I never expected the interior of this 1986 traditional brick home in Louisville, Kentucky. 3bds, 3ba, $683,500.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Never did I expect to see open concept, ultra modern acrylic railings, vaulted ceilings, skylights, a modern fireplace and the currently popular gray everywhere.
Tumblr media
New facade on this ultra modern fireplace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at the doors above the dining area. There has to have been a balcony there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gray galley kitchen. I do like the cabinetry and backsplash, though, especially the wine rack.
Tumblr media
There's a small eating area off the kitchen.
Tumblr media
View from the stairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Powder room on the upper landing. Look a the cutouts on the pedestal sink.
Tumblr media
It looks like there's a modernized fireplace down in the left corner of the photo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It appears that the primary and secondary bedrooms share a walk-in closet, plus it also has its own closet.
Tumblr media
One of 3 baths is a shower room.
Tumblr media
Here's an interesting use of an odd-shaped space.
Tumblr media
The basement is partially finished and includes a laundry room.
Tumblr media
Small patio with a yard beyond.

A gate and path that probably leads to the garage.

VINTAGE, RETRO & ANTIQUE GIFTS
You might want to think about home decor gifts for someone in your family or a friend who is moving into their first house or getting married. Whatever your budget, you are sure to be able to discover something that will make the ideal gift among the vast selection of modern or traditional home accessories available.
Finding out if your friend's new home is a modern structure or an older structure is the first thing you should do after deciding how much money you want to spend, as you want to get a gift that will complement their home's decor. A vintage vase might not fit well with an ultra-modern environment. If you are close with them, you may have have an idea of the style of home décor they want, or if a wedding is soon, they may have already registered their wish list at a retailer.
A perennially popular gift idea is tableware. Find out if the pair has any specific flatware or dinnerware collections. There are some gorgeous tablecloth patterns with matching napkins available, or how about a gorgeous set of sterling silver napkin rings? A trendy wall-mounted wine rack gives a distinctive touch to a modern kitchen, and stainless steel small appliances are also popular. If you're feeling generous, add a variety of wines as well.
Of course, you are not required to limit your gift-giving to kitchen-themed home decor. There are numerous items needed in each room while setting up a home for the first time. You may acquire a lovely wall mirror in the Venetian style, a framed print, or a useful bedding set for the bedroom. Just make sure to check whether they offer a king or queen size bed before you make your order.
When considering home decor presents, bathroom accessories are sometimes overlooked. A lovely set of fluffy, clean white towels is always welcome. Bath towels made of sustainable bamboo that are good for the environment would make a thoughtful present for both the recipient and the environment.
How about a striking and distinctive wall clock for the living room? As high-tech as solar clocks appear to be, they also have no batteries or wiring to consider. Or maybe a sizable framed artwork or poster to display over the mantel. However, you could check out your local auctions and art galleries if you want to locate something truly unique that is not available in the neighbourhood stores. Genuine antique pieces and contemporary goods for the home can be found at antique and estate auctions for costs far lower than you might expect to pay in a store. Some auctions focus on retro, vintage, or antique items, while others cover the entire spectrum. Others specialise on current and modern design.
A mantel clock is the only ornament that seems as spectacular on a fireplace. These clocks make a stylish addition to any workplace or table and look well anyplace in the house. Mantel clocks have been among the most popular types of clocks for centuries. Both the upper and working classes like their use because of their practicality, affordability, and ornamental value. Around the middle of the 18th century, France manufactured the first mantel clocks. Their popularity quickly expanded throughout Europe to Britain, where they are still quite in style today.
There is a wide variety of vintage, retro & antique gifts available to match any interior design style and price range. A vintage clock is not only a wise investment, but also a lovely present that will be enjoyed and cherished for many generations.

What To Consider When Buying Contemporary Furniture For Sale
Tumblr media
No house is complete without well-chosen, comfortable furniture, which expresses the homeowners' style and emphasizes the significance of comfort. Some components are created primarily for aesthetics, while others are designed for aesthetics and usefulness. In a house, it's vital to choose the last option. Knowing what sorts of contemporary furniture for sale are available can assist you in making your decision. In addition to being attractive and comfortable, it must blend in with the interior design you've chosen. So, if you've chosen a traditional design, an ultra-modern piece will clash with the environment unless it's harmonized in an eclectic manner. Still, a antique piece would stand out sharply against classical décor.
Seating
· Sofas, chairs, ottomans, and divans are examples of seating components. They may all wear a variety of styles. Wing chairs, for example, are traditional because they were popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. They're known for their wing-like side panels and are still in demand but not always in the classic shape. Contemporary furniture designers have updated certain types to meet more current decor.
· Examine the space before purchasing seating to determine whether a visual block may be avoided. Divans and benches are ideal for placing in front of windows and rear doors so you can enjoy the view while conserving space.
· Sofas and club chairs are ideal for creating a welcoming atmosphere. They can be used as two-seaters in small rooms, and in large spaces, you can plan two separate seating areas that flow into each other. One side might be more traditional, while the other could be diverse in style with contemporary design.
Tables
· Tables come in various shapes and sizes, including end, coffee, and console. The first is essential for storing beverages, books, phones, and other small items. Coffee tables and console tables situated behind sofas are a must-have in the living area if space allows. Coffee and console tables aren't necessary when designing the bedroom, but nightstands are.
· A rectangle or oval table will break up the space in a large dining room, whereas square or round tables should be used in smaller areas. There are many different styles to select from, so there's no need to pick a set. A simple round wooden table surrounded by clear acrylic chairs, for example, is a visually appealing yet space-saving option.
Storage
· Storage items are not only functional but also attractive. There is a wide variety of options, but cabinets, bookshelves, shelves, and chests are the most common. If you don't need that nicely carved wine rack, don't buy it.
· The focus should be on comfort and livability, regardless of the design you pick. Because you'll be spending a lot of money on furniture and won't be replacing it anytime soon, it should last a long time. Keep a clear line of travel patterns in mind, especially in tiny spaces where even a few pieces of furniture may take up a lot of space.
The bottom line
If you're unsure which furniture style to choose, go with contemporary furniture for sale, which is everlasting. They're everywhere, and prices range from low to highly expensive.

RECIPE: Dill dip with potato chips (from Getaway by Renee Erickson)
Dips are the best, and not just because I like any occasion to serve potato chips. Dips are just so easy to eat, and you can focus on one big flavor: Here, it’s a garden’s worth of dill. You can mix the body of the dip a day in advance, but make sure the dill is freshly chopped and swirled in at the last minute. You need it to be boldly fragrant. If you want to make the dish a little fancier, go nuts and spoon some salmon caviar on top.
Serves 6 to 8
1 cup (240 ml) European-style whole-milk yogurt, such as Straus
1 cup (240 ml) sour cream
1 small garlic clove, grated
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more to garnish
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
½ cup (25 g) fresh dill fronds, minced, plus a few whole fronds or flowers, to garnish
Potato chips (see below to make your own, or pick a favorite brand), to serve
In a medium bowl, combine the yogurt, sour cream, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt and pepper. Just before serving, fold in the dill. Place in a serving dish and garnish with olive oil and more dill or dill flowers. This dip will taste best the day it is made.
RECIPE: Salt and pepper potato chips
We considered calling this book “All About Chips” or “Renee Loves Chips.” I eat them everywhere I travel, from Nashville to Normandy. Every now and then it’s fun to make them at home. They are surprisingly simple to make—as long as you don’t crowd that pan!—and frying them is a great little bit of theater for a gathering. Fresh fried food makes everyone absurdly excited, and for good reason. As much as I love a good bag of chips, a slightly warm chip is just dreamy. In this recipe, we add vinegar to the soaking water for salt ’n’ vinegar flavor and to prevent the potato slices from browning. Serve with a favorite dip or just with a glass of sparkling wine!
Serves 8 to 10
1 cup (240 ml) distilled vinegar
6 russet potatoes, skin on
About 8 cups (1.9 L) neutral oil, such as canola or grapeseed oil, for frying
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
In a large bowl, whisk together 8 cups (1.9 L) water and the vinegar.
Using a mandolin, slice the potatoes as thinly as possible, placing the slices in the vinegar water as you work. After a while, the screw can loosen on the mandolin, so make sure to keep adjusting the blade to keep the slices translucent. Discard the ends of the potatoes (or save them for another use).
Drain the potatoes. Place a layer of paper towels on a baking sheet and lay a single layer of potato slices across it. Place another paper towel layer on top and repeat for about half the potato slices. Use a second baking sheet to layer the second half of the slices with paper towels.
When ready to cook, have ready a spider or a slotted spoon and a wire cooling rack set atop a baking sheet. In a heavy 4-quart (4.5-liter) saucepan or Dutch oven, heat 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop in a generous handful of potato slices, stirring to separate them. Fry, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are light golden brown, about 5 minutes. Remember, this is a long percolating process, not a sudden one. Remove the chips to the prepared rack and season with salt and pepper right away.
Make sure the oil temperature comes back to 350°F (175°C), adjusting heat if necessary, before repeating with the next batch. Continue until all the potatoes are fried. These taste best the day they are cooked.

______
After a little bit of bribery, Rafe convinced Sophie to come with him to a charity event he was representing his dad at in Columbus. Once Rafe had committed to Ohio State, Ward immediately began making contacts in Ohio and broadening his impact, putting Rafe to work - and still keeping him tied to the family business as much as he could. To convince Sophie just a little bit more (even though it wasn’t necessary, she’d stand by his side no matter what), he got the help of Allie and Julia to pick out a new dress for her and surprise her with it the morning of the event.
Once she learned that Ward wouldn’t be attending, she was a lot more excited for the event. Rafe made a show out of picking her up, coming to the door with flowers in hand. Word moved fast in the sorority house and by the time Sophie made it downstairs, there was a whole discussion in the groupchat about who the cute boy was wearing the suit and waiting outside their door. When she came down in the dress, red lipstick and all, he whistled, motioning for her to twirl.
Sophie grinned and rolled her eyes but spun for him. “Are those for me?”
He handed her the flowers, beaming. “Yes they are. You look incredible, baby.”
She blushed, shaking her head. “You don’t look so bad yourself. Here, I’ll be right back, let me run these up to my room.” She accepted the flowers and turned on her heel, striding upstairs.
Allie and Julia came back downstairs with Sophie, wearing matching grins. “Clean up nice, Cameron!” Julia called out with a smirk. “Yeah, do you have friends that'll buy us nice dresses and take us to galas?” Allie chimed in, laughing when Sophie gave her a shove on the way past.
“Ah, this one already tried that. Didn’t end well.” Rafe teased, sending a pointed glance to Julia. Julia’s cheeks heated almost instantly and she flipped him off, shaking her head. “You said we’d never speak of it again.”
“Pretty sure that was my rule.” Sophie interrupted, taking Rafe’s arm. “Leave my boyfriend -”
“Sugar daddy -”
“Oh my god, I told you to quit that -”
Allie cut both the girls off with a pointed “hey!” and Sophie rolled her eyes. “Julia, hush, Sophie, you go have fun. Snag us a bottle of fancy alc.”
Rafe laughed and waved goodbye to the girls, escorting Sophie out. “They’re fun. I’m glad they’re your friends.” She shook her head, laughing. “Sometimes I am not. Hey.”
“Hey.”
“You did a good job on the dress, I’m impressed.”
He smirked and helped her into the car, then ran one hand up her thigh. “I have to admit, I picked it out more for the slit up the leg than anything.” Sophie giggled and tugged on his tie to pull him in for a kiss. “Think we can sneak away early tonight?”
“We have my room available from...” He paused, thinking. “Eleven to midnight. The gala ends at ten thirty.”
She laughed, messing with the radio once he got in to drive. “We’re really scheduling sex like an old married couple?”
“We won’t have to when we’re old and married.” Rafe responded without missing a beat, then instantly realized and blushed, fumbling with his words. “Uh, I mean. Um. Yes, uh, but only because we have the roommates - I mean, next year, we’ll both have our own rooms, so -”
She cut him off, amused by his embarrassment. “I’m just messing with you. Besides, that’ll give you more than enough time to finish.”
“Sophie! Take it back. You know that’s not true.” He pushed her shoulder playfully, shaking his head.
“It was true after your formal.” She smirked, loving the way he squirmed when she teased him. The rest of the short ride was spent like that, with mindless flirting and teasing about sex, until he had to make her find directions to the venue.
When he parked, she moved to get out right away, but he reached over and grabbed her hand before she could get out of the car. “Hey, wait. Uh, I should maybe warn you -”
She raised her eyebrows. “Now you decide to warn me about something? Right before we’re going in?”
Rafe winced. “I love you?”
“Uh huh. Not the time. What do I need to know?”
He spoke quickly, knowing he was in trouble. “My ex will be there and she’s liked every picture of us together on Instagram and texted me that she was excited to see me this weekend.”
Sophie sat back in the seat, taking a deep breath as she processed the information. “Who? And you didn’t tell me this, why?”
“Brooklyn. And, uh...that’s a good question, Sophie. You know, I really appreciate your critical thinking skills, have I ever told you that?” He gave her a half-smile, trying to cheer her up without success.
“Rafe?”
“Yeah?”
“Please shut up.”
“Yes ma’am.”
She rolled her eyes and got out with him, taking his arm when he offered it as they walked inside. Sophie didn’t ask much about his previous relationships, just noted when he brought it up infrequently and tried to reassure him that whatever his ex had told him, they were wrong and he was a great boyfriend. She only regretted not pushing more about it now, when she was about to meet the girl.
It was almost amusing watching him go into entertaining mode the second they stepped in and the first person came over to greet him - it was the same presence he commanded at parties, just remarkably more professional in that environment. After a solid hour of Sophie just standing by while Rafe made polite small talk, dinner was announced and they glanced over the table arrangements to find their spot.
“Oh, fuck.” Rafe mumbled under his breath, spying his ex’s name featured right next to his and Sophie’s. She noticed her name was written as Sophie Cameron, but decided to hold her tongue on the mix up.
She furrowed her brow, taking his hand. “It’s a minor thing, Rafe, I’m sure it was a simple mistake -”
“What? No, no.” He shook his head and pointed to the name Brooklyn Rowley at the head of the table. She nodded once in recognition, pretty sure her heart was sinking to her stomach at the moment. “Oh.”
“You know what? It’ll be fine. It’ll be fine, we won’t even have to talk to her, there’s fourteen people at the table. It’ll be fine.” He repeated, trying to reassure himself more than Sophie.
She let him lead her to the table - that was already full except for their two seats. Brooklyn practically jumped up out of her seat when she saw Rafe, grinning ear to ear. “Oh my god, Rafe, hi! Here, come sit next to me.”
Rafe gave Brooklyn an awkward side hug in response to her attempted bear hug, pulling out Sophie’s chair before taking his seat. “Brooklyn, this is my -”
“I’m Sophie.” She interrupted, giving the girl one of the fakest smiles Rafe had ever seen. “His girlfriend. It’s nice to meet you.” She reached across Rafe, extending her arm to shake Brooklyn’s hand.
Brooklyn pretended to be surprised as she shook Sophie’s hand. “Oh!” She elbowed Rafe teasingly. “She’s cute, Rafe. Didn’t think you’d jump into a relationship again, after.” She gave him a sly smile and touched his arm. “Well, you know.”
Sophie steeled herself, pouring herself a generous glass of wine from the table. Rafe gave a nervous chuckle and nudged his foot against Sophie’s under the table. “We’ve been together for four months now, there’s no jumping into anything. I’ve known Sophie since we were at least fourteen.”
“So you didn’t meet at school? Sophia, do you go to Ohio State with us too?” Brooklyn’s eyes flitted to Sophie’s fingers curled tight around the wine glass, asking the question right when she took a sip.
“No, we met in high school. We’re both from the Outer Banks.” Sophie explained, ultra-polite. “But I go to Ohio State, we just happened to end up here together.”
“Right, right. So you’ve met the family and everything. Has he taken you to the Bahamas house yet? The view is gorgeous.” Brooklyn grinned, touching Rafe’s hand again.
Sophie resisted from gritting her teeth as Rafe gave her a pained glance. “Um, no. I haven’t been.” She tried racking her brain and vaguely remembered a brief mention of the Bahamas from Sarah talking about their summers, but didn’t realize there was a whole vacation home involved.
“Oh! That’s funny. He took me after, like, two months.” She paused for a second to look Sophie over, pleased her words were clearly taking effect. “But it’s like, more of a summer house anyways, so the timing must not have worked out with you two yet. I mean, we went over Christmas break that one time, but -”
“We stayed home for Christmas this year.” Rafe interrupted, resting his hand on Sophie’s thigh under the table, but in clear view of Brooklyn’s line of sight.
Brooklyn nodded, not backing down. “So, Sophia -”
“It’s Sophie. But go on.” Sophie shot back an equally tense smile, feigning interest.
“Right, sorry, Sophie. There’s this gorgeous little private beach you can go to, you should go. If he ever takes you.” She touched Rafe’s shoulder and Sophie bit the inside of her cheek hard, feeling ready to snap. “Oh my god, Rafe, remember when we were drunk and we almost got caught on the beach?” She giggled. “Good thing we weren’t actually making love that time, but my top was off and everything, it was so embarrassing.”
“Sounds like it.” Sophie replied dryly, stepping on Rafe’s foot with her heel under the table. As much as she wanted to gag hearing about the two of them ‘making love,’ she just swallowed another big sip of wine instead. He let out a pained, quiet groan and Brooklyn frowned. “Is something wrong?”
“No, no, I’m fine. Just, uh,” he gestured to their empty plates as they waited to be served. “Hungry, I guess. Hey, you’ve been to Barcelona, right? Sophie’s studying abroad there this summer, I’m really proud of her.” Rafe squeezed her thigh under the table, and Sophie relaxed a tiny bit.
Brooklyn shook her head. “No, I’ve been to Madrid. Spain is like, so much better in the off season. But that’s so exciting! What are you doing, how long will you be gone for?”
“It’s through my architecture major. I’m sure I’ll visit Madrid too at one point.” Sophie reached out and straightened Rafe’s collar, just for an excuse to touch him and stake some possession. “It’s for three months.”
“Three months...” She repeated, turning her attention to Rafe. “Are you going to be able to handle that?” Brooklyn laughed, glancing back at Sophie. “He was always so needy, isn’t he?”
“No. I haven’t noticed. We have a healthy relationship.” Sophie replied pointedly before Rafe could open his mouth.
“Right, of course.” Brooklyn gave her a grin, like she was sharing a secret with Sophie and Rafe wasn’t literally in between them. “Give him time, it’ll show. You said you’ve only been together for four months, right? That’s like, so soon in the relationship. Like, Rafe and I -”
Thankfully, the servers came to their table and interrupted them just as she was about to finish her sentence, and Sophie visibly relaxed as the speaker for the night started talking. Rafe leaned over and murmured in her ear. “I’m sorry, Soph.”
She just gave him a tight smile in response and turned her head, kissing his cheek chastely. Thankfully, the rest of the dinner was occupied by the guest speakers and left little room for side conversation, until the dance floor was opened up after the dessert. Sophie had limited herself to the single heavy pour of wine, while Brooklyn hadn’t held back and was clearly tipsy.
When the three stood after the last guest speaker, Brooklyn leaned into Rafe, giggling as she steadied herself on his extended arm. “Oops! Sorry. I’m kind of a lightweight.”
“Oh, I used to not be able to hold my liquor. In high school, I think.” Sophie couldn’t resist the dig and Rafe sent her a warning glance, taking her hand once Brooklyn was upright.
“Not all of us got blacked out at high school parties, Sophia, some of us had priorities.” Brooklyn told her pointedly, and Sophie only rolled her eyes. “But you’re in one of those trashy sororities, right? So I guess it makes sense.”
“Brooklyn, watch it.” Rafe cut in, sliding his arm protectively around Sophie’s waist. Sophie shook her head, keeping her eyes locked on Brooklyn’s. “It’s fine.”
“You could at least not be so obvious.” Brooklyn stated, taking a sip of her drink.
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Sorry, it’s just.” Brooklyn gestured to Sophie, to her dress and shoes, and lowered her voice conspiratorially. “There’s more to like about him than just the money, you know? Open your eyes, Rafe, you’re being used.”
Sophie’s jaw dropped and she took a quick step forward without even processing all the words that Brooklyn had said. “I can’t believe -” Rafe grabbed her around the waist and stepped in front of her, in between her and Brooklyn. “Sophie, don’t.”
She glanced over Rafe’s shoulder at Brooklyn and her smug smile, then looked back to him with a pleading look. He shook his head, almost imperceptibly. “Meet me out in the hallway?”
She only relented when he kissed her quickly, trying to calm her down more. Sophie reached into the inside of his suit jacket and pulled out the keys, placing a possessive hand on his chest for a steadying breath. “Fine. I’ll be in the car.”
“Aw, you’re leaving? It was nice to meet you, Sophia!” Brooklyn shot her a grin and Sophie grit her teeth, giving Rafe another look again, but he turned her away with both hands on her shoulders. “Ignore her. I’ll talk to her. Go.”
He kept his eyes trained on her until she left the dining room, then turned to Brooklyn, his tone icy but quiet so they didn’t make a scene. “What the fuck was that?”
“Come on, Rafe.” Brooklyn shrunk back a little, pouting. “You’re telling me that’s all real? Seriously? She’s so stiff.”
“Yeah, because she was trying to be polite while you were nothing but rude all evening.” He shot back, arms folded. “I thought you could be civil and finally mature about this. I guess I was wrong.”
“You’re not serious.” She rolled her eyes and reached out for Rafe, only for him to flinch away from her touch. “I mean, look at her. You think she compares to me?”
“No. She’s miles beyond you. She’s so damn clever, she’s fucking gorgeous and she’s loyal as hell.” He paused, a wave of hurt flashing across his face. “Unlike you.”
That seemed to break Brooklyn and her shoulders slumped, face dropping. “Rafe, I...I didn’t mean to hurt you -”
“Am I wrong?”
“He initiated it -”
“Am. I. Wrong.” He spoke evenly, nose flaring.
She sighed quietly. “No.”
“Goddamn it.” Rafe exhaled, nodding once. “Okay. That’s all I needed. Don’t text me again.” He turned sharply on his heel, ignoring her call after him. He strode out to the parking lot and got in his car where Sophie waited in the passenger seat, letting the door slam shut behind him.
Sophie was about to start on an impassioned rant until she noticed his set jaw and tense shoulders, and she reached over, combing one hand through the hair at the nape of his neck. “You alright?”
“I love you. So fucking much. You know that?” He asked after a moment, pressing his head back into her palm.
“I do. I love you too.” She hesitated. “You don’t believe any of that, what she said. Right?”
“No, god, of course not.” He cracked a grin at her. “If you were with me for my money you’d have let me pay for your jewelry tonight.”
Sophie rolled her eyes, tugging teasingly on his hair. “I have perfectly fine jewelry, it’s ridiculous, not to mention unethical, for you to buy me a new something for every event -”
“I know, I know.” He laughed and leaned over to catch her lips in a kiss. “I’m kidding, baby. You look stunning, no matter what you’re in.”
“I could have taken her, you know.” She squared up in her seat and pretended to punch the air. “Two hits and she’d be out.”
Rafe shook his head, grinning. “I know, that’s exactly why I held you back. Remind me to not get on your bad side.”
“You’ve already been on my bad side.” She informed him, lightly punching his arm. “I think you’re in the clear for a while.”
“Just a while?”
“Yeah, I gotta keep you on your toes.” She paused, trying to gather her thoughts. “Is she - um, can I - do you have her blocked? I don’t want to overstep, but -”
“No, that’s a good idea. Go ahead.” He handed her his phone once it was unlocked, starting the car and backing out. “All of that was so fucked up, what she said.” He scowled. “And I promise I’ll take you to the Bahamas, it just felt early - I mean, I was nervous to even bring you to the Christmas party, much less family vacation, that’s unnecessary pressure for you -”
“You’re fine, Rafe.” She rested a reassuring hand on his thigh. “I promise. I don’t care about that. She was just trying to get under my skin.”
“I’m really sorry, I promise. I didn’t think she’d be that way or I would have just gone and switched tables with someone.” He frowned and stretched his arm out, resting it across the back of her seat. “She was so touchy.“
“I would have done something if she touched you again.” Sophie scowled, letting her head fall back against his arm. “I don’t like that.”
“Yeah? You jealous?” He resisted a grin, loving the way her nose scrunched up in the scowl.
“No, I know you’re mine.” She slid her hand up his thigh, squeezing once. “I just don’t like other girls flirting with you. It doesn’t feel right.”
“You’re the only one I want flirting with me for a long time.” He reassured her, sending her a smile.
Sophie shoved his shoulder with a grin, shaking her head. “Cheesy.”
“Yeah, and you love it.”
“You know I do.”

An Ultra-Modern Beverly Hills Mansion for 1,000 Bitcoins or $65Million
Today’s bitcoin valuation in US dollars topped $62,000, up $3,000 from just a few weeks ago. If you’ve been deep into the crypto craze and amassing bitcoin, all you need is about 1,000 of them to buy this stunning Beverly Hills estate. Or you could just use regular old coin—$65 million worth.
The property is part of a recent uptick seen in real estate owners willing to take either dollars or cryptocurrency for the purchase of a home.
This particular slice of Southern California heaven is over-the-top—but still tasteful—in nearly every thoughtful detail, from the architecture to the sleek Italian millwork and cabinetry. The entrance features a floating slab of marble, which is a hint to some of the other highlights built into the home, such as a 20-foot stone wall of water and a cantilevered primary suite that feels like it’s floating over the pool.
The marble-and-stone theme continues throughout the seven-bedroom mansion. A massive custom island for the bar is book-matched to look like a single block of stone. The island and the beautiful rack behind it both have integrated LED lighting to put the spot on singular bottles and set the mood. In the primary suite’s bathrooms, a Pibamarmi tub is made with Nero Marquina marble and the shower is lined with book-matched Calacatta marble. You’ll find more of it gracing the fireplace in the great room, as well as the floor of the stunning wine cellar, which holds 2,000 bottles.
The main kitchen—yep, there’s more than one—features a 14-foot leathered-stone island imported from Italy and floor-to-ceiling cabinets from Dada. All appliances are by Gaggenau. The table—included—has a custom top from Poliform and a hanging cube light fixture by Baxter. The space also connects to a casual hangout room with a fireplace and modular sofa by B&B Italia. Sliding glass pocket doors retract and open on to the terrace.
The second butler’s kitchen can be accessed by staff through the garage and is made for major entertaining with its dual Viking stoves that have a total of 16 burners. Concrete finishes give it a more commercial feel, but the fittings are still all ultra-luxe, with cabinets again by Dada and Gaggenau appliances.
The primary bedroom suite is just off the great room and includes a den and a private 400-square-foot terrace, offering some of the estate’s best views of the Los Angeles cityscape, especially from the hot tub. Heaters are integrated into the cantilevered roof. Dual primary bathrooms include a shower spacious enough for a dozen, and that incredible marble tub, which weighs more than a ton. The vast walk-in closet is a showstopper. The cabinets and island are by Rimadesio and Molteni, with a bench by Kelly Wearstler. Natural light from a skylight permeates what is often a dark space in many other homes.
A VIP bedroom and the remaining five bedrooms are all en suite.
One of our other favorite highlights to this residence—called Wallace Ridge and located in the Trousdale section of Beverly Hills—is the Zen-like glassed-in courtyard where a single olive tree stands like a sculpture against the background of a stone wall. The 150-year old tree was imported from Tuscany. Water cascades down the marble wall, and the glass doors open to let in breezes and the soothing sound of the waterfall.
The house also includes a home office plus a fitness studio already kitted out with a Technogym Kinesis wall and two Peloton bikes. The spa has a massage space as well as a sauna and a steam room. The screening room seats up to 24 on gorgeous plush sofas and has a 220-inch wide screen and a Dolby Atmos sound system. Last but certainly not least is the loungy entertainment room, where the bar sets the vibe and the massive media wall’s four screens can tee up four different sports games at once or all play together for a movie.
From there, sliding doors lead out to the pool deck, where a swimming lane that’s half-Olympic-sized is integrated into the infinity-edge pool. The listing is held by Michael Chen and Aaron Kirman of the Aaron Kirman Group at Compass.

Assumptions 6
“Tadaaaa!” He uncovered my eyes and I let them adjust to the sunshine, blinking a few times until the scene came into focus. It was a beautiful house, white with grey shutters and a dark green door. The property was wrapped in a white picket fence and he took my hand as he reached around to unlatch it. A stone walkway cut through lush green grass and he led me up to the front door. “What do you think?”
“I- I don’t know what to say.”
“Wait until you see the inside.” We stepped into the foyer of what was quickly becoming my dream home, all clean lines and creamy white walls. The whole place was furnished with an eclectic mix of overstuffed couches and armchairs with ultra-modern accents and my heart began to race as we wandered through the ground floor.
“And the kitchen, Nora wait until you see the kitchen.” I followed him and set my purse on the counter as I took it all in. He opened every cabinet, every appliance he could put his hands on, before turning to look at me. “Well?”
I opened my mouth to speak but could only nod, emotions getting the best of me for the second time today. Either he didn’t notice or he was polite enough not to say anything because he simply took my hand in his and pulled me into another room.
“Your very own coffee bar!” I ran my fingers over the stainless steel counter top and the rack for mugs and supplies. It felt dreamy and divine and he stepped up behind me, wrapping an arm around me. “Do you like it?”
“It’s... incredible.”
“There’s more.”
“More? Brass, I don’t-” I stopped when he pulled open the curtains in the dining room, revealing two sliding glass doors. Behind them sat the wide expanse of a backyard. Two wicker chairs sat on either side of a fire pit under a pergola laced with string lights. Dark green grass lined a hot tub and a pool with crystal clear water lapping at the sides.
“It’s a lap pool, so you can swim during the summer, and it’s heated for when it gets cold.” He slid the door open and we stepped into the cool air, walking around the side of the house to a detached garage. There was a staircase in the corner and he stepped aside so I could climb up. “And I thought this could be your studio-slash-office.”
I took it all in; the wall of windows to take advantage of the view, the dark grey hardwood and pale purple walls, the simple desk set up in one corner. I could see myself setting up in here, creating some of my best work before slinking back into the house at the break of dawn and crawling into bed with Brass.
Another window faced the patio of the house and I pictured us spending an evening by the fire, curled up together in one chair with a glass of wine. My chest tightened a bit and I turned to find him leaning against the railing, watching me.
“So?”
“Brass, I don’t know what to say.”
“Say you love it.” He crossed the room and wrapped me in his arms, pressing his lips to my cheek for a chaste kiss. “Because I bought it.”
“You what?”
“I bought it.” The proud grin on his face told me he wasn’t joking and my stomach tightened with guilt. He was looking down at me, waiting for a response, and his brow furrowed with concern. “What’s wrong? What’s the matter?”
“Nothing, I- I’m just a bit shocked. You bought a house?” He nodded and I pressed on, unable to stop myself. “For what, Brass?”
“For us. My contract is longer than the one I signed in Edmonton. I’m not going to rent an apartment for four years. I thought you’d be happy.”
“I didn’t even know you were looking at houses.”
“I sent you the ones I liked, specifically this one. You said you’d check them out.”
“Well I’ve been busy.” I felt out of control, like a cornered animal. Picking a fight was the worst way to go but I couldn’t seem to get myself to stop. He looked so hurt and I couldn’t get myself to look at him so I turned away
“So you don’t like it?”
“I just wish you’d asked me. Talked to me first.” I gestured to the property around us as I scrambled for an excuse. “I can’t afford something like this.”
“You don’t have to, Nora. I’ve got it.”
“Laurent, I can’t do that. I can’t let you just pay for me.”
“You haven’t had a problem with it yet.”
He took a step forward as soon as he said it, setting a hand on my arm that I quickly shrugged off. I knew he thought he’d hurt me and, as terrible as it made me feel, I decided to let him. He called my name as I stormed past him, down the stairs and out of the garage. The cold wind hit my face and I slipped into the car, quickly wiping at my eyes before he caught up with me.
“What the hell is going on with you, Nora?” He slammed the car door with an edge in his voice that I’d only heard once in the few years I’d known him. It had been the only time I had seen him truly upset and I realized how much I had hurt him by picking a fight. “I know this move isn’t going to be easy and I’m trying to make it better but I can’t help if you don’t tell me what’s wrong!”
“Nothing’s wrong!”
He set his hands on the steering wheel and started the car, mumbling under his breath. I made out the last part and my heart flipped. “If this is how you’re going to act then maybe you shouldn’t come.”
“Then maybe I won’t!”

Riecine 2013 Riecine
Tumblr media
Brilliant pale ruby. Opens with gorgeous waft of red berry, pomegranate, rosemary, fresh violet and rose petals. Delicate and radiant on palate, with sappy red fruit, blood orange rind and coolish minerality rendered in great transparency, while ultra-fine tannins mesh stealthily into the supple, spice-tinged finish. Feels au naturel for élevage in Nomblot concrete egg, mostly, with the rest in very old tonneaux, not to mention 15% whole bunch fermentation. To borrow a cliché: burgundian. Just dainty, in similar fashion to the transcendent ’14.
A pure sangiovese selection from the oldest Riecine vineyard, Palmina (named after the wife of its late founder, Englishman John Dunkley) atop 500m Gaiole hill. Winemaker Alessandro Campatelli describes rather aptly it was made by ‘four hands’: his predecessor Sean O’Callaghan harvested and vinified the lots while he racked and blended the final wine.
In Alessandro’s words, Riecine di Riecine represents the ‘present’ of sangiovese: a singular expression of the noble grape’s multifaceted brilliance, a realization of which winemaking approach draws a parallel with experimentation in flux. The other flagship La Gioia, also a varietal sangiovese, harkens back to the ‘modern tradition’ of Super Tuscan, born out of collective ambition to propel then unheralded Tuscany’s finest into fine wine consciousness. Naturally the lifeblood of Chianti Classico, both the annata and riserva are history, terroir and Tuscan pride in a bottle.
Gaiole in Chianti, Toscana, Italy; 100% sangiovese; 13.5% abv.

Critic Reviews
Packaged in a Burgundian bottle, the 2013 Riecine pours forth with a dark garnet color. By appearance alone, the wine seems older than it really is. This expression of 100% Sangiovese is silky and tight with dried aromas of cassis and spice. The bouquet is a bit closed and will need more time to find its voice (although I feel inclined to suggest a shorter drinking window nonetheless). The wine is fermented in cement and aged in a very small percentage of neutral oak. Drink: 2017-2024. Monica Larner (Wine Advocate, 11/2017) 88
The 2013 Riecine Toscana Rosso is a fresh, vibrant red which opens to aromas of wild red berries, dried cherry, spices, rose petal and licorice all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is elegant, medium-bodied and well defined with fine tannins and a bright, racy core of acidity providing lovely freshness through the spice-tinged finish. Although this is 100% Sangiovese it really brings to mind characteristics you might expect to find in Pinot Noir or even Nerello Mascalese. Overall, this is an interesting and quite unique expression of the varietal. (Best 2018-2027) Joe d'Angelo (International Wine Report, 08/2017) 93

Expect a vibrant scene offering up vegetarian fare as well as fun cocktails and fresh juices. There’s no in between. If you’re looking for ultra-luxe dining, you’ll find it at Wake, aboard the Scarlet Lady. A mid-20th century steak and seafood haunt with chop house atmosphere but vintage feel. Expect lots and lots of champagne.

Flufftober #22: Home (Good Omens)
Summary: Crowley calls the shop home, twice by accident, and once on purpose.
He remembers the first time the demon said it, called the bookstore home. Aziraphale doesn’t think that Crowley even realized he’d said it. It was years before they were lovers, early on in their time with Warlock, and they were taking a short break from their respective duties as nanny and gardener to spend a weekend in London. As they drove into Soho, they both seemed to uncoil a little, and when they pulled up in front of the shop, Crowley opened the car door for him with a flourish and escorted him into the shop with a large grin on his face.
He took a deep breath. “Smell that, angel?” He asked. “We’re home.”
Aziraphale felt an immediate swell of overwhelming love, which he quickly hid while busying himself putting tea things together, and made sure not to mention the revealing slip the demon had just made. But he kept that comment buried away, deep inside, and pulled it out from time to time to examine it, like a prized coin. It never failed to make him feel warm.
++
It continued to happen, off and on, for the next decade. They’d be having dinner out, lingering over wine, and Crowley, a little too far into his cups, would lose his usual reserve.
“Done with your dessert, angel?” he’d say, chin in hand, his shoulders relaxed and his mouth curved up in that fond fashion he had. “Good – let’s go home.”
Aziraphale would stamp down on the urge to wiggle happily and would instead wiggle privately, on the inside, where no one else could see and feel self conscious, and then wait to see when they got to the pavement whether home meant Crowley’s place or his.
Invariably, he meant the bookshop. He’d escort the angel there, and linger hopefully until he was invited in for a nightcap. Which he always was.
Aziraphale added these moments to his little collection of treasured memories, and held them close.
++
It came up more directly once, when they were at Crowley’s place. This was always a rare occurrence. Crowley didn’t seem especially comfortable there, and he issued an invitation to visit only once every few years. Honestly, Aziraphale wasn’t especially comfortable there either – it was too bright and too hard, all sharp angles and concrete, and the furniture was, in his view, appallingly hard and unwelcoming. He did like the plants, though, and Crowley had a marvelous, if ultra-modern kitchen. It would be improved, Aziraphale thought, but a large, brightly colored, antique enamel stove and a variety of copper pots hanging from a rack in the ceiling, but he knew better than to suggest such a thing.
“Why do you like your furniture so uncomfortable?” Aziraphale asked him on one of his rare visits.
“Oh,” Crowley said, surprised. He’d never really thought about. “I dunno – I bought them for looks, I suppose. Never really thought about, you know, lounging around on any of it.”
“But this is your home!” the angel protested. “Don’t you want to be comfortable?”
Crowley looked around dubiously. “This isn’t home,” he said. “This is just where I keep my stuff. Homes are warm and cozy, soft. Places you want to spend time, not just somewhere to sleep.”
It sounded, Aziraphale thought, like he was describing the bookshop.
++
It was nearly a week after Crowley moved in before he finally had the nerve to say it deliberately. They were out running errands together, doing the marketing for dinner and breakfast, picking up odds and ends they needed around the shop. The demon had a few things to pick up in Mayfair and the angel needed to see a book dealer, so they agreed to split up for the remainder of the afternoon.
Crowley leaned in and gave him and awkward and adorable kiss on the forehead.
“I’ll see you at home, all right?” he said. Then he blushed, deeply.
Aziraphale smiled beatifically at him. “Home,” he said softly. “It’s lovely to hear you call it that.”
Crowley, always too easily embarrassed, deflected. “Slip of the tongue, angel. Pay no attention.”
Aziraphale tutted and reached up to cup a hand around the demon’s cheek. “Shush, you silly demon. Of course it’s your home. Has been for decades – it’s just a little more official now. Don’t be embarrassed by it.”
Crowley, mortified, cleared his throat and hemmed and hawed and finally squeaked out a goodbye and left on his errands. But Aziraphale could see the happiness in the set of his back and the swing of his hips as he walked down the street. The demon, sensing his watching eyes, raised a hand in a saucy wave, without turning around.
Aziraphale wondered if your heart could truly explode from too much love, as he turned and made his way to the next stop on his list.
