I’m afraid not my love! I have already laid out my lore of a Vampire’s reflection in Chapter Two when I said that Vampires DO have a reflection (along with not being destroyed in sunlight.) The reason why Taehyung would have moved out of view is because he would have wanted her to see only herself without seeing him in her field of vision ^^

“The Lucky Ones” preview of Issue 1 Script/Text only

PAGE ONE

1.1 - 1.3

[A rattling ship lurches slowly into the endless ether. A sparkling display of stars and intergalactic anomalies decorate the scene behind and around the rickety rocketship. This particular spaceship looks as dinged up and poorly maintained as a garbage truck from a rural town. It has ugly shades of green paneling covering up what was once a snazzy, silverish-metal. The ship has three different colored fins, sputtering rocket propulsion, and an antennae with 20 sided dice in the rearview mirror. There are a series of panels as the ship looms in closer to the frozen, desolate, rogue planet that is more akin to a ball of ice. This planet, simply known as BǎoBèi Om, is omitting a beacon. We will see that on the next page. ]

PAGE TWO

2.1 [This is a distress beacon and it shows up on a panel inside the spaceship. YAKKLE stares at it, anxiously.]

2.2

YAKKLE: “This stinks. This ain’t no language we know, ain’t even comin’ up in the Galactic Dictionary.”

MAZGBOB: “You’ve said that. Twice.”

2.3

YAKKLE: “S’just makin’ me nervous, y’know? I mean, what is it?” [YAKKLE is tapping the screen. He’s unsure of what to make of this signal.] “I just don’t wanna run into pirates. Again.”

MAZGBOB: [snort/gurgle sound] “On little ole’ BǎoBèi Om? In this quadrant? No way. There’s no profit in it!”

YAKKLE: [Clearly irritated] “Yeah, then what the shork are we doin’ here?!”

MAZGBOB: [smiles slyly and glances towards YAKKLE] “We’re lookin’ for scraps from Earth.”

2.5

YAKKLE: [mouth wide open, stunned.] “… you lying.”

MAZGBOB: [Points to the beacon on the panel between both YAKKLE and himself. It is producing messages in Chinese, Cantonese, English, French, Arabic, Hawaiian, Spanish, and others. The same message over and over: “S.O.S. - LIFE SUPPORT LOW”] “Galactic dictionary can’t translate any of this, let alone pinpoint their origin. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s Earthlings. Or what’s left of ‘em.”

PAGE THREE

3.1 - 3.4(5?)

[Let’s describe the vessel that the humans are in real quick. If the hunk-of-junk spaceship that MAZGBOB and YAKKLE jet around in is out of original trilogy Star Wars era, this is more like ALIEN. This means a few things: it’s very human. The panels are for humans, the seats are for humans, they’re not wacky or futuristic. Perhaps modern or streamlined, but everything is how you would want it in a spacecraft, as a human being. To really get an idea of this let’s start with the doors. YAKKLE and MAZGBOB are at them, but this shot, this first panel, is above view. You’re looking ABOVE the ship, DOWN at the scrappers and the Earthling vessel. The doors slide, but those don’t open from the outside and you sure as shit aren’t going to pry them. There’s a tube from the entrance that you go to a second set of doors (this would be the airlock). Picture WALL-E, Prometheus or Sphere here.) There’s benches for a human to sit ‘cause the process takes awhile, there are little air ducts and even little sprinkler-looking things sticking out. These actually will spray gasoline and pump in straight oxygen, and at the base (with an ignition switch from the other side) is a way to light the whole tube with fire and kill whatever is in there. This ship is long past broken and not going to use this any time soon. But, expect this type of security to show up again. The second set of doors would open and then you’d be in a second tube area. This sprays chemicals on you that clean you, sprays water on you, sprays you with hot air. Then a third set of sliding doors. This part of the tube is particularly smaller by the way, no benches. The deoxygenating/oxygenating process in the first 3/4 of the tube can take awhile so there’s some stretching space and benches. This second area of the tube does not have these luxuries. You’re in and out fast. Now you’re in the heart of the ship. This ship is pretty simple. You got the centrifuge-like collection of 12 stasis chambers in a circle, and around them are the panelings of the ship. There’s no desks, no chairs, but buttons. Buttons everywhere. Dials, pads, buttons, switches, screens, buttons, and did I mention buttons? NONE of them are lighting up. None but one.The Life Support button. There’s a button next to it that is glowing blue. THAT BUTTON has everything on power save mode. Once they hit it, everything can turn back on, including the stasis chamber timers. When the ship crashes, an pre-programmed initiative takes over and the power goes off, all power, except for life support. The stasis chambers are kept in state as well, (as they are part of life-support) and breathable oxygen (for Earthlings and most other galactic beings) is slowly funneled into the ship, in small bursts. 12 people would use it up in 60 days. Do the math to figure out how long one person has, I can’t. Won’t matter though, it’s never gong to be used.

See YAKKLE and MAZGBOB don’t do things gently. They aren’t going to knock around and look for ways to get in. They’re going to break in. They knock on the door, nothing. They bang the door and slide their hands around looking for buttons. Nothing. The view can transition out of above at this point, but the idea of above was so that you could see an x-ray example of what is in the ship. If this looks like it gives away too much when it’s drawn, we may re-do it with no x-ray sneak-peek. Michael, if doable, we can discuss changing these panels, or even this entire page, into a traveling navigation of the ship and hold it off until YAKKLE & MAZGBOB are actually inside.

So, anyway… MAZGBOB breaks out a laser cutter type gun we will call a FLAZER (flame laser). This is a blow torch but with a laser. He starts to slice a hole and immediately, security measures come on. A light (that was originally unbeknownst to them, somewhere above their heads) glows yellow and a sharp, high-pitched “EEET EEET EEET EEET!” is blaring through their space suits and into their ears. MAZGBOB: “Just help me git ‘dis door open.” [He has cut a large enough circular hole to push in and they do so.]

[This is a perspective from inside the craft as the two have pushed the “door” they just made all the way in. It resides on the ground and the two of them are rather stunned. ]

[They go through the first three quarters of the tube and arrive at the first airlock door. Cautiously looking around.]

[MAZGBOB opens the door and they go through the last leg of the tube and open the cabin bay doors. A sense of caution and wonder is painted on both of their faces. Think of it as being a sailor in a different country’s submarine. Like you’re a US navy officer and you’re inside a U-BOAT. You don’t get anything written on the walls, you don’t understand the dials all that well (though math is universal) and you’re pretty damn sure if you flinch the whole thing will sink. That’s the sort of feeling they both have right now.]

MAZGBOB: [opens the airlock door and looks in, smiling. YAKKLE is beside him, stupefied. They have just walked into a perfectly maintained, untouched, human storage center. And there are 6 perfect specimens right in front of them. The last six humans from Earth in the known Galaxy. Needless to say]

LYZARR, a Caspian who has been assigned a very special charge.]

Wat hebben Another Brick in The Wall, Daniël Arends, Jordan Peterson en Lao Zi gemeen? U krijgt even bedenktijd, terwijl ik me even een cappuccino ga maken.

Klaar?

Mijn bakje troost is al af dus ik zal het mooi even spoilen: respect.

Voor ik begin, zou ik graag hebben dat je dit onthoudt: 1979, het jaar waarin Pink Floyd Another Brick in The Wall uitbracht. Andiamo.

Het nummer van Pink Floyd schreeuwt om elk individu van de jeugd niet stuk voor stuk hetzelfde te maken; om ze geen mooie, afgelijnde, artificiële vorm te geven zodat ze mooi in hun hokje in de maatschappij passen. Maar ik wil het een beetje over een andere boeg gooien. Een stukje uit de lyrics van Another Brick in The Wall luidt: "Teachers leave them kids alone / Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!". Wat ik uit deze toch wel opmerkelijke zinnen kan halen, is dat ze in het jaar 1979 al vroegen om kinderen alleen te laten. Onthouden a.u.b.

Daniël Arends. Wat is hij toch een fantastische kerel om naar te kijken als je even je hersenen op nul wilt zetten. Als je hem niet kent, raad ik je zeker aan om hem op zijn minst op te zoeken op YouTube. In een van die video's dropte hij iets in deze aard: "Elkaar respecteren is niet realiseren dat er vlakken zijn waarop je verschilt en die vermijden; maar hierover een conversatie opbouwen". Bam. In het midden van een van zijn stand-up shows. Wat ik hieruit wil dat je onthoudt is de boodschap. "[...] maar hierover een conversatie opbouwen". Ongelooflijk belangrijk.

Jordan Peterson, beter bekend als dé transfoob van Canada, dé onruststoker op de University of Toronto en hét voorbeeld van rechts extremisme. En hier ben ik dan, met de blijde boodschap dat hij dit niet is. Of toch niet helemaal - ik zou hier graag over uitbreiden, zeer graag zelfs, maar ik zal het houden voor een andere post. Zijn nieuwe boek is letterlijk vandaag uitgekomen, wat dit een stuk interessanter zal maken. In het nieuwe boek staat het hoofdstuk "Do Not Bother Skateboarding Children", en wat ik uit de uitleg die hij over het boek heeft gegeven, versta, wilt hij dat er minder tussenbeide gekomen wordt tussen kinderen die met iets bezig zijn. "They are trying to master something in the face of danger", zegt Peterson. Hij wilt niet dat er niet tussenbeide gekomen wordt, omdat de kinderen leren om net dat ene stapje verder dan perfectie te zetten. Hijzelf legt het duizend keer beter uit dan ikzelf kan, dus ik zal een link achterlaten naar de video. ook een aanrader! Wat ik wil dat je hieruit onthoudt: kom niet tussenbeide tussen kinderen die door leerprocessen gaan.

"Een kom is het nuttigst wanneer ze leeg is", heeft Lao Zi blijkbaar ooit gezegd (dit is wel een losse vertaling heb ik gehoord). Net omdat er nog niets in de kom zit, maakt dat ze het meeste functies kan bekleden. Eens er iets in ligt, raakt ze veel van haar potentiële functies kwijt. Wat ik wil dat je onthoudt (en lees de zin zorgvuldig a.u.b., ik heb geen idee hoe ik het anders moet zeggen): een niet-onbeschreven blad heeft minder (potentiële) functies dan een onbeschreven blad.

Hier zijn we dan. Ben je nog mee? Dan stel ik voor dat we aan het serieuze werk beginnen: verbinden van de punten die ik probeer te maken, en het op één noemer brengen.

Another Brick in The Wall en Jordan Peterson kan je gemakkelijk linken: laat kinderen alleen, laat ze hun eigen ding doen; laat ze zelf deze wereld ontdekken. Respecteer dat het soms het beste is om zaken die je nauw aan het hart liggen, hun eigen gang te laten gaan. Kinderen zijn niet slim, niet wijs, ze weten nog niets: helemaal waar. Maar welk effect heeft indoctrinatie als "Pas op, de wereld is een slechte plaats, vertrouw niemand,..."? Respecteer dat ze dit zelf moeten ontdekken, ook al doet het pijn om hen fouten te zien maken. Respecteer de onuitgesproken wens van kinderen. En van ouders.

Daniël Arends. Een iets moeilijkere opgave, maar ik ga mijn best doen. Arends zegt dat respect geen respect meer is, maar iets dat ik op dit moment enkel kan beschrijven "beleefd negeren". Het klinkt misschien als een subtiel verschil, maar volgens mij is dit het niet. Door de diversiteit van onze maatschappij niet te erkennen, maar te negeren, respecteren we elkaar niet. We negeren elkaar. Je kan wel zeggen "ja maar ik heb vrienden van dit geloof en we respecteren elkaar" maar hoe goed ken je de verschillen tussen wat jij gelooft en wat zei geloven. Het hoeft zelfs niet over religie te gaan. Politiek zelfs. Denk de discussies met beledigingen weg, en wat er vaak overblijft zijn meningen die respectvol verschillen van elkaar, maar meningen waarbij geen toenadering gezocht wordt. Meningen die naast elkaar bestaan, maar elkaar niet respecteren.

En dan een wandeling in het park: Lao Zi. Ik zei: een niet-onbeschreven blad heeft minder (potentiële) functies dan een onbeschreven blad. Je kan niet verwachten dat een persoon met bepaalde waarden en normen zal handelen zoals jij dat wilt en ook - soms onbewust - verwacht. Je moet kunnen respecteren dat andere mensen anders zullen handelen.

Dit is slechts mijn mening; de mening van een 18 jaar oud jochie. Maar ik denk dat als we even heel eerlijk zijn, zo eerlijk dat het bijna pijn doet, we realiseren dat het respect inderdaad soms ver te zoeken is.

Before I start, I'd like you to remember this: 1979, the year Another Brick in The Wall by Pink Floyd was released. Andiamo.

Pink Floyd's number screams for individuality in the youth, that they don't become the same nice, well-rounded, artificial form so they fit perfectly in the box that society wants them to fit in. But I want to talk about something else in that song. A part of the lyrics is: "Teachers leave them kids alone / Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!". What I can make up from this part is that already back in 1979, they asked to leave the kids alone. Please remember this.

Daniël Arends. He's a fantastic guy to watch when you just want to shut down your brain for a moment. If you don't know him, and you understand some Dutch, I really recommend you watch some of his videos on YouTube! In one of his videos, he said something like "Respecting each other is not realising that there are different aspects between you and other people and ignore those aspects, but it is starting a conversation about this". Bam. In the middle of a stand-up comedy show. What I want you to remember is this message: "[...] but it is starting a conversation about this". Unbelievably important.

Jordan Peterson, a.k.a. THE transphobe of Canada, THE troublemaker at the University of Toronto and THE example of alt-right. And yet here I am, with the message that he is not. Or not completely - I'd love to go on about this, but I'll keep this for another post. His new book just got released at the day of writing, which will make this a whole lot more interesting. In his new book, there's the chapter "Do Not Bother Skateboarding Children", and from what I understand from his explanation of this chapter; he wants less interference between children that are doing something. "They are trying to master something in the face of fear", says Peterson. He doesn't want interference, because those children are learning to take that one step beyond perfection. Peterson himself explains this far better in the video, so I'll leave a link to it. I really suggest you go check it out, it is very interesting! What I want you to remember here is: don't interfere with children who are learning lessons for life.

"A bowl is most useful when it is empty", said Lao Zi. This is a very free translation, I have heard. Just because there is nothing in the bowl, makes it most useful. Once there's something in it, it loses an amount of (potential) functions. What I want you to remember from this is (and please read carefully, I have no idea how to express it more clearly): a non-blank page has less (potential) functions than a blank page.

Now here we are. Are you still with me? Then I suggest we start the real work: connecting the dots until we reach one collective point.

Another Brick in The Wall and Jordan Peterson are fairly easy to connect: leave children alone, let them do their own thing; let them explore this world by themselves. Respect that sometimes it is better to let things that you love dearly, make their own path, their own story, their own purpose and thoughts. Children aren't smart, not wise, they know nothing: completely true. But what effect has indoctrination like "Watch out, the world is a very very bad place, trust nobody,..."? Respect that they have to discover this themselves, even though it hurts to see them make these mistakes. Respect their unspoken wish. And that of parents.

Daniël Arends. A more difficult one, but I'm going to try my best. Arends says that respect isn't respect anymore, it has become something I can only describe as "ignoring politely". Maybe it sounds the same, but actually it something different. Because we ignore the diversity in this society, and we don't acknowledge it, we don't respect each other. You can say "Yeah but I have friends who have this and this faith and we respect each other" but how well do you know the differences between what you believe and what they believe. It doesn't necessarily have to be religion; it can perfectly be politics as well. Let's ignore the discussions with unnecessary insults, and what remains are mostly respectful opinions of different people and different stances. Different opinions, but no approach of other opinions. Opinions that exist next to each other, but don't respect each other.

And then the real hike in the park: Lao Zi. I said: a non-blank page has less (potential) functions than a blank page. You can't expect a person with different beliefs and different values to act like you want and also - mostly unconsciously - expect them to act. You have to respect that other people will act differently than you act in this world.

This is only my opinion; that of an 18 years old kid. But I think that if we are very honest for a minute; so honest that it almost hurts, we realise that real respect is indeed far away.
