Autumn looks up from her book when Mal flops down on their bed and sighs. Twice.

"Uh... Mal?"

He mumbles something that sounds like, "Yes, kit?"

"Is something wrong?"

"Something wrong, she asks. Yes, there's something wrong!"

"And that would be..."

"It's..." His already crestfallen face falls further. "Nothing. It's nothing."

Concerned, she puts the book down and lays a gentle hand on his cheek. "Mal, you know I'm here for you."

"You'll laugh."

"I promise you I won't."

"Fine. Is..." He pauses. Whatever the problem is, it's hard for him to talk about. "Is Tyril funnier than me?"

"What?"

"Tonight, everyone laughed at Tyril's joke, but only Nia laughed at mine!"

Autumn claps a hand to her mouth to avoid her own burst of laughter. "Mal, are you telling me that you're jealous of Tyril?"

"Do not even suggest that," he says, aghast. "I'm not jealous. I'm simply... confused."

"About what?"

"I'm the funny one! Not Elf Boy! So why was everyone laughing at his jokes!"

Oh boy.

"Come on, love, you know you're hilarious. This one joke didn't land, that's all."

He sits up and glares at her. "My jokes always land."

"And Tyril was in rare form tonight. There might be something to that fancy elf wine after all."

He gasps. "You think the wine bewitched our crew?"

"That's not what I..."

"Of course!" He slaps a hand to the mattress. "That explains everything! It wasn't the joke, it was the wine!"

"Mal, I don't think..."

"Thank you, kit!" He presses a kiss to her forehead and scurries out of the bedroom.

Autumn picks up her book again. He's lucky she loves him.

GGGAAAAHHHHH!!!! OH MY GOSH DID YOU HEAR ME SCREAM??!!! I woke up to this absolute gem of my Autumn and Mal!!! 😍🥰❤️

I died right there. Of course Mal is jealous of Tyril though he'll never admit that. But of Tyril being funnier?! This is art and I am so here for it!

Gotta love that self confidence! And then blaming it on the elven wine??!!! Mal, you are lucky Autumn loves you and was able to navigate this whole existential crisis of yours with a somewhat straight face 😂

(I HC Autumn goes right back to reading the Crown & the Flame while Mal "practices" his jokes on the children.)

Oh she totally does, albeit very very very reluctantly.

T: Nora you need to listen to the below message in its entirety, it is really imperative you do so because it supplies important contextual information that one might need. T: So the year was 1912 and the very first library in Drakkos City was constructed - this is relevant to the topic, I promise and..

It goes on for at least 20 minutes and Nora's at her desk, scrolling through emails from her next client with the phone just playing her a history podcast in the background and for Trystan to circle around for 20 minutes before making a point, which is usually just a mixture of "And that's how I think it might be useful to the case" or "I forgot what I was trying to say, give me a solid minute-" or "Wait, wait, wait *cursing, expletives in the background, very muffled* - I forgot to make this important point" and then it sidetracks to a whole different tangent that Nora would require at least five volumes of prerequisite knowledge to understand.

Eventually she got used to it. Trystan cannot bother himself with the keyboards; it takes longer to get a point across when he is a lot more articulate over voice than transcribed in text and Nora's cool with it. Gives her a chance to use as substitute for her morning commute music.

Oh... @thosehallowedhalls... this was revisiting an old friend! :) Pink Floyd is one of my all-time favorite rock bands. It was my uncle's favorite band, and he raised me on them. When I listen to Floyd, the lights have to be out, all media is off, the fam and friends know NOT to interrupt me - and that's exactly what I just did. Sorry, this shit is magical to me.

I don't know if you have laser shows by you. They were big in NYC many years ago, then they died off, but a local Science Center started doing them again. Laser Floyd is one of their more popular ones, and I may have seen it a couple dozen times at various stages of my life (sometimes sober, sometimes... well) It's a freaking amazing experience.

4. Does your character care about their reputation and/or how others perceive them?

Killian: well, a -- bit, I'd say? she is not a sociable person by nature, but she values what her friends and well-wishers would have to say about her. to her, 'approval' is the same as reputation which is why she tried super hard to be someone else entirely while engaging with different Party members. Especially w/ Tyril and his family, she tried to be perceived as sophisticated, smart, the heir of a whole House (even though she wanted nothing to do with her past).

Nora: Absolutely not lmao, she's just too tired to analyze her reputation and how others perceived her. She's hit the saturation point, now she's just happy doing Sudoku on company time.

7. Is your character good with kids?

Killian: she is.. not lmao. Sure, she did take care of Kade when they were young - mostly because Killian was older and we'll just blame it on the "oldest child responsibility" but she isn't really that good with taking care of kids nor does she want to. She tries to but it's just awkward at times and she's given up. It's funny because Mal and Nia opened up an orphanage in her name as per blades 2 canon, but are positively perplexed when Killian does not know how to actually take care of kids and resorts to just simply entertaining them by shooting arrows with fire-tipped edges.

Nora: Decently good with them, mostly because in her early days of working with Mafalda, her boss would bring her kids to work while Theresa wasn't available. Nora ended up practically raising Gabriella and Cici, helping them out with homework. She isn't good by "gold star" standards, but a fairly decent babysitter who can check things off your list.

8. What are some internal obstacles that your character has to overcome?

Killian: mostly to find places to hone her craft and engage in problem-solving better. In my canon, her sense of "adaptability" are equally her greatest strength as well as her weakness. I hc the blades skill-acquisition mechanic could be translated to Killian trying to adapt to different conditions. She has a bit of learning curve with all of them because for a long while, she's just relied on the one skillset she has - archery. It's mostly the obstacle of learning as you go along, keep adapting to a bunch of different conditions and improving her craftsmanship along the way.

Nora: Anger issues. Growing up, Nora struggled a lot with anger. She'd pick fights in school and was the epitome of the disruptive kid so much so the ER nurses practically have her birth chart memorized. A big part of her character development relies on controlling it. However it spikes up from time to time; voluntarily throwing herself in violent situations just to throw a punch and feel better about the crack of her fist against someone's jaw. And her biggest justification is that she does so to honour her parents. Eye for an eye. A big part of her story is just her unlearning that and finding better places to channel her anger in a much healthier way. Part of the reason why she doesn't talk so much.

12. What are some of your character's pet peeves?

Killian: She hates it when people make wisecracks in combat, it really doesn't help boost morale and only serves as a distraction. As well as running into battle without a strategy. A half-baked strategy is better than no strategy. Not exactly much of a pet peeve but she doesn't like the feel of dry hands, so she keeps a bit of vegetable oil or grease in a box in her pocket to apply to her hands in between loading and shooting arrows at monsters.

Nora: When people take too long to do something and don't give out any prior reason. She's a bit of a strickler for time. Be it clients taking a while to transfer their fees or a call taking too long to connect, she absolutely hates waiting for no reason at all. She isn't a fan of background noise because it throws her off, but at the same time can't work in vacuum. Her volume preferences are literally so precise she measures them in fucking decibels lmao. A rap song too fast? She's abolishing her music provider. A fan that makes a jarring noise? She'd rather work in pouring sweat. You get the idea.
