An extremely long life update
Copy-pasted from a news post on my Newgrounds page: https://yukarinladyboss495.newgrounds.com/news/post/1381639
Hey, so I just kinda disappeared out of nowhere with only a vague comment about going on a hiatus but never making any "official announcement" about it. So here I am, just tryna get y'all up to speed with what's been going through my life. Nothin' much, but still quite a lot, so when I make a comeback to all art places, I'm gonna have to do some heavy rework of all my social media to make sure everything's up to date, since many things are very outdated.
So first off, the reason why I went on this hiatus was because of the heavy burnout and a lot of pressure that I was putting on myself, on top of being very emotionally unstable due to gruesome things happening in my life (cutting ties with "friends" that manipulated me, feeling awful about myself, my art, and everything I do, added to having an overall bad luck strike for some months, where it seemed like I could not do a single thing right without messing up five in the process), so I was forcing myself to draw to exhaustion just to keep doing something, so I wouldn't have an anxiety attack. But I just couldn't keep on doing that, which is why I decided to stop producing art for most of this year.
The emphasis is on the word "producing". I'm still making and creating new art, but putting less and less effort into it, and just drawing anything I felt like at the moment, mostly just pencil sketches that I posted on my Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr, and refraining from creating digital art.
It's worked wonders on my psyche, and with every week that went by, I began to "fall in love" again with drawing. I still do not plan to return to making art "seriously", but when I do, I definitely will change the way I produce art, so I can still find the art process enjoyable without putting too much "unnecesarily pointless" effort into it. Some of the sketches I made got a lot of likes and attention, easily putting the rest of my artworks to shame! So yeah, there's that.
The second reason is that since I am a person who just-so happens to be and live in Venezuela, my Paypal account got terminated when I received a very much needed donation, and now I cannot accept support from anyone until I can find a suitable replacement to use that is not Paypal. This means that I am no longer taking commissions(not that I ever got any commissions to begin with), and my Ko-Fi account has donations turned off, essentially locking away all the exclusive content that was uploaded there. Then I watched that Duchess Celestia video where she talked about Ko-Fi's lack of security and how she lost a lot of money, so it's safe to say that I will quit using Ko-Fi altogether. I'm planning to migrate all my content to Patreon so my content is still available for, idk, some lost wandering soul that sends me money probably by mistake, but till then, all of my more recent artworks are banished to the Shadow Realm.
The third reason is that my ol' dinosaur PC is finally gonna get upgraded to 64 bits, so I had to do the tiresome task of making backups of everything I had on it, using only one 23 GB USB drive. Because of that, I couldn't make any digital art even if I wanted to, because I do not have the program to do it, so yeah, if anything, I'd call that a win. That said, once my PC is fully functional again, THAT is when I will be able to produce digital art normally again, so my hiatus will go on a little longer after I feel fully "recovered".
That, in a nutshell, is why I went on this massive hiatus, and let me tell ya, hiatuses are underrated! I know y'all who live off of art have your brains consumed by hustle culture and wouldn't take a break even if your working hand fell off your arm, but as someone who never had art as a career option, taking this time off was the best thing I could ever do. I feel rejuvenated! I'm starting to enjoy things again! I'm happier! I'm exploring new things and rediscovering things that I'd forgotten about or left behind!
I am much better now!
So yeah what I'm trying to say, is that this perception of taking a break as something bad that has to be avoided, and more like a positive thing, seriously! People gotta stop focusing on those silly Twitter numbers and start focusing more on their health and well-being!
"Yeah but it's not that simple, some of us need to make art for a living", brother, I am not looking for a debate, please do not try to reply with this, because I will ignore you. I am in the right, and so are you. Let's just agree to disagree, and move on with our lives, okay?
And that would be it! Just dropping by to let y'all know that I'm still breathing, that I haven't given up on Newgrounds, and that hopefully soon I will return with more art and better than ever!
As my favorite FNaF character would say, I always come back. ;)
Be seein' ya!

Don't reblog
I technically have a bank account now! Which is cool. When I turn 18 (which is pretty soon? only around a month and a half away) I'll probably make a Pa/ypa/l (can't make it now because it's 18+) and see if I can get art commissions. Ve/nm/o and Ca/sha/pp (apps that iirc don't require you to be 18+) aren't available in Australia and I don't know whether to trust the one (1) possible alternative I found or not, so I'll just Wait the month and a half until I can get what I Know I can trust. I think it's probably a good idea to wait anyway bc I want to make more examples of my current artstyle JGKSKDSHGKJS
But yeah SHGKSJGH idk how art commissions are gonna go if/when I do that. I think it'd be fun but also idk how many people would even wanna (or even be able to) pay for my art. I only have like 70 followers on my art blog SDJGHJSDGKH (I have even less here) so I'd be surprised if I even get one (1) commission, unless I get lucky and some of my semi-popular mutuals happen to see it.

This is really random so sorry for bothering you or if it's weird! I don't really have a question but ahh getting a notification that you posted on tumblr today made me smile! I'm not on twitter a whole lot (often forget I even have it) and I hardly use it so it's been a while since I've seen your content! I read your Sabers comic on Tapas (that's where I first found you years ago when you first started posting it, my user is sweet mess but idk if you'd even know that lol). Idk how long ago it's been now but I'm still a huge fan of your art style!!
I was subscribed to your patreon for a little bit but I unfortunately had to cancel it while I was going through some stuff ;w; but I'm glad to see you posting again! I'll have to check twitter more to see more of your content!
Idk why but seeing a notification about you posting on tumblr while I was at work today made me happy. You were one of the few artists I followed on tapas that always made me smile and I think about Sabers a lot still! even though so much time has passed, it left a really good impression and impact on me I think. so yeah! I hope you've been doing well! :3 take it easy~

Like my stuff and it makes them smile TwT No sweat with anything you had to do to keep yourself financially well, there's never an issue with that ! I'm just happy that you got positive feelings from things I made <3

I was in the mood for drawing some cute ship stuff, and I wanted to practice poses too, so I’ve been asking my friends to request some ships for me to draw~ They’re all just colored sketches, but they help me practice :)
This is the twelfth request! From @rozengrotto ~ :D She requested her MC Yuuri and Azul! I hope I did them justice, because Yuuri is so adorable <3
One more to go! :D

(That's why I'm practicing, to begin with!) And I really love drawing Kira's Yuu, they're so cute <3 Edit: Pose reference from here!

It's Jade and her OC Athy! :D It was the same pose as the last one, but since I had some trouble drawing it the first time, I guess I practice it even more! (I have to draw it 2 more times as well lmao)

now I'm curious who are your favourite graphic makers and why?
I could list 10+ of them but it would be a super long one so I’ll write some that I really, really love dearly and have been a huge inspiration to me throughout the years of making graphics until now.
Will put it under read more.
@gray I seriously don’t know where to start. Jay just... makes art. The kind of art that reminds you of old, 1800-1900 classic paintings you see in the museum? Their high class taste in everything (fashion, art, literature, music, literally everything) enhances the qualities in every graphic they create. And everything they make always have a meaning behind it, it’s never the “idk what to put here so I’ll just do the same thing like what I did on my prev gfx” and it tells a story in a very poetic way. Their color palettes are always so on point and there’s just something about their style that makes it theirs and theirs only.
@dearestsoul Bea and her narrative based graphics, I could never not fall for them. She makes the most beautiful, dreamiest graphics ever. Her ZNT series blew my mind the first time I saw them. Looking at her graphics just feels like I’m reading her own series of stories and her storytelling is just so good. They make me feel things even when I don’t know the fandom she’s creating content for and I have always wanted to create graphics that can make people feel that way because of her. She’s got too much power in her hands.
@micaelis Dan basically paved everyone’s way. The first time I saw her PP x ZNT crossover gifset I was completely blown away. “How can a person be this talented?” and her taste is very exquisite and it’s reflected in the details of her works. All her creations from her normal gifsets, graphics, colorings, glitch gifs and even fanmixes are all masterpieces I honestly can’t comprehend (and she makes gorgeous themes too like h o w). I’m especially in love with her Tokyo Ghoul edits, they’re out of this world.
@16kb Will forever be mesmerized by the way Rasha colors. Her style is so unique.. All of her works are extremely charming & magnificent, and she always, always nailed contrast, vibrant colors and her textures combination slaps so hard, I legit have NO idea how she does that every time. How does she manage to make her graphics & colorings look “messy” but really neat and pretty at the same time? Magic. She’s the biggest inspiration for me to be more experimental with bright colors in my graphics and I’m very, very grateful towards her for that.
@tomura I’ve said this so many times before but I’ll say it again; Fran is really on a whole another level. Impeccable taste, always executes professional work, flawless from head to toe, discovers new style every time she uploads her new work; she’s everything in one package. Always SO inspiring here and there. I’ve never wanted to learn After Effects so bad until I met her & that’s just how impactful she is. Describing her works only as gorgeous would be a huge understatement.
@svmeragi A master when it comes to applying a lot of textures and make her works look very aesthetically pleasing and artistic. The range of color palettes she uses is wide and peculiar (in a good way), very skillful at combining all the elements and make all of her creations outstanding. She’s one of my very first friends here on tumblr and we grew together as graphic makers and I am so very thankful to be able to see her significant improvements over the years.
@noxdivina Lin never ceases to amaze me with his surprises, his typography skill & taste are beyond me... One of the few consistent pale/b&w graphic makers out there that can always pull off his works really well without losing the quality of it. Refined, classic, clean, & elegant; that’s how I would describe his works. He also belongs to one of those content creators whose works make you feel things; yearning? sad? sentimental? peaceful? everything in between? Yeah, his works have these hypnotizing effects the moment you look at them.
@monsteous Sen and her uniqueness & complexities in her works. The ideas she comes up with are always refreshing and just, how is she really great working with a lot of contrast colors in one go without making it overwhelming and out of place? Most of her works look so clean and effortless but she never overlooks any small details and that just shows how observant & thorough she is with her works. Retro colours could never go wrong with her.

Dsmp tumblr fandom is actually pretty chill and its mostly just a whole bunch of fanartist and people who like to write 1000 word character analysis essays. (godspeed to those mother fuckers i dont know how they do it). We also regularly make fun of the weirdos with bad takes over on the twitter fandom cus its funny. Community pvp event. Anyways Angry Thomas on youtube has been compiling a lot of lore vods into short vids and they look really click baity but like theyre actually decently edited videos?? Idk. Good place 2 start if u want to catch up
Lore is good but its been kinda slow lately so if u want a story that is ongoing and constantly updating right now i would reccomend the Last Life series over on youtube. U just kinda pick some youtubers POV and click ep 1 and go from there. Last Life is technically the 2nd season, with the first season being called Third Life which is also really good but u dont need to watch to understand LL. Fandom is also really chill and has a lot of writers. Its a lot bigger here than on twitter
Anyways thanks for coming 2 my ted talk ive been stuck in this fandom for over a year now and i cannot leave the door is gone but u know it sparked my interest in making art again so maybe thats not a bad thing. Hope u have a goofd day! :D
I was expecting a different ask so seeing three paragraphs about dsmp really slapped me klgjnhdkj but it's worded so sweetly it's honestly a pretty good sales pitch. I was wondering how to start since the vods are so crazy long and spread out everywhere and like, vods disappear so unless the streamer uploads them then I have to watch an unofficial upload and do I TRUST like that?? So that's good to know. I literally saw LL fanart for the first time today I had no idea it existed. I've been trying to watch Origins but I just realized they don't rly do much rp until season 2 so I'm like do I skip ahead...... But anyway dsmp seems like a whole nother ball game lol I appreciate the input. I can kinda tell that tumblr fandom is really different than the twitter one and seems like a generally positive space but I'm also old now and everyone uses so many new words I will have to learn. I might not rly involve myself with the fandom I could just absorb it on my own time. It's interesting how much meta drama there is but when I look at the source it seems so.... benign? I wanna know what the deal is.

I'm an artist who wants to spread my Super Left (tm) values in a zine, but idk where to start. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get a small production team together? I can do online stuff too.
The great thing about zines is that you have a lot of options so let me try to break down how you can do this.
What’s the Zine About?
Figure out what you’re going to focus on. You seem to know what you want to do on this front but think about what medium you’d like to see in your zine. Is it going to be a general leftist zine with whatever topics you/volunteers send in or are you going to do themes. Are you strictly asking for writing or can people send in poetry, art, comics, photography, etc.?
Maybe you want to do a whole zine dedicated to community work? Then you make a “call for submissions” and let everyone know the theme of your zine and what they can contribute by a certain deadline. Let them know what mediums you’re looking for and whatever other details you think people need to know. In my experience, the really specific zines can either work or not - some people really want to express themselves on certain topics while others might require you to do most of the work.
Oh and don’t forget to name your zine! Maybe make a logo or have someone make one that you can put on your zine, the call for submissions posts, and maybe stickers, magnets, shirts, patches, buttons, etc.
Finding Artists and Writers
As far as getting the word out, I’d suggest posting on your social media. Maybe even create a page for your zine alone and tag it so it gets seen. The main zine I work on has a twitter, tumblr, facebook, instagram, and it’s own website. The last or first page in your zine can have this information or other ways of contacting you (like email) if people want to send stuff in for future issues (if you plan on doing multiple).
You’ll probably have to do a lot of work for the first zine or two unless you have friends that want to work on this with you or you have a big social media following. It’s okay if you don’t any submissions for a while, make this a personal project for now or you can even push deadlines dates back until you get enough submissions.
You can even ask writers and artists online if you can use some of their work that fits the theme of your zine but MAKE! SURE! TO! CREDIT! THEM!
Zine Layout
Figure out what size your zine is going to be and how you’re going to lay it out. I see a lot of different ways people do this so you’re going to have to figure out what you’re best at here. Try looking up some templates, here’s a page that has Microsoft templates for zines from 4 pages to 40 and you can find more online just like it. It’s already laid out and numbered you just have to fill it in. This link shows how to make mini-zines with one sheet of paper, which is very easy.
The zine community is very accessible to those who aren’t that great with this kind stuff (like me lol). But if you have an easier or more preferable way of doing it then go ahead because there’s no one way to make zines.
Printing & Binding
Okay so printing is the hardest part, in my opinion. I personally don’t have a great printer and I’m totally jealous of people that don’t have issues with this part but let’s be real most people don’t have high end printers. So if you have a normal printer you totally can print your zines on it, I’d suggest black and white so you don’t waste a ton of money but that’s up to you and your budget. (And trust me, no zinester cares if it’s B&W.) If you have access to a high end printer that’s even better and it’ll be easy for you.
If you don’t have either of these options you can easily just go to an Office Max-type place and print your pages out there. Find places that can do this in your area and compare prices because you might find some that are 10 cents a copy or 50 cents a copy and obviously you don’t want to spend a ton of money on this part. Also, look for deals on printing costs. And if you don’t have access to one of these places then you can upload the pages online and have it mailed to you.
Binding is also something you need to consider. Some people just do mini-zines which don’t require binding at all, some staple the pages, some sew them, some just hold the zine together with a thin ribbon. Again, do whatever is easiest for you. Most of these are pretty easy but sewing requires a bit of work, if you’d like to see how that’s done then here’s a guide.
Selling Your Zine
Okay hard part is done, now you want to sell your zine? First, figure out the cost. I’m just telling you now, you’re probably not going to make an enormous amount of money doing this but you’ll probably be able to make enough to keep the zine going if those are your plans. Or you can hand them out for free and just ask for donations. Whatever you want.
Look for zine events in your area, or events that you think would benefit from you tabling there (not necessarily zine related). Most big cities will have a zine fest every year and I’d definitely suggest signing up. If you’re far from one then I’d still suggest talking to the organizers because they might be able to get you there. (For example, the zine fest in my town puts funds aside when their fundraising to fly people out or house them.) You can put them in your local coffee shop for free, if you’d like. I’d also suggest looking for a zine distro in your area to try to sell them there. Some libraries will also hold zines from around the country and you can send them there (the San Diego Central Library is one and they accept them from all over).
(If you do end up making your zine please contact me again and I can give you the address to my local zine distro that I help out with. They will sell your zines or you can donate one or two to the distro’s zine library. If you talk to the owner you can also let them know if you’d like all the money made to go to you or if you’d like to split it to support the shop. Anyone else interested can also message me.)
E-Zines
Okay so if you’re able to there is also the option to make your zine readable online. You can do this along with your printed zine or just do it completely online. You can make this as a website or in PDF form and again, you can decide how you want this to go. The PDF can be free or you can charge x-amount and then send it through email. I’m not very good at this but if you know how to do all the stuff that this type of zine needs then go for it.
Okay I think that’s it. Hope this helped.
