As someone who is VERY fascinated with adaptation in film (who spent quuuuuuite some time back in college obsessing over it for assignments) and who adores the graphic novel, my biggest takeaway from Nimona is that it is an EXCELLENT adaptation. Especially considering how much that production went through! Like, all of the changes and things they expanded on made sense for the transition from book to movie. My second takeaway is that I love it <3 Please go watch it I beg of you 🙏

Dorm-inspired Outfits (from my Closet)

A few months ago, I put together a few things from my closet based on the different twst dorms. I posted them to Reddit, but now, they shall also have a home here on Tumblr :) But I'll also add a bit more info on the inspirations behind my use of the various pieces here, just for fun. Also, pardon the socks; I didn't bother picking shoes to go with the outfits. I'll describe what shoes I would wear with each look, though!

Also, uhh... body reveal? Before showing my cosplay (whenever it is that I finish it lol)

Heartslabyul

For this outfit, I wanted to feature the clashing patterns and fabrics of the dorm uniforms, while also incorporating an Alice in Wonderland-esque aesthetic. I used a yellow fabric belt, similar to the yellow sash of the dorm uniform, and added a scarf with a rose pattern and the same colour scheme as the rest of the outfit. I also retained my watch (which I really should have switched out for one of my analogue watches, but... oh well) and my "Save The Bees" bracelet, since it seemed to fit with the theme and I wear it on basically a daily basis, so...

I would pair this look with these white socks and my saddle oxfords.

Savanaclaw

With the Savanaclaw outfit, I wanted an active and somewhat more masc look. I tried to stay true to the warm colour scheme, and reference the leather vest of the dorm uniform using the sleeveless flannel I had. I also kept my watch and bracelet for this outfit, but I added two necklaces - one with a celtic knot pendant, and one with a piece of quartz, though if I had a tooth or bone necklace, I would have used that instead.

I would wear my brown leather boots with this outfit.

Octavinelle

This outfit is one of the closest to how I normally dress. The dress is black with lavender flowers, with a gather in the skirt on the left side, giving the heavy material more movement - it just feels "Octavinelle". I added a braided belt with a silvery buckle to give a little more definition, and a pearlescent pink and purple necklace, along with white gloves. I also wore my cream coat over my shoulders as a coat-cape, à la Azul Ashengrotto.

I would not wear socks with this, but instead stockings and my black and white pumps.

Scarabia

I wanted to follow the colour scheme and ~vibe~ of the dorm and its uniform for this Scarabia-inspired outfit. The floral skirt may seem to be an odd choice, but the deep orange of the flowers and the satin material seemed to fit with Scarabia. I also added more jewellery - multiple rings, and two necklaces, all golden in colour - to complete the look.

I would probably wear either my tan scandals, or white ankle socks and my heeled leather oxfords with this outfit.

Pomefiore

I felt like Pomefiore needed a classic, powerful look - what better way to do that than with a black pencil skirt? That, I paired with a sheer blouse with satin cuffs, and a (mostly) purple, high-necked, sleeveless knit. The orange, cream, and golden stripes in the knit also reflect the gold detailing of the Pomefiore dorm uniform.

I definitely wouldn't wear socks with this - it's another job for the black and white pumps, or maybe even my black heeled boots, depending on the vibe.

Ignihyde

Ignihyde just SCREAMED for the use of my CrankGameplays "Soft Boi" shirt. It's light blue, plus it's gamer merch - the perfect combo. Add in some black jeans, headphones, and a blue and white scarf in the pocket, and Ignihyde is complete!

I'd wear either my pink skate shoes, or maybe my brown leather boots with this one, I think.

Diasomnia

Finally, Diasomnia. I simply needed to use my green turtleneck with this one, but I knew I had to use black for the rest of the outfit. So, black trousers and a black cardigan (again, over the shoulders) were the other components I used, as well as a black braided belt - both to add a little texture, as well as a hint of silver, as is featured in the Diasomnia dorm uniform as well.

I'd wear black socks and my black heeled boots with this outfit.

ok as an artist i personally find traditional painting to be. really really annoying. like. i do not have the patience for it and i just find it to be really frustrating to set up and actually do and i end up not liking the results. i find that there's little room for mistakes and trying to fix them usually ends up with me making 50 other ones, paints can be so inconsistent and having to rely on availability and certain brands to continue making the paint is really inconvenient, not to mention expensive. spending a bunch of time trying to mix the right shade of paint, only for it to go down a completely different shade of colour and not being able to do anything about it is so frustrating as someone who likes consistency and having things just, y'know, not change colour as soon as it dries. plus, they all use different chemicals and can go off really easily or change textures and i am just not ok with having all my materials having an expiration date like food. lead and graphite pencils just don't do that and they can last for years, they're more reliable. every paint is drastically different and trying to find the right one is not only time consuming but, again, expensive, and i don't even see the point in experimenting when most of my materials end up not even getting used if i don't like using them. plus, i'm just.... really impatient. waiting for paint to dry sucks and is why i much prefer digital or just drawing something because i don't need to wait for anything, it just works. and then when i do want to take my time and work slowly for a better result, it dries too fast. it's kinda hellish trying to balance that time, especially considering how inconsistent paints are.

i like to use guidelines when doing art and i find painting straight onto a canvas to be really tricky because there's a lack of direction for me to actually paint. i'm at a complete loss at what to do when i pick up a brush because i can't map it out first without risking screwing up the paint. there's just so many things to keep track of and so much wet paint to avoid and i just do not have the mind for it. putting colours on a canvas and praying that it works just isn't it for me and requires a discipline that i just don't wanna involve myself with. painting is also just like... really exhausting and kinda painful. i got some pretty bad back issues and my arms tire and get sore easily and quickly when i'm standing in front of a canvas. it's a really physical activity for me and i just don't find something to be very fun to do at all when it's physically hurting me. i know drawing on a canvas has this issue too, which is why i prefer sketchbooks. sitting down and drawing something that doesn't break my entire spine every time i do it is much more preferrable than questioning if i should go to the doctor every time i make a brushstroke, lol

that's not to say that there's nothing i like about painting though! i can paint simple little things, and i like doing that. i like mixing colours with a palette knife and i find it fun and even a little relaxing. i painted some cute little chibi cardboard cutouts of the mario brothers one time and i found that to be really fun and i think i'd like to do that again! but apart from that, i just do not have the patience for it. i love the look of traditional paintings and i find many to be really beautiful, but i could never get into actually doing it myself because i hate the process. i'm content with just sketching and doing digital stuff because that's more fun to me and less stressful of a process to do. it's fun, it allows for more mistakes, it's easier to build up layers of shading and lines, not to mention using building up a figure with guidelines is super helpful with visualising what i want it to look like, and i can just erase something if i don't want it there or want to change something. it just makes sense to me.

tl;dr i dont like painting because it's inconsistent, expensive, time-consuming, directionless, frustrating and it makes my back hurt really bad. i'll just stick to drawing stuff :)

I absolutely LOVE the body horror and how it's not flattering or cute, like this isn't some cute little ears and tail shit, this is ACTUALLY GROSS and I love that,so many people refuse to actually make their "monstrous" characters unsettling in any significant way that might impact their attractiveness. Respect. Also, the idea it makes petting cats and furry critters harder is genuinely the most tragic side effect I've ever heard, that hit me way harder than so many other "was a lab rat" character's after-effects because holy shit, that would be the WORST for ME PERSONALLY. It may not seem like the most tragic awful thing compared to PTSD and pain and so on, but like, it's UNIQUE and it's incredible relatable in its mundane nature at the same time, and feels so much more sad and real than a bunch of OTT trauma stuff I can't actually relate to. It's such an everyday, mundane thing like you said so the fact you can relate how hard something like that would actually be despite it being one of the simplest joys most people wouldn't think twice about. Sure, there's the PTSD, the pain and trauma that comes with being an unwilling lab rat and growing all those very gross eyes and teeth which are not cute at ALL, so you finding that one very tragic aspect to her character is something I honestly smile about (in the worst possible way!) because for all the horrors that are part of her background, the everyday and mundane is something I wanted present too? At the end of an awful day, giving your beloved pet a hug is pretty much the only good thing about it and this poor bitch can't even have that because of her nasty, staticky little hands LMAO.

This is where I currently am with my rewrite of Tales Of A Frozen Sailor. Just right at the beginning essentially. No one knows who Jesse Hudson actually is, but soon some new information is soon to come to light.

#The fight Cyrano has with seven/eight/one hundred men is the Cyrano actor in the middle of the stage fighting the plushes they throw him #One of the plushes is hanging from a rope and it looks a bit like they're hitting him with a corpse #It was almost The Brotherhood 2 levels of hilarity #Why didn't they just ask someone around to put on a costume and appear for ten minutes is beyond me lol #I'm so fond of this musical xD #They literally have seven and a half actors and a bunch of plushes but it's one of my favourites #I talk too much #I should probably delete this later #Cyrano de Bergerac #I'm this 👌 close to start uploading some fragments from some of the productions I've watched since I've saved them for myself anyway #And several of the clips I have half a mind of posting are from this production #The traveler of the Moon scene. Perhaps the first scene with Le Bret which is so funny and cute #Maybe the balcony scene mainly because of how much I laughed when he moved that tree xD #And perhaps I could make some gifs with the continuity of the handkerchief. The tree‚ the plushes and the handkerchief #Truly this production keeps on giving #Anyway I also thought of uploading Solès' and perhaps the Italian production's traveler of the Moon scenes #Maybe Kline's and McAvoy's too #I didn't like that scene all that much the first time I read the play but obviously it's one of my favourites now #I think it gives way to a lot of creativity in stagings and for the actor playing Cyrano to shine at his most comical #to then hit with a pan when he changes registers in the end #(I also just really love the moon so maybe I'm a bit biased) #Rereading my tags and like... It is NOT pathetic. The musical OWNS the plushes and it's FANTASTIC. Hilarious and ridiculous in the best way #More Metal Gear or Monty Python and the Holy Grial than The Brotherhood 2 in truth

#The Battle Drum #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #okay I do feel similarly about this as I did the first one...really love a lot of what’s going on I just feel like some of the structure/plo #plot focus could b better #like the first one fell back on the generic competition framework which I felt was meh....this one does that a bit with murder mystery #it had a cool in-universe summary of book 1 #something about the politics/past/worldbuiling feels…I wanted some more connection or complexity or something? #or maybe i just expect more from adult fantasy #anoor's naivety got a little frustrating at time #like the murderer was pretty obvious #I love: cool new cities! glass city! MUSHROOM CITY #when sylah sees a camel and describes it in the most 'weird unknown fantasy creature' kind of way #I still find zines weirdly anachronistic.......when magazines don't exist in the world... #but I can give that a pass I guess #there's also an aroace side character (has some POV) who I have......mixed feelings about? #an interesting complex character but also. is SA'd for years before she finally decides t kill her husband #then becomes an antagonistic cult leader #I don't think that's INHERENTLY a bad thing; but idk; why was that a choice? maybe she'll be redeemed (for lack of a better word) next book #anyway all of these critiques are very much like. this has the potential to be in my favourite kind of books ever and doesn't QUITE reach my #expectations..........so like it is very good. I just ahhhhh want slightly more/different things #oh also jond and kitten was good. I still hate him for being the perpertrator of my Least Favourite Trope but. he has a baby kitten.... #wait i should also mention the plot twist of who the person is is pretty good #didn't figure that one out #but going back through highlight notes i was like oh...there was clues...

I guess it also depends on the genre too, bc I have different expectations depending on what it is. Monster Hunter as an example is still great even if it’s writing is ass, but nobody plays monhun for the writing.

I guess if I go into a game what I’m willing to put up with depends on my expectations of what I want to get out of it in the first place.
