I used to like Tony Dungy. It's sad to see internal biases surface so quickly due to uncritical thinking.
There are instances of schools putting buckets of kitty litter in classrooms to see to the needs of kids locked in their classrooms due to active shooters.
School shooters are are direct result of the insane gun policies promoted and fiercely defended by the GQP. In turn, they try to score culture war points by deflecting the real reason for the litter.
I don't know about you, but I'm haunted at the memory of 200+ lawmen armed to the teeth who could not save 21 lives from one shooter in Uvalde. They were afraid of being out-gunned.

Tony Dungy Apology
There is transphobia and hatred of LGBTQ in his original. For that reason it has to go below the “read more line” Please preserve your mental health.
Tumblr media
Original tweet text That’s nothing. Some school districts are putting litter boxes in the school bathrooms for the students who identify as cats. Very important to address every student’s needs.
9:38 1/18/23
This assertion has been debunked

Apology tweet:
Tumblr media
Text of apology tweet:
I saw a tweet yesterday and I responded to it in the wrong way. As a Christian I should speak in love and ways that are caring and helpful. I failed to do that and I am deeply sorry.
1. What is he sorry for? 0 No idea. I had to go digging for the original text.
2. Who is he sorry to? 0. No idea who he is sorry to.
3. Why was it wrong? 0 No idea why it was wrong.
4. How would he fix it and not do it again in the future? 0 No explanation of this.
5. Accept full responsibility? .1? But I’m more likely to give him zero. 0
6. Make reparations? 0 God is not the people you hurt, and the Bible said to try to make amends to the people you hurt.
Deductions:
- Appealing to God -1. What does God have to do with the people you hurt?
https://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-apologizing.html
God would not support you doing this.
Rating: Non apology -1.
Rewrite of apology: While the original non-apology is shorter than most, I think it’s important to think about scraping it and starting through each of the steps.
I falsely stated that children identify as kittens and schools are putting litter boxes in bathrooms. This is completely false and has been debunked. I realize now this is an anti-LGBTQIA statement and an urban legend, which deeply hurts that community. But it also hurts school teachers and the original children this accusation was made about.
In order to make amends, I have posted the corrections to the original statement in the thread below, and will dedicate X amount to the Trevor Project specifically aimed towards education and Education initiatives to help teachers https://www.donorschoose.org/ in X amount.
I deeply apologize to the LGBTQIA community and teachers for the hurt I have caused.
If he insists on an appeal to God... then it should go something like this:
I have also disappointed my fellow Christians as we are taught to apologize properly and talk with love and understanding. I ask for forgiveness from God, but understand I do not always deserve it from the people I’ve hurt and in this case, school teachers, children, and the LGBTQIA community.
But this should not be in lieu of the former proper apology and making amends.
Note:
Shortest non-apology on the blog so far.

Ex-treinador de futebol americano irá evangelizar no Super Bowl
Tumblr media

This year’s march on January 20, however, has a first-time participant who is trumpeting a giddy excitement over the forthcoming festivities. His name is Tony Dungy, retired Hall of Fame coach, cohost of the top-rated NBC show Football in America, and someone venerated throughout the NFL world as a man of character. Well, Dungy is certainly taking his reputation for a test-drive, and it’s hardly the first time. Dungy has spent years as an anti-gay bigot, while the NFL and NBC barely blink. He speaks at conferences whose organizers are violently homophobic. He said publicly and proudly that he would not want gay football player Michael Sam on his team. He said over a decade ago that he disagreed with the “lifestyle” of Jason Collins, the first out active male gay player in the main four North American sports. This is a Dungy staple, calling being LGBT a “lifestyle,” even after people have said to him repeatedly how hurtful and outdated such a description is. He simply doesn’t care. (People should read the two-part series in Outsports about Dungy’s history of homophobia.)
