have parents of his own, she fully absorbs him into the family, insisting he needs to eat more and adjusting his clothes before he leaves and playfully scolding him for not keeping in touch often enough. fjord doesn’t really realize what’s happening until he and jester come to visit her one afternoon and she calls them “her babies.”

caleb is a close second. she’s had her eye on him since the night they all spent at ryn’s place in the fire plane, and it doesn’t take long for her to put together why he looks at her and jester spending time together the way he does. caleb, like fjord, doesn’t realize what’s going on for some time — not until he accepts a teaching position at the academy, she gives him a tight hug and tells him how proud she is, and he can’t help but think about how much it reminds him of his mother’s reaction on the day he was accepted into the academy.

next is kingsley, who (though he would never admit it) frankly needs all the surrogate parents he can get to give him a crash course in how the hell to be a person. anyone watching them would have no problem believing they’re family — not just because they’re both tieflings, but because they exude the energy of a mom very insistently loving a teenager who acts annoyed but secretly likes it — and kingsley is the first to actually start calling her mom.

from there, the family just keeps growing until it encompasses basically all of the nein — even essek and, some time later, astrid and eadwulf are taken in. caduceus and veth never fully get the same parenting treatment (caduceus has a perfectly loving family of his own and veth is more like the family’s wine aunt that marion hangs out with when they get together), but their families essentially become like lavorre extended family and they still get included by default when she yells to babenon that “the kids are here!”

and speaking of babenon, he has absolutely no intention of getting wrapped up in any of this. he wasn’t even planning on being the father to one child, and sure, that didn’t go to plan, but it stops there. one (ridiculously charming and nigh impossible to resist) child is more than enough. marion can be a mother to the rest all she wants, but he’ll have no part in it. his family is just her and jester...

...and that lasts for all of a few months before it starts to fall apart. the more he commits to doing the dad thing with jester, the more it starts to spread to the others when they’re with her. and who could blame him? it’s impossible not to start seeing them that way when marion won’t stop calling them “the kids” or “our babies” (or, when they’ve done something particularly stupid, “your children”). if there’s one force in the universe that can match the power of jester’s cuteness, it’s marion’s love for her kids; his will is simply no match for the two forces combined.

Grog

Is still confused when you put your hand in his. Are you stuck? Did that magic glue cause this? What is he supposed to do?

You'd have to explain the joke to him. That'll cause him to realize and then laugh and play it off like he knew what you were doing the whole time.

Of course you wanted to hold his hand, why wouldn't you? His hands are very big and very warm. It'd be warmer to give him a hug instead, but he'll take hand holding.

Would not let go of your hand either. You asked him to hold it and so he will. He'll hold your hand all day if he can, just walking with you wherever you needed to go.

Percy

Gives you an unimpressed look as you hold his hand. Yes he understood what had happened.

Percy just scoffs and rolls his eyes. That joke was dumb, you know if you want affection you can just ask.

If you're lucky, he might give the back of your hand a kiss before going back to what he was doing.

Might pretend like he’s doing the same back to you at some point, only to put some of his tinker’s tools in your hand and telling you to make yourself useful if you’re going to play around in his workshop. He thinks he’s funny.

Essek

Just absentmindedly holds his non dominant hand out while he's still working. Doesn't even look at you since he's still in the middle of reading something. It probably takes him a moment to even realize you're holding his hand.

He's confused as he looks up at you to see a cheeky expression on your face. Essek is still confused before realization sets it and he lets out a small, "ah".

His face turns a darker purple from being flustered but he still holds your hand as he works. Would offer to pull a chair over for you so you can at least sit with him if you're going to be holding hands.

It does make work a tad more difficult since he doesn't want to stop holding hands. If it gets to be too much of a hassle then he'll just take a break and enjoy being in your presence instead.

Molly

You don't even finish the question and he clues into what you're doing. Just gives you a smirk and happily holds his hand out to hold yours. Might give you a little tug so you're standing closer to him.

Also would give a kiss to the back of your hand, but he's making eye contact the whole time and there's a smirk on his face.

He knows what he's doing and if he sees even a hint of you being flustered by his actions then he will be relentless.

Now and then he might give your hands a squeeze, mostly if he's doing something else. It's to let you know that he knows you're there and he'd much rather be enjoying you than doing whatever other nonsense he's stuck with.
