hello! we are the sugar system, a medically recognized mixed origin OSDD system. we have 70+ members, but the most common fronters are:

I am rebranding this page and making it an Indian/Indigenous politics page.

You can call me Serpiente and my pronouns are he/him/él exclusively. Do NOT call me “she” or any other pronouns, and ESPECIALLY do not call me “they”. degendering/misgendering Natives is racial violence.

Let me lay down my first boundary clearly: I am an Indian, yo soy Indio, and no one can take that from me. I am well aware of the history of the word as it pertains to Turtle Island. However, there are many Indians, young and old, who utilize and reclaim that identity with pride and prefer the term. I use the term because I know my history as a CHamoru person colonized by the Spanish. I use the term to empower myself. I have been called a drunk Indian. I have been stereotyped as the angry savage Indian over and over by whites and fellow Natives alike. I was born an Indian, I will die an Indian, and I will not be told I cannot identify as such or use the term. North American Natives do not have a monopoly on the term Indian/Indio. I suggest y’all learn about the history of Spanish colonization and educate yourselves on Indigenous communities that use the term Indian or were called Indian by the Spanish and other colonizers. I will not be whitesplained the meaning and history of my own identity. If you are genuinely triggered by my identity as a CHamoru Indian, the block button is right there.

🖤🤎I’m a triracial Brown Connected Indigenous person. I am a Colonized Native belonging to an unincorporated US territory and former British Colony. I am Pacific Islander, Asian, Turtle Islander/Pachamama Native, Afrikan, and European. I identify with many genders and sexualities, but being mamflorita, malalåhi, gela’, machom, and two spirit is the very center of my identity.🖤🤎
